To guarantee every real-valued convex function bounded above on a set is continuous, how "thick" should the set be? For a symmetric set A in a Banach space E,the answer of this paper is: Every real-valued convex function bounded above on A is continuous on E if and only if the following two conditions hold: i) spanA has finite co-dimentions and ii) coA has nonempty relative interior. This paper also shows that a subset A C E satisfying every real-valued convex function bounded above on A is continuous on E if (and only if) every real-valued linear functional bounded above on A is continuous on E, which is also equivalent to that every real-valued convex function bounded on A is continuous on E.  相似文献

Let (E,E) be a dual pair of vector spaces. The paper studies general conditions which allow to lift analyticity (or K-analyticity) from the weak topology σ(E,E) to stronger ones in the frame of (E,E). First we show that the Mackey dual of a space Cp(X) is analytic iff the space X is countable. This yields that for uncountable analytic spaces X the Mackey dual of Cp(X) is weakly analytic but not analytic. We show that the Mackey dual E of an (LF)-space of a sequence of reflexive separable Fréchet spaces with the Heinrich density condition is analytic, i.e. E is a continuous image of the Polish space NN. This extends a result of Valdivia. We show also that weakly quasi-Suslin locally convex Baire spaces are metrizable and complete (this extends a result of De Wilde and Sunyach). We provide however a large class of weakly analytic but not analytic metrizable separable Baire topological vector spaces (not locally convex!). This will be used to prove that analyticity is not a three-space property but we show that a metrizable topological vector space E is analytic if E contains a complete locally convex analytic subspace F such that the quotient E/F is analytic. Abstract

We study Dieudonné-Köthe spaces of Lusin-measurable functions with values in a locally convex space. Let Λ be a solid locally convex lattice of scalar-valued measurable functions defined on a measure space Ω. If E is a locally convex space, define Λ {E} as the space of all Lusinmeasurable functions f: Ω → E such that q(f(·)) is a function in Λ for every continuous seminorm q on E. The space Λ {E} is topologized in a natural way and we study some aspects of the locally convex structure of A {E}; namely, bounded sets, completeness, duality and barrelledness. In particular, we focus on the important case when Λ and E are both either metrizable or (DF)-spaces and derive good permanence results for reflexivity when the density condition holds.  相似文献

It is well known that the space Cp([0,1]) has countable tightness but it is not Fréchet-Urysohn. Let X be a Cech-complete topological space. We prove that the space Cp(X) of continuous real-valued functions on X endowed with the pointwise topology is Fréchet-Urysohn if and only if Cp(X) has countable bounded tightness, i.e., for every subset A of Cp(X) and every x in the closure of A in Cp(X) there exists a countable and bounding subset of A whose closure contains x. We study also the problem when the weak topology of a locally convex space has countable bounded tightness. Additional results in this direction are provided.  相似文献

We investigate the diagonal sequence property in Banach spaces with weaker topologies. In particular, we present examples of Banach spaces with weaker locally convex topologies which have the diagonal sequence property but are not Fréchet–Urysohn. The examples answer negatively a question of Averbukh and Smolyanov. We give also a very simple proof of the fact that each Banach space contains a subset A whose weak closure includes 0, but 0 is not contained in the weak closure of any bounded subset of A.  相似文献

A Hausdorff locally convex space is said to be c0-barrelled (respectively ω-barrelled) if each sequence in the dual space that converges weakly to 0 (respectively that is weakly bounded), is equicontinuous. It is proved that if a c0-barrelled space E has dual E′ weakly sequentially complete, then every subspace of countable codimension of E is c0-barrelled. We prove that the hypothesis on E′ cannot be dropped and we supply an example of a complete c0-barrelled space with dual weakly sequentially complete that is not ω-barrelled.  相似文献

In ZFC, it is shown that every relational clone on a set A closed under complementation is a Krasner clone if and only if A is at most countable. This is achieved by solving an equivalent problem on locally invertible monoids: A partially ordered set is constructed whose endomorphism monoid is not contained in the local closure of its automorphism group. Let X be a Banach space and E be a closed bounded subset of X. For x ? X, we define D(x, E) = sup{‖ x ? e‖:e ? E}. The set E is said to be remotal (in X) if, for every x ? X, there exists e ? E such that D(x, E) = ‖x ? e‖. The object of this paper is to characterize those reflexive Banach spaces in which every closed bounded convex set is remotal. Such a result enabled us to produce a convex closed and bounded set in a uniformly convex Banach space that is not remotal. It is shown that if the maximal ideal space (A) of a semisimple commutative complete metrizable locally convex algebra contains no isolated points, then every compact multiplies is trivial. We will prove that some so‐called union theorems (see [2]) are equivalent in ZF0 to statements about the transitive closure of relations. The special case of “bounded” union theorems dealing with κ‐hereditary sets yields equivalents to statements about the transitive closure of κ‐narrow relations. The instance κ = ω1 (i. e., hereditarily countable sets) yields an equivalent to Howard‐Rubin's Form 172 (the transitive closure Tc(x) of every hereditarily countable set x is countable). In particular, the countable union theorem (Howard‐Rubin's Form 31) and, a fortiori, the axiom of countable choice imply Form 172.  相似文献

We prove that a bounded convex lower semicontinuous function defined on a convex compact set K is continuous at a dense subset of extreme points. We look for characterizations of those locally convex spaces that satisfy the strict Mackey convergence condition within the context of spaces with webs. We will say that a locally convex space has a boundedly compatible web if it has a web of absolutely convex sets whose members behave like zero neighborhoods in a metrizable locally convex space. It will be shown that these locally convex spaces satisfy the strict Mackey convergence condition. One consequence of this result will be a characterization of boundedly retractive inductive limits. We will also prove that if E is locally complete and webbed, then the strict Mackey convergence condition is equivalent to E having a boundedly compatible web.  相似文献

We consider the existence and uniqueness of the farthest point of a given set A in a Banach space E from a given point x in the space E. It is assumed that A is a convex, closed, and bounded set in a uniformly convex Banach space E with Fréchet differentiable norm. It is shown that, for any point x sufficiently far from the set A, the point of the set A which is farthest from x exists, is unique, and depends continuously on the point x if and only if the set A in the Minkowski sum with some other set yields a ball. Moreover, the farthest (from x) point of the set A also depends continuously on the set A in the sense of the Hausdorff metric. If the norm ball of the space E is a generating set, these conditions on the set A are equivalent to its strong convexity.  相似文献

In every Hausdorff locally convex space for which there exists a strictly finer topology than its weak topology but with the same bounded sets (like for instance, all infinite dimensional Banach spaces, the space of distributions or the space of analytic functions in an open set , etc.) there is a set A such that 0 is in the weak closure of A but 0 is not in the weak closure of any bounded subset B of A. A consequence of this is that a Banach space X is finite dimensional if, and only if, the following property [P] holds: for each set and each x in the weak closure of A there is a bounded set such that x belongs to the weak closure of B. Order properties of quotient Riesz spaces E/N(f) by null ideals N(f) are investigated. We show relationships between properties of a Riesz space E and its order dual E ~ and properties of quotients E/N(f) where f runs over some subspaces of E ~. A characterization of metrizable locally convex topological Riesz spaces whose all quotients (by proper closed ideals) are discrete is also given.  相似文献

Moreover, an upper bound for the class of sets which are contained in a Banach disc is presented. LetX be any compact convex subset of a locally convex Hausdorff space andE be a complex Banach space. We denote byA(X, E) the space of all continuous and affineE-valued functions defined onX. In this paper we prove thatX is a Choquet simplex if and only if the dual ofA(X, E) is isometrically isomorphic by a selection map toM m (X, E*), the space ofE*-valued,w*-regular boundary measures onX. This extends and strengthens a result of G. M. Ustinov. To do this we show that for any compact convex setX, each element of the dual ofA(X, E) can be represented by a measure inM m (X, E*) with the same norm, and this representation is unique if and only ifX is a Choquet simplex. We also prove that ifX is metrizable andE is separable then there exists a selection map from the unit ball of the dual ofA(X, E) into the unit ball ofM m (X, E*) which is weak* to weak*-Borel measurable.This work will constitute a portion of the author's Ph.D. Thesis at the University of Illinois.  相似文献
