α,ω‐di(iodo) poly(isobornyl acrylate) macroiniators (α,ω‐di(iodo)PIA) with number average molecular weight from M n,TriSEC = 11,456 to M n,TriSEC = 94,361 were synthesized by single electron transfer‐degenerative chain transfer mediated living radical polymerization (SET‐DTLRP) of isobornyl acrylate (IA) initiated with iodoform (CHI3) and catalyzed by sodium dithionite (Na2S2O4) in water at 35 °C. The plots of number average molecular weight vs conversion and ln{[M]0/[M]} vs time are linear, indicating a controlled polymerization. α,ω‐di(iodo) poly(isobornyl acrylate) have been used as a macroinitiator for the SET‐DTLRP of vinyl chloride (VCM) leading to high Tg block copolymers PVC‐b‐PIA‐b‐PVC. The dynamic mechanical thermal analysis of the block copolymers suggests just one phase indicating that copolymer behaves as a single material. This technology provides the possibility of synthesizing materials based on PVC with higher Tg in aqueous medium. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2009  相似文献

Sodium dithionite in the presence of NaHCO3 in water acts as a single‐electron‐transfer agent and facilitates the single‐electron‐transfer/degenerative‐chain‐transfer mediated living radical polymerization (SET–DTLRP) of acrylates initiated with iodoform at room temperature. The resulting α,ω‐di(iodo)polyacrylates can be used as macroinitiators for the SET–DTLRP of other acrylates. Ultrahigh‐molar‐mass poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) can be synthesized via the SET–DTLRP of tert‐butyl acrylate and has a very low weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight ratio of 1.15. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Pentaerythritol tetrakis(2‐iodopropionate) was used as a tetrafunctional initiator for the Na2S2O4 catalyzed SET‐DTLRP of n‐butyl acrylate in water at room temperature. The resulting tetrafunctional poly(n‐butyl acrylate) macroinitiator with Mn = 14,864 or Mn = 3627 per arm was used to initiate the SET‐DTLRP of vinyl chloride and provide the first examples of four‐arm star‐block copolymers [PVC‐b‐PBA‐CH(CH3)? CO? O? CH2]4C. The Mn of the PVC segment from each arm of the four‐arm star‐block copolymer varied between 353 and 33,622. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(vinyl acetate) macroinitiators, with the chains thus end‐capped by a cobalt complex, were synthesized by cobalt‐mediated radical polymerization and used to initiate styrene polymerization at 30 °C. Although the polymerization of the second block was not controlled, poly(vinyl acetate)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers were successfully prepared and converted into amphiphilic poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers by the methanolysis of the ester functions of the poly(vinyl acetate) block. These poly(vinyl alcohol)‐b‐polystyrene copolymers self‐associated in water with the formation of nanocups, at least when the poly(vinyl alcohol) content was low enough. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living radical polymerization of 2‐methoxyethyl acrylate (MEA) was achieved by single‐electron‐transfer/degenerative transfer mediated living radical polymerization (SET‐DTLRP) in water catalyzed by sodium dithionate. The poly(2‐methoxyethyl acrylate) is an amphiphilic polymer with a hydrophobic part (polyethylene chain) and a mildly hydrophilic tail. The plots of number‐average molecular weight versus conversion and ln{[M]0/[M]} versus time are linear, indicating a controlled polymerization. This method leads to the preparation of α,ω‐di(iodo) poly(2‐methoxyethyl acrylate)s (α,ω‐di(iodo)PMEA) macroinitiators that can be further functionalized. The molecular weight distributions were determined using a combination of three detectors (TriSEC): right‐angle light scattering (RALLS), a differential viscometer (DV) and refractive index (RI). The method studied in this work represents a possible route to prepare well‐tailored macromolecules made of 2‐methoxyethyl acrylate (biocompatible material) in an environmentally friendly reaction medium. To the best of our knowledge there is no previous report dealing with the synthesis of PMEA by any LRP approach in aqueous medium. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work reports the synthesis of several copolymers of poly(vinyl chloride)-b-poly(n-butyl acrylate)-b-Poly(vinyl chloride) prepared by single electron transfer/degenerative chain transfer mediated living radical polymerization (SET-DTLRP) in a two step process: first, a bifunctional macroinitiator of α,ω-di(iodo)poly(butyl acrylate) [α,ω-di(iodo)PBA] was synthesized by SET-DTLRP in water at 30 °C. The obtained macroinitiator was further reinitiated also by SET-DTLRP leading to the formation of the desired product. Several copolymers were synthesized in a 5L pilot reactor with different molecular weights and relative amounts of PBA and PVC. The possibility of synthesizing flexible materials made of PVC without using normal free plasticizes is extremely important for the industry. After processing the materials in a two-roll mill laboratorial equipment, the block copolymers were characterized concerning thermal and mechanical. The materials characterized in this study were prepared in a 5L pilot reactor under similar conditions to be used in industrial scale.  相似文献

A variety of conditions, including catalysts [CuCl, CuI, Cu2O, and Cu(0)], ligands [2,2′‐bipyridine (bpy), tris(2‐dimethylaminoethyl)amine (Me6‐TREN), polyethyleneimine, and hexamethyl triethylenetetramine], initiators [CH3CHClI, CH2I2, CHI3, and F(CF2)8I], solvents [diphenyl ether, toluene, tetrahydrofuran, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide, ethylene carbonate, dimethylacetamide, and cyclohexanone], and temperatures [90, 25, and 0 °C] were studied to assess previous methods for poly(methyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(vinyl chloride)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐b‐PVC‐b‐PMMA) synthesis by the living radical block copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) initiated with α,ω‐di(iodo)poly(vinyl chloride). CH3CHClI was used as a model for α,ω‐di(iodo)poly(vinyl chloride) employed as a macroinitiator in the living radical block copolymerization of MMA. Two groups of methods evolved. The first involved CuCl/bpy or Me6‐TREN at 90 °C, whereas the second involved Cu(0)/Me6‐TREN in DMSO at 25 or 0 °C. Related ligands were used in both methods. The highest initiator efficiency and rate of polymerization were obtained with Cu(0)/Me6‐TREN in DMSO at 25 °C. This demonstrated that the ultrafast block copolymerization reported previously is the most efficient with respect to the rate of polymerization and precision of the PMMA‐b‐PVC‐b‐PMMA architecture. Moreover, Cu(0)/Me6‐TREN‐catalyzed polymerization exhibits an external first order of reaction in DMSO, and so this solvent has a catalytic effect in this living radical polymerization (LRP). This polymerization can be performed between 90 and 0 °C and provides access to controlled poly(methyl methacrylate) tacticity by LRP and block copolymerization. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, the polymerization of (2‐hydroxyethyl) acrylate (HEA), in polar media, using Cu(0)‐mediated radical polymerization also called single‐electron transfer–living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) is reported. The kinetics aspects of both the homopolymerization and the copolymerization from a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) macroinitiator were analyzed by 1H NMR. The effects of both the ligand and the solvent were studied. The polymerization was shown to reach very high monomer conversions and to proceed in a well‐controlled fashion in the presence of tris[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl]amine Me6‐TREN and N, N,N′, N″, N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). SET‐LRP of HEA was also led in water, and it was shown to be faster than in DMSO. In pure water, Me6‐TREN allowed a better control over the molar masses and polydispersity indices than PMDETA and TREN. Double hydrophilic PEO‐b‐PHEA block copolymers, exhibiting various PHEA block lengths up to 100 HEA units, were synthesized, in the same manner, from a bromide‐terminated PEO macroinitiator. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dihydroxyl capped biodegradable poly(DTC‐b‐PEG‐b‐DTC) (BCB) triblock copolymer and poly(TMC‐b‐DTC‐b‐PEG‐b‐DTC‐b‐TMC) (ABCBA) pentablock copolymer have been synthesized by PEG and BCB copolymer as macroinitiator in the presence of yttrium tris(2,6‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4‐methylphenolate). The copolymers without random segments have been thoroughly characterized by 1H, 13C‐NMR, SEC, and DSC. Molecular weights of the obtained copolymers are dependent on the amount of PEGs and coincide with the theoretical values. The exchange reaction of yttrium alkoxide and hydroxyl end group is essential for controlling the products' molecular weight. Their thermal behaviors are relevant to the chain lengths of PEG and PDTC segments. The Monte Carlo method has been developed to estimate the chain propagation constant and exchange reaction constant. In average, one exchange reaction will occur after approximately six monomer molecules insert into the growing chain. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined amphiphilic coil‐rod block copolymer, poly(2‐vinyl pyridine)‐b‐poly(n‐hexyl isocyanate) (P2VP‐b‐PHIC), was synthesized with quantitative yields by anionic polymerization. A low reactive one‐directional initiator, potassium diphenyl methane (DPM‐K), was very effective in polymerizing 2‐vinyl pyridine (2VP) without side reactions, leading to perfect control over molecular weight and molecular weight distribution over a broad range of initiator and monomer concentration. Copolymerization of 2VP with n‐hexyl isocyanate (HIC) was carried out in the presence of sodium tetraphenyl borate (NaBPh4) to prevent backbiting reactions during isocyanate polymerization. Terminating the living end with a suitable end‐capping agent resulted in a P2VP‐b‐PHIC coil‐rod block copolymer with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. Cast film from a chloroform solution of P2VP‐b‐PHIC displayed microphase separation, characteristic of coil‐rod block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Na2S2O4‐catalyzed single‐electron transfer – degenerative chain transfer‐mediated living radical polymerization (SET‐DTLRP) of VC initiated with the bifunctional initiators 1,2‐bis(iodopropionyloxy)ethane, dimethyl 2,5‐diiodohexanedioate, and bis(2‐methoxyethyl)‐2,5‐diiodohexanedioate as well as the tetrafunctional initiator pentaerythritol tetrakis(2‐iodopropionate) is reported. This SET‐DTLRP was performed in water at ambient temperature in the presence of polyvinyl alcohol and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose surfactants and provides methods for the synthesis of α,ω‐di(iodo)PVC with two identical active chain ends and of four‐arm star PVC with four identical active chain ends. These difunctional and tetrafunctional derivatives of PVC are also macroinitiators for the synthesis of ABA triblock copolymers and four‐arm star block copolymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cationic emulsions of triblock copolymer particles comprising a poly(n‐butyl acrylate) (PnBA) central block and polystyrene (PS) outer blocks were synthesized by activator generated by electron transfer (AGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Difunctional ATRP initiator, ethylene bis(2‐bromoisobutyrate) (EBBiB), was used as initiator to synthesize the ABA type poly(styrene‐bn‐butyl acrylate‐b‐styrene) (PS‐PnBA‐PS) triblock copolymer. The effects of ligand and cationic surfactant on polymerizations were also discussed. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was used to characterize the molecular weight (Mn) and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of the resultant triblock copolymers. Particle size and particle size distribution of resulted latexes were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS). The resultant latexes showed good colloidal stability with average particle size around 100–300 nm in diameter. Glass transition temperature (Tg) of copolymers was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of well‐defined double‐hydrophilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐PEA) backbone and poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate) (PDMAEA) side chains, were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). PNIPAM‐b‐PEA backbone was first prepared by sequential SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate at 25 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system followed by the transformation into the macroinitiator by treating the pendant hydroxyls with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. The final graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions were synthesized by ATRP of 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl acrylate initiated by the macroinitiator at 40 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as catalytic system via the grafting‐from strategy. These copolymers were employed to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles with controlled size in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The morphology and size of the nanoparticles were affected by the length of PDMAEA side chains, pH value, and the feed ratio of the graft copolymer to HAuCl4. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined double hydrophilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) backbone and poly(2‐vinylpyridine) side chains, were synthesized by successive single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The backbone was prepared by sequential SET‐LRP of N‐isopropylacrylamide and 2‐hydroxyethyl acrylate at 25 °C using CuCl/tris(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl)amine as the catalytic system. The obtained diblock copolymer was transformed into the macroinitiator by reacting with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Next, grafting‐from strategy was used for the synthesis of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐[poly(ethyl acrylate)‐g‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine)] double hydrophilic graft copolymer. ATRP of 2‐vinylpyridine was initiated by the macroinitiator at 25 °C using CuCl/hexamethyldiethylenetriamine as the catalytic system. The synthesis of both the backbone and the side chains are controllable. Thermo‐ and pH‐responsive schizophrenic micellization behaviors were investigated by 1H NMR, fluorescence spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. Unimolecular micelles with PNIPAM‐core formed in acidic environment (pH = 2) with elevated temperature (T ≥ 32 °C), whereas the aggregates turned into spheres with PEA‐g‐P2VP‐core accompanied with the lifting of pH values (pH ≥ 5.3) at room temperature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two types of three‐arm and four‐arm, star‐shaped poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐alt‐glycolic acid)‐b‐poly(L ‐lactic acid) (D,L ‐PLGA50‐b‐PLLA) were successfully synthesized via the sequential ring‐opening polymerization of D,L ‐3‐methylglycolide (MG) and L ‐lactide (L ‐LA) with a multifunctional initiator, such as trimethylolpropane and pentaerythritol, and stannous octoate (SnOct2) as a catalyst. Star‐shaped, hydroxy‐terminated poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐alt‐glycolic acid) (D,L ‐PLGA50) obtained from the polymerization of MG was used as a macroinitiator to initiate the block polymerization of L ‐LA with the SnOct2 catalyst in bulk at 130 °C. For the polymerization of L ‐LA with the three‐arm, star‐shaped D,L ‐PLGA50 macroinitiator (number‐average molecular weight = 6800) and the SnOct2 catalyst, the molecular weight of the resulting D,L ‐PLGA50‐b‐PLLA polymer linearly increased from 12,600 to 27,400 with the increasing molar ratio (1:1 to 3:1) of L ‐LA to MG, and the molecular weight distribution was rather narrow (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.09–1.15). The 1H NMR spectrum of the D,L ‐PLGA50‐b‐PLLA block copolymer showed that the molecular weight and unit composition of the block copolymer were controlled by the molar ratio of L ‐LA to the macroinitiator. The 13C NMR spectrum of the block copolymer clearly showed its diblock structures, that is, D,L ‐PLGA50 as the first block and poly(L ‐lactic acid) as the second block. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Applications of metal‐free living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers using HCl · Et2O are reported. Product of poly(vinyl ether)s possessing functional end groups such as hydroxyethyl groups with predicted molecular weights was used as a macroinitiator in activated monomer cationic polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL) with HCl · Et2O as a ring‐opening polymerization. This combination method is a metal‐free polymerization using HCl · Et2O. The formation of poly(isobutyl vinyl ether)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PIBVE‐b‐PCL) and poly(tert‐butyl vinyl ether)‐b‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PTBVE‐b‐PCL) from two vinyl ethers and CL was successful. Therefore, we synthesized novel amphiphilic, biocompatible, and biodegradable block copolymers comprised polyvinyl alcohol and PCL, namely PVA‐b‐PCL by transformation of acid hydrolysis of tert‐butoxy moiety of PTBVE in PTBVE‐b‐PCL. The synthesized copolymers showed well‐defined structure and narrow molecular weight distribution. The structure of resulting block copolymers was confirmed by 1H NMR, size exclusion chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of well‐defined ferrocene‐based amphiphilic graft copolymers, consisting of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(ethyl acrylate) (PNIPAM‐b‐PEA) backbone and poly(2‐acryloyloxyethyl ferrocenecarboxylate) (PAEFC) side chains, were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). A new ferrocene‐based monomer, 2‐(acryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocenecarboxylate (AEFC), was prepared first and it can be polymerized via ATRP in a controlled way using methyl 2‐bromopropionate as initiator and CuBr/PMDETA as catalytic system in DMF at 40 °C. PNIPAM‐b‐PEA backbone was synthesized by sequential SET‐LRP of NIPAM and HEA at 25 °C using CuCl/Me6TREN as catalytic system followed by the transformation into the macroinitiator by treating the pendant hydroxyls with α‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. The targeted well‐defined graft copolymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.20) were synthesized via ATRP of AEFC initiated by the macroinitiator. In this research, poly(methyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(butyl acrylate) (PMMA‐b‐PBA) block copolymers were prepared by 1,1‐diphenylethene (DPE) controlled radical polymerization in homogeneous and miniemulsion systems. First, monomer methyl methacrylate (MMA), initiator 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and a control agent DPE were bulk polymerized to form the DPE‐containing PMMA macroinitiator. Then the DPE‐containing PMMA was heated in the presence of a second monomer BA, the block copolymer was synthesized successfully. The effects of solvent and polymerization methods (homogeneous polymerization or miniemulsion polymerization) on the reaction rate, controlled living character, molecular weight (Mn) and molecular weight distribution (PDI) of polymers throughout the polymerization were studied and discussed. The results showed that, increasing the amounts of solvent reduced the reaction rate and viscosity of the polymerization system. It allowed more activation–deactivation cycles to occur at a given conversion thus better controlled living character and narrower molecular weight distribution of polymers were demonstrated throughout the polymerization. Furthermore, the polymerization carried out in miniemulsion system exhibited higher reaction rate and better controlled living character than those in homogeneous system. It was attributed to the compartmentalization of growing radicals and the enhanced deactivation reaction of DPE controlled radical polymerization in miniemulsified droplets. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
