Considering the microscopic characteristics (vehicle speed, road length etc.) of links and macroscopic behaviors of traffic systems, we derive the critical flow generation rate in scale-free networks. And the dynamics of traffic congestion is studied numerically in this paper. It is shown that the queue length increases with microscopic characteristics of links. Additionally, the critical flow generation rate decreases with increase of the network size N, maximum speed vmax and parameter τ. The significance of this finding is that, in order to improve the traffic environment, both the local information for the single link and behaviors of the whole network must be analyzed simultaneously in a traffic system design.  相似文献

We propose a spatial weighted network model based on the optimal expected traffic. The expected traffic represents the prediction of the flow created by two vertices and is calculated by the improved gravity equation. The model maximizes the total expected traffic of the network. By changing two parameters which control the fitness and the geographical constraints, the model can vary its topology and give rise to a variety of statistical properties observed in the real-world network. Notably, our study shows that a linear and a nonlinear strength-degree correlation can emerge when considering and neglecting the “transport effect”, respectively.  相似文献

We study the information traffic in scale-free networks where the information generation rate varies with time as a periodic function. We observe that when the fluctuation in packet generation rate increases, the average transit time increases and network performance degrades. In order to improve the transportation efficiency in this situation, we propose a new routing method called mixed routing. It operates in two modes: (1) when the packet generation rate is small, the shortest paths are used to deliver the packets to the destination; (2) when the packet generation rate is large, the traffic loads in central nodes are redistributed to other non-central nodes, using the so-called efficient routing method. We find that the time shifting between the two modes is very critical for the routing performance. Consequently, we provide an efficient method to determine the critical times to shift the routing modes for achieving good network performance.  相似文献

By incorporating local traffic information into the shortest path routing strategy, we numerically investigate the effectiveness of the traffic awareness routing strategy for scale-free networks with different clustering. In order to characterize the efficiency of the packet-delivery process, we introduce an order parameter and an average transmission time that allow us to measure the network capacity by the critical value of phase transition from free flow to congestion. Compared with the shortest path routing protocol, the network capacity is greatly enhanced by the traffic awareness routing strategy. We also find that there exists an optimum value for the tunable parameter in the congestion awareness strategy. Moreover, simulation results show that the more clustered the network, the less efficient the packet-delivery process.  相似文献

Transportation infrastructure of a country is one of the most important indicators of its economic growth. Here we study the Airport Network of India (ANI) which represents India’s domestic civil aviation infrastructure as a complex network. We find that ANI, a network of domestic airports connected by air links, is a small-world network characterized by a truncated power-law degree distribution and has a signature of hierarchy. We investigate ANI as a weighted network to explore its various properties and compare them with their topological counterparts. The traffic in ANI, as in the World-wide Airport Network (WAN), is found to be accumulated on interconnected groups of airports and is concentrated between large airports. In contrast to WAN, ANI is found to be having disassortative mixing which is offset by the traffic dynamics. The analysis indicates possible mechanism of formation of a national transportation network, which is different from that on a global scale.  相似文献

The optimal solution of an inter-city passenger transport network has been studied using Zipf’s law for the city populations and the Gravity law describing the fluxes of inter-city passenger traffic. Assuming a fixed value for the cost of transport per person per kilometer we observe that while the total traffic cost decreases, the total wiring cost increases with the density of links. As a result the total cost to maintain the traffic distribution is optimal at a certain link density which vanishes on increasing the network size. At a finite link density the network is scale-free. Using this model the air-route network of India has been generated and an one-to-one comparison of the nodal degree values with the real network has been made.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a simple weighted network model that generalizes the complex network model evolution with traffic flow previously presented to investigate the relationship between traffic flow and network structure. In the model, the nodes in the network are represented by the traffic flow states, the links in the network are represented by the transform of the traffic flow states, and the traffic flow transported when performing the transform of the traffic flow states is considered as the weight of the link. Several topological features of this generalized weighted model, such as the degree distribution and strength distribution, have been numerically studied. A scaling behavior between the strength and degree sklogk is obtained. By introducing some constraints to the generalized weighted model, we study its subnetworks and find that the scaling behavior between the strength and degree is conserved, though the topology properties are quite sensitive to the constraints.  相似文献

We study the robustness of several network models subject to edge removal. The robustness is measured by the statistics of network breakdowns, where a breakdown is defined as the destroying of the total connectedness of a network, rather than the disappearance of the giant component. We introduce a simple traffic dynamics as the function of a network topology, and the total connectedness can be destroyed in the sense of either the topology or the function. The overall effect of the topological breakdown and the functional breakdown, as well as the relative importance of the topological robustness and the functional robustness, are studied under two edge removal strategies.  相似文献

In this work we present a model of an air transportation traffic system from the complex network modelling viewpoint. In the network, every node corresponds to a given airport, and two nodes are connected by means of flight routes. Each node is weighted according to its load capacity, and links are weighted according to the Euclidean distance that separates each pair of nodes. Local rules describing the behaviour of individual nodes in terms of the surrounding flow have been also modelled, and a random network topology has been chosen in a baseline approach. Numerical simulations describing the diffusion of a given number of agents (aircraft) in this network show the onset of a jamming transition that distinguishes an efficient regime with null amount of airport queues and high diffusivity (free phase) and a regime where bottlenecks suddenly take place, leading to a poor aircraft diffusion (congested phase). Fluctuations are maximal around the congestion threshold, suggesting that the transition is critical. We then proceed by exploring the robustness of our results in neutral random topologies by embedding the model in heterogeneous networks. Specifically, we make use of the European air transportation network formed by 858 airports and 11 170 flight routes connecting them, which we show to be scale-free. The jamming transition is also observed in this case. These results and methodologies may introduce relevant decision-making procedures in order to optimize the air transportation traffic.  相似文献

We study network traffic dynamics in a two dimensional communication network with regular nodes and hubs. If the network experiences heavy message traffic, congestion occurs due to finite capacity of the nodes. We discuss strategies to manipulate hub capacity and hub connections to relieve congestion and define a coefficient of betweenness centrality (CBC), a direct measure of network traffic, which is useful for identifying hubs which are most likely to cause congestion. The addition of assortative connections to hubs of high CBC relieves congestion very efficiently. An erratum to this article is available at .  相似文献

We investigate the traffic flow volume data on the time dependent activity of Beijing's urban road network. The couplings between the average flux and the fluctuations on individual links are shown to follow certain scaling laws and yield a wide variety of scaling exponents between 1/2 and 1. To quantitatively explain this interesting phenomenon, a non-stationary Poisson arriving model is proposed. The scaling property is interpreted as the result of the time- variation of the arriving rate of flux over the network, which nicely explicates the effect of aggregation windows, and provides a concise model for the dependence of scaling exponent on the external/internal force ratio.  相似文献

We investigated the topological properties of stock networks constructed by a minimal spanning tree. We compared the original stock network with the estimated network; the original network is obtained by the actual stock returns, while the estimated network is the correlation matrix created by random matrix theory. We found that the consistency between the two networks increases as more eigenvalues are considered. In addition, we suggested that the largest eigenvalue has a significant influence on the formation of stock networks.  相似文献

The Internet is one of the most interesting realizations of a “complex” network. As a non-supervised growing object, it allows the study of the selective pressure which drives the network to assume its current structure. The DIMES and the ROUTEVIEWS projects are ongoing projects aimed at evaluating the topological structure of the Internet (at the Autonomous System or AS grain-level) on the basis of different types of measurements. The topological analysis of the networks produced by the two projects has allowed us to infer a growth mechanism which has been used to build up synthetic networks with similar properties. These networks have been used as test-beds for the implementation of a model of traffic dynamics, with the aim of assessing the ability of the Internet’s topology to support the basic actions for data traffic handling. Results have been compared with those obtained by using a random network of similar size. The effects of some structural perturbations (arcs and nodes’ removal, traffic localization) have been also evaluated in terms of the induced variations of the network’s efficiency. The resulting scenario is consistent with the hypothesis that the structure of the Internet is only partially fit to host communication processes and that the intelligence of the TCP/IP protocol is partly needed to overcome some “structural” deficiencies.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the cascading failure on weighted urban traffic equilibrium networks by introducing a more practical flow assignment mechanism. The whole process including edges overloading to node malfunctioning, dynamic spanning clustering and the phase transitions trigged with O-D flow evolving is simulated. It is found that there are three districts: slow, fast and stationary (collapse for scale-free networks) cascading failure districts. And different topologies have large effects on the ranges of these districts. Simulations also show that, although the latter can support larger traffic flow, homogeneous networks appear to be more robust against cascading failures than heterogeneous ones.  相似文献

Different routing strategies may result in different behaviour of traffic on internet. We analyse the correlation of traffic data for three typical routing strategies by the detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and lind that the aregree of correlation of the data can be divided into three regions, i.e. weak, medium, and strong correlation. The DFA scalings are constants in both the regions of weak and strong correlations but monotonically increase in the region of medium correlation. We suggest that it is better to consider the traffic on complex network as three phases, i.e. the free, buffer, and congestion phase, than just as two phases believed before, i.e. the free and congestion phase.  相似文献

In this Letter, the consensus problem via distributed nonlinear protocols for directed networks is investigated. Its dynamical behaviors are described by ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Based on graph theory, matrix theory and the Lyapunov direct method, some sufficient conditions of nonlinear protocols guaranteeing asymptotical or exponential consensus are presented and rigorously proved. The main contribution of this work is that for nonlinearly coupled networks, we generalize the results for undirected networks to directed networks. Consensus under pinning control technique is also developed here. Simulations are also given to show the validity of the theories.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the capacity of a highway with two on-ramps by using a cellular automata traffic flow model. We investigate how to improve the system capacity by assigning traffic flow to the two ramps. The system phase diagram is presented and different regions are classified. It is shown that in region I, in which both ramps are in free flow and the main road upstream of the ramps is in congestion, assigning a higher proportion of the demand to the upstream on-ramp could improve the overall flow, which is consistent with previous studies. This is explained through studying the spatiotemporal patterns and analytical investigations. In contrast, optimal assignment has not been observed in other regions. We point out that our result is robust and model independent under certain conditions.  相似文献

In this Letter we study networks that have been optimized to realize a trade-off between communication efficiency and dynamical resilience. While the first is related to the average shortest pathlength, we argue that the second can be measured by the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of the network. Best efficiency is realized in star-like configurations, while enhanced resilience is related to the avoidance of short loops and degree homogeneity. Thus crucially, very efficient networks are not resilient while very resilient networks lack in efficiency. Networks that realize a trade-off between both limiting cases exhibit core-periphery structures, where the average degree of core nodes decreases but core size increases as the weight is gradually shifted from a strong requirement for efficiency and limited resilience towards a smaller requirement for efficiency and a strong demand for resilience. We argue that both, efficiency and resilience are important requirements for network design and highlight how networks can be constructed that allow for both.  相似文献

Betweenness measures provide quantitative tools to pick out fine details from the massive amount of interaction data that is available from large complex networks. They allow us to study the extent to which a node takes part when information is passed around the network. Nodes with high betweenness may be regarded as key players that have a highly active role. At one extreme, betweenness has been defined by considering information passing only through the shortest paths between pairs of nodes. At the other extreme, an alternative type of betweenness has been defined by considering all possible walks of any length. In this work, we propose a betweenness measure that lies between these two opposing viewpoints. We allow information to pass through all possible routes, but introduce a scaling so that longer walks carry less importance. This new definition shares a similar philosophy to that of communicability for pairs of nodes in a network, which was introduced by Estrada and Hatano [E. Estrada, N. Hatano, Phys. Rev. E 77 (2008) 036111]. Having defined this new communicability betweenness measure, we show that it can be characterized neatly in terms of the exponential of the adjacency matrix. We also show that this measure is closely related to a Fréchet derivative of the matrix exponential. This allows us to conclude that it also describes network sensitivity when the edges of a given node are subject to infinitesimally small perturbations. Using illustrative synthetic and real life networks, we show that the new betweenness measure behaves differently to existing versions, and in particular we show that it recovers meaningful biological information from a protein-protein interaction network.  相似文献

We analyze the time-dependent spectrum of eigenvalues of the correlation matrix for multivariate EEG data at the transition to epileptic seizures. By a mechanism of level repulsion between states at both edges of the spectrum of the correlation matrix, relevant information about quantitative correlation changes is reflected in the largest and smallest eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors. By the application of measures from random matrix theory we provide evidence that statistically relevant information can be obtained both at the upper and the lower end of the spectrum. In addition, information about spatial characteristics of correlation changes can be extracted.  相似文献
