Topological properties of the multifunction space <Emphasis Type=Italic>L</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>X</Emphasis>) of cusco maps

A set-valued mapping F from a topological space X to a topological space Y is called a cusco map if F is upper semicontinuous and F(x) is a nonempty, compact and connected subset of Y for each x ∈ X. We denote by L(X), the space of all subsets F of X × ℝ such that F is the graph of a cusco map from the space X to the real line ℝ. In this paper, we study topological properties of L(X) endowed with the Vietoris topology. Cc （X） Spaces with X Locally Compact

In this paper, we show, among other results, that if X is a [separable] locally compact space X [satisfying the first countability axiom] then the space Cc （X） has countable tightness [if and only if it has bounding tightness] if and only if it is Frechet-Urysohn, if and only if Cc （X） contains a dense （LM） subspace and if and only if X is a-compact.     

Theta lifting from elliptic cusp forms to automorphic forms on <Emphasis Type=Italic>Sp</Emphasis>(1, <Emphasis Type=Italic>q</Emphasis>)

Tsuneo Arakawa formulated a theta lifting from elliptic cusp forms to automorphic forms on Sp(1,q) in his unpublished note, which was inspired by “Kudla lifting”, i.e. a theta lifting from elliptic modular forms to holomorphic automorphic forms on SU(1,q). We prove that the images of Arakawa’s theta lifting belong to the space of bounded automorphic forms generating quaternionic discrete series, which are non-holomorphic forms. In the appendix we provide the construction of Eisenstein series and Poincaré series generating such discrete series. The author was partially supported by JSPS Research Fellowships for Young Scientist for April 2002 to March 2005. The results of this paper were obtained in this period.     

Characterizations of some rings with <Emphasis Type=Italic>C</Emphasis>-projective, <Emphasis Type=Italic>C</Emphasis>-(FP)-injective and <Emphasis Type=Italic>C</Emphasis>-flat modules

Let R be a commutative ring and C a semidualizing R-module. We investigate the relations between C-flat modules and C-FP-injective modules and use these modules and their character modules to characterize some rings, including artinian, noetherian and coherent rings.     

The flatness properties of <Emphasis Type=Italic>S</Emphasis>-poset <Emphasis Type=Italic>A</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>I</Emphasis>) and Rees factor <Emphasis Type=Italic>S</Emphasis>-posets

Let S be a pomonoid and I a proper right ideal of S. In a previous paper, using the amalgamated coproduct A(I) of two copies of _S S over I, we were able to solve one of the problems posed in S. Bulman-Fleming et al. (Commun. Algebra 34:1291–1317, 2006). In the present paper, we investigate further flatness properties of A(I). We also solve another problem stated in the paper cited above. Namely, we determine the condition under which Rees factor S-posets have property (P _w ). Research supported by nwnu-kjcxgc-03-18.     

About <Emphasis Type=Italic>I</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>J</Emphasis>)-approximately continuous functions

A generalization of density point with respect to category and I(J)-density topology has been presented in [5]. This papers deals with some basic properties of the corresponding I(J)-approximately continuous functions and gives answer when these functions are of the first Baire class and when they are Darboux functions.     

Consecutive customer losses in regular and oscillating <Emphasis Type=Italic>M</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type=Italic>X</Emphasis></Superscript>/<Emphasis Type=Italic>G</Emphasis>/1/<Emphasis Type=Italic>n</Emphasis> systems

We derive fast recursions to compute the probability that k or more consecutive customer losses take place during a busy period of a queue, the so called k-CCL probability, for regular and oscillating M ^X /G/1/n systems.     

On <Emphasis Type=Italic>l</Emphasis><Subscript>2,<Emphasis Type=Italic>p</Emphasis></Subscript>-circle numbers

Circle numbers are defined to reflect the Euclidean area-content and, for p ≠ 2, suitably defined non-Euclidean circumference properties of the l _2,p -circles, p ∈ [1, ∞]. The resulting function is continuous, increasing, and takes all values from [2, 4]. The actually chosen dual l _2,p -geometry for measuring the arc-length is closely connected with a generalization of the method of indivisibles of Cavalieri and Torricelli in the sense that integrating such arc-lengths means measuring area content. Moreover, this approach enables one to look in a new way into the co-area formula of measure theory which says that integrating Euclidean arc-lengths does not yield area content except for p = 2. The new circle numbers play a natural role, e.g., as norming constants in geometric measure representation formulae for p-generalized uniform probability distributions on l _2,p -circles.     

On the structure of theta lifts of discrete series for dual pairs (<Emphasis Type=Italic>Sp</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>n</Emphasis>),<Emphasis Type=Italic>O</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>V</Emphasis>))

The purpose of this paper is to prove some fundamental results on the structure of theta lifts of discrete series.     

About the computation of the signature of surface singularities <Emphasis Type=Italic>z</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type=Italic>N</Emphasis></Superscript> + <Emphasis Type=Italic>g</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>x,y</Emphasis>) = 0

In this article we describe our experiences with a parallel Singular implementation of the signature of a surface singularity defined by z ^N + g(x; y) = 0.     

Sign change of the function <Emphasis Type=Italic>S</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>t</Emphasis>) on short intervals

A theorem for the sign variation of the argument of the Riemann zeta function S(t) in the interval (t − A, t + A) with A = 4.39 ln ln ln ln T for each t, T ≤ t ≤ T + H excluding values from the set E with the measure mes(E) = O(H(ln ln T)⁻¹(ln ln ln T)^−0,5) is proved.     

<Emphasis Type=Italic>N</Emphasis>-homogeneous <Emphasis Type=Italic>C</Emphasis>*-algebras generated by idempotents

In this paper we consider n-homogeneous C*-algebras generated by idempotents. We prove that a finitely generated unital n-homogeneous (when n is greater than or equals 2) C*-algebra A can be generated by a finite set of idempotents if and only if the algebra A contains at least one nontrivial idempotent.     

A generalization of Hardy spaces <Emphasis Type=Italic>H</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type=Italic>p</Emphasis></Superscript> by using atoms

Let X = （X, d,μ） The purpose of this paper is to be a space of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss. generalize the definition of Hardy space H^P（X） and prove that the generalized Hardy spaces have the same property as H^P（X）. Our definition includes a kind of Hardy- Orlicz spaces and a kind of Hardy spaces with variable exponent. The results are new even for the R^n case. Let （X, δ, μ） be the normalized space of （X, d, μ） in the sense of Macias and Segovia. We also study the relations of our function spaces for （X, d, μ） and （X, δ,μ）.     

<Emphasis Type=Italic>m</Emphasis> Components-admissible solutions of systems of higher-order partial differential equations on <Emphasis Type=Italic>C</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type=Italic>n</Emphasis></Superscript>

Using value distribution theory and techniques in several complex variables,we investigate the problem of existence of m components-admissible solutions of a class of systems of higher-order partial differential equations in several complex variables and estimate the number of admissible components of solutions.Some related results will also be obtained.     

Embedding c<Subscript>0</Subscript> in bvca(Σ, <Emphasis Type="Italic">X</Emphasis>)

If (Ω,Σ) is a measurable space and X a Banach space, we provide sufficient conditions on Σ and X in order to guarantee that bvca(Σ, X) the Banach space of all X-valued countably additive measures of bounded variation equipped with the variation norm, contains a copy of c₀ if and only if X does. Approximations for the <Emphasis Type=Italic>M</Emphasis>/<Emphasis Type=Italic>GI</Emphasis>/<Emphasis Type=Italic>N</Emphasis>+<Emphasis Type=Italic>GI</Emphasis> type call center

In this paper, we propose approximations to compute the steady-state performance measures of the M/GI/N+GI queue receiving Poisson arrivals with N identical servers, and general service and abandonment-time distributions. The approximations are based on scaling a single server M/GI/1+GI queue. For problems involving deterministic and exponential abandon times distributions, we suggest a practical way to compute the waiting time distributions and their moments using the Laplace transform of the workload density function. Our first contribution is numerically computing the workload density function in the M/GI/1+GI queue when the abandon times follow general distributions different from the deterministic and exponential distributions. Then we compute the waiting time distributions and their moments. Next, we scale-up the M/GI/1+GI queue giving rise to our approximations to capture the behavior of the multi-server system. We conduct extensive numerical experiments to test the speed and performance of the approximations, which prove the accuracy of their predictions.      

An extreme values of the function <Emphasis Type=Italic>S</Emphasis>(<Emphasis Type=Italic>T</Emphasis>) in short intervals

We obtain new estimates for the maximum and minimum of the argument of the Riemann zetafunction on very short segments of the critical line. These results are based on the Riemann hypothesis.
