Let P(z) be a polynomial of degree n and for any complex number α, let Dα P(z) = n P(z)+(α-z)P′(z) denote the polar derivative of P(z) with respect to α. In this paper, we obtain certain inequalities for the polar derivative of a polynomial with restricted zeros. Our results generalize and sharpen some well-known polynomial inequalities.  相似文献

For a polynomial p(z) of degree n which has no zeros in |z| 1, Dewan et al.,(K. K. Dewan and Sunil Hans, Generalization of certain well known polynomial inequalities, J. Math. Anal. Appl., 363(2010), 38–41) established zp′(z) +nβ2p(z) ≤n2{( β2 + 1+β2)max|z|=1|p(z)|-( 1+β2- β2)min|z|=1|p(z)|},for any complex number β with |β|≤ 1 and |z| = 1. In this paper we consider the operator B, which carries a polynomial p(z) into B[ p(z)] := λ0p(z) + λ1(nz2)p′(z)1!+ λ2(nz2)2 p′′(z)2!,where λ0, λ1, and λ2are such that all the zeros of u(z) = λ0+c(n,1)λ1z+c(n,2)λ2z2lie in the half plane |z| ≤ |z-n/2|. By using the operator B, we present a generalization of result of Dewan. Our result generalizes certain well-known polynomial inequalities.  相似文献

We consider for a fixed μ, the class of polynomials
Pn,μ,s:+{P(z)=z^2(anz^n-s+∑j=μ^n-s an-jz^n-j-s);1≤μ≤n-s}
of degree n, having all zeros in | z| ≤ k, k≤ 1, with s-fold zeros at the origin. In this paper, we have obtained inequalities in the reverse direction for the above class of polynomials. Besides, extensions of some Turan-type inequalities for the polar derivative of polynomials have been considered.  相似文献

We present various inequalities for the harmonic numbers defined by ${H_n=1+1/2 +\ldots +1/n\,(n\in{\bf N})}$ . One of our results states that we have for all integers n ???2: $$\alpha \, \frac{\log(\log{n}+\gamma)}{n^2} \leq H_n^{1/n} -H_{n+1}^{1/(n+1)} < \beta \, \frac{\log(\log{n}+\gamma)}{n^2}$$ with the best possible constant factors $$\alpha= \frac{6 \sqrt{6}-2 \sqrt[3]{396}}{3 \log(\log{2}+\gamma)}=0.0140\ldots \quad\mbox{and} \quad\beta=1.$$ Here, ?? denotes Euler??s constant.  相似文献

Quasi-symmetric 3-designs with block intersection numbers x and y(0x<y<k) are studied, several inequalities satisfied by the parameters of a quasi-symmetric 3-designs are obtained. Let D be a quasi-symmetric 3-design with the block size k and intersection numbers x, y; y>x1 and suppose D′ denote the complement of D with the block size k′ and intersection numbers x′ and y′. If k −1 x + y then it is proved that x′ + yk′. Using this it is shown that the quasi-symmetric 3-designs corresponding to y = x + 1, x + 2 are either extensions of symmetric designs or designs corresponding to the Witt-design (or trivial design, i.e., v = k + 2) or the complement of above designs.  相似文献

A well-known result of Rivlin states that if p(z) is a polynomial of degree n, such that p(z) ≠ 0 in |z| < 1, then max|z|=r < 1 |p(z)| ≤ ((r + 1)/2)n max|z| = 1 |p(z)|. In this paper, we consider the polynomial p(z) = a0 + Σnv = μaυzυ having all its zeros in |z| ≤ k > 1 and obtain a generalization of this result. Our result improves upon a result recently proved by Bidkham and Dewan (J. Math. Anal. Appl.166 (1992), 19-324).  相似文献

Let (sn) be an s-number sequence. We show for each k = 1, 2, . . . and n ≥ k + 1 the inequality between the eigenvalues and s-numbers of a compact operator T in a Banach space. Furthermore, the constant (k + 1)1/2 is optimal for n = k + 1 and k = 1, 2, . . .. This inequality seems to be an appropriate tool for estimating the first single eigenvalues. On the other hand we prove that the Weyl numbers form a minimal multiplicative s-number sequence and by a well-known inequality between eigenvalues and Weyl numbers due to A. Pietsch they are very good quantities for investigating the optimal asymptotic behavior of eigenvalues. Research of the second author was supported by the DFG Emmy-Noether grant Hi 584/2-3.  相似文献

We present various new inequalities involving the logarithmic mean L(x,y)=(x-y)/(logx-logy) L(x,y)=(x-y)/(\log{x}-\log{y}) , the identric mean I(x,y)=(1/e)(xx/yy)1/(x-y) I(x,y)=(1/e)(x^x/y^y)^{1/(x-y)} , and the classical arithmetic and geometric means, A(x,y)=(x+y)/2 A(x,y)=(x+y)/2 and G(x,y)=?{xy} G(x,y)=\sqrt{xy} . In particular, we prove the following conjecture, which was published in 1986 in this journal. If Mr(x,y) = (xr/2+yr/2)1/r(r 1 0) M_r(x,y)= (x^r/2+y^r/2)^{1/r}(r\neq{0}) denotes the power mean of order r, then $ M_c(x,y)<\frac{1}{2}(L(x,y)+I(x,y)) {(x,y>0,\, x\neq{y})} $ M_c(x,y)<\frac{1}{2}(L(x,y)+I(x,y)) {(x,y>0,\, x\neq{y})} with the best possible parameter c=(log2)/(1+log2) c=(\log{2})/(1+\log{2}) .  相似文献

To find the predual spaces Pα(R^n) of Qα(R^n) is an important motivation in the study of Q spaces. In this article, wavelet methods are used to solve this problem in a constructive way. First, an wavelet tent atomic characterization of Pα(Rn) is given, then its usual atomic characterization and Poisson extension characterization are given. Finally, the continuity on Pα of Calderon-Zygmund operators is studied, and the result can be also applied to give the Morrey characterization of Pα(Rn).  相似文献

In this paper, a two-scale higher-order finite element discretization scheme is proposed and analyzed for a Schroedinger equation on tensor product domains. With the scheme, the solution of the eigenvalue problem on a fine grid can be reduced to an eigenvalue problem on a much coarser grid together with some eigenvalue problems on partially fine grids. It is shown theoretically and numerically that the proposed two-scale higher-order scheme not only significantly reduces the number of degrees of freedom but also produces very accurate approximations.  相似文献

The application of a standard Galerkin finite element method for convection-diffusion problems leads to oscillations in the discrete solution, therefore stabilization seems to be necessary. We discuss several recent stabilization methods, especially its combination with a Galerkin method on layer-adapted meshes. Supercloseness results obtained allow an improvement of the discrete solution using recovery techniques.  相似文献

In this paper we review recent developments in the analysis of finite element methods for incompressible flow problems with local projection stabilization (LPS). These methods preserve the favourable stability and approximation properties of classical residual-based stabilization (RBS) techniques but avoid the strong coupling of velocity and pressure in the stabilization terms. LPS-methods belong to the class of symmetric stabilization techniques and may be characterized as variational multiscale methods. In this work we summarize the most important a priori estimates of this class of stabilization schemes developed in the past 6 years. We consider the Stokes equations, the Oseen linearization and the NavierStokes equations. Furthermore, we apply it to optimal control problems with linear(ized) flow problems, since the symmetry of the stabilization leads to the nice feature that the operations "discretize" and "optimize" commute.  相似文献

We introduce a new and efficient numerical method for multicriterion optimal control and single criterion optimal control under integral constraints. The approach is based on extending the state space to include information on a "budget" remaining to satisfy each constraint; the augmented Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman PDE is then solved numerically. The efficiency of our approach hinges on the causality in that PDE, i.e., the monotonicity of characteristic curves in one of the newly added dimensions. A semi-Lagrangian "marching" method is used to approximate the discontinuous viscosity solution efficiently. We compare this to a recently introduced "weighted sum" based algorithm for the same problem [25]. We illustrate our method using examples from flight path planning and robotic navigation in the presence of friendly and adversarial observers.  相似文献

In this article, we analyse three related preconditioned steepest descent algorithms, which are partially popular in Hartree-Fock and Kohn-Sham theory as well as invariant subspace computations, from the viewpoint of minimization of the corresponding functionals, constrained by orthogonality conditions. We exploit the geometry of the admissible manifold, i.e., the invariance with respect to unitary transformations, to reformulate the problem on the Grassmann manifold as the admissible set. We then prove asymptotical linear convergence of the algorithms under the condition that the Hessian of the corresponding Lagrangian is elliptic on the tangent space of the Grassmann manifold at the minimizer.  相似文献
