We used quantum process tomography to investigate and identify the function of a nonideal two-qubit quantum-state filter subject to various degrees of decoherence. We present a simple decoherence model that explains the experimental results and point out that a beam splitter followed by a postselection process is not, as commonly believed, a singlet-state filter. In the ideal case it is a triplet-state filter.  相似文献

The interaction of a quantum system with the environment leads to the so-called quantum decoherence. Beyond its fundamental significance, the understanding and the possible control of this dynamics in various scenarios is a key element for mastering quantum information processing. Here we report the quantitative probing of what can be called the quantum decoherence of detectors, a process reminiscent of the decoherence of quantum states in the presence of coupling with a reservoir. We demonstrate how the quantum features of two single-photon counters vanish under the influence of a noisy environment. We thereby experimentally witness the transition between the full-quantum operation of the measurement device to the "semi-classical regime", described by a positive Wigner function. The exact border between these two regimes is explicitely determined and measured experimentally.  相似文献

In the process of quantum information transport, environment inevitably causes decoherence and disentanglement. It is effective to constitute a hybrid qubit system by taking advantages of different types of qubits to overcome the effects of decoherence and achieve quantum information transport. We find that energy relaxation exists in the process of information exchange bewteen the hybrid qubits. Combining this kind of energy relaxation with the decoherence effects from external environment, quantum information transport of non-disentangled effect can be achieved in phase damping channel if the exchange decay rate and decoherence time satisfy certain constraint relations. We discuss the scheme to achieve the constraint relations through combining specific quantum circuits.  相似文献

We report the realization, using nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, of the first quantum computer that reliably executes a complete algorithm in the presence of strong decoherence. The computer is based on a quantum error avoidance code that protects against a class of multiple-qubit errors. The code stores two decoherence-free logical qubits in four noisy physical qubits. The computer successfully executes Grover's search algorithm in the presence of arbitrarily strong engineered decoherence. A control computer with no decoherence protection consistently fails under the same conditions.  相似文献

The resources required to characterize the dynamics of engineered quantum systems--such as quantum computers and quantum sensors--grow exponentially with system size. Here we adapt techniques from compressive sensing to exponentially reduce the experimental configurations required for quantum process tomography. Our method is applicable to processes that are nearly sparse in a certain basis and can be implemented using only single-body preparations and measurements. We perform efficient, high-fidelity estimation of process matrices of a photonic two-qubit logic gate. The database is obtained under various decoherence strengths. Our technique is both accurate and noise robust, thus removing a key roadblock to the development and scaling of quantum technologies.  相似文献

An optical quantum channel that introduces decoherence in the polarization state by continuously controlling the output degree of polarization (DOP) is proposed, and a proof-of-principle experiment is performed. The decoherence is achieved by a depolarizing process that couples the polarization and time-of-flight degrees of freedom of the single photons in a high-birefringence medium, and is experimentally characterized via standard quantum state tomography. It is shown that the output DOP is independent of the input polarization state and the response times of the photodetectors.  相似文献

We present a discussion of the fundamental loss of unitarity that appears in quantum mechanics due to the use of a physical apparatus to measure time. This induces a decoherence effect that is independent of any interaction with the environment and appears in addition to any usual environmental decoherence. The discussion is framed self consistently and aimed to general physicists. We derive the modified Schrödinger equation that arises in quantum mechanics with real clocks and discuss the theoretical and potential experimental implications of this process of decoherence.  相似文献

Finding the most robust entangled states during the whole process of decoherence is a particularly fundamental problem for quantum physics and quantum information processing. In this paper, the decoherence process of two-qubit system under two individual identical decoherence channels is investigated systematically. We find that although the robustness of two-qubit states with same initial entanglement is usually different, the Bell-like states are always the most robust entangled states during decoherence. That is to say, affected by the same amount of noise, the remain entanglement of an arbitrary two-qubit state is not more than that of a Bell-like state with the same initial entanglement.  相似文献

Decoherence suppression from disturbance of the environment is an essential task in quantum information processing. We investigate decoherence suppression of a qubit system interacting with a heat bath with phase decoherence by employing the weak measurement (WM) and quantum measurement reversal (QMR) operation. We show explicitly that the qubit decoherence can be efficiently completely suppressed by means of the combination WM and QMR, which is independent of the form of the spectral density of the reservoir and the form of initial input state.  相似文献

We present an error-prevention scheme for protecting three-qubit quantum information against decoherence. The scheme exhibits manifestation of the quantum Zeno effect. We show that a six-qubit error prevention code can be applied to protect three-qubit information against general errors and that a four-qubit encoding is sufficient for preventing three-qubit information from phase damping.  相似文献

Taming decoherence is a critical issue in quantum information science. We here investigate amplitude-damping decoherence suppression of two-qubit entangled states by weak quantum measurements. It is shown that the weak measurements can effectively suppress the decoherence for different initial entangled states. More interestingly, we show that the weak measurements have different effects on the entanglement protection for two entangled states which are equivalent under a local unitary operation. This result implies that the entanglement protection effect could be modulated according to different demands.  相似文献

Utilizing the concurrence and the quantum discord as the measure method, in this paper we compare and investigate the dynamic evolution features of quantum correlations of coupled qubits in non-Markovian process. We focus attention on decoherence effect influences the stability of quantum correlations. The investigation results show that because of the decoherence influence between the system and environment, the concurrence always evolves with time in oscillation form in the way of deaths and survivals, however, the quantum discord time evolution does not appear the deaths and survivals. The quantum discord survives obviously longer than concurrence, which indicates that quantum discord has a stronger ability to resist decoherence than entanglement. Through regulating and controlling the purity and entanglement of the initial quantum state, we can effectively suppress the decay of the quantum correlations, which is advantaged to complete the quantum information processing.  相似文献

We report the realization of an entangled quantum superposition of M approximately 12 photons by multiple universal cloning of a single-photon qubit via the high gain, quantum-injected optical parametric amplification. The system has been found extremely resilient to decoherence. By quantum tomography, the nonseparability and the quantum superposition are demonstrated for the mesoscopic output state of the dynamic "closed system."  相似文献

The qubit (or a system of two quantum dots) has become a standard paradigm for studying quantum information processes. Our focus is decoherence due to interaction of the qubit with its environment, leading to noise. We consider quantum noise generated by a dissipative quantum bath. A detailed comparative study with the results for a classical noise source such as generated by a telegraph process, enables us to set limits on the applicability of this process vis à vis its quantum counterpart, as well as lend handle on the parameters that can be tuned for analysing decoherence. Both Ohmic and non-Ohmic dissipations are treated and appropriate limits are analysed for facilitating comparison with the telegraph process.  相似文献

Among the biggest obstacles for building larger (and thus more powerful) quantum-information processors is decoherence, the decay of quantum-information by the coupling between the quantum register and its environment. Procedures for reducing decoherence processes will be essential for successful operation of larger quantum processors. We study model quantum registers consisting of up to 4900 qubits and measure their decay as a function of the register size. We demonstrate that appropriate sequences of qubit rotations reduce the coupling between system and environment for all sizes of the quantum register, thus preserving the quantum-information 50 times longer than without decoupling.  相似文献

We investigate the short-time decoherence of a solid-state qubit under Ohmic noise at optimal operation points. The decoherence is analyzed by maximum norm of the deviation density operator. It is shown that at the temperature T = 3 mK, the loss of the fidelity due to decoherence is much smaller than the DiVincenzo low decoherence criterion, which means that the model may be an optimal candidate of qubit for quantum computation.  相似文献
