Orthogonal polynomials for a family of weight functions on [?1,1]2, $$\mathcal{W}_{\alpha,\beta,\gamma}(x,y) = |x+y|^{2\alpha+1}|x-y|^{2\beta+1} \bigl(1-x^2\bigr)^{\gamma}\bigl(1-y^2\bigr)^{\gamma},$$ are studied and shown to be related to the Koornwinder polynomials defined on the region bounded by two lines and a parabola. In the case of ??=±1/2, an explicit basis of orthogonal polynomials is given in terms of Jacobi polynomials, and a closed formula for the reproducing kernel is obtained. The latter is used to study the convergence of orthogonal expansions for these weight functions.  相似文献

We give an algorithm for computing orthogonal polynomials over triangular domains in Bernstein–Bézier form which uses only the operator of degree raising and its adjoint. This completely avoids the need to choose an orthogonal basis (or tight frame) for the orthogonal polynomials of a given degree, and hence the difficulties inherent in that approach. The results are valid for Jacobi polynomials on a simplex, and show the close relationship between the Bernstein form of Jacobi polynomials, Hahn polynomials and degree raising.  相似文献

This paper analyzes polynomials orthogonal with respect to the Sobolev inner product with and (x)is a weight function. We study this family of orthogonal polynomials, as linked to the polynomials orthogonal with respect to (x) and we find the recurrence relation verified by such a family. If the weight is semiclassical we obtain a second order differential equation for these polynomials. Finally, an illustrative example is shown.  相似文献

Let (P ν) be a sequence of monic polynomials orthogonal on the unit circle with respect to a nonnegative weight function, let (Ωυ) the monic associated polynomials of (P v), and letA andB be self-reciprocal polynomials. We show that the sequence of polynomials (APυλ+BΩυλ)/Aλ, λ stuitably determined, is a sequence of orthogonal polynomials having, up to a multiplicative complex constant, the same recurrence coefficients as theP ν's from a certain index value onward, and determine the orthogonality measure explicity. Conversely, it is also shown that every sequence of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle having the same recurrence coefficients from a certain index value onward is of the above form. With the help of these results an explicit representation of the associated polynomials of arbitrary order ofP ν and of the corresponding orthogonality measure and Szegö function is obtained. The asymptotic behavior of the associated polynomials is also studied. Finally necessary and suficient conditions are given such that the measure to which the above introduced polynomials are orthogonal is positive.  相似文献

In this paper we will discuss the problem of generation of sequences of orthogonal polynomials with respect to measures supported on the unit circle from a given sequence of orthogonal polynomials using a perturbation of a cubic sieved process. The basic tools are the Szeg? forward recurrence relation as well as the fact of the coprimality of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and their corresponding reverse polynomials. We also give the connection between the associated orthogonality measures. Finally, some examples of this cubic decomposition are shown.  相似文献

We derive asymptotics for polynomials orthogonal over the complex unit disk with respect to a weight of the form 2|h(z)|, with h(z) a polynomial without zeros in |z|<1. The behavior of the polynomials is established at every point of the complex plane. The proofs are based on adapting to the unit disk a technique of J. Szabados for the asymptotic analysis of polynomials orthogonal over the unit circle with respect to the same type of weight.  相似文献

Abstract

A new set of orthogonal polynomials is found that are solutions to a sixth order formally self adjoint differential equation. These polynomials are shown to generalize the Legendre and Legendre type polynomials. We also show that these polynomials satisfy many properties shared by the classical orthogonal polynomials of Jacobi, Laguerre and Hermite.  相似文献

The Markov-Bernstein inequalities for generalized Gegenbauer weight are studied. A special basis of the vector space Pn of real polynomials in one variable of degree at most equal to n is proposed. It is produced by quasi-orthogonal polynomials with respect to this generalized Gegenbauer measure. Thanks to this basis the problem to find the Markov-Bernstein constant is separated in two eigenvalue problems. The first has a classical form and we are able to give lower and upper bounds of the Markov-Bernstein constant by using the Newton method and the classical qd algorithm applied to a sequence of orthogonal polynomials. The second is a generalized eigenvalue problem with a five diagonal matrix and a tridiagonal matrix. A lower bound is obtained by using the Newton method applied to the six term recurrence relation produced by the expansion of the characteristic determinant. The asymptotic behavior of an upper bound is studied. Finally, the asymptotic behavior of the Markov-Bernstein constant is O(n2) in both cases.  相似文献

Matrix-valued spherical functions related to the quantum symmetric pair for the quantum analogue of \((\mathrm{SU}(2) \times \mathrm{SU}(2), \mathrm{diag})\) are introduced and studied in detail. The quantum symmetric pair is given in terms of a quantised universal enveloping algebra with a coideal subalgebra. The matrix-valued spherical functions give rise to matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials, which are matrix-valued analogues of a subfamily of Askey–Wilson polynomials. For these matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials, a number of properties are derived using this quantum group interpretation: the orthogonality relations from the Schur orthogonality relations, the three-term recurrence relation and the structure of the weight matrix in terms of Chebyshev polynomials from tensor product decompositions, and the matrix-valued Askey–Wilson type q-difference operators from the action of the Casimir elements. A more analytic study of the weight gives an explicit LDU-decomposition in terms of continuous q-ultraspherical polynomials. The LDU-decomposition gives the possibility to find explicit expressions of the matrix entries of the matrix-valued orthogonal polynomials in terms of continuous q-ultraspherical polynomials and q-Racah polynomials.  相似文献

In this paper we examine the existence of polynomials orthogonal with respect to weight functions which are given by the product of a nonnegative (on the interval of orthogonality) function and a polynomial. In particular, we give some results when the polynomial factor is orthogonal with respect to the remaining (nonnegative) part of the weight function.

We consider the space Pn of orthogonal polynomials of degree n on the unit disc for a general radially symmetric weight function. We show that there exists a single orthogonal polynomial whose rotations through the angles , j=0,1,…,n forms an orthonormal basis for Pn, and compute all such polynomials explicitly. This generalises the orthonormal basis of Logan and Shepp for the Legendre polynomials on the disc.Furthermore, such a polynomial reflects the rotational symmetry of the weight in a deeper way: its rotations under other subgroups of the group of rotations forms a tight frame for Pn, with a continuous version also holding. Along the way, we show that other frame decompositions with natural symmetries exist, and consider a number of structural properties of Pn including the form of the monomial orthogonal polynomials, and whether or not Pn contains ridge functions.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain L 1-weighted norms of classical orthogonal polynomials (Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials) in terms of the zeros of these orthogonal polynomials; these expressions are usually known as quadrature rules. In particular, these new formulae are useful to calculate directly some positive defined integrals as several examples show.

In this paper, we study the homogeneous polynomials orthogonal with the weight function h(x(d))=x1^2k1…xd^2kd on S^(d-1).We obtain the explicit formula on a basis of the orthogonal homogeneous polynomials of degree n. It is simpler than the formula in,and can be regarded as an extension of under the weighted case.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this contribution, we explore the well-known connection between Hurwitz and orthogonal polynomials. Namely, given a Hurwitz polynomial, it is shown that it can be decomposed into two parts: a polynomial that is orthogonal with respect to some positive measure supported in the positive real axis and its corresponding second-kind polynomial. Conversely, given a sequence of orthogonal polynomials with respect to a positive measure supported in the positive real axis, a sequence of Hurwitz polynomials can be constructed. Based on that connection, we construct sequences of Hurwitz polynomials that satisfy a recurrence relation, in a similar way as the orthogonal polynomials do. Even more, we present a way to construct families of Hurwitz polynomials using two sequences of parameters and a recurrence relation that constitutes an analogue of Favard's theorem in the theory of orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

We consider the classical problem of transforming an orthogonality weight of polynomials by means of the space R n . We describe systems of polynomials called pseudo-orthogonal on a finite set of n points. Like orthogonal polynomials, the polynomials of these systems are connected by three-term relations with tridiagonal matrix which is nondecomposable but does not enjoy the Jacobi property. Nevertheless these polynomials possess real roots of multiplicity one; moreover, almost all roots of two neighboring polynomials separate one another. The pseudo-orthogonality weights are partly negative. Another result is the analysis of relations between matrices of two different orthogonal systems which enables us to give explicit conditions for existence of pseudo-orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

The h-harmonics are analogues of the ordinary harmonics, they are orthogonal homogeneous polynomials on the sphere with respect to a weight function that is invariant under a reflection group. Two means of associated orthogonal expansions, the de la Vallée Poussin means and an analog of spherical means, are defined and their approximation behaviors are studied. A weighted modulus of smoothness is defined using the modified spherical means and is proved to be equivalent to a weighted K-modulus defined using the differential-difference h-spherical Laplacian. A Bernstein type inequality for the h-spherical Laplacian is also established.  相似文献

Cauchy singular integral operators are characterized as operators in a weighted L2-space. The integral operator arises from a singular integral equation with variable coefficients. An appropriate weight function associated with the singular integral operator is constructed, and the set of polynomials orthogonal with respect to this weight function is defined. The action of the operator on polynomial sets is studied, and the definition of the operator is extended to a weighted L2-space. In this space, the operator is shown to be bounded, and, in some cases, isometric. Formulas are developed for the composition of the singular integral operator and its one sided inverse.  相似文献

Sobolev orthogonal polynomials with respect to measures supported on compact subsets of the complex plane are considered. For a wide class of such Sobolev orthogonal polynomials, it is proved that their zeros are contained in a compact subset of the complex plane and their asymptotic-zero distribution is studied. We also find the nth-root asymptotic behavior of the corresponding sequence of Sobolev orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

We study a general orthogonal polynomial set which includes the sieved associated ultraspherical and the sieved Pollaczek polynomials. This we get by letting q approach a root of unity in the recurrence relation and the generating functions of the associated q-ultraspherical and the Pollaczek polynomials. We find the weight functions with respect to which these polynomials are orthogonal and determine the asymptotic behavior of these polynomials on and off their interval of orthogonality.  相似文献

We consider polynomials that are orthogonal on [−1,1] with respect to a modified Jacobi weight (1−x)α(1+x)βh(x), with α,β>−1 and h real analytic and strictly positive on [−1,1]. We obtain full asymptotic expansions for the monic and orthonormal polynomials outside the interval [−1,1], for the recurrence coefficients and for the leading coefficients of the orthonormal polynomials. We also deduce asymptotic behavior for the Hankel determinants and for the monic orthogonal polynomials on the interval [−1,1]. For the asymptotic analysis we use the steepest descent technique for Riemann-Hilbert problems developed by Deift and Zhou, and applied to orthogonal polynomials on the real line by Deift, Kriecherbauer, McLaughlin, Venakides, and Zhou. In the steepest descent method we will use the Szeg? function associated with the weight and for the local analysis around the endpoints ±1 we use Bessel functions of appropriate order, whereas Deift et al. use Airy functions.  相似文献
