This paper is devoted to the study of the stability of limit cycles of a nonlinear delay differential equation with a distributed delay. The equation arises from a model of population dynamics describing the evolution of a pluripotent stem cells population. We study the local asymptotic stability of the unique nontrivial equilibrium of the delay equation and we show that its stability can be lost through a Hopf bifurcation. We then investigate the stability of the limit cycles yielded by the bifurcation using the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem. We illustrate our results with some numerics.  相似文献

This paper deals with the problem of location and existence of limit cycles for real planar polynomial differential systems. We provide a method to construct Poincar\''e--Bendixson regions by using transversal curves, that enables us to prove the existence of a limit cycle that has been numerically detected. We apply our results to several known systems, like the Brusselator one or some Li\''{e}nard systems, to prove the existence of the limit cycles and to locate them very precisely in the phase space. Our method, combined with some other classical tools can be applied to obtain sharp bounds for the bifurcation values of a saddle-node bifurcation of limit cycles, as we do for the Rychkov system.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate the limit cycles of planar piecewise linear differential systems with two zones separated by a straight line. It is well known that when these systems are continuous they can exhibit at most one limit cycle, while when they are discontinuous the question about maximum number of limit cycles that they can exhibit is still open. For these last systems there are examples exhibiting three limit cycles.The aim of this paper is to study the number of limit cycles for a special kind of planar discontinuous piecewise linear differential systems with two zones separated by a straight line which are known as refracting systems. First we obtain the existence and uniqueness of limit cycles for refracting systems of focus-node type. Second we prove that refracting systems of focus–focus type have at most one limit cycle, thus we give a positive answer to a conjecture on the uniqueness of limit cycle stated by Freire, Ponce and Torres in Freire et al. (2013). These two results complete the proof that any refracting system has at most one limit cycle.  相似文献

We present some properties of a differential system that can be used to model intratrophic predation in simple predator-prey models. We give here a planar quadratic differential system depending on two parameters, λ, δ. There is a curve in the λ-δ space corresponding to a homoclinic loop bifurcation (HLB). The bifurcation is degenerate at one point of the curve and we get a narrow tongue in which we have two limit cycles. This is the first example of such a bifurcation in planar quadratic differential systems. We propose also a model for the bifurcation diagram of a system with two limit cycles appearing at a singular point from a degenerate Hopf bifurcation, and dying in a degenerate HLB. This model shows a deep duality between degenerate Hopf bifurcations and degenerate HLBs. We give a bound for the maximal number of cycles that can appear in certain simultaneous Hopf and homoclinic loop bifurcations. We also give an example of quadratic system depending on three parameters which has at one place a degenerate Hopf bifurcation of order 3, and at another place a Hopf bifurcation of order 2 together with a HLB. We characterize the planar quadratic systems which are integrable in the neighbourhood of a homoclinic loop.  相似文献

In this paper, we give some evidences what cause more limit cycles for piecewise dynamical systems. We say, the angles or the number of zones are critical points. We study an example of linear lateral systems and an example of linear Y-shape systems, and prove that they have five and four crossing limit cycles by using Newton-Kantorovich Theorem, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider an example of third-order polynomial planar system, proposed by Zoladek who claimed that this example had eleven small-amplitude limit&nbsp;cycles around a center. In this note, we address the problem of the existence and location of periodic solutions in nonlinear differential systems in the 3–space. Our main motivation is the study, via bifurcation theory, of periodic solutions (especially limit cycles). By computing singular point values, the center conditions are established for a class of 7th-degree planar polynomial systems with 15 parameters. It is proved that such systems can have 13 small-amplitude limit cycles in the neighborhood of the origin. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of a 7th-degree system having non-homogeneous nonlinearities with thirteen limit cycles bifurcated from a fine focus.  相似文献

We consider a class of planar differential equations which include the Liénard differential equations. By applying the Bendixson-Dulac Criterion for ?-connected sets we reduce the study of the number of limit cycles for such equations to the condition that a certain function of just one variable does not change sign. As an application, this method is used to give a sharp upper bound for the number of limit cycles of some Liénard differential equations. In particular, we present a polynomial Liénard system with exactly three limit cycles.  相似文献

We find conditions for the bifurcation of periodic spatially homogeneous and spatially inhomogeneous solutions of a three-dimensional system of nonlinear partial differential equations describing a soil aggregate model. We show that the transition to diffusion chaos in this model occurs via a subharmonic cascade of bifurcations of stable limit cycles in accordance with the universal Feigenbaum–Sharkovskii–Magnitskii bifurcation theory.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish a mathematical model to describe in-plane galloping of iced transmission line with geometrical and aerodynamical nonlinearities using Hamilton principle. After Galerkin Discretization, we get a two-dimensional ordinary differential equations system, further, a near Hamiltonian system is obtained by rescaling. By calculating the coefficients of the first order Melnikov function or the Abelian integral of the near-Hamiltonian system, the number of limit cycles and their locations are obtained. We demonstrate that this model can have at least 3 limit cycles in some wind velocity. Moreover, some numerical simulations are conducted to verify the theoretical results.  相似文献

Usually is a difficult problem to provide the exact upper bound that a class of differential systems can exhibit.
