A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was modified by electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) for subsequent dsDNA immobilization. The interaction of cisplatin with dsDNA was studied at this modified electrode. Quantitative investigations were performed by adsorptive transfer stripping voltammetry (AdTSV) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The morphology and structure of graphene oxide (GO) and ERGO modified GCEs (GO/GCE and ERGO/GCE, respectively) were characterized by UV‐vis, FT‐IR, Raman spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Compared with the bare GCE and the GO/GCE, the ERGO/GCE exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of dsDNA due to guanine and adenine groups, testified by high oxidation peak currents and decreased oxidation potentials. The interaction of micromolar concentrations of cisplatin with surface confined dsDNA was readily detected as inferred from the decrease of the voltammetric oxidation peaks of guanine and adenine. This trend was significantly greater at the ERGO/GCE compared to the GO/GCE. The interaction of cisplatin with dsDNA was also studied in solution phase by AdTSV with detection at the ERGO/GCE.

In this study, Prussian blue (PB) film on the electroreduced graphene oxide (ERGO)‐modified Au electrode surface (ERGO/PB) is easily prepared by means of cyclic voltammetric technique in the mixture of K3Fe(CN)6 and FeCl3. Its electrochemical behaviors for NADH biosensor are studied. The structural and morphological characters of modified electrode material are analyzed with using of XPS, XRD, Raman, EDS, and SEM techniques. ERGO/PB hybrid nanocomposite for NADH biosensor is exhibited to the higher catalytic effect (linear range from 1.0 to 100 μM, detection limit of 0.23 μM at S/N=3) compared to naked Au, ERGO‐modified Au, and PB‐modified Au electrodes. In addition to, ERGO/PB electrode was used to voltammetric and amperometric detection of H2O2. ERGO/PB electrodes also showed the same behavior as the NADH sensor. This ERGO/PB‐modified electrode supplied a simple, new, and low‐cost route for amperometric sensing of both NADH and H2O2.

In this study, electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) was used for the preparation of a screen‐printed modified electrode and applied for the voltammetric determination of fenamiphos (FNP) in tomato samples. Graphene oxide (GO) used for sensor construction was prepared according to an improved Hummers method and characterized by XRD, TEM, and FTIR, which confirmed the nanomaterial obtention. The ERGO formation was carried out from the electrodeposition by cyclic voltammetry, at 50 mV s?1 in the potential range of 0.0 to ?1.5 V, during 50 cycles. ERGO‐SPE was used in the evaluation of the voltammetric behavior of FNP. The ERGO‐SPE proposed presented excellent electrochemical performance towards FNP oxidation, promoting an enhance on the anodic peak current and a decrease of peak potential. Under optimized conditions, it was possible to construct an analytical curve, using square wave voltammetry, with a linear region of 0.25 to 25.0 μM, with calculated limits of detection and quantification of 0.067 and 0.22 μM. From this, it was possible to analyze FNP in fortified tomato samples at three concentration levels, which showed recoveries values varying between 82 and 102 %. The ERGO‐SPE device proved useful in determining FNP, where the effect of the electrodeposition of the GO promoted a significant increase in the employability of the printed electrode.

This work presents a sensitive voltammetric method for determination of curcumin by using a electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) modified glass carbon electrode (GCE) in 100 mM KCl‐10 mM sodium phosphate buffer solution (pH 7.40). The electrochemical behaviors of curcumin at ERGO/GCE were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, suggesting that the ERGO/GCE exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity towards curcumin, compared with bare GCE and GO/GCE electrodes. The electrochemical reaction mechanisms of curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin at the ERGO/GCE were also investigated and discussed systematically. Under physiological condition, the modified electrode showed linear voltammetric response from 0.2 μM to 60.0 μM for curcumin, with the detection limit of 0.1 μm. This work demonstrates that the graphene‐modified electrode is a promising strategy for electrochemical determination of biological important phenolic compounds.

We fabricated a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for the determination of bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous solution by using reduced graphene oxide (RGO), carbon nanotubes (CNT), and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)‐modified screen‐printed electrode (SPE). GO/CNT nanocomposite was directly reduced to RGO/CNT on SPE at room temperature. AuNPs were then electrochemically deposited in situ on RGO/CNT‐modified SPE. Under optimized conditions, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) produced linear current responses for BPA concentrations of 1.45 to 20 and 20 to 1,490 nM, with a calculated detection limit of an ultralow 800 pM. The sensor response was unaffected by the presence of interferents such as phenol, p‐nitrophenol, pyrocatechol, 2,4‐dinitrophenol, and hydroquinone.

A reduced graphene oxide/platinum(II) tetraphenylporphyrin nanocomposite (RGO/Pt‐TPP)‐modified glassy carbon electrode was developed for the selective detection of hydrazine. The RGO/Pt‐TPP nanocomposite was successfully prepared via noncovalent π–π stacking interaction. The prepared nanocomposite was characterized using nuclear magnetic resonance, electrochemical impedance, ultraviolet–visible and Raman spectroscopies, scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray diffraction. The electrochemical detection of hydrazine was performed via cyclic voltammetry and amperometry. The RGO/Pt‐TPP nanocomposite exhibited good electrocatalytic activity towards detection of hydrazine with low overpotential and high oxidation peak current. The fabricated sensor exhibited a wide linear range from 13 nM to 232 μM and a detection limit of 5 nM. In addition, the fabricated sensor selectively detected hydrazine even in the presence of 500‐fold excess of common interfering ions. The fabricated electrode exhibited good sensitivity, stability, repeatability and reproducibility. In addition, the practical applicability of the sensor was evaluated in various water samples with acceptable recoveries.

An electrochemical sensor was developed based on gold nanoparticles incorporated in mesoporous MFI zeolite for the determination of purine bases. Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) were incorporated into the mesoporous MFI zeolite (AuNPs/m‐MFI) by post‐grafting reaction. The composite materials were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical methods. Au nanoparticles with a size of 5‐20 nm are uniformly dispersed in the pores of mesoporous MFI zeolite. And the morphology of MFI zeolite can be perfectly kept after pore expansion and Au nanoparticles incorporation. The electrocatalytic oxidation of purine bases (guanine and adenine in DNA) is investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The surface‐confined Au nanoparticles provide the good catalytic activity for oxidation of purine bases. The simultaneous detection of guanine and adenine can be achieved at AuNPs/m‐MFI composites modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The electrochemical sensor based on AuNPs/m‐MFI exhibits wide linear range of 0.5–500 μM and 0.8–500 μM with detection limit of 0.25 and 0.29 μM for guanine and adenine, respectively. Moreover, the electrochemical sensor is applied to evaluation of guanine and adenine in herring sperm DNA samples with satisfactory results.

High‐performance electrodes for in vivo electrochemical detection of glucose (GO) are highly desirable. In this work, we propose a new approach to efficiently and precisely prepare a Au nanowire array electrode (ANAE) with a line width of 78 nm and a large sensor area of 60 mm×60 mm for GO detection. In this approach three techniques, i.e., vacuum sputtering‐deposition, holography photolithography, and argon ion‐beam etching, are integrated. The fabricated ANAE exhibits good performance for GO detection. A linear amperometric response to the oxidation of GO in a concentration range of 0.4–10 mM is observed. The ANAE is characterized by its high detection sensitivity, selectivity, stability and good biocompatibility. All of these make it a promising tool for GO detection and other relevant applications.

A sensitive and selective hydrazine sensor was developed by β‐cyclodextrin modified palladium nanoparticles decorated reduced graphene oxide (PdNPs‐β‐CD/rGO) nanocomposite. The PdNPs‐β‐CD/rGO hybrid material was prepared by simple electrochemical method. The hydrophobic cavity of β‐CD ineracts with palladium nanoparticles by hydrophobic interaction and further it is uniformly assembled on the rGO surface through hydrogen bond formation, which is clearly confirmed by FT‐IR, FESEM and TEM. The high electrocatalytic activity of hydrazine oxidation was observed at −0.05 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) on PdNPs‐β‐CD/rGO modified electrode; due to the excellent stabilization, high catalytic activity and large surface area of the PdNPs‐β‐CD/rGO composite. The PdNPs‐β‐CD/rGO fabricated hydrazine sensor exhibited an excellent analytical performance, including high sensitivity (1.95 μA μM−1 cm−2), lower detection limit (28 nM) and a wide linear range (0.05 to 1600 μM). We also demonstrated that the PdNPs‐β‐CD/rGO nanocomposite modified electrode is a highly selective and sensitive sensor towards detection of hydrazine among the various interfering species. Hence, the proposed hydrazine sensor is able to determine hydrazine in different water samples.

A nanocomposite of HKUST‐1 (MOF) and electroreduction graphene oxide (ERGO) is prepared and applied as an electrochemical sensor for the simultaneous determination of paracetamol and dopamine by means of one‐step electrodeposition. The MOF/ERGO composite displays excellent electrochemical catalytic activities towards the paracetamol and dopamine, which is attributed to the synergistic effect of big surface area, porosity and high electrocataytic activity of the MOF and good conductivity of ERGO. The modified electrode could be applied to determine simultaneously paracetamol and dopamine in biochemical samples with wide linear ranges (0.2 μM to 160 μM for paracetamol and 0.2 μM to 300 μM for dopamine) and low detection limits (0.016 μM for paracetamol and 0.013 μM for dopamine). Meanwhile, the proposed sensor still displays high sensitivity, good selectivity and excellent stability.

This communication shows the improved performance of electrochemically‐reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) modified electrodes for the square‐wave voltammetric detection of cocaine (COC) and its main adulterants paracetamol (PAR), caffeine (CAF) and levamisole (LEV). The four compounds can be identified in a single voltammetric scan on the ERGO‐modified electrode with adequate resolution of peaks and increase in current (at least 2‐fold) in comparison with the unmodified electrode. Moreover, electrode fouling typically verified during the oxidation of CAF and LEV is eliminated. CAF and PAR were determined in a real COC sample and satisfactory recovery values were obtained (103 and 85 %, respectively).

An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor for the detection of tetrodotoxin (TTX) is proposed, which are composed of the branched poly‐(ethylenimine) (BPEI) functionalized graphene (BGNs)/Fe3O4‐Au magnetic capture probes and luminol‐capped gold nanocomposites (luminol‐AuNPs) as the signal tag. Herein, a typical sandwich immunecomplex was constructed on the glassy carbon electrode. The BGNs/Fe3O4‐Au hybrids could efficiently conjugate primary antibody via the Au−S chemical bonds or Au−N chemical bonds and rapidly separate under external magnetic field. The introduction of BPEI to GO could enhance the luminol‐ECL intensity. Meanwhile, the multifunctional nanocomposites have been proved with good water‐solubility, excellent electron transfer, outstanding stability, etc. The luminescent luminol‐AuNPs, a high efficient electrochemiluminescence marker, can be assembled on the second antibody, which can produce the ECL signal to achieve the determination of TTX. This proposed ECL immunosensor with a linear range from 0.01–100 ng/mL can be applied in the detection of TTX in real samples with satisfactory results.

We describe a simple, green and controllable approach for electrochemical synthesis of a nanocomposite made up from electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) and gold nanoparticles. This material possesses the specific features of both gold nanoparticles and graphene. Its morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy which reveals a homogeneous distribution of gold nanoparticles on the graphene sheets. Cyclic voltammetry was used to evaluate the electrochemical properties of this nanocomposite towards dopamine by modification of it on surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Compared to the bare GCE, the electrode modified with gold nanoparticles, and the electrode modified with ERGO, the one modified with the nanocomposite displays better electrocatalytic activity. Its oxidation peak current is linearly proportional to the concentration of dopamine (DA) in the range from 0.1 to 10?μM, with a detection limit of 0.04?μM (at S/N?=?3). The modified electrode also displays good storage stability, reproducibility, and selectivity.

The study presents a novel paracetamol (PA) sensor based on Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs) deposited on carboxylated graphene oxide (GO?COOH) and nafion (Nf) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The morphologies of the as prepared composites were characterized using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The experimental results demonstrated that Nf/GO?COOPd displayed excellent electrocatalytic response to the oxidation PA. The linear range was 0.04–800 μM for PA with limit of detection of 0.012 μM and excellent sensitivity of 232.89 μA mM?1 cm?2. By considering the excellent performance of Nf/GO?COOPd composite such as wider linear range, lower detection, better selectivity, repeatability, reproducibility, and storage stability, the prepared composite, especially GO?COOH support, with satisfactory electrocatalytic properties was a promising material for the modification of electrode material in electrochemical sensor and biosensor field.

The Pd‐AuNPs/GCE was used for determination of hydrazine in phosphate buffer solution of pH 7.0. The amperometric current response of the electrode was increased linearly over a hydrazine concentration of 0.1–500 µM with a limit of detection of 0.07 µM .The prepared hydrazine sensor exhibited high sensitivity, good selectivity reproducibility and long term stability.

By exploiting the electrostatic interaction between positively charged 3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene cation radicals and negatively charged sulfonated graphene (SG) sheets, we prepared a poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐sulfonated graphene (SG‐PEDOT) composite film by a one‐step electrochemical process. The composite was further decorated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and employed as an electrode material for the detection of L ‐cysteine (Cys). The SG‐PEDOT composite film is shown to provide a rough surface for the electrodeposition of AuNPs and to improve substrate accessibility and interaction with Cys. Moreover, the AuNPs‐decorated composite exhibits better electrocatalytic performance than that of a SG‐PEDOT composite only. Under optimum experimental conditions, the amperometric current of the sensor is linearly related to the concentration of Cys in the 0.1 to 382 µM range, and the detection limit is 0.02 µM (at S/N=3). The modified electrode displays favorable selectivity, good stability and high reproducibility. The method was successfully applied to the detection of Cys in spiked human urine.

In this paper, a novel electro-active graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposite was firstly prepared by covalently grafted (4-ferrocenylethyne) phenylamine (Fc-NH2) onto the surface of GO. The synthesized hybridized nanocomposite of GO-Fc-NH2 coupled with HAuCl4 simultaneously electrodeposited on the glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) to obtain rGO-Fc-NH2/AuNPs/GCE. The covalently grafted material of the rGO-Fc-NH2/AuNPs film can effectively prevent the electron mediator leaking from the electrode surface, which can hold the advantage of both the nanomaterials and electron mediator. By employing the catalysis effect of the nanomaterial and electron mediator coupling with large active surface area and high accumulation capacity of rGO-Fc-NH2/AuNPs, a synergetic signal amplification platform for ultra-sensitive detection of bisphenol A (BPA) was successfully established. With this novel sensor, the oxidation peak currents of BPA were linearly dependent on the BPA concentrations in the range of 0.005–10 μM with the detection limit of 2 nM. Modification of electron mediators on nanomaterials can greatly enhance the electrochemical performance of the sensors and will provide a new concept for fabricating newly electro-active nanomaterials-based electrochemical biosensors.

A sensitive electrochemical immunosensor for Hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) detection was fabricated based on hemin/G‐quadruplex interlaced onto Fe3O4‐AuNPs or hemin ‐amino‐reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite (H‐amino‐rGO‐Au). G‐quadruplex DNAzyme, which is composed of hemin and guanine‐rich nucleic acid, is an effective signal amplified tool for its outstanding peroxidase activity and Fe3O4‐AuNPs or (H‐amino‐rGO‐Au) nanocomposites with quasi‐enzyme activity provide appropriate support for the immobilization of hemin/G‐quadruplex. The target protein was sandwiched between the primary antibody immobilized on the GO and secondary antibody immobilized on the Fe3O4‐AuNPs or (H‐amino‐rGO‐Au) nanocomposites and glutaraldehyde was used as linking agent for the immobilization of primary antibody on the surface of GO. Both Fe3O4‐AuNPs and H‐amino‐rGO‐Au nanocomposite and also hemin/G‐quadruplex can cooperate the electrocatalytic reduction of H2O2 in the presence of methylene blue as mediator. The proposed immunosensor has a wide linear dynamic range of 0.1 pg/ml to 300 pg/ml with a detection limit of 60 fg/ml when Fe3O4‐AuNPs was used for immobilization of hemin/G‐quadruplex, while the dynamic range and DL were 0. 1–1000 pg/mL and 10 fg/mL, respectively in the presence of H‐amino‐rGO‐ Au nanocomposite as platform for immobilizing of hemin/G‐quadruplex. The proposed immunosensor was also used for analysis of HBsAg in spiked human serum samples with satisfactory results.
