The equilibrium geometries, relative stabilities, electronic and magnetic properties of small RhnCa (n = 1–9) clusters have been investigated by DFT calculations. The obtained results show that the three‐dimensional geometries are adopted for the lowest‐energy RhnCa clusters, and the doped Ca atom prefers locating on the surface of the cluster. Based on the analysis of the second‐order difference of energies, fragmentation energies and the HOMO‐LUMO energy gaps, we identify that the Rh4Ca, Rh6Ca, and Rh8Ca clusters are relatively more stable than their neighboring clusters, and the doping of Ca enhances the chemical reactivity of the pure Rhn clusters, suggesting that the RhnCa clusters can be used as nanocatalysts in many catalytic reactions. The magnetic moment for these clusters is mostly localized on the Rh atoms, and the doping Ca atom has no effect on the total magnetic moment of RhnCa clusters. The partial density of states, VIP, VEA, and η of these clusters in their ground‐state structures were also calculated and discussed. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The geometries, relative stabilities, and electronic properties of small rubidium‐doped silicon clusters RbSin (n = 1–12) have been systematically investigated using the density functional theory at the B3LYP/GENECP level. The optimized structures show that lowest‐energy isomers of RbSin are similar with the ground state isomers of pure Sin clusters and prefer the three‐dimensional for n = 3–12. The relative stabilities of RbSin clusters have been analyzed on the averaged binding energy, fragmentation energy, second‐order energy difference, and highest occupied molecular orbital‐lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy gap. The calculated results indicate that the doping of Rb atom enhances the chemical activity of Sin frame and the magic number is RbSi2. The Mulliken population analysis reveals that the charges in the corresponding RbSin clusters transfer from the Rb atom to Si atoms. The partial density of states and chemical hardness are also discussed. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A DFT study was carried out on the ground state structures of ternary CulAgmAun (l + m + n = 6) clusters, with the aim of investigating changes of thermal and kinetic stabilities as an effect of composition, as well as the composition dependence of the electrostatic potential, of stable planar structures. DFT optimizations were performed using the PBE functional and the SDD basis set. All the optimized structures adopt planar geometries with bent triangular structures. Calculated binding energy values are in the range 1.5–1.9 eV/atom, which shows their thermal stability. The predicted HOMO‐LUMO energy gap values are in the semiconductor region, providing a qualitative indication of a moderate kinetic stability. NBO analyses indicate the existence of two mechanisms promoting planar structural stability, one due to bonding‐antibonding orbital interaction, and the other one due to the well‐known spd hybridization. Wiberg indices were obtained showing interatomic bonding. Electrostatic potential calculations show the existence of nucleophilic attack regions preferentially around silver and copper atoms located at the vertices while electrophilic attack regions are found in the vicinity of gold atoms over the cluster plane. Apparently, charge transfer occurs toward gold from silver and copper atoms when the concentration is favorable in the proximity of gold atoms. In particular, if the small ternary clusters discussed here contain only one gold atom, then a high electron density is observed at the site of this gold atom. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The structural, energetic and magnetic properties of MnC(M = Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, n = 1–6) clusters are systematically investigated by density-functional calculations. We found that the ground-state geometrical structures of MnC clusters are different from those of pure Mn+1 clusters. Fe4C, Ni2C and Cu4C possess relatively higher stabilities. Doping of a C atom enhances the binding energy of Mn clusters, and the binding energies of Fen-C, Con-C and Nin-C are stronger than that of Cun-C.  相似文献

The electronic, bonding, and photophysical properties of one‐dimensional [CuCN]n (n = 1–10) chains, 2‐D [CuCN]n (n = 2–10) nanorings, and 3‐D [Cun(CN)n]m (n = 4, m = 2, 3; n = 10, m = 2) tubes are investigated by means of a multitude of computational methodologies using density functional theory (DFT) and time‐dependent‐density‐functional theory (TD‐DFT) methods. The calculations revealed that the 2‐D [CuCN]n (n = 2–10) nanorings are more stable than the respective 1‐D [CuCN]n (n = 2–10) linear chains. The 2‐D [CuCN]n (n = 2–10) nanorings are predicted to form 3‐D [Cun(CN)n]m (n = 4, m = 2, 3; n = 10, m = 2) tubes supported by weak stacking interactions, which are clearly visualized as broad regions in real space by the 3D plots of the reduced density gradient. The bonding mechanism in the 1‐D [CuCN]n (n = 1–10) chains, 2‐D [CuCN]n (n = 2–10) nanorings, and 3‐D [Cun(CN)n]m (n = 4, m = 2, 3; n = 10, m = 2) tubes are easily recognized by a multitude of electronic structure calculation approaches. Particular emphasis was given on the photophysical properties (absorption and emission spectra) of the [CuCN]n chains, nanorings, and tubes which were simulated by TD‐DFT calculations. The absorption and emission bands in the simulated TD‐DFT absorption and emission spectra have thoroughly been analyzed and assignments of the contributing principal electronic transitions associated to individual excitations have been made. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The global minimum structures of AlB3H2n (n = 0–6) clusters are determined using the stochastic search method at the B3LYP/6–31G level of theory. These initially specified geometries are recalculated using B3LYP and CCSD(T) methods using the 6–311++G** basis set. The structural and electronic properties of the two lowest‐lying isomers are presented. The structural parameters obtained for aluminum borohydride are compared with the experimental and theoretical results. The H2 fragmentation energies of the most stable isomers are investigated. Chemical bonding analyses for the global minimum of AlB3H2n (n = 0–6) clusters are performed using the adaptive natural density partitioning method. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The electronic and geometric structures, total and binding energies, first and second energy differences, harmonic frequencies, point symmetries, and highest occupied molecular orbital–lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO–LUMO) gaps of small and neutral Bn (n = 2–12) clusters have been investigated using density functional theory (DFT), B3LYP with 6‐311++G(d,p) basis set. Linear, planar, convex, quasi‐planar, three‐dimensional (3D) cage, and open‐cage structures have been found. None of the lowest energy structures and their isomers has an inner atom; i.e., all the atoms are positioned at the surface. Within this size range, the planar and quasi‐planar (convex) structures have the lowest energies. The first and the second energy differences are used to obtain the most stable sizes. A simple growth path is also discussed with the studied sizes and isomers. The results have been compared with previously available theoretical and experimental works. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Global exploration of equilibrium structures and interconversion pathways on the quantum chemical potential energy surface (PES) is performed for (H2CO)n (n = 2–4) by using the Scaled Hypersphere Search‐Anharmonic Downward Distortion Following (SHS‐ADDF) method. Density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations with empirical dispersion corrections (D3) yielded comparable results for formaldehyde dimer in comparison with recent detailed studies at CCSD(T) levels. Based on DFT‐D3 calculations, trimer and tetramer structures and their stabilities were studied. For tetramer, a highly symmetrical S4 structure was found as the most stable form in good accordance with experimentally determined tetramer unit in the formaldehyde crystal. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations within the framework of generalized gradient approximation have been used to systematically investigate the adsorption of nitric oxide (NO) molecule on neutral, cationic, and anionic Pdn (n = 1–5) clusters. NO coordinate to one Pd atom of the cluster by the end‐on mode, where the tilted end‐on structure is more favorable due to the additional electron in the π* orbital. On the contrary, in the neutral and cationic Pd2 system, NO coordinates to the bridge site of cluster preferably by the side‐on mode. Charge transfer between Pd clusters and NO molecule and the corresponding weakening of N? O bond is an essential factor for the adsorption. The N? O stretching frequency follow the order of cationic > neutral > anionic. Binding energy of NO on anionic clusters is found to be greater than those of neutral and cationic clusters. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Density‐functional with generalized gradient approximation (GGA) for the exchange‐correlation potential has been used to calculate the energetically global‐minimum geometries and electronic states of NinAl (n = 2–8) neutral clusters. Our calculations predict the existence of a number of previously unknown isomers. All structures may be derived from a substitution of a Ni atom at marginal positions by an Al atom in the Nin+1 cluster. Aluminum atom remains on the surface of the geometrical configurations. Moreover, these species prefer to adopt three‐dimensional (3D) spacial forms at the smaller number of nickel atoms compared with the pure Nin+1 (n ≥ 3) configuration. Atomization energies per atom for NinAl (n = 2–8) have the same trend as the binding energies per atom for Nin (n = 3–9). The stabilization energies reveal that Ni5Al is the relatively most stable in this series. In comparison with the magnetic moment of pure metal nickel (0.6 μB), the average magnetic moment of Ni atom increases in Ni Al clusters except the Ni3Al. Moreover, except the case of Ni5Al, Ni average magnetic moment decreases when alloyed with Al atoms than that in pure Ni clusters, which originate the effective charge transferring from Al to Ni atoms. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Excited by the recently experimental reports of monometallic cluster fullerenes, we examined the electronic and geometrical properties of monometallic cluster fullerenes YCN@Cn with size from C68 to C84 by density functional theory and statistical thermodynamic calculations. The calculations demonstrate that the thermodynamically favored isomers of YCN@Cn are in good agreement with available experimental results. Morphology analysis shows that the lowest‐energy YCN@Cn species are structurally connected by C2 insertion/extrusion and Stone–Wales rotation, which can be promoted under high temperature; enthalpy–entropy interplay can change the relative abundances of low‐energy isomers significantly at high temperature. All the results suggest that there is a structural evolution among these metallic cluster fullerenes in discharge condition, and thus, can rationalize their structural diversity in the soot and partly disclose their formation mechanism. The geometrical structures, electronic properties of these endohedral fullerene were discussed in detail.  相似文献

The geometry, electronic configurations, harmonic vibrational frequencies, and stability of the structural isomers of boron phosphide clusters have been investigated using density functional theory (DFT). CCSD(T) calculations show that the lowest‐energy structures are cyclic (IIt, IVs) with Dnh symmetry for dimers and trimers. The caged structure for B4P4 lie higher in energy than the monocyclic structure with D2d symmetry (VIs). The B–P bond dominates the structures for many isomers, so that one preferred dissociation channel is loss of the BP monomer. The hybridization and chemical bonding in the different structures are also discussed. Comparisons with boron nitride clusters, the ground state structures of BnPn (n = 2, 3) clusters are analogous to those of their corresponding BnNn (n = 2, 3) counterparts. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A modified adaptive immune optimization algorithm (AIOA) is designed for optimization of Cu–Au and Ag–Au bimetallic clusters with Gupta potential. Compared with homoatom clusters, there are homotopic isomers in bimetallic cluster, so atom exchange operation is presented in the modified AIOA. The efficiency of the algorithm is tested by optimization of CunAu38‐n (0 ≤ n ≤ 38). Results show that all the structures with the putative global minimal energies are successfully located. In the optimization of AgnAu55‐n (0 ≤ n ≤ 55) bimetallic clusters, all the structures with the reported minimal energies are obtained, and 36 structures with even lower potential energies are found. On the other hand, with the optimized structures of CunAu55‐n, it is shown that all 55‐atom Cu–Au bimetallic clusters are Mackay icosahedra except for Au55, which is a face‐centered cubic (fcc)‐like structure; Cu55, Cu12Au43, and Cu1Au54 have two‐shell Mackay icosahedral geometries with Ih point group symmetry. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The geometric configurations and electronic structures of the TinC2n (n=1–6) clusters were studied by using the quantum chemical ab initio density functional theory (DFT) method. Our studies showed that these TinC2n (n=1–6) could grow gradually to form cyclic clusters through the subunits TiC2 bonding to each other by C C or Ti C bond. The result could explain the existing experimental fact. The studies might also be helpful to the knowledge of the formation mechanism of the Met‐Cars. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The possible geometrical structures and relative stability of silicon–sulfur clusters (SiS2) (n=1–6) are explored by means of density functional theory (DFT) quantum chemical calculations. We also compare DFT with second‐order Møller–Plesset (MP2) and Hartree–Fock (HF) methods. The effects of polarization functions, diffuse functions, and electron correlation are included in MP2 and B3LYP quantum chemical calculations, and B3LYP is effective in larger cluster structure optimization, so we can conclude that the DFT approach is useful in establishing trends. The electronic structures and vibrational spectra of the most stable geometrical structures of (SiS2)n are analyzed by B3LYP. As a result, the regularity of the (SiS2)n cluster growing is obtained, and the calculation may predict the formation mechanism of the (SiS2)n cluster. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A genetic algorithm (GA) coupled with a tight‐binding (TB) interatomic potential was used to search for the low‐energy structures of the medium‐sized Nin (n = 20?30) clusters. The low‐energy candidate structures from the GA/TB search were further optimized by using the density functional theory calculations with the Perdew, Burke, and Ernzerhof exchange‐correlation energy functional. The obtained lowest‐energy structures of the medium‐sized Nin (n = 20?30) clusters are shown to exhibit double icosahedron‐based motif. The properties of the nickel clusters including binding energies, second differences in energy, and especially magnetic properties have also been studied. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Density functional theory and ab initio calculations were performed to elucidate the hydrogen interactions in (H2O4)n (n = 1–4) clusters. The optimized geometries, binding energies, and harmonic vibrational frequencies were predicted at various levels of theory. The trans conformer of the H2O4 monomer was predicted to be the most stable structure at the CCSD(T)/aug‐cc‐pVTZ level of theory. The binding energies per H2O4 monomer increased in absolute value by 9.0, 10.1, and 11.8 kcal/mol from n = 2 to n = 4 at the MP2/cc‐pVTZ level of theory (after the zero‐point vibrational energy and basis set superposition error corrections). This result implies that the intermolecular hydrogen bonds were stronger in the long‐chain clusters, that is, the formation of the longer chain in the (H2O4)n clusters was more energetically favorable.  相似文献

The geometric, spectroscopic, and electronic properties of neutral yttrium‐doped gold clusters AunY (n=1–9) are studied by far‐infrared multiple photon dissociation (FIR‐MPD) spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. Comparison of the observed and calculated vibrational spectra allows the structures of the isomers present in the molecular beam to be determined. Most of the isomers for which the IR spectra agree best with experiment are calculated to be the energetically most stable ones. Attachment of xenon to the AunY cluster can cause changes in the IR spectra, which involve band shifts and band splittings. In some cases symmetry changes, as a result of the attachment of xenon atoms, were also observed. All the AunY clusters considered prefer a low spin state. In contrast to pure gold clusters, which exhibit exclusively planar lowest‐energy structures for small sizes, several of the studied species are three‐dimensional. This is particularly the case for Au4Y and Au9Y, while for some other sizes (n=5, 8) the 3D structures have an energy similar to that of their 2D counterparts. Several of the lowest‐energy structures are quasi‐2D, that is, slightly distorted from planar shapes. For all the studied species the Y atom prefers high coordination, which is different from other metal dopants in gold clusters.  相似文献
