A due-date assignment problem with learning effect and deteriorating jobs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper we consider a single-machine scheduling problem with the effects of learning and deterioration. In this model, job processing times are defined by functions of their starting times and positions in the sequence. The problem is to determine an optimal combination of the due-date and schedule so as to minimize the sum of earliness, tardiness and due-date. We show that the problem remains polynomially solvable under the proposed model.  相似文献

This paper considers single machine scheduling problems with group technology (GT) and deteriorating jobs. We consider the case of jobs whose processing times are a simple linear function of their starting time. The two objectives of scheduling problems are to minimize the weighted sum of squared completion times and the weighted sum of squared waiting times, respectively. We also provide polynomial time algorithms to solve these problems.  相似文献

We study a single machine slack due date assignment (usually referred to as SLK) scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs and a rate-modifying activity. The deterioration effect manifest such that the job processing time is a function of its starting time in a sequence. The rate-modifying activity is an activity that changes the processing rate of machine, i.e., the machine performs a rate-modifying activity. Hence the actual processing time of a job is a variable, which depends not only on its starting time in a sequence but also on whether it is scheduled before or after a rate-modifying activity. The goal is to schedule the rate-modifying activity, the optimal common flow allowance and the sequence of jobs to minimize the total earliness, the total tardiness and the common flow allowance cost. We show that the problem remains polynomially solvable under the proposed model.  相似文献

We study a single-machine scheduling and due window assignment problem, in which job processing times are defined by functions of their starting times (deteriorating effect) and positions in the sequence (learning effect). The problem is to determine the optimal due windows and the processing sequence simultaneously to minimize costs for earliness, tardiness, the window location, window size and makespan. We show that the problem remains polynomially solvable under the proposed model for two popular due window assignment methods: The slack due date assignment method (usually referred to as SLK) and the unrestricted due date assignment method (usually referred to as DIF).  相似文献

In many realistic scheduling settings a job processed later consumes more time than when it is processed earlier – this phenomenon is known as scheduling with deteriorating jobs. In the literature on deteriorating job scheduling problems, majority of the research assumed that the actual job processing time of a job is a function of its starting time. In this paper we consider a new deterioration model where the actual job processing time of a job is a function of the processing times of the jobs already processed. We show that the single-machine scheduling problems to minimize the makespan and total completion time remain polynomially solvable under the proposed model. In addition, we prove that the problems to minimize the total weighted completion time, maximum lateness, and maximum tardiness are polynomially solvable under certain agreeable conditions.  相似文献

Although machine scheduling problems with learning and deteriorating effects consideration have received increasing attention in the recent years, most studies have seldom considered the two phenomena simultaneously. However, learning and deteriorating effects might co-exist in many realistic scheduling situations. Thus, in this article, a model which takes the effects of time-dependent learning and deterioration simultaneously is proposed and applied into some scheduling problems. Under the proposed model, the processing time of a job is determined by a function of its corresponding starting time and positional sequence in each machine. We show that some single machine and flowshop scheduling problems are polynomially solvable with the certain performance measures such as makespan, total completion time, and weighted completion time.  相似文献

We consider several single machine scheduling problems in which the processing time of a job is a linear function of its starting time and jobs can be rejected by paying penalties. The objectives are to minimize the makespan, the total weighted completion time and the maximum lateness/tardiness plus the total penalty of the rejected jobs. We show that these problems are NP-hard, and design algorithms based on dynamic programming (including pseudo-polynomial time optimal algorithms and fully polynomial time approximation schemes) to solve them.  相似文献

This paper studies the single-machine scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs and learning considerations. The objective is to minimize the makespan. We first show that the schedule produced by the largest growth rate rule is unbounded for our model, although it is an optimal solution for the scheduling problem with deteriorating jobs and no learning. We then consider three special cases of the problem, each corresponding to a specific practical scheduling scenario. Based on the derived optimal properties, we develop an optimal algorithm for each of these cases. Finally, we consider a relaxed model of the second special case, and present a heuristic and analyze its worst-case performance bound.  相似文献

In this study we consider unrelated parallel machines scheduling problems with learning effect and deteriorating jobs, in which the actual processing time of a job is a function of joint time-dependent deterioration and position-dependent learning. The objective is to determine the jobs assigned to corresponding each machine and the corresponding optimal schedule to minimize a cost function containing total completion (waiting) time, total absolute differences in completion (waiting) times and total machine load. If the number of machines is a given constant, we show that the problems can be solved in polynomial time under the time-dependent deterioration and position-dependent learning model.  相似文献

This paper studies a single machine scheduling problem simultaneously with deteriorating jobs and learning effects. The objectives are to minimize the makespan and the number of tardy jobs, respectively. Two polynomial time algorithms are proposed to solve these problems optimally.  相似文献

This paper considers some scheduling problems with deteriorating jobs. The objectives are to minimize the makespan, the total completion time, the total absolute deviation of completion time, the earliness, tardiness, and due date penalty, the sum of earliness penalties subject to no tardy jobs, respectively. We also explore two resource constrained scheduling problems: how to minimize the resource consumption with makespan constraints and how to minimize the makespan with the total resource consumption constraints. Several polynomial time algorithms are proposed to optimally solve the problems with the above objective functions.  相似文献

Deteriorating jobs scheduling problems have been extensively studied in recent years. However, it is assumed that there is a common goal to minimize for all jobs in most of the research. In many management situations, multiple agents compete on the usage of a common processing resource. In this paper, we considered a single-machine scheduling problem with a linear deterioration assumption where the objective is to minimize the total weighted completion time of jobs from the first agent with the restriction that no tardy job is allowed for the second agent. We proposed a branch-and-bound algorithm and three heuristic algorithms to search for the optimal solution and near-optimal solutions, respectively. A computational experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms.  相似文献

We consider two problems of scheduling a set of independent, non-preemptable and proportionally deteriorating jobs on a single machine. In the first problem, the machine is not continuously available for processing but the number of non-availability periods, the start time and end time of each period are known in advance. In the second problem, the machine is available all the time but for each job a ready time and a deadline are defined. In both problems the criterion of schedule optimality is the maximum completion time. We show that the decision version of the first (the second) problem is NP-complete in the ordinary or in the strong sense, depending on the number of non-availability periods (the number of ready times and deadlines).  相似文献

In this paper, we study the permutation flow shop scheduling problems with deteriorating jobs on no-idle dominant machines. The objective is to minimize one of the two regular performance criteria, namely, makespan and total completion time. For each objective, the following dominant machines constraint: idm, ddm, idmddm and ddmidm are considered. We present a polynomial time solution algorithm for each of the four cases.  相似文献

The main results in a recent paper [M. Cheng, S. Sun, L. He, Flow shop scheduling problems with deteriorating jobs on no-idle dominant machines, European Journal of Operational Research 183 (2007) 115–124] are incorrect because job processing times are variable due to deteriorating effect, which is not taken into account by the authors. In this note, we show first by counter-examples that the published results are incorrect, and then we provide corrected results.  相似文献

In this study, we consider scheduling problems with convex resource dependent processing times and deteriorating jobs, in which the processing time of a job is a function of its starting time and its convex resource allocation. The objective is to find the optimal sequence of jobs and the optimal convex resource allocation separately. This paper focus on the single-machine problems with objectives of minimizing a cost function containing makespan, total completion time, total absolute differences in completion times and total resource cost, and a cost function containing makespan, total waiting time, total absolute differences in waiting times and total resource cost. It shows that the problems remain polynomially solvable under the proposed model.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the single machine scheduling problems with an actual time-dependent deterioration effect. By the actual time-dependent deterioration effect, we mean that the processing time of a job is defined by increasing function of total actual processing time of jobs in front of it in the sequence. We show that even with the introduction of an actual time-dependent deterioration to job processing times, makespan minimization problem, total completion time minimization problem, the total lateness, and the sum of the quadratic job completion times minimization problem remain polynomially solvable, respectively. We also show that the total weighted completion time minimization problem, the discounted total weighted completion time minimization problem, the maximum lateness minimization problem, and the total tardiness minimization problem can be solved in polynomial time under certain conditions.  相似文献

We consider the single machine scheduling problem to minimize total completion time with fixed jobs, precedence constraints and release dates. There are some jobs that are already fixed in the schedule. The remaining jobs are free to be assigned to any free-time intervals on the machine in such a way that they do not overlap with the fixed jobs. Each free job has a release date, and the order of processing the free jobs is restricted by the given precedence constraints. The objective is to minimize the total completion time. This problem is strongly NP-hard. Approximability of this problem is studied in this paper. When the jobs are processed without preemption, we show that the problem has a linear-time n-approximation algorithm, but no pseudopolynomial-time (1 − δ)n-approximation algorithm exists even if all the release dates are zero, for any constant δ > 0, if P ≠ NP, where n is the number of jobs; for the case that the jobs have no precedence constraints and no release dates, we show that the problem has no pseudopolynomial-time (2 − δ)-approximation algorithm, for any constant δ > 0, if P ≠ NP, and for the weighted version, we show that the problem has no polynomial-time 2q(n)-approximation algorithm and no pseudopolynomial-time q(n)-approximation algorithm, where q(n) is any given polynomial of n. When preemption is allowed, we show that the problem with independent jobs can be solved in O(n log n) time with distinct release dates, but the weighted version is strongly NP-hard even with no release dates; the problems with weighted independent jobs or with jobs under precedence constraints are shown having polynomial-time n-approximation algorithms. We also establish the relationship of the approximability between the fixed job scheduling problem and the bin-packing problem.  相似文献

We study a static stochastic single machine scheduling problem in which jobs have random processing times with arbitrary distributions, due dates are known with certainty, and fixed individual penalties (or weights) are imposed on both early and tardy jobs. The objective is to find an optimal sequence that minimizes the expected total weighted number of early and tardy jobs. The general problem is NP-hard to solve; however, in this paper, we develop certain conditions under which the problem is solvable exactly. An efficient heuristic is also introduced to find a candidate for the optimal sequence of the general problem. Our illustrative examples and computational results demonstrate that the heuristic performs well in identifying either optimal sequences or good candidates with low errors. Furthermore, we show that special cases of the problem studied here reduce to some classical stochastic single machine scheduling problems including the problem of minimizing the expected weighted number of early jobs and the problem of minimizing the expected weighted number of tardy jobs which are both solvable by the proposed exact or heuristic methods.  相似文献
