The Radical Anions of N,N′-Dicyanoquinone Diimines,a New Class of Electron Acceptors

The radical anions of 12 N,N′-dicyanoquinone diimines, a new class of electron acceptors, hace been characterized by their hyperfine data with the use of ESR and ENDOR spectroscopy. The largest coupling constant (0.30–0.45 mT), due to the two ¹⁴N nuclei in the exocyclic positions, gives rise to a conspicuous broadening of the peripheral ESR lines by an incomplete averaging of the hyperfine anisotropy. The most plausible interpretation of the experimental results for the radical anions of N,N′-dicyano- 1,4-benzoquinone diimine ( 1 ) and N,N′-Dicyano-9,10-anthraquinone diimine ( 9 ) is in terms of both ‘syn’- and ‘anti’-configurations contributing to the ESR and ENDOR spectra and having equal proton- and ¹⁴N-coupling constants. The π-spin distribution in the radical anions of N,N′-dicyanoquinone diimines is compared with those in the analogous ions of tetracyanoquinodimethanes and quinones.     

Electrochemical Approach to the Radical Anion Formation from 2′‐Hydroxy Chalcone Derivatives

Three 2′‐hydroxy chalcone derivatives were electrochemically reduced to the radical anion by a reversible one‐electron transfer followed by a chemical dimerization reaction. Under suitable conditions of the medium, the one‐electron reduction produces very well resolved cyclic voltammograms due to the formation of the radical anion. By using appropriately the wide versatility of the cyclic voltammetric technique, was possible to study the generation of the radical anion and its stability.     

A complex containing three different kinds of Ru—N bonds: ethoxydinitronitrosyl(N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine‐κ2N,N′)ruthenium(II)

The octahedral title compound, [Ru(C₂H₅O)(NO)(NO₂)₂(C₆H₁₆N₂)], crystallizes in the rhombohedral space group P3₁ with an ethoxy ligand axially coordinated trans to the nitro­syl ligand. The Ru^II ion is equatorially coordinated by a tetramethylethylenediamine group acting as a bidentate ligand, and to two nitro moieties whose planes are tilted with respect to the mean equatorial plane. Each nitro­gen ligand bonded to the metallic centre has a different hybridization state.     

A Copper(II) Ion‐Selective Potentiometric Sensor Based on N,N′,N″,N′′′‐Tetrakis(2‐pyridylmethyl)‐1,4,8,11‐tetraazacyclotetradecane in PVC Matrix

The simple PVC‐based membrane containing N,N′,N″,N′′′‐tetrakis(2‐pyridylmethyl)‐1,4,8,11‐tetraazacyclotetradecane (tpmc) as an ionophore and dibutyl phthalate as a plasticizer, directly coated on a glassy carbon electrode was examined as a new sensor for Cu²⁺ ions. The potential response was linear within the concentration range of 1.0×10^?1–1.0×10^?6 M with a Nernstian slope of 28.8 mV/decade and detection limit of 7.0×10^?7 M. The electrode was used in aqueous solutions over a wide pH range (1.3–6). The sensor exhibited excellent selectivity for Cu²⁺ ion over a number of cations and was successfully used in its determination in real samples.     

Complexes of diorganotin(IV) dihalides with N,N′-dimethyl-2, 2′-bisimidazole

Adducts of N, N′ -dimethyl-2, 2′-bisimidazole (DMBIm) with diethyl- and dibutyl-tin(IV) dihalides (Cl, Br) have been isolated and characterized. IR data for [SnR₂X₂(DMBIm)] compounds are in keeping with a six-coordinate tin atom with DMBIm acting as a bidentate ligand, whereas in [(SnR₂X₂)₂(DMBIm)] the tin is five-coordinate and DMBIm acts as a bridging ligand. Measurements of conductivity in acetonitrile show the adducts to behave as non-ionogens in this solvent. NMR data show them to undergo dissociation in CDCl₃.     

The Synthesis of N‐Glycosyl‐N′‐Pyrazolylmethylene Aminothioureas under a 4Å Molecular Sieve

A series of novel N‐glycosyl‐N′‐pyrazolylmethylene aminothioureas ( 4a‐4e, 5a‐5e ) were synthesized from N‐glycosyl‐N′‐aminothioureas ( 2a‐2d ) and 4‐formylpyrazole ( 3a‐3e ). Activated 4Å molecular sieves were adopted for dehydrated reagent to improve the reaction rate and yield. The structures of the new compounds were identified on the basis of IR, ¹H NMR and MS spectra. Simultaneously, the compounds were detected by fluorescence spectrophotometer and had preferable fluorescence activity, so they can be selected as a kind of novel fluorescence labeled derivative of sugar.     

Copper(II) Complexes of N,N′-Bis-βCarbamoylethyl) Ethylenediamine in Aqueous Solution

The interactions of the ligand N, N -bis-(β-carbamoylethyl)-ethylenediamine (BCEN) with copper (II) in aqueous solution have been investigated by potentiometric and spectrophotometric techniques. The two protonation constants of the ligand at 25° in 0.2 M NaNO₃are 10^5-51and 10^5-44 The quantitative equilibrium studies of the stepwise reactions which precede the formation of CuBCEN²⁺ and the Cu-O to Cu-N bond rearrangements at the two amide sites are described in detail. Electronic spectra of the copper (II) chelates formed are measured and discussed.     

Reaction of N,N′-carbonyldiimidazole and N,N′-thionyldiimidazole with carbonyl compounds: a new imidazole transfer reaction

Ketones and aldehydes undergo facile addition reaction with N,N′-thionyldiimidazole to give the monoimidazole and the diimidazole.     

Crystal Structure of CH2[N(SO2F)2]2, N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(fluorosulfuryl)methylenediamine

CH₂[N(SO₂F)₂]₂ is monoclinic, space group P2₁/c, with 8 molecules in the unit cell. The structure, which was solved by direct methods in a straightforward manner and refined to R = 0.082 for 2647 diffractometer intensities, consists of discrete molecules.
