Three new bis(ether‐acyl chloride) monomers, 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]cyclohexane ( 1a ), 5,5‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐4,7‐methanohexahydroindan ( 1b ), and 9,9‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene ( 1c ), were synthesized from readily available compounds. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles bearing ether and cardo groups were obtained by the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(ether‐acyl chloride)s with three bis(aminophenol)s and the subsequent thermal cyclodehydration of the resultant poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s. The intermediate poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s exhibited inherent viscosities in the range of 0.35–0.71 dL/g. All of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s were amorphous and soluble in many organic polar solvents, and most of them could afford flexible and tough films by solvent casting. The poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) in the range of 141–169 °C and could be thermally converted into the corresponding polybenzoxazoles approximately in the region of 240–350 °C, as indicated by the DSC thermograms. Flexible and tough films of polybenzoxazoles could be obtained by thermal cyclodehydration of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide) films. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous and showed an enhanced Tg but a dramatically decreased solubility as compared with their poly(o‐hydroxy amide) precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 215–272 °C by DSC and showed insignificant weight loss before 500 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Novel phenyl-pendant aromatic polythiazoles having inherent viscosities of 0.3–1.3 dL/g were synthesized by the solution polycondensation of bis[4-(α-bromophenylacetyl)phenyl] ether with aromatic dithioamides or dithiooxamide in dimethylformamide at 60°C. The polythiazole having m-phenylene linkage was readily soluble in chloroform and m-cresol, and transparent flexible film could be cast from the chloroform solution. Glass transition temperatures of these polythiazoles were in the range of 210–250°C. They started to decompose at about 500°C in air with 10% weight loss being recorded at around 570°C.  相似文献

Two new bis(ether acyl chloride)s, 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenylethane and 1,1‐bis[4‐(4‐chloroformylphenoxy)phenyl]‐1‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethane, were prepared from readily available reagents. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles with both ether and phenylethylidene or 1‐phenyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroethylidene linkages between phenylene units were obtained by a conventional two‐step procedure including the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(ether acyl chloride)s with three bis(o‐aminophenol)s, yielding poly(o‐hydroxyamide) precursors, and subsequent thermal cyclodehydration. The intermediate poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s exhibited inherent viscosities of 0.39–0.98 dL/g. All of the poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s were amorphous and soluble in polar organic solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide, and most of them could afford flexible and tough films via solvent casting. The poly(o‐hydroxyamide)s exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) of 129–194 °C and could be thermally converted into corresponding polybenzoxazoles in the solid state at temperatures higher than 300 °C. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous and showed an enhanced Tg but a dramatically decreased solubility with to respect to their poly(o‐hydroxyamide) precursors. They exhibited Tg's of 216–236 °C through differential scanning calorimetry and were stable up to 500 °C in nitrogen or air, with 10% weight‐loss temperatures being recorded between 538 and 562 °C in nitrogen or air. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The acid-catalyzed stepwise polymerization of 1,1-diphenylethylene derivatives, p-di(1-phenylvinyl) benzene, bis[p-(1-phenylvinyl)phenyl]methane, 1,2-bis[p-(1-phenylvinyl)phenyl]ethane, bis[p-(1-phenylvinyl)phenyl]ether, and bis[p-(1-phenylvinyl)phenyl]sulfide produced selectively indanic-unit-containing polymers in pertinent conditions. Their molecular weights (M?n) were in the 1600–15, 700 region after the fractionation in hot ethnol. Melting points were in the 214–281°C region. They dissolved fairly well in conventional solvents like benzene, tetrahydrofuran, and carbon tetrachloride. According to TGA they started to decompose at 397–432°C and showed 10% weight loss at 478–502°C in air at a heating rate of 5°C/min. Focusing on the thermostability, we report on their physical properties.  相似文献

New polyphthalimidine-forming monomers, 5,5′-(oxydi-p-phenylenedicarbonyl)bis(3-benzylidenephthalide) and the 6,6′-derivative, were synthesized by the Friedel–Crafts reaction of diphenyl ether with 5- and 6-chloroformyl-3-benzylidenephthalide, respectively. The direct polycondensation of these bisphthalides with both aliphatic and aromatic diamines in o-phenylphenol at 200–250°C afforded polyphthalimidines having inherent viscosities of 0.2–1.2 dL/g in almost quantitative yields. Syntheses of aliphatic polyphthalimidines with higher inherent viscosities were also achieved by a two-step procedure involving ring-opening polyaddition and subsequent thermal cyclodehydration. All the polymers were amorphous and readily soluble in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), m-cresol, nitrobenzene, pyridine, and chloroform. Tough and flexible films could be cast from NMP solutions of the polymers. Glass transition temperatures of the polyphthalimidines were in the range of 158–246°C. The thermogravimetry of the aromatic polymers showed 10% weight loss in air and nitrogen at 445–515 and 500–520°C, respectively. The crosslinking reaction of some benzylidenependant polyphthalimidines took place at 300°C through double-bond addition to afford cured polymers with improved thermal stability.  相似文献

Two new triphenylamine-based bis (o-aminophenol) monomers, 4,4′-diamino-3,3′-dihydroxytriphenylamines, were successfully synthesized by the cesium fluoride-mediated condensation of 2-(benzyloxy)-4-fluoronitrobenzene with aniline derivatives, followed by simultaneous deprotection and reduction. Aromatic polybenzoxazoles having inherent viscosities of 0.58–1.05 dL/g were obtained by the low-temperature solution polycondensation of the bis(aminophenol)s with various aromatic dicarboxylic acid chlorides and the subsequent thermal cyclodehydration of the resultant poly(hydroxyamide)s. All the polybenzoxazoles were amorphous, and most of them were soluble in organic solvents such as m-cresol and o-chlorophenol. Flexible and tough films of polybenzoxazoles could be cast from the DMAc solutions of some aromatic poly(hydroxyamide)s, followed by thermal cyclodehydration. The glass transition temperatures and 10% weight loss temperatures of the polybenzoxazoles under nitrogen were in the range of 262–327 and 610–640°C, respectively. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The synthesis and self‐polyaddition of new monomers, o‐, m‐, and p‐[(3‐ethyloxetane‐3‐yl)methoxyethyl]benzoic acid (o‐EOMB, m‐EOMB, and p‐EOMB) containing both oxetanyl groups and carboxyl groups were examined. The reactions of o‐EOMB, m‐EOMB, and p‐EOMB in the presence of tetraphenylphosphonium bromide as a catalyst in o‐dichlorobenzene at 150–170 °C resulted in self‐polyaddition to give the corresponding hetero‐telechelic polymers poly(o‐EOMB), poly(m‐EOMB), and poly(p‐EOMB) with Mns = 14,500–33,400 in satisfactory yields. The Mn of poly(o‐EOMB) decreased at higher reaction temperatures than 150 °C, unlike those of poly(m‐EOMB) and poly(p‐EOMB), possibly due to inter‐ or intraester exchange side reactions. It was also found that the thermal properties and solubilities of these polymers were supposed with the proposed structures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Highly refractive and transparent polyimides (PIs) based on fluorene‐bridged and sulfur‐containing monomers have been developed. An aromatic dianhydride, 4,4′‐[p‐thiobis(phenylenesulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (3SDEA), was polymerized with several fluorene‐containing diamines, including commercially available 9,9′‐bis(p‐aminophenyl)fluorene (APF), 9,9′‐bis[4‐(p‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]fluorene (OAPF), and newly synthesized 9,9′‐bis[4‐(p‐aminophenyl)sulfanylphenyl]fluorene (ASPF) to afford series A PIs. Meanwhile, series B PIs were obtained from a new dianhydride, 4,4′‐[(9H‐fluorene‐9‐ylidene)bis(p‐phenylsulfanyl)]diphthalic anhydride (FPSP) and two aromatic diamines, ASPF and 4,4′‐thiobis[(p‐phenylenesulfanyl)aniline] (3SDA) via a two‐step polycondensation procedure. The PIs exhibit good thermal stabilities, such as relatively high glass transition temperatures in the range of 220–270 °C and high initial thermal decomposition temperatures (T10%) exceeding 490 °C. The 9,9′‐disubstituted fluorene moieties endow the PI films with good optical transparency. The optical transmittances of the PI films at 450 nm are all higher than 80% for the thickness of about 10 μm. Furthermore, the highly aromatic fluorene moiety and flexible thioether linkages in the molecular chains of the PIs provide them with high refractive indices of 1.6951–1.7258 and small birefringence of 0.0056–0.0070. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new cardo diacid chloride, 1,1‐bis‐[4‐(4‐chlorocarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]‐4‐tert‐butylcyclohexane ( 4 ), was synthesized from 1,1‐bis‐[4‐(4‐carboxyphenoxy)phenyl]‐4‐tert‐butylcyclohexane in refluxing thionyl chloride. Subsequently, various new polyesters were prepared from 4 with various bisphenols by solution polycondensation in nitrobenzene using pyridine as a hydrogen chloride quencher at 150 °C. These polyesters were produced with inherent viscosities of 0.32–0.50 dL · g?1. Most of these polyesters exhibited excellent solubility in a variety of solvents such as N,N‐dimethylformamide, tetrahydrofuran, tetrachloroethane, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, m‐cresol, o‐chlorophenol, and chloroform. These polymers showed glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) between 144 and 197 °C. The polymer containing the adamantane group exhibited the highest Tg value. The 10% weight loss temperatures of the polyesters, measured by thermogravimetric analysis, were found to be in the range of 426–451 °C in nitrogen. These cardo polyesters exhibited higher Tg's and better solubility than bisphenol A‐based polyesters. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 2951–2956, 2001  相似文献

Novel fluorocarbon bis(o-aminophenol) monomers were synthesized by a multistep route from 1,3-diiodohexafluoropropane and 1,8-diiodohexadecafluorooctane. The acetic acid-promoted polycondensation of these monomers with fluorocarbon ether-diimidate esters led to linear, soluble fluorocarbon ether-bibenzoxazole polymers with inherent viscosities in the range of 0.10–0.94 dl/g?1. Polymer structures were verified by elemental and infrared (IR) spectral analysis. Many of the polymers exhibited considerable crystallinity in which the crystalline melt temperatures ranged from 53 to 187°C, as determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Some polymers, however, were isolated as completely amorphous, rubbery gums that exhibited glass transition temperatures as low as ?31°C. Good thermooxidative stabilities were exhibited with onset of weight loss of the polymers during thermogravimetric analysis in an air atmosphere occurring in the 375–450°C range.  相似文献

A new adamantane‐based bis(ether anhydride), 2,2‐bis[4‐(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]adamantane dianhydride, was prepared in three steps starting from nitrodisplacement of 4‐nitrophthalonitrile with the potassium phenolate of 2,2‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)adamantane. A series of adamantane‐containing poly(ether imide)s were prepared from the adamantane‐based bis(ether anhydride) and aromatic diamines by a conventional two‐stage synthesis in which the poly(ether amic acid)s obtained in the first stage were heated stage‐by‐stage at 150–270°C to give the poly(ether imide)s. The intermediate poly(ether amic acid)s had inherent viscosities between 0.56 and 1.92 dL/g. Except for those from p‐phenylenediamine, m‐phenylenediamine, and benzidine, all the poly(ether amic acid) films could be thermally converted into transparent, flexible, and tough poly(ether imide) films. All the poly(ether imide)s showed limited solubility in organic solvents, although they were amorphous in nature as evidenced by X‐ray diffractograms. Glass transition temperatures of these poly(ether imide)s were recorded in the range of 242–317°C by differential scanning calorimetry and of 270–322°C by dynamic mechanical analysis. They exhibited high resistance to thermal degrdation, with 10% weight loss temperatures being recorded between 514–538°C in nitrogen and 511–527°C in air. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A novel bis(ether anhydride) monomer, 9,9‐bis[4‐(3,4‐dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene dianhydride (4), was synthesized from the nitrodisplacement of 4‐nitrophthalonitrile by the bisphenoxide ion of 9,9‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)fluorene (1), followed by alkaline hydrolysis of the intermediate tetranitrile and dehydration of the resulting tetracarboxylic acid. A series of poly(ether imide)s bearing the fluorenylidene group were prepared from the bis(ether anhydride) 4 with various aromatic diamines 5a–i via a conventional two‐stage process that included ring‐opening polyaddition to form the poly(amic acid)s 6a–i followed by thermal cyclodehydration to the polyimides 7a–i. The intermediate poly(amic acid)s had inherent viscosities in the range of 0.39–1.57 dL/g and afforded flexible and tough films by solution‐casting. Except for those derived from p‐phenylenediamine, m‐phenylenediamine, and benzidine, all other poly(amic acid) films could be thermally transformed into flexible and tough polyimide films. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of these poly(ether imide)s were recorded between 238–306°C with the help of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and the softening temperatures (Ts) determined by thermomechanical analysis (TMA) stayed in the range of 231–301°C. Decomposition temperatures for 10% weight loss all occurred above 540°C in an air or a nitrogen atmosphere. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 37: 1403–1412, 1999  相似文献

A micro flow system consisting of micromixers and microtube reactors provides an effective method for the introduction of two electrophiles onto p‐, m‐, and o‐dibromobenzenes. The Br–Li exchange reaction of p‐dibromobenzene with nBuLi can be conducted by using the micro flow system at 20 °C, although much lower temperatures (p‐bromophenyllithium was allowed to react with an electrophile in the micro flow system at 20 °C. The p‐substituted bromobenzene thus obtained was subjected to a second Br–Li exchange reaction followed by reaction with a second electrophile at 20 °C in one flow. A similar transformation can be carried out with m‐dibromobenzene by using the micro flow system. However, the Br–Li exchange reaction of o‐dibromobenzene followed by reaction with an electrophile should be conducted at ?78 °C to avoid benzyne formation. The second Br–Li exchange reaction followed by reaction with an electrophile can be carried out at 0 °C. By using the present method, a variety of p‐, m‐, and o‐disubstituted benzenes were synthesized in one flow at much higher temperatures than are required for conventional batch reactions.  相似文献

A series of poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s having both ether and sulfone linkages in the main chain were synthesized via the low‐temperature solution polycondensation of 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoyl chloride and 4,4′‐[sulfonylbis(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene)dioxy]dibenzoyl chloride with three bis(o‐aminophenol)s including 4,4′‐diamino‐3,3′‐dihydroxybiphenyl, 3,3′‐diamino‐4,4′‐dihydroxybiphenyl, and 2,2‐bis(3‐diamino‐4‐hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane. Subsequent thermal cyclodehydration of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s afforded polyethersulfone benzoxazoles. Most of the poly(o‐hydroxy amide)s were soluble in polar organic solvents such as N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone; however, the polybenzoxazoles without the hexafluoroisopropylidene group were organic‐insoluble. The polybenzoxazoles exhibited glass‐transition temperatures (Tg) in the range of 219–282 °C by DSC and softening temperatures (Ts) of 242–320 °C by thermomechanical analysis. Thermogravimetric analyses indicated that most polybenzoxazoles were stable up to 450 °C in air or nitrogen. The 10% weight loss temperatures were recorded in the ranges of 474–593 °C in air and 478–643 °C in nitrogen. The methyl‐substituted polybenzoxazoles had higher Tg's but lower Ts's and initial decomposition temperatures compared with the corresponding unsubstituted polybenzoxazoles. For a comparative purpose, the synthesis and characterization of a series of sulfonyl polybenzoxazoles without the ether group that derived from 4,4′‐sulfonyldibenzoyl chloride and bis(o‐aminophenol)s were also reported. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new poly(o-hydroxy amide-imide)s with high molecular weights were synthesized by low-temperature solution polycondensation from a preformed imide ring and chloro- or dichloro-substituted p-phenylene-containing diacid chlorides of 2,5-bis(trimellitimido)chlorobenzene or 1,4-bis(trimellitimido)-2,5-dichlorobenzene and three bis(o-amino phenol)s. All the poly(o-hydroxy amide-imide)s were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and N,N-dimethylacetamide. Transparent and flexible films of these polymers were cast from their solutions. The cast films had tensile strengths ranging from 88 to 102 MPa and elongations at break of 8–12%. Subsequent thermal cyclodehydration of the poly(o-hydroxy amide-imide)s afforded novel poly(benzoxazole-imide)s. The poly(benzoxazole-imide)s exhibited glass-transition temperatures in the range of 310–338 °C and were stable up to 500 °C in nitrogen, with 10% weight-loss temperatures recorded between 550 and 570 °C in nitrogen. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Ring-substituted methylstyrenes (p-, m-, and o-methylstyrenes) in conjunction with acetyl perchlorate (AcClO4) or trifluoromethanesulfonic acid as catalysts gave their linear unsaturated dimer in high yield in benzene at temperatures from 50 to 70°C. In particular, the yield of o-methylstyrene dimer was as high as 90% in the AcClO4 catalysis at 50°C. The dimer yield depended on solvent and catalyst. The terminal structures of the dimers and higher oligomers were analyzed by NMR spectroscopy. Oligomers with a cyclic terminal structure increased in the products at higher temperature. The dimer yield was improved by codimerizing p-methylstyrene with less reactive m-methylstyrene or styrene with AcClO4 catalyst. The dimers obtained partly consisted of linear unsaturated codimers.  相似文献

Eleven bis(phenoxy) naphthalene-containing poly(amide-imide)s IIIa–k were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of 2,7-bis (4-aminophenoxy) naphthalene (DAPON) with various aromatic bis (trimellitimide)s IIa–k in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. Poly (amide-imide)s IIIa–k having inherent viscosities of 0.70–1.12 dL/g were obtained in quantitative yields. The polymers containing p-phenylene or bis(phenoxy) benzene units exhibited crystalline x-ray diffraction patterns. Most of the polymers were readily soluble in various solvents such as NMP, N, N-dimethylacetamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, m-cresol, o-chlorophenol, and pyridine, and gave transparent, and flexible films cast from DMAc solutions. Cast films showed obvious yield points in the stress-strain curves and had strength at break up to 87 MPa, elongation to break up to 11%, and initial modulus up to 2.10 GPa. These poly(amide-imide)s had glass transition temperatures in the range of 255–321°C, and the 10% weight loss temperatures were recorded in the range of 529–586°C in nitrogen. The properties of poly(amideimide)s IIIa–k were compared with those of the corresponding isomeric poly (amide-imide)s III′ prepared from 2,7-bis(4-trimellitimidophenoxy) naphthalene and aromatic diamines. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

High molecular weight, linear polyethers were prepared by polymerizing a series of ring-substituted phenyl glycidyl ethers by using the ferric chloride–propylene oxide and dibutylzinc–water catalyst systems. The α-naphthyl, β-naphthyl, p-phenylphenyl, the o-, m-, and p-methyl, and the o- and p-chlorophenyl polymers resemble the parent polymer in that they are readily crystallizable polyethers which have melting points above 170°C. The other substituted poly(phenyl glycidyl ethers), including the o- and p-isopropyl, p-tert-butyl, p-octyl, and 2,4,6-trichloro derivatives show much less tendency to crystallize and are lower melting. The x-ray and electron diffraction data established that poly(o-chlorophenyl glycidyl ether) crystallizes in an orthorhombic unit cell; data obtained in a parallel study of unsubstituted poly(phenyl glycidyl ether) did not allow assignment of a specific structure.  相似文献

1-Phenyl-2-[m-(trimethylgermyl)phenyl]acetylene (m-Me3GeDPA) and 1-phenyl-2-[p-(trimethylgermyl)phenyl]acetylene (p-Me3GeDPA) polymerized with TaCl5–cocatalyst systems to provide in high yields new polymers having weight-average molecular weights over 1 × 106. Poly(m-Me3GeDPA) was a yellow solid, which completely dissolved in toluene, chloroform, etc., to form a tough film by solution casting. Poly(p-Me3GeDPA) was also a yellow solid and partly insoluble in any solvents. The onset temperatures of weight loss for these polymers in the thermogravimetric analysis in air were as high as ca. 400°C. The oxygen permeability coefficient of poly(m-Me3GeDPA) was 1100 barrers (25°C), which is about twice that of poly(dimethylsiloxane). © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(arylene ether)s containing N-arylenebenzimidazole groups were prepared by the aromatic nucleophilic displacement reaction of two new bis(hydroxyphenyl-N-arylenebenzimidazole)s with activated aromatic difluorides in sulfolane at 200°C in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate. The bis(hydroxyphenyl-N-arylenebenzimidazole)s were prepared from bis(o-aminoanilino) arylenes and phenyl-4-hydroxybenzoate. The polymers were soluble in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and m-cresol and exhibited inherent viscosities from 0.37–0.86 dL/g and glass transition temperatures from 219–289°C. Thermogravimetric analyses showed 5% weight losses from 463–506°C in air and 467–522°C in nitrogen. Unoriented thin films exhibited tensile strengths, moduli, and break elongations at 23°C of 10.2–12.5 ksi, 318–365 ksi, and 4–7%, respectively, and at 177°C of 5.1–6.9 ksi, 256–296 ksi, and 1–5%, respectively. A 50 : 50 random copolymer prepared from 1,3-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl) benzene, 1,1'-(4,4'-biphenylene)-bis[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole], and 5,5'-bis[2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole] exhibited higher moisture absorption and lower tensile properties than those predicted by a rule of mixtures relationship. The chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of these polymers are discussed. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.?  相似文献
