Although the role of intermolecular aromatic π–π interactions in the self‐assembly of di‐l ‐phenylalanine (l ‐Phe‐l ‐Phe, FF), a peptide that is known for hierarchical structure, is well established, the influence of intramolecular π–π interactions on the morphology of the self‐assembled structure of FF has not been studied. Herein, the role of intramolecular aromatic π–π interactions is investigated for FF and analogous alanine (Ala)‐containing dipeptides, namely, l ‐Phe‐l ‐Ala (FA) and l ‐Ala‐l ‐Phe (AF). The results reveal that these dipeptides not only form self‐assemblies, but also exhibit remarkable differences in structural morphology. The morphological differences between FF and the analogues indicate the importance of intramolecular π–π interactions, and the structural difference between FA and AF demonstrates the crucial role of the nature of intramolecular side‐chain interactions (aromatic–aliphatic or aliphatic–aromatic), in addition to intermolecular interactions, in deciding the final morphology of the self‐assembled structure. The current results emphasise that intramolecular aromatic π–π interaction may not be essential to induce self‐assembly in smaller peptides, and π (aromatic)–alkyl or alkyl–π (aromatic) interactions may be sufficient. This work also illustrates the versatility of aromatic and a combination of aromatic and aliphatic residues in dipeptides in the formation of structurally diverse self‐assembled structures.  相似文献

We have designed and utilized a simple molecular recognition system to study the substituent effects in aromatic interactions. Recently, we showed that 3‐ and 3,5‐disubstituted benzoyl leucine diethyl amides with aromatic rings of varying electronic character organized into homochiral dimers in the solid state through a parallel displaced π–π interaction and two hydrogen bonds, but no such homochiral dimerization was observed for the unsubstituted case. This phenomenon supports the hypothesis that substituents stabilize π–π interactions regardless of their electronic character. To further investigate the origin of substituent effects for π–π interactions, we synthesized and crystallized a series of 4‐substituted benzoyl leucine diethyl amides. Surprisingly, only two of the 4‐substituted compounds formed homochiral dimers. A comparison among the 4‐substituted compounds that crystallized as homochiral dimers and their 3‐substituted counterparts revealed that there are differences in regard to the geometry of the aromatic rings with respect to each other, which depend on the electronic nature and location of the substituent. The crystal structures of the homochiral dimers that showed evidence of direct, local interactions between the substituents on the aromatic rings also displayed nonequivalent dihedral angles in the individual monomers. The crystallographic data suggests that such “flexing” may be the result of the individual molecules orienting themselves to maximize the local dipole interactions on the respective aromatic rings. The results presented here can potentially have broad applicability towards the development of molecular recognition systems that involve aromatic interactions.  相似文献

A family of new alkynylplatinum(II) 2,6‐bis(benzimidazol‐2′‐yl)pyridine (bzimpy)‐functionalized supramolecular metallacycles with different shapes and sizes have been successfully prepared by coordination‐driven self‐assembly. The obtained metallacycles showed switchable emission and a strong tendency to form intermolecular Pt???Pt and π–π stacking interactions in solution that were not displayed by their individual precursors. Further investigation revealed that the existence of the metallacyclic scaffold at the core could facilitate the formation of intermolecular Pt???Pt and π–π stacking interactions of peripheral alkynylplatinum(II) bzimpy units. Moreover, the shapes and sizes of the metallacyclic scaffold have a significant influence on the hierarchical self‐assembly behavior. Among the three metallacycles, hexagonal metallacycle A , with a relatively small size, could spontaneously self‐assemble into an aromatic guest stimuli‐responsive metallogel at room temperature without a heating–cooling process.  相似文献

The synthesis and structural characterization of 2‐(furan‐2‐yl)‐1‐(furan‐2‐ylmethyl)‐1H‐benzimidazole [C16H12N2O2, (I)], 2‐(furan‐2‐yl)‐1‐(furan‐2‐ylmethyl)‐1H‐benzimidazol‐3‐ium chloride monohydrate [C16H13N2O2+·Cl·H2O, (II)] and the hydrobromide salt 5,6‐dimethyl‐2‐(furan‐2‐yl)‐1‐(furan‐2‐ylmethyl)‐1H‐benzimidazol‐3‐ium bromide [C18H17N2O2+·Br, (III)] are described. Benzimidazole (I) displays two sets of aromatic interactions, each of which involves pairs of molecules in a head‐to‐tail arrangement. The first, denoted set (Ia), exhibits both intermolecular C—H...π interactions between the 2‐(furan‐2‐yl) (abbreviated as Fn) and 1‐(furan‐2‐ylmethyl) (abbreviated as MeFn) substituents, and π–π interactions involving the Fn substituents between inversion‐center‐related molecules. The second, denoted set (Ib), involves π–π interactions involving both the benzene ring (Bz) and the imidazole ring (Im) of benzimidazole. Hydrated salt (II) exhibits N—H...OH2...Cl hydrogen bonding that results in chains of molecules parallel to the a axis. There is also a head‐to‐head aromatic stacking of the protonated benzimidazole cations in which the Bz and Im rings of one molecule interact with the Im and Fn rings of adjacent molecules in the chain. Salt (III) displays N—H...Br hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions involving inversion‐center‐related benzimidazole rings in a head‐to‐tail arrangement. In all of the π–π interactions observed, the interacting moieties are shifted with respect to each other along the major molecular axis. Basis set superposition energy‐corrected (counterpoise method) interaction energies were calculated for each interaction [DFT, M06‐2X/6‐31+G(d)] employing atomic coordinates obtained in the crystallographic analyses for heavy atoms and optimized H‐atom coordinates. The calculated interaction energies are −43.0, −39.8, −48.5, and −55.0 kJ mol−1 for (Ia), (Ib), (II), and (III), respectively. For (Ia), the analysis was used to partition the interaction energies into the C—H...π and π–π components, which are 9.4 and 24.1 kJ mol−1, respectively. Energy‐minimized structures were used to determine the optimal interplanar spacing, the slip distance along the major molecular axis, and the slip distance along the minor molecular axis for 2‐(furan‐2‐yl)‐1H‐benzimidazole.  相似文献

Molecular packing analyses were carried out on 15 crystal data sets of chloro‐substituted Schiff bases, including that of the title compound, C15H15ClN2. C—H⋯π and π–π interactions play a major role in the molecular self‐assembly in the crystal. The former interactions favor molecules assembling into a screw, with a non‐centrosymmetric crystal structure. When the molecular dipole is small, π–π interactions favor a parallel, but not usually antiparallel, mode of packing. Weak C—H⋯X hydrogen bonds (X = Cl or Br) and XX interactions seem to be a secondary driving force in packing. The title molecule takes the trans form and the two benzene rings are twisted around the central linkage in opposite directions. In the crystal structure, molecules interact through C—H⋯π and π–π interactions, forming a `dimer' and further forming double chains along [001]. The double chains are extended along [10] through C—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming double layers in (010). In the third direction, there are only ordinary, weaker, van der Waals interactions, which explains the crystal habit (i.e. thin plate).  相似文献

A series of molecular metalla[2]catenanes featuring Cp*Ir vertices have been prepared by the template‐free, coordination‐driven self‐assembly of dinuclear iridium acceptors and 1,5‐bis[2‐(4‐pyridyl)ethynyl]anthracene donors. The metalla[2]catenanes were formed by using a strategically selected linker type that is capable of participating in sandwich‐type π–π stacking interactions. In the solid state, the [2]catenanes adopt two different configurations depending on the halogen atoms at the dinuclear metal complex bridge. Altering the solvent or the concentration, as well as the addition of guest molecules, enabled controlled transformations between metalla[2]catenanes and tetranuclear metallarectangles.  相似文献

Reactions between the U‐shaped binuclear CuI complex A that bears short metal–metal distances and the cyano‐capped monotopic π‐conjugated ligands 1 – 5 that carry gradually bulkier polyaromatic terminal fragments lead to the formation of π‐stacked supramolecular assemblies 6 – 10 , respectively, in yields of 50–80 %. These derivatives have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopic analysis and X‐ray diffraction studies. Their solid‐state structures show the selective formation of U‐shaped supramolecular assemblies in which two monotopic π‐conjugated systems present large ( 6 , 7 , and 9 ) or medium ( 8 and 10 ) intramolecular π overlap, thus revealing π–π interactions. These assemblies self‐organize into head‐to‐tail π‐stacked dimers that in turn self‐assemble to afford infinite columnar π stacks. The nature, extent, and complexity of the intermolecular contacts within the head‐to‐tail π‐stacked dimer depend on the nature of the terminal polyaromatic fragment carried by the cyano‐capped monotopic ligand, but it does not alter the result of the self‐assembling process. These results demonstrate that the dinuclear molecular clip A that bears short metal–metal distances allows selective supramolecular assembly processes driven by the formation of intra‐ and intermolecular short π–π interactions in the resulting self‐assembled structures; thus, demonstrating that their shape is not only dictated by the symmetry of the building blocks. This approach opens perspectives toward the formation of extended π‐stacked columns based on dissymmetrical and functional π‐conjugated systems.  相似文献

The structural and electronic consequences of π–π and C?H/π interactions in two alkoxy‐substituted 1,8‐bis‐ ((propyloxyphenyl)ethynyl)naphthalenes are explored by using X‐ray crystallography and electronic structure computations. The crystal structure of analogue 4 , bearing an alkoxy side chain in the 4‐position of each of the phenyl rings, adopts a π‐stacked geometry, whereas analogue 8 , bearing alkoxy groups at both the 2‐ and the 5‐positions of each ring, has a geometry in which the rings are splayed away from a π‐stacked arrangement. Symmetry‐adapted perturbation theory analysis was performed on the two analogues to evaluate the interactions between the phenylethynyl arms in each molecule in terms of electrostatic, steric, polarization, and London dispersion components. The computations support the expectation that the π‐stacked geometry of the alkoxyphenyl units in 4 is simply a consequence of maximizing π–π interactions. However, the splayed geometry of 8 results from a more subtle competition between different noncovalent interactions: this geometry provides a favorable anti‐alignment of C?O bond dipoles, and two C?H/π interactions in which hydrogen atoms of the alkyl side chains interact favorably with the π electrons of the other phenyl ring. These favorable interactions overcome competing π–π interactions to give rise to a geometry in which the phenylethynyl substituents are in an offset, unstacked arrangement.  相似文献

Firefly oxyluciferin is a photoacid that presents a pH‐sensitive fluorescence, which results from pH‐dependent changes on the conformation of self‐aggregated π–π stacking complexes. Luciferin is a derivative of oxyluciferin with very similar fluorescence and photoacidic properties. This similarity indicates that luciferin is also expected to be able to form π–π stacking complexes, but no pH‐sensitive fluorescence is found for this compound. Here, a theoretical approach is used to rationalize this finding. We have found that luciferin only forms π–π stacking complexes in the ground state at acidic pH. At basic pH and in the excited state, luciferin is present as a dianion. This species is not able to self‐aggregate, owing to repulsive electrostatic interactions. Thus, this emissive species is not subject to π–π stacking interactions; this explains its pH‐insensitive fluorescence.  相似文献

A new pyrene‐tagged gold(I) complex has been synthesised and tested as a homogeneous catalyst. First, a simple 1,6‐enyne was chosen as a model substrate for cyclisation by using different solvents to optimise the reaction conditions. The non‐covalent immobilisation of our pyrene‐tagged gold complex onto multi‐walled carbon nanotubes through π–π stacking interactions was then explored to obtain a supported homogeneous catalyst. The heterogenised catalyst and its homogeneous counterpart exhibited similar activity in a range of enyne cyclisation reactions. Bearing in mind that π–π interactions are affected by temperature and solvent polarity, the reuse and robustness of the supported homogeneous catalyst was tested to explore the scope and limitations of the recyclability of this catalyst. Under the optimised conditions, recyclability was observed by using the concept of the boomerang effect.  相似文献

The addition of the π–π stacking agent octafluorotoluene (OFT) resulted in up to a 50% reduction in monomer conversion after 24 h for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) reactions of styrene, when performed at 85 °C with 1 eq of OFT compared with styrene in the initial reaction mixture. Monitoring the progress showed that the ATRP of styrene in the presence of either OFT or hexafluorobenzene (HFB) maintained a linear relationship between monomer conversion and number average molecular weights, while showing a first order rate dependence on monomer. The effects of π–π stacking on the KATRP could be overcome by using adjusting the redox activity of the metal‐ligand complex while maintaining reaction temperatures of 85 °C. Further experiments showed that nitroxide‐mediated polymerizations of St were affected to an identical extent by the presence of the π–π stacking agent HFB. The ATRP of pentafluorostyrene (PFSt) in the presence of π–π stackers benzene or toluene showed an increase in monomer conversion compared with reactions in their absence, consistent with Mn π–π stacking increasing the stability of the active radical. Interactions between the π–π stacking agents OFT and HFB and the aromatic groups in the ATRP of St or PFSt were verified by 1H NMR analysis. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Weak C? H???X hydrogen bonds are important stabilizing forces in crystal engineering and anion recognition in solution. In contrast, their quantitative influence on the stabilization of supramolecular polymers or gels has thus far remained unexplored. Herein, we report an oligophenyleneethynylene (OPE)‐based amphiphilic PtII complex that forms supramolecular polymeric structures in aqueous and polar media driven by π–π and different weak C‐H???X (X=Cl, O) interactions involving chlorine atoms attached to the PtII centers as well as oxygen atoms and polarized methylene groups belonging to the peripheral glycol chains. A collection of experimental techniques (UV/Vis, 1D and 2D NMR, DLS, AFM, SEM, and X‐Ray diffraction) demonstrate that the interplay between different weak noncovalent interactions leads to the cooperative formation of self‐assembled structures of high aspect ratio and gels in which the molecular arrangement is maintained in the crystalline state.  相似文献

The peptide N‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐L‐valyl‐L‐tyrosine methyl ester or NCbz‐Val‐Tyr‐OMe (where NCbz is N‐benzyloxycarbonyl and OMe indicates the methyl ester), C23H28N2O6, has an extended backbone conformation. The aromatic rings of the Tyr residue and the NCbz group are involved in various attractive intra‐ and intermolecular aromatic π–π interactions which stabilize the conformation and packing in the crystal structure, in addition to N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds. The aromatic π–π interactions include parallel‐displaced, perpendicular T‐shaped, perpendicular L‐shaped and inclined orientations.  相似文献

The single crystal X‐ray analysis data of the new hepta‐coordinate cadmium(II) complex of N,N‐dimethyl‐N‐(4‐pyridyl)amine (DMPA), [Cd(DMPA)3(NO2)2]·0.5H2O, shows that the coordination environment around the CdII is pentagonal bipyramidal. Furthermore, self‐assembly of this complex as molecular squares that interlink via π–π stacking interactions is observed. This network contains voids that are filled by water molecules.  相似文献

To investigate the influence of the non‐covalent interactions, such as hydrogen‐bonding, π–π packing and d10–d10 interactions in the supramolecular motifs, three cyanido‐bridged heterobimetallic discrete complexes {Mn(bipy)2(H2O)[Ag(CN)2]}[Ag(CN)2] ( 1 ), {Mn(phen)2(H2O)[Au(CN)2]}2[Au(CN)2]2 · 4H2O ( 2 ), and {Cd(bipy)2(H2O)[Au(CN)2]}[Au(CN)2] ( 3 ) (bipy = 2,2′‐bipyridine, and phen = 1,10‐phenanthroline), which are based on dicyanidometallate(I) groups with 1:2 stoichiometry of metal ions and 2,2′‐bipyridyl‐like co‐ligands were synthesized and structurally characterized. In compound 1 , hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions governed the supramolecular contacts. In compound 2 , the incorporation of aurophilic, hydrogen bonding and π–π interactions result in a 3D supramolecular network. In compound 3 , hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions result in a 2D supramolecular layer. In the three complexes, hydrogen‐bonding, π–π packing and/or d10–d10 interactions can play important roles in increasing the dimensionality of supramolecular assemblies.  相似文献

Triphenylamine‐functionalized boron 2‐(2′‐pyridyl)imidazole complex bearing no alkyl chains or H‐bond unit was found to be able to gelate a series of solvents, and the balanced intermolecular π–π interactions play an important role in its supramolecular self‐assembly. The gelator molecule is piezochromic, and the dried gel responded to pressure more sensitively than regular crystalline powder.  相似文献

The structure of 4‐methoxy‐1‐naphthol, C11H10O2, (I), contains an intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond which links the molecules into a simple C(2) chain running parallel to the shortest crystallographic b axis. This chain is reinforced by intermolecular π–π stacking interactions. Comparisons are drawn between the crystal structure of (I) and those of several of its simple analogues, including 1‐naphthol and some monosubstituted derivatives, and that of its isomer 7‐methoxy‐2‐naphthol. This comparison shows a close similarity in the packing of the molecules of its simple analogues that form π‐stacks along the shortest crystallographic axes. A substantial spatial overlap is observed between adjacent molecules in such stacks. In this group of monosubstituted naphthols, the overlap depends mainly on the position of the substituents carried by the naphthalene moiety, and the extent of the overlap depends on the substituent type. By contrast with (I), in the crystal structure of the isomeric 7‐methoxy‐2‐naphthol there are no O—H...O hydrogen bonds or π–π stacking interactions, and sheets are formed by O—H...π and C—H...π interactions.  相似文献

Theoretical investigation on local electronic structure and stability of the π–π stacking interaction of pyrazinamide (PZA) with armchair (5,5) and zigzag (9,0) single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is performed using density functional theory (DFT). PZA is physisorbed onto nanotube sidewall through interaction of π orbitals of PZA and SWCNT and the enhanced structural stability of PZA/SWCNT systems is due to weak side‐on rather than the head‐on π‐interactions. The physisorption of PZA onto SWCNT sidewall is thermodynamically favored; as a consequence, it modulates the electronic properties of pristine nanotube in the vicinity of Fermi region and π–π stacked interactions is stronger in (9,0) SWCNT compared to (5,5) SWCNT. The density of states (DOS) analysis show that PZA contributes toward the enhancement of electronic states. Projected DOS and frontier orbital analysis in the vicinity of Fermi level region suggest the electronic states to be contributed from SWCNT rather than PZA. In addition, hybrid DFT calculation which includes the dispersion correction is employed to explain the non‐covalent π–π stacking interaction between PZA and SWCNT. The local density approximation and GGA results are compared with DFT‐D to explain near about accurately the weak nonbonded van der Waals interactions between PZA and SWCNTs. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The reaction of 2, 2′‐bipyridine‐6, 6′‐dicarboxylic acid (H2bpdc) with zinc nitrate and different rare earth chlorides generates two novel three‐dimensional supramolecules Zn(6‐bpc)2 · 2H2O ( 1 ) and Ce(bpdc)2 · H2O ( 2 ) (6‐Hbpc = 2, 2′‐bipyridine‐6‐carboxylic acid). The left‐and right‐handed helical chains give rise to a 3D supramolecular framework through hydrogen‐bond and weak π–π interactions in complex 1 . Interestingly, the decarboxylation occurred and the bpdc ligand was transformed into 6‐bpc species under the hydrothermal reaction in the presence of NdIII ions, while the decarboxylation did not occur when CeIII ions were used. In the structure of 2 , one central Ce(IV) atom coordinates to two bpdc ligands, resulting in a discrete molecule. These discrete units are further extended into a 3D supramolecular structure through intermolecular hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions.  相似文献
