In this paper we construct small-amplitude periodic capillary-gravity water waves with a piecewise constant vorticity distribution. They describe water waves traveling on superposed linearly sheared currents that have different vorticities. This is achieved by associating to the height function formulation of the water wave problem a diffraction problem where we impose suitable transmission conditions on each line where the vorticity function has a jump. The solutions of the diffraction problem, found by using local bifurcation theory, are the desired solutions of the hydrodynamical problem.  相似文献

The Riemann problem for a two-dimensional nonstrictly hyperbolic system of conservation laws is considered. Without the restriction that each jump of the initial data projects one planar elementary wave, ten topologically distinct solutions are obtained by applying the method of generalized characteristic analysis. Some of these solutions involve the nonclassical waves, i.e., the delta shock wave and the delta contact discontinuity, for which we explicitly give the expressions of their strengths, locations and propagation speeds. Moreover, we demonstrate that the nature of our solutions is identical with that of solutions to the corresponding one-dimensional Cauchy problem, which provides a verification that our construction produces the correct unique global solutions.  相似文献

In this paper we study the global existence of BV solution to two-dimensional piston problem in fluid dynamics. Different from previous results on related problems we remove the restriction on the strength of the leading shock and require the velocity of the piston is rather fast or the density is quite small instead. The main tool in our proof is Glimm Scheme with some improvement. To define the Glimm functional we derive more precise estimates for the interaction of elementary waves, particularly in the region near the leading shock. We obtain some existence results for traveling wave fronts and slowly oscillatory spatially periodic traveling waves of planar lattice differential systems with delay. Our approach is via Schauder's fixed-point theorem for the existence of traveling wave fronts and via S1-degree and equivarant bifurcation theory for the existence of periodic traveling waves. As examples, the obtained abstract results will be applied to a model arising from neural networks and explicit conditions for traveling wave fronts and global continuation of periodic waves will be obtained.  相似文献

Persistence and propagation of species are fundamental questions in spatial ecology. This paper focuses on the impact of Allee effect on the persistence and propagation of a population with birth pulse. We investigate the threshold dynamics of an impulsive reaction–diffusion model and provide the existence of bistable traveling waves connecting two stable equilibria. To prove the existence of bistable waves, we extend the method of monotone semiflows to impulsive reaction–diffusion systems. We use the methods of upper and lower solutions and the convergence theorem for monotone semiflows to prove the global stability of traveling waves and their uniqueness up to translation. Then we enhance the stability of bistable traveling waves to global exponential stability. Numerical simulations illustrate our theoretical results.  相似文献

The dynamics of infinite-dimensional lattice systems is studied. A necessary and sufficient condition for asymptotic compactness of lattice dynamical systems is introduced. It is shown that a lattice system has a global attractor if and only if it has a bounded absorbing set and is asymptotically null. As an application, it is proved that the lattice reaction-diffusion equation has a global attractor in a weighted l2 space, which is compact as well as contains traveling waves. The upper semicontinuity of global attractors is also obtained when the lattice reaction-diffusion equation is approached by finite-dimensional systems.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of bistable traveling waves for a competitive–cooperative reaction and diffusion system with nonlocal time delays. The existence of bistable waves is established by appealing to the theory of monotone semiflows and the finite-delay approximations. Then the global stability of such traveling waves is obtained via a squeezing technique and a dynamical systems approach.  相似文献

Global solutions of the nonlinear magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations with general large initial data are investigated. First the existence and uniqueness of global solutions are established with large initial data in H 1. It is shown that neither shock waves nor vacuum and concentration are developed in a finite time, although there is a complex interaction between the hydrodynamic and magnetodynamic effects. Then the continuous dependence of solutions upon the initial data is proved. The equivalence between the well-posedness problems of the system in Euler and Lagrangian coordinates is also showed.  相似文献

The Riemann problem for two-dimensional isentropic Euler equations is considered. The initial data are three constants in three fan domains forming different angles. Under the assumption that only a rarefaction wave, shock wave or contact discontinuity connects two neighboring constant initial states, it is proved that the cases involving three shock or rarefaction waves are impossible. For the cases involving one rarefaction (shock) wave and two shock (rarefaction) waves, only the combinations when the three elementary waves have the same sign are possible (impossible).  相似文献

We are concerned with global entropy solutions to the relativistic Euler equations for a class of large initial data which involve the interaction of shock waves and rarefaction waves. We first carefully analyze the global behavior of the shock curves, the rarefaction wave curves, and their corresponding inverse curves in the phase plane. The theory of asymptotic speeds of spread and monotone traveling waves for monotone semiflows is applied to a multi-type SIS epidemic model to obtain the spreading speed c, and the nonexistence of traveling waves with wave speed c<c. Then the method of upper and lower solutions is used to establish the existence of monotone traveling waves connecting the disease-free and endemic equilibria for c?c. This shows that the spreading speed coincides with the minimum wave speed for monotone traveling waves. We also give an affirmative answer to an open problem presented by Rass and Radcliffe [L. Rass, J. Radcliffe, Spatial Deterministic Epidemics, Math. Surveys Monogr. 102, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2003].  相似文献

In this paper, we solve the Riemann problem with the initial data containing Dirac delta functions for a class of coupled hyperbolic systems of conservation laws. Under suitably generalized Rankine–Hugoniot relation and entropy condition, the existence and uniqueness of solutions involving delta shock waves are proved. A Lie group of transformations method is used to establish self-similar solutions to the problem of shock wave propagation through a relaxing gas and its interaction with the weak discontinuity wave. The forms of the equilibrium value of the vibrational energy and the relaxation time, varying with the density and pressure are determined for which the system admits self-similar solutions. A particular solution to the problem has been found out and used to study the effects of specific heat ratio and ambient density exponent on the flow parameters. The coefficients of amplitudes of reflected and transmitted waves after the interaction are determined.  相似文献

An attached oblique shock wave is generated when a sharp solid projectile flies supersonically in the air. We study the linear stability of oblique shock waves in steady supersonic flow under three dimensional perturbation in the incoming flow. Euler system of equations for isentropic gas model is used. The linear stability is established for shock front with supersonic downstream flow, in addition to the usual entropy condition.  相似文献

We study the Cauchy problems for the isentropic 2-d Euler system with discontinuous initial data along a smooth curve. All three singularities are present in the solution: shock wave, rarefaction wave and contact discontinuity. We show that the usual restrictive high order compatibility conditions for the initial data are automatically satisfied. The local existence of piecewise smooth solution containing all three waves is established.  相似文献

In this paper we study the Cauchy problem for 1-D Euler–Poisson system, which represents a physically relevant hydrodynamic model but also a challenging case for a bipolar semiconductor device by considering two different pressure functions and a non-flat doping profile. Different from the previous studies (Gasser et al., 2003 [7], Huang et al., 2011 [12], Huang et al., 2012 [13]) for the case with two identical pressure functions and zero doping profile, we realize that the asymptotic profiles of this more physical model are their corresponding stationary waves (steady-state solutions) rather than the diffusion waves. Furthermore, we prove that, when the flow is fully subsonic, by means of a technical energy method with some new development, the smooth solutions of the system are unique, exist globally and time-algebraically converge to the corresponding stationary solutions. The optimal algebraic convergence rates are obtained.  相似文献

An activator-inhibitor reaction system with global coupling was introduced in [1]. The authors showed that global coupling suppresses the breathing motion and enhances the propagation of the localized solution. The collision between two traveling waves for a sufficiently strong global coupling is discussed in [2]. If the width of layers is infinitesimally thin, the equation of motion for a pair of the interfaces is derived. We shall study the dynamics of interfaces in the free boundary problem with global coupling and with a strong global coupling.  相似文献

In order to investigate bounded traveling waves of the Burgers-Huxley equation, bifurcations of codimension 1 and 2 are discussed for its traveling wave system. By reduction to center manifolds and normal forms we give conditions for the appearance of homoclinic solutions, heteroclinic solutions and periodic solutions, which correspondingly give conditions of existence for solitary waves, kink waves and periodic waves, three basic types of bounded traveling waves. Furthermore, their evolutions are discussed to investigate the existence of other types of bounded traveling waves, such as the oscillatory traveling waves corresponding to connections between an equilibrium and a periodic orbit and the oscillatory kink waves corresponding to connections of saddle-focus.  相似文献

We investigate the existence of a global classical solution to the generalized Goursat problem. Under some degenerate assumptions of boundary conditions, we prove that the solution approaches a combination of Lipschitz continuous and a piecewise C1 traveling wave solution.  相似文献
