The aim of this article is to study abundant semigroups with generalized adequate transversals. We obtain some properties of such semigroups and give, in particular, a construction of the class of abundant semigroups with quasi-ideal generalized adequate transversals. The classical local theory of integrable 2-plane fields in 3-space leads to interesting qualitative questions about the global properties of solutions surface (i.e., leaves of a foliation) on 3-manifolds. It is now known that foliations admitting a closed leaf of suitably high genus abound on all closed or orientable 3-manifolds that are not rational homology spheres (S. Goodman, Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. U.S.A.71 (1974), 4414–4415), and this leads to natural questions about the “positions” of such leaves relative to the rest of the foliation. One such question, suggested by Goodman's theorem on closed transversals (S. Goodman, ibid.), is considered here.  相似文献

We consider an integrable Hamiltonian system with n degrees of freedom whose first integrals are invariant under the symplectic action of a compact Lie group G. We prove that the singular Lagrangian foliation associated to this Hamiltonian system is symplectically equivalent, in a G-equivariant way, to the linearized foliation in a neighborhood of a compact singular nondegenerate orbit. We also show that the nondegeneracy condition is not equivalent to the nonresonance condition for smooth systems.  相似文献

We study the behavior of the Yang-Mills flow for unitary connections on compact and non-compact oriented surfaces with varying metrics. The flow can be used to define a one dimensional foliation on the space of representations of a once punctured surface. This foliation universalizes over Teichmüller space and is equivariant with respect to the action of the mapping class group. It is shown how to extend the foliation as a singular foliation over the augmented boundary of Teichmüller space obtained by adding nodal Riemann surfaces. It is well known that the subclass of inverse semigroups and the subclass of completely regular semigroups of the class of regular semigroups form the so called e-varieties of semigroups. However, the class of regular semigroups with inverse transversals does not belong to this variety. We now call this class of semigroups the ist-variety of semigroups, and denote it by IST. In this paper, we consider the class of orthodox semigroups with inverse transversals, which is a special ist-variety and is denoted by OIST. Some previous results given by Tang and Wang on this topic are extended. In particular, the structure of free bands with inverse transversals is investigated. Results of McAlister, McFadden, Blyth and Saito on semigroups with inverse transversals are hence generalized and enriched.  相似文献

In this paper we construct non-singular, locally-closed, algebraic varieties which are sets of foliations on ??2 of degree 2 with a certain degenerate singularity. We obtain the dimension and closure of these varieties. To do that we construct a stratification (based on GIT, see [7]) of the space of foliations with respect to the action by change of coordinates. We prove that the set of unstable foliations has two irreducible components. We have the following corollary: a foliation of degree 2 defined by a pencil of conics is unstable if and only if the pencil is unstable. Finallywe give another proof of the fact that there are only 4 foliations of degree 2 with a unique singular point (see [5]).  相似文献

In this paper we introduce the notion of strongly connected polygons in the line graph of a bipartite graph. We use this notion to give a necessary and sufficient condition for a matrix Y to be fully irreducible without the need to construct a transversal of Y. In addition, we show that the notion of strongly connected polygons forms the basis of a general theory that may be used for finding all the cycles in the directed graph of a fully irreducible matrix and for constructing all the nonzero transversals of a fully irreducible matrix.  相似文献

If M is an atoroidal 3-manifold with a taut foliation, Thurston showed that π1(M) acts on a circle. Here, we show that some other classes of essential laminations also give rise to actions on circles. In particular, we show this for tight essential laminations with solid torus guts. We also show that pseudo-Anosov flows induce actions on circles. In all cases, these actions can be made into faithful ones, so π1(M) is isomorphic to a subgroup of Homeo(S 1). In addition, we show that the fundamental group of the Weeks manifold has no faithful action on S 1. As a corollary, the Weeks manifold does not admit a tight essential lamination with solid torus guts, a pseudo-Anosov flow, or a taut foliation. Finally, we give a proof of Thurston’s universal circle theorem for taut foliations based on a new, purely topological, proof of the Leaf Pocket Theorem. A singular foliation on a complete Riemannian manifold is said to be Riemannian if each geodesic that is perpendicular at one point to a leaf remains perpendicular to every leaf it meets. The singular foliation is said to admit sections if each regular point is contained in a totally geodesic complete immersed submanifold that meets every leaf orthogonally and whose dimension is the codimension of the regular leaves. A typical example of such a singular foliation is the partition by orbits of a polar action, e.g. the orbits of the adjoint action of a compact Lie group on itself.We prove that a singular Riemannian foliation with compact leaves that admits sections on a simply connected space has no exceptional leaves, i.e., each regular leaf has trivial normal holonomy. We also prove that there exists a convex fundamental domain in each section of the foliation and in particular that the space of leaves is a convex Coxeter orbifold.  相似文献

We provide a new and much simpler structure for quasi-ideal adequate transversals of abundant semigroups in terms of spined products, which is similar in nature to that given by Saito in Proc. 8th Symposium on Semigroups, pp. 22–25 (1985) for weakly multiplicative inverse transversals of regular semigroups. As a consequence we deduce a similar result for multiplicative transversals of abundant semigroups and also consider the case when the semigroups are in fact regular and provide some new structure theorems for inverse transversals.  相似文献

In this paper, we study isoparametric hypersurfaces in Finsler space forms by investigating focal points, tubes and parallel hypersurfaces of submanifolds. We prove that the focal submanifolds of isoparametric hypersurfaces are anisotropic-minimal and obtain a general Cartan-type formula in a Finsler space form with vanishing reversible torsion, from which we give some classifications on the number of distinct principal curvatures or their multiplicities.  相似文献

Recent combinatorial algorithms for linear programming can also be applied to certain nonlinear problems. We call these Generalized Linear-Programming, or GLP, problems. We connect this class to a collection of results from combinatorial geometry called Helly-type theorems. We show that there is a Helly-type theorem about the constraint set of every GLP problem. Given a familyH of sets with a Helly-type theorem, we give a paradigm for finding whether the intersection ofH is empty, by formulating the question as a GLP problem. This leads to many applications, including linear expected time algorithms for finding line transversals and mini-max hyperplane fitting. Our applications include GLP problems with the surprising property that the constraints are nonconvex or even disconnected.  相似文献

We construct three (large, reduced) incidence algebras whose semigroups of multiplicative functions, under convolution, are anti-isomorphic, respectively, to the semigroups of what we call partitional, permutational and exponential formal power series without constant term, in infinitely many variables x = (x1, x2,…), under plethysm. We compute the Möbius function in each case. These three incidence algebras are the linear duals of incidence bialgebras arising, respectively, from the classes of transversals of partitions (with an order that we define), partitions compatible with permutations (with the usual refinement order), and linear transversals of linear partitions (with the order induced by that on transversals). We define notions of morphisms between partitions, permutations and linear partitions, respectively, whose kernels are defined to be, in each case, transversals, compatible partitions and linear transversals. We introduce, in each case, a pair of sequences of polynomials in x of binomial type, counting morphisms and monomorphisms, and obtain expressions for their connection constants, by summation and Möbius inversion over the corresponding posets of kernels.  相似文献
