An unstructured model of a bioreactor with cell recycle and substrate inhibition kinetics is used to investigate the bifurcation and stability characteristics of this unit. The singularity theory used for this investigation allows a global analysis of steady-states multiplicity and the different bifurcation mechanisms occurring in the system including hysteresis and pitchfork. Analytical criteria are also derived for the safe operation of the reactor and to prevent wash-out conditions. The investigation of the dynamic bifurcation, on the other hand, shows that the model cannot exhibit periodic attractors with any growth kinetics model. The inability of this widely used model to exhibit periodicity despite the experimental results that support the existence of periodic behavior in many bioreactors suggests that new approaches are to be taken for the modeling.  相似文献

We study the behavior of dynamic processes in a mathematical predator-prey model and show that the dynamical system may have a periodic solution whose period coincides with the delay. By the bifurcation method for stability analysis of periodic solutions, we establish that this periodic solution is unstable.  相似文献

In this study, we investigate the global dynamics of non-autonomous and autonomous systems based on the Leslie–Gower type model using the Beddington–DeAngelis functional response (BDFR) with time-independent and time-dependent model parameters. Unpredictable disturbances are introduced in the forms of feedback control variables. BDFR explains the feeding rate of the predator as functions of both the predator and prey densities. The global stability of the unique positive equilibrium solution of the autonomous model is determined by defining an appropriate Lyapunov function. The condition obtained for the global stability of the interior equilibrium ensures that the global stability is free from control variables, which is also a significant issue in the ecological balance control procedure. The autonomous system exhibits complex dynamics via bifurcation scenarios, such as period doubling bifurcation. We prove the existence of a globally stable almost periodic solution of the associated non-autonomous model. The different coefficients of the system are taken as almost periodic functions by generalizing periodic assumptions. The permanence of the non-autonomous system is established by defining upper and lower averages of a function. Our results also explain how the important hypothesis in ecology known as the “intermediate disturbance hypothesis” applies in predator–prey interactions. We show that moderate feedback intensity can make both the ordinary differential equation system and partial differential equation system more robust. The results obtained provide new insights into the protection of populations, where moderate feedback intensity can promote the coexistence of species and adjusting the intensity of the feedback in appropriate regions can control the population biomass while maintaining the stability of the system. Finally, the results obtained from extensive numerical simulations support the analytical results as well as the usefulness of the present study in terms of ecological balance and bio-control problems in agro-ecosystems.  相似文献

The ratio-dependent predator–prey model exhibits rich dynamics due to the singularity of the origin. Harvesting in a ratio-dependent predator–prey model is relatively an important research project from both ecological and mathematical points of view. In this paper, we study the temporal, spatial and spatiotemporal dynamics of a ratio-dependent predator–prey diffusive model where the predator population harvest at catch-per-unit-effort hypothesis. For the spatially homogeneous model, we derive conditions for determining the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solution by the center manifold and the normal form theory. For the reaction–diffusion model, firstly it is shown that Turing (diffusion-driven) instability occurs, which induces spatial inhomogeneous patterns. Then it is demonstrated that the model exhibit Hopf bifurcation which produces temporal inhomogeneous patterns. Finally, the existence and non-existence of positive non-constant steady-state solutions are established. Moreover, numerical simulations are performed to visualize the complex dynamic behavior.  相似文献

Chaotic dynamics have been observed in a wide range of population models. In this study, the complex dynamics in a discrete-time ecological model of parasitoid-host-parasitoid are presented. The model shows that the superiority coefficient not only stabilizes the dynamics, but may strongly destabilize them as well. Many forms of complex dynamics were observed, including pitchfork bifurcation with quasi-periodicity, period-doubling cascade, chaotic crisis, chaotic bands with narrow or wide periodic window, intermittent chaos, and supertransient behavior. Furthermore, computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent demonstrated the chaotic dynamic behavior of the model.  相似文献

The present study investigates a prey predator type model for conservation of ecological resources through taxation with nonlinear harvesting. The model uses the harvesting function as proposed by Agnew (1979) [1] which accounts for the handling time of the catch and also the competition between standard vessels being utilized for harvesting of resources. In this paper we consider a three dimensional dynamic effort prey–predator model with Holling type-II functional response. The conditions for uniform persistence of the model have been derived. The existence and stability of bifurcating periodic solution through Hopf bifurcation have been examined for a particular set of parameter value. Using numerical examples it is shown that the system admits periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic solutions. It is observed that the system exhibits periodic doubling route to chaos with respect to tax. Many forms of complexities such as chaotic bands (including periodic windows, period-doubling bifurcations, period-halving bifurcations and attractor crisis) and chaotic attractors have been observed. Sensitivity analysis is carried out and it is observed that the solutions are highly dependent to the initial conditions. Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle has been used to obtain optimal tax policy to maximize the monetary social benefit as well as conservation of the ecosystem.  相似文献

In this paper, on the basis of the theories and methods of ecology and ordinary differential equation, an ecological model with an impulsive control strategy is established. By using the theories of impulsive equation, small amplitude perturbation skills and comparison technique, we get the condition which guarantees the global asymptotical stability of the lowest-level prey and mid-level predator eradication periodic solution. It is proved that the system is permanent. Further, influences of the impulsive perturbation on the inherent oscillation are studied numerically, which shows rich dynamics, such as period-doubling bifurcation, period-halving bifurcation, chaotic band, narrow or wide periodic window, chaotic crises, etc. Moreover, the computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent demonstrates the chaotic dynamic behavior of the model. At the same time, we investigate the qualitative nature of strange attractor by using Fourier spectra. All these results may be useful for study of the dynamic complexity of ecosystems.  相似文献

This study aims to analyze the dynamic behavior of bevel-geared rotor system supported on a thrust bearing and journal bearings under nonlinear suspension. The dynamic orbits of the system are observed using bifurcation diagrams plotted with both the dimensionless unbalance coefficient and the dimensionless rotational speed ratio as control parameters. The onset of chaotic motion is identified from the phase diagrams, power spectra, Poincaré maps, Lyapunov exponents, and fractal dimensions of the gear-bearing system. The numerical results reveal that the system exhibits a diverse range of periodic, sub-harmonic, and chaotic behaviors. The results presented in this study provide an understanding of the operating conditions under which undesirable dynamic motion takes place in a gear-bearing system and therefore serves as a useful source of reference for engineers in designing and controlling such systems.  相似文献

In this paper, on the basis of the theories and methods of ecology and ordinary differential equation, a food web system with impulsive perturbations and distributed time delay is established. By using the theories of impulsive equation, small amplitude perturbation skills and comparison technique, we get the condition which guarantees the global asymptotical stability of the prey and intermediate predator eradication periodic solution. On this basis, we get that the food web system is permanent if some parameters are satisfied with certain conditions. In order to show that these conditions are effective, the influences of impulsive perturbations on the inherent oscillation and distributed time delay are studied numerically; these show rich dynamics, such as period-halving bifurcation, chaotic band, narrow or wide periodic window, chaotic crises. Moreover, the computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent shows the chaotic dynamic behavior of the model. Meanwhile, we investigate the qualitative nature of strange attractor by using Fourier spectra. All of these results may be useful in the study of the dynamic complexity of ecosystems.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study the dynamics of a delayed business cycle model with general investment function. The model describes the interaction of the gross product and capital stock. Furthermore, the delay represents the time between the decision of investment and implementation. Firstly, we show that the model is well posed by proving the global existence and boundedness of solutions. Secondly, we determine the economic equilibrium of the model. By analyzing the characteristic equation, we investigate the stability of the economic equilibrium and the local existence of Hopf bifurcation. Also, the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are derived by applying the normal form method and center manifold theory. Moreover, the global existence of bifurcating periodic solutions is established by using the global Hopf bifurcation theory. Finally, our theoretical results are illustrated with some numerical simulations.  相似文献

This paper investigates the complex dynamics in a discrete-time model of predator–prey interaction with a Beddington–DeAngelis functional response. Local stability analysis of this model is carried out and many forms of complexities are observed using ecology theories and numerical simulation of the global behavior. Furthermore, the existence of a strange attractor and computation of the largest Lyapunov exponent also demonstrate the chaotic dynamic behavior of the model. The results show that the system exhibits rich complexity features such as stable, periodic and chaotic dynamics.  相似文献

In this paper, Hopf bifurcation for a delayed SIS epidemic model with stage structure and nonlinear incidence rate is investigated. Through theoretical analysis, we show the positive equilibrium stability and the conditions that Hopf bifurcation occurs. Applying the normal form theory and the center manifold argument, we derive the explicit formulas determining the properties of the bifurcating periodic solutions. In addition, we also study the effect of the inhibition effect on the properties of the bifurcating periodic solutions. To illustrate our theoretical analysis, some numerical simulations are also included.  相似文献

In this paper, a nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli beam under a concentrated harmonic excitation with intermediate nonlinear support is investigated. Continuous expression for the kinetic energy, potential energy and dissipation function are constructed. An energy method based on the Lagrange equation combined with the Galerkin truncation is used for discretizing the governing equation. The Multi-dimensional incremental harmonic balance method (MIHBM) is derived, and the comparisons between the numerical results and the approximate analytical solutions based on the MIHBM verify the excellent accuracy of the MIHBM. The steady state dynamic of the beam is investigated by MIHBM. In order to investigate the energy transmission and understand the vibration response of the Euler-Bernoulli beam, the effects of the key parameters on the dynamic behaviors are studied and discussed, individually. The results show that the amplitude-frequency curves exhibits softening nonlinear behavior in the super-harmonic resonance region, and near resonant region the hardening nonlinear behavior is observed depending on the different parameters. Nonlinear dynamic analysis, such as bifurcation, 3-D frequency spectrum, waveform, frequency spectrum, phase diagram and Poincaré map, are also presented in order to study the influences of the key parameters on the vibration behaviors for the beam in a more accurate manner. In addition, the path to chaotic motion is observed to be through a sequence of the periodic motion and quasi-periodic motion.  相似文献

Bifurcations and Stability Boundary of a Power System   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A single-axis flux decay model including an excitation control model proposed in [12,14,16] isstudied. As the bifurcation parameter P_m (input power to the generator) varies, the system exhibits dynamicsemerging from static and dynamic bifurcations which link with system collapse. We show that the equilibriumpoint of the system undergoes three bifurcations:one saddle-node bifurcation and two Hopf bifurcations.Thestate variables dominating system collapse are different for different critical points, and the excitative controlmay play an important role in delaying system from collapsing.Simulations are presented to illustrate thedynamical behavior associated with the power system stability and collapse. Moreover,by computing the localquadratic approximation of the 5-dimensional stable manifold at an order 5 saddle point,an analytical expressionfor the approximate stability boundary is worked out.  相似文献

In this paper, an eco-epidemiological model where prey disease is structured as a susceptible-infected model is investigated. Thresholds that control disease spread and population persistence are obtained. Existence, stability and instability of the system are studied. Hopf bifurcation is shown to occur where a periodic solution bifurcates from the coexistence equilibrium. Simulations show that the system exhibits chaotic phenomena when the transmission rate is varied.  相似文献
