Torsion in Kaluza-Klein theory is considered. It is shown that a part of the components of the torsion tensor can be identified with the components of gauge fields different from the gauge fields of the Kaluza-Klein theory, while the other part can be identified with the field strength tensor of these gauge fields. The gauge fields introduced this way acquire a geometrically induced mass. We found a solution to the six-dimensional Poincaré gauge theory that can be interpreted as the gravitational field and the electric field of an electric monopole in four-dimensional spacetime. We show that we can unify the gravitational and internal gauge interactions in a high dimensional Riemann-Cartan spacetime in the spirit of Kaluza-Klein, if we identify some of the connection coefficients as Yang-Mills potentials and if the dynamics of the spacetime is governed by the Poincaré gauge theory of gravitation whose lagrangian contains curvature and torsion squared.  相似文献

The effective gauge coupling in the higher-dimensional unification is shown to depend crucially on the Kaluza-Klein dilaton field (and thus on the position of spacetime points) whose time-evolution should ultimately be determined by the unified cosmology. The result is model-independent and obtained with the dimensional reduction by isometry. The physical implications of the result are discussed.  相似文献

Properties of the effective gauge couplings renormalized at finite temperature and density in thermal non-abelian gauge field theories are studied within one-loop approximations. Strong and severe vertex dependence is shown to come out both in the temperature and chemical potential dependences. Difficulties appearing in the perturbative calculation of physical quantities, indicated by the above disaster, are discussed. Also discussed is what insight might be gained from the present analysis into the “magnetic” screening of effective charge.  相似文献

Einstein's equations with a cosmological constant in arbitrary dimensions admit solutions with unobservable internal space and flat four-dimensional space. Internal space is non-compact, has finite volume and admits a compact group of symmetries. A general class of solutions is obtained for a homogeneous, spatially isotropic five-dimensional (5D) Kaluza-Klein theory with variable rest mass. These solutions generalize in the algebraic and physical sense the previously found solutions in the literature. The 4D spacetime sections of the solutions reduce to the Minkowski metric, K=0 Robertson-Walker metric with the equation of statep=np (p=pressure,n=constant sound speed,=energy density), and to the Robertson-Walker spacetime with steady-state metric. Some of the solutions, in different limits, show compactification of the fifth dimension. Some extensions of the model are discussed.  相似文献

The branching ratiosR(J→ππρ)≡Γ(J→ππρ)/Γ(J→ππ) for naturalJ P mesons have been evaluated under the assumption that theT(J→ππρ) amplitudes are generated by the gauge principle for ρ-mesons originally proposed by Sakurai in his approach to VMD. The ratios are predicted to increase withJ and are compatible with the present-day data. We discuss renormalization of an O(3) gauge model with the gauge fixing term given by ℒg.f.=-1/ζ|(∂μ-igA 3 μ )W |2-(1/2α)(∂A 3)2. We utilize earlier results on the general theory of renormalization of gauge theories in quadratic gauges to prove multiplicative renormalizability of the theory together with a subtractive renormalization of gauge fixing and ghost terms. The field equations of Kaluza–Klein (KK) theory have been applied in the domain of cosmology. These equations are solved for a flat universe by taking the gravitational and the cosmological constants as a function of time t. We use Taylor’s expansion of cosmological function, Λ(t), up to the first order of the time t. The cosmological parameters are calculated and some cosmological problems are discussed.  相似文献
