Tracer diffusion coefficients of the radioactive isotope Na-22 were measured in glasses of the type (CaO·Al2O3)x(2 SiO2)1−x to study the diffusion of sodium as a function of glass composition, x, temperature and initial water content. The diffusion of Na-22 in glasses diffusion-annealed in dry air can always be well described by a single tracer diffusion coefficient, but sometimes not in samples annealed in common air. It was found that the sodium tracer diffusion coefficient decreases by about six orders of magnitude when the glass composition x changes from 0 to 0.75 at 800 °C. The temperature dependence of the diffusion of sodium seems to decrease as the silica content increases. Variations of the initial water content in some of the glasses investigated did not very significantly influence the rate of the tracer diffusion of sodium.  相似文献

Glasses with the mol% composition 4.9Na2O · 33.3CaO · 17.1Fe2O3 · 44.7B2O3 were melted, rapidly quenched using a twin roller technique, and subsequently tempered in the range from 550 to 620 °C. This led to the crystallization of magnetite with mean crystallite sizes in the 10-20 nm range. Using higher temperatures resulted in a larger quantity of formed crystallites and slightly larger mean crystallite sizes. Larger tempering times did not lead to substantial crystal growth. The time law of Ostwald ripening was not followed. This is explained by an increase in viscosity of the residual glassy phase during nucleation and crystal growth. Here, the smaller iron concentration near the crystals leads to higher viscosities and to the formation of a diffusional barrier around the crystals, which reduces further crystal growth. The crystallization stops, if Tg of the residual glassy phase is equal to the tempering temperature. Magnetite nano crystals with sizes in the 10-20 nm range offer a wide range of applications, such as the preparation of ferrofluids or of materials for medical diagnostics and therapy.  相似文献

The optical properties of Cr3+ ions in lithium metasilicate (Li2O · SiO2) transparent glass-ceramics were investigated. The main crystalline phase precipitated was the lithium metasilicate (Li2O · SiO2) crystal. The percent crystallinity and crystalline size were ranging 65-75% and 20-35 nm, respectively. The color changes drastically to deep pink from emerald green upon crystallization. New and strong absorption bands appeared and the absorption intensity increases by about 10 times that in glass. These new absorption bands are found to be derived from Cr3+ ions in octahedral sites in the lithium metasilicate crystal lattice. Cr3+ ions substitute for three Li+ ions and occupy the distorted octahedral site between single [SiO4]n chains of lithium metasilicate crystal. The ligand field parameters can be estimated: 10Dq = 13 088 cm−1, B = 453 cm−1, Dq/B = 2.89 and C = 2036 cm−1. The near-infrared luminescence centered at 1250 nm was not detected in the deep pink glass-ceramics unlike emerald green glass.  相似文献

The phase separation and crystallization behavior in the system (80 − X)SiO2 · X(Al2O3 + P2O5) · 5B2O3 · 15Na2O (mol%) glasses was investigated. Glasses with X = 20 and 30 phase separated into two phases, one of which is rich in Al2O3-P2O5-SiO2 and forms a continuous phase. Glasses containing a larger amount of Al2O3-P2O5 (X = 40 and 50) readily crystallize and precipitates tridymite type AlPO4 crystals. It is estimated that the phase separation occurs forming continuous Al2O3-P2O5-SiO2 phase at first, and then tridymite type AlPO4 crystals precipitate and grow in this phase. Highly transparent glass-ceramics comparable to glass can be successfully obtained by controlling heat treatment precisely. The crystal size and percent crystallinity of these transparent glass-ceramics are 20-30 nm and about 50%, respectively.  相似文献

Glasses with the basic compositions 10Na2O · 10CaO · xAl2O3 · (80 − x)SiO2 (x=0, 5, 15, 25) and 16Na2O · 10CaO · xAl2O3 · (74 − x)SiO2 (x=0, 5, 10, 15, 20) doped with 0.25-0.5 mol% SnO2 were studied using square-wave-voltammetry at temperatures in the range from 1000 to 1600 °C. The voltammograms exhibit a maximum which increases linearly with increasing temperature. With increasing alumina concentration and decreasing Na2O concentration the peak potentials get more negative. Mössbauer spectra showed two signals attributed to Sn2+ and Sn4+. Increasing alumina concentrations did not affect the isomer shift of Sn2+; however, they led to increasing quadrupole splitting, while in the case of Sn4+ both isomer shift and quadrupole splitting increased. A structural model is proposed which explains the effect of the composition on both the peak potentials and the Mössbauer parameters.  相似文献

Room temperature electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra and temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements have been performed to investigate the effect of iron ions in 41CaO · (52 − x)SiO2 · 4P2O5 · xFe2O3 · 3Na2O (2 ? x ? 10 mol%) glasses. The ESR spectra of the glass exhibited the absorptions centered at g ≈ 2.1 and g ≈ 4.3. The variation of the intensity and linewidth of these absorption lines with composition has been interpreted in terms of variation in the concentration of the Fe2+ and Fe3+ in the glass and the interaction between the iron ions. The magnetic susceptibility data were used to obtain information on the relative concentration and interaction between the iron ions in the glass.  相似文献

Calcium aluminosilicate and calcium fluoro-aluminosilicate glasses have been characterized by 29Si, 27Al and 19F MAS-NMR. The two calcium aluminosilicate glasses examined were based on the composition 2SiO2 · Al2O3 · 2CaO (ART1) and the mineral anorthite 2SiO2 · Al2O3 · CaO (ART2). The observed chemical shifts for 29Si and 27Al agreed with previous studies. The fluorine containing glasses were based on 2SiO2 · Al2O3 · (2−X)CaO · XCaF2. The 29Si chemical shift moved in a negative direction with increase fluorine content indicating a progressive reduction in the average number of non-bridging oxygens, NBO, attached to a silicon. The 27Al spectra indicated the presence of four coordinate aluminium in the glasses with X=0.0-0.75, but aluminium was present in Al(IV), Al(V) and Al(VI) coordination states in the highest fluorine content glass with X=1.0. The 19F spectra indicated the presence of F-Ca(n) in low fluorine content glasses and both F-Ca(n) and Al-F-Ca(n) in high fluorine content glasses. We speculate here that the Al-F-Ca(n) species are oxyfluorides [AlOxFy]n, where x=1-6, y=1-6 and n is the charge on the total complex when aluminium is in Al(IV), Al(V) and Al(VI) coordinate states. The reduction in the average number of NBO per silicon with increasing fluorine content is explained by fluorine converting Ca2+ to F-Ca(n).  相似文献

Glasses with the compositions xNa2O · 10MgO · (90 − x)SiO2, 10Na2O · xMgO · (90 − x)SiO2, 5Na2O · 15MgO · xAl2O3 · (80 − x)SiO2, xNa2O · 10MgO · 10Al2O3 · (80 − x)SiO2, 10Na2O · 10MgO · xAl2O3 · (80 − x)SiO2, 10Na2O · 5MgO · 10Al2O3 · (80 − x)SiO2 were melted and studied using UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy in the wavenumber range from 5000 to 30 000 cm−1. At [Al2O3] > [Na2O], the UV-cut off is strongly shifted to smaller wavenumbers and the NIR peak at around 10 000 cm−1 attributed to Fe2+ in sixfold coordination gets narrower. Furthermore, the intensity of the NIR peak at 5500 cm−1 increases. This is explained by the incorporation of iron in the respective glass structures.  相似文献

Specimens of the glassy system: (70 − x)TeO2 + 15B2O3 + 15P2O5 + xLi2O, where x = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mol% were prepared by the melt-quenching. An ultrasonic pulse-echo technique was employed, at 5 MHz, for measuring: the ultrasonic attenuation, longitudinal and shear wave velocities, elastic moduli, Poisson ratio, Debye temperature and hardness of the present glasses. It is found that the gradual replacement of TeO2 by Li2O in the glass matrix up to 30 mol% leads to decrease the average crosslink density and rigidity of prepared samples which affects the properties, i.e., the hardness, ultrasonic wave velocities and elastic moduli are decreased, while the Poisson ratio and the ultrasonic attenuation are increased. Also, optical absorption spectra were recorded in the range, 200-800 nm for these glasses. The obtained results showed that a gradual shift in the fundamental absorption edge toward longer wavelengths occurred. Values of both of the optical energy gap, Eopt, and width tails, ΔE, are determined. It is observed that Eopt is decreased and ΔE increased with the increase of Li2O in the glass matrix up to 30 mol%. The compositional dependences of the above properties are discussed and correlated to the structure of tested glasses.  相似文献

Sodium tracer diffusion coefficients, DNa*, have been measured in sodium borosilicate glasses of the type (Na2O)0.2[(BO1.5)x(SiO2)1 − x]0.8 as a function of temperature and the composition parameter x. In these glasses, which can alternatively also be described by using the formula Na2O·(2B2O3)x·(4SiO2)1 − x, one network former unit, SiO2, is replaced by another one, BO1.5, while keeping the sodium concentration constant. At constant temperature, the tracer diffusion coefficient of sodium as a function of x has a shallow minimum at about x = 0.7. At temperatures below about 310 °C the temperature dependences of the measured tracer diffusion coefficients are of Arrhenius-type; at higher temperatures one observes an increase in the temperature dependence with increasing temperature. The activation energy derived from sodium tracer diffusion data for temperatures up to about 310 °C increases about linearly with increasing x from about 70 to 80 kJ/mol. The pre-exponential factor as a function of x varies by about one order of magnitude and has a minimum at about x = 0.4. Values derived for the Haven-ratio are smaller than one and show a shallow minimum as a function of x at around x = 0.75. Furthermore, it was investigated whether there is a significant, directly measurable uptake of water during annealing in moist atmospheres and whether water taken up from moist atmospheres can influence the diffusion of sodium.  相似文献

xTiO2-(60 − x)SiO2-40Na2O glasses have proven an interesting linear and non-linear optical properties [M. Abdel-Baki, F. Abdel Wahab, F. El-Diasty, Mater. Chem. Phys. 96 (2006) 201]. The investigated glasses show one order of magnitude enhancement for the second-order index of refraction and third-order optical susceptibility over some TiO2 silicate glasses. In this work, we continue studying these glasses using three different techniques to analyze the glass structures seeking to provide a deep insight for the relation between structure, compositions and the optical characteristics of these glasses. Radial Distribution Function analysis (RDF) combined Raman spectroscopy are used to study these glasses. Positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy and Doppler broadening measurements are carried out to investigate the change in the glass structure as the incorporation of TiO2 concentration into glass. The origin of the non-bridging oxygen (NBO) bonds has been traced to correlate their existence with the measured non-linear optical properties of the investigated glasses.  相似文献

Tellurite 75TeO2-(10 − x)Nb2O5-15ZnO-(x)Er2O3; (x = 0.0-2.5 mol%) glass system with concurrent reduction of Nb2O5 and Er2O3 addition have been prepared by melt-quenching method. Elastic properties together with structural properties of the glasses were investigated by measuring both longitudinal and shear velocities using the pulse-echo-overlap technique at 5 MHz and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, respectively. Shear velocity, shear modulus, Young's modulus and Debye temperature were observed to initially decrease at x = 0.5 mol% but remained constant between x = 1.0 mol% to x = 2.0 mol%, before increasing back with Er2O3 addition at x = 2.5 mol%. The initial drop in shear velocity and related elastic moduli observed at x = 0.5 mol% were suggested to be due to weakening of glass network rigidity as a result of increase in non-bridging oxygen (NBO) ions as a consequence of Nb2O5 reduction. The near constant values of shear velocity, elastic moduli, Debye temperature, hardness and Poisson's ratio between x = 0.5 mol% to x = 2.0 mol% were suggested to be due to competition between bridging oxygen (BO) and NBO ions in the glass network as Er2O3 gradually compensated for Nb2O5. Further addition of Er2O3 (x > 2.0 mol%) seems to further reduce NBO leading to improved rigidity of the glass network causing a large increase of ultrasonic velocity (vL and vS) and related elastic moduli at x = 2.5 mol%. FTIR analysis on NbO6 octahedral, TeO4 trigonal bipyramid (tbp) and TeO3 trigonal pyramid (tp) absorption peaks confirmed the initial formation of NBO ions at x = 0.5 mol% followed by NBO/BO competition at x = 0.5-2.0 mol%. Appearance of ZnO4 tetrahedra and increase in intensity of TeO4 tbp absorption peaks at x = 2.0 mol% and x = 2.5 mol% indicate increase in formation of BO.  相似文献

Glasses of the system: (70−x) TeO2 + 15B2O3 + 15P2O5 + xLi2O, where x = 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mol% were prepared by melt quench technique. Dependencies of their glass transition temperatures (Tg) and infrared (IR) absorption spectra on composition were investigated. It is found that the gradual replacement of oxides, TeO2 by Li2O, decreases the glass transition temperature and increases the fragility of the glasses. Also, IR spectra revealed broad weak and strong absorption bands in the investigated range of wave numbers from 4000 to 400 cm−1. These bands were assigned to their corresponding bond modes of vibration with relation to the glass structure.  相似文献

The structure and properties of glasses in the MI + M2S + (0.1Ga2S3 + 0.9GeS2), M = Li, Na, K and Cs, system were studied using Raman, IR spectroscopy, DSC and density measurements to help better understand the ionic transport in these glasses. The glass forming ranges of these ternary glasses were compared to those of the binary alkali sulfide and germanium sulfide systems. The more extensive glass forming range in the Na2S system was used to examine the more extensive changes of structure and properties of these glasses as a function of Na2S content. As expected, non-bridging sulfurs (NBS) form with the addition of alkali sulfide. Unlike their oxide counterparts, however, the alkali sulfide doped glasses appear to support longer-range super-structural units. For example, evidence that the adamantine-like structure exists in the K2S and Cs2S modified glasses is found in the Raman spectra of the glasses. The structural role of the alkali iodide addition was also explored since the addition of alkali iodide helps to improve the conductivity. For most of these glasses, as observed in many other oxide glasses, the added MI dissolves interstitially into the glass structure network without changing the alkali sulfide network structure. In 0.6Na2S + 0.4(0.1Ga2S3 + 0.9GeS2) glasses, however, the added NaI may affect the glass structure as it causes systematic changes in the frequency of the Ge-S network mode as seen in the Raman spectra.  相似文献

Spectrometric and ellipsometric studies of (1 − x)TiO2 · xLn2O3 (Ln = Nd, Sm, Gd, Er, Yb; x = 0.33, 0.5) thin films at room temperature were performed. The obtained dispersion dependences of refractive indices are successfully described by the optical-refractometric relation. The dependence of optical pseudogap and refractive indices on composition and molar mass of the films is investigated. The influence of compositional disordering on the energy width of the exponential absorption edge is studied.  相似文献

Classical molecular dynamics modelling has been used to obtain new models of 50CaO·50P2O5 and 50MgO·50SiO2 glasses and, together with previously published models of 63CaO·37Al2O3, and 50CaO·50SiO2 glasses, these have been inspected to evaluate structural features. For the first time, models of glasses near the eutectic in three systems, aluminate, silicate, and phosphate, with the same modifier, Ca, have been compared. All have short range order which is similar to that in crystals of the same composition, 5CaO·3Al2O3, CaSiO3 and Ca(PO3)2. There is a clear trend in bonding of bridging oxygen to Ca, which is dominant in aluminate glass, common in silicate glass, and absent in phosphate glass. Preliminary results for 50MgO·50SiO2 glass show unusual behaviour because ~ 5% of oxygen is present as “non-network” oxygen, i.e. bonded only to Mg. The models show broader Qn distributions than seen in NMR experiments, and this remains an area for improvement of MD modelling of glasses. The distributions of Ca in the models have been studied using the pair distribution function TCaCa(r) which is found to be similar in the three glasses, and also similar to the previous experimental measurement for 50CaO·50SiO2 glass. The distributions of Ca are markedly different in the glasses compared to the crystals, being isotropic in the former and anisotropic in the latter, which should be a factor in glass forming ability.  相似文献

Diffusion coefficients of various polyvalent ions (Sn2+, As3+, As5+, Sb3+, Sb5+, Cr3+, Ti4+, V4+, V5+ and Fe3+) were measured in melts with the basic compositions of 10CaO·10 BaO·10Al2O3·70SiO2 and 10CaO·10BaO·15Al2O3·65SiO2 by means of square-wave voltammetry. At temperatures in the range of 1300-1600 °C, linear correlations between logD and 1/T were observed. At 1400 °C, the diffusion coefficients obtained are compared with those obtained from other glass melt compositions.  相似文献

SiO2-BaO-ZnO-xB2O3-(10−x) Y2O3, (0 ≤ x ≤ 10) glasses are synthesized. The effect of Y2O3 on the structural and optical properties of glasses has been investigated using different characterization techniques. The results are discussed in light of non-bridging oxygens (NBO), optical basicity and heat-treatment of glasses. The band gap has been calculated for as cast and heat-treated glasses. The band gap energy is found to decrease with the increasing content of Y2O3 in the glasses and heat-treatment. The presence of the crystalline phase in the glass matrix showed remarkable effect on band gap which decreases to semiconducting range.  相似文献

Glasses of the xNd2O3(1−x)(3Bi2O3 · PbO) system with 0?x?0.30 were obtained and studied by IR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), density and magnetic susceptibility measurements. IR and density measurements show that the addition of neodymium ions produces structural changes and the neodymium ions play a network modifier role in the host glass matrix. XPS investigation permitted following the evolution of the structural disorder, of the degree of polymerization of bismuthate chains and of the fraction of bridging oxygens with respect to the neodymium ion concentration of the studied glasses. Magnetic susceptibility data show that the Nd3+ ions are present as isolated species for x?0.05 and as both isolated and exchange coupled species for higher x values.  相似文献

Aluminate glasses are important materials from a fundamental structural point of view because Al is the only network former. They present also a technological interest because of their good IR transmission and ultralow optical losses. Aluminum in glasses of the system MO-Al2O3 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) can have different coordination numbers, essentially 4 and 6, as a function of the MO/Al2O3 ratio. Using Raman spectroscopy and high field 27Al NMR spectroscopy, we have determined the structure of aluminum network as a function of MO/Al2O3 ratio with M corresponds to different alkaline-earth cations. Al is essentially in four-fold coordination with different amounts for Al2O3 between 50 and 75% but varies between Q2 and Q4 species as a function of MO/Al2O3 ratio where Q is tetrahedral species and n the number of bridging oxygen.  相似文献
