In this paper, we investigate the impact of EDFA and SOA amplifiers over BER and Q-parameter of a Radio-over-Fiber (Rof) system consisting of two different system set-ups using direct- and external-laser modulation techniques. In this work, we also measured and compared the electric Rf power at receiver at different modulating Rf frequencies up to 20 GHz using two different optical amplifiers, i.e. EDFA and SOA. Further, we also compared the received electric Rf power at different optical powers without and with different optical amplifiers. An improvement of −11 dB (approx.) of received Rf power was observed using EDFA with the external modulation technique, on comparing with direct modulation.  相似文献

A radio-over-fiber (RoF) distribution system incorporating both sub-carrier multiplexing and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technologies is presented. This signal is directly modulated onto three high-speed lasers. Bragg filters are employed at the receiver base station in order to both demultiplex the required optical channel, and ensure that the detected signal is single side band (in order to overcome dispersion limitations of the link). System spectral efficiency is optimised by wavelength interleaving. The channel spacing between the WDM channels is varied and the system performance for different values of channel spacing and spectral efficiencies is investigated. The results show that wavelength interleaving is a reliable technique that could be used to increase the spectral efficiency of RoF systems.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of the modulation index of LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulator on the radio over fiber (RoF) link based on single sideband (SSB) optical millimeter (mm)-wave with ASK signal is theoretically and numerically investigated. Our investigation shows that there exists an optimal modulation index to generate the SSB optical mm-wave with a maximal RF photocurrent. Although the fiber dispersion distorts the code form and degrades the performance of the RF signal demodulated from the SSB optical mm-wave after fiber transmission, it does not cause the closure of the eye diagram. However, the influence of the fiber dispersion becomes more obvious as the modulation index increases. For the duplex RoF link with the optical carrier of the uplink recovered from the downlink, a larger modulation index of the downlink causes a worse crosstalk from the downlink to the uplink.  相似文献

We demonstrate a rapidly tunable 10 Gb/s all-optical wavelength converter based on a semiconductor optical amplifier delay interferometer and a tunable laser. It uses a 16-channel 100 GHz-spacing digitally tunable multifrequency laser based on a novel external-cavity laser design. The bit sequence on the incoming wavelength is converted alternatively to different wavelengths. Power penalties are 1.1 dB for 30 ns guard-time spacing between wavelength packets.  相似文献

The impact of fiber polarization mode dispersion (PMD) on the bit error rate (BER) performance of a direct sequence optical code-division multiple-access system is analyzed by the split-step Fourier method based on the coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the three-dimensional Poincare sphere theory and the Jones matrix method. When the incident pulse's width is bigness than the chip duration, which causes spreading and overlapping of chips and degrades system performance due to increased interchip interference and reduced received optical power conduce cannot decoding or error decoding. When the incident pulse's width is less than the chip duration, good encoding/decoding performance can be achieved.  相似文献

Since the introduction of erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in optical fiber communication systems at 1550 nm, the fiber loss is no longer considered as the limiting factor but the fiber dispersion and chirp parameters play an important role in degrading the performance of optical communication systems. Further, the invention of external modulators of Mach-Zehnder (MS) type minimizes the transmission power penalty due to fiber chromatic dispersion as these modulators are consider almost chirp-free modulators. Also, better suppression of nonlinear distortions consists of harmonic distortions (HDs) and intermodulation distortions (IMDs) were achieved by using Mach-Zehnder external modulator [8]. In this work, a simulation comparison of external- and direct-modulation schemes using different optical amplifiers; SOA and EDFA in single-tone RoF system is reported. A single-tone channel of 20 GHz is transmitted over single-mode fiber (SMF) either externally modulated by using single-electrode (SEMZM) - and dual-electrode (DEMZM) - Mach-Zehnder modulator or by direct-modulation scheme. Better improvements in the measurement of received RF power of a 20 km linked single-tone RoF system are achieved by using SEMZM with EDFA, which means maximum optical link is achieved between Central Office (CO) and Base Station (BS). Further, this scheme provides better BER as compare to other schemes discussed in this paper.  相似文献

Time delay is one of the most important physical parameters in a nonlinear time-delay feedback system. In this paper, we numerically investigate the identification and suppression of the time-delay signature (TDS) of the wavelength chaos by numerical simulations. The autocorrelation function (ACF) and average mutual information (AMI) act as the TDS measures. Especially, the effect of the feedback gain and the initial phase on the TDS is analyzed in detail. The wavelength chaotic nonlinear system undergoes a period-doubling route-to-chaos as the feedback gain is increased. The ACF and/or AMI peaks located at the time delay decrease gradually with increasing the feedback gain. Of interest is that these peaks are kept at a low value when the feedback gain is greater than 15, which indicates the suppression of TDS. The initial phase, however, shows a little effect on the time-delay signature. These results pave the way for optimizing the wavelength chaos by appropriately choosing the control parameters of the nonlinear system.  相似文献

In this paper the IRIS (Integrated Router Interconnected spectrally), an optical domain architecture for datacenter network is analyzed. The IRIS integrated with advanced modulation formats (M-QAM) and coherent optical receiver is analyzed. The channel impairments are compensated using the DSP algorithms following the coherent receiver. The proposed scheme allows N2 multiplexed wavelengths for N×N size. The performance of the N×N-IRIS switch with and without wavelength conversion is analyzed for different Baud rates over M-QAM modulation formats. The performance of the system is analyzed in terms of bit error rate (BER) vs OSNR curves.  相似文献

In this paper, novel interleavers using circular cavities (CC) in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) has been presented and demonstrated for the first time, in which CCs act as phase dispersive mirrors which exhibit a periodic dependence on the frequency of light. Three implementation schemes have been proposed and investigated. Theoretical analysis shows the spectral characteristics of each scheme in a 50-GHz channel spacing application. Furthermore, the chromatic dispersion (CD) of each output comb can be flattened within passband by appending an additional CC. The result shows that the proposed designs with novel interferometer technique can simultaneously provide flat top passbands, high isolation stopband and low CD value as well.  相似文献

We investigate the impact of extinction ratio of single arm sin2 LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder (MZ) amplitude modulator on the performance of 10 and 20 Gb/s single-channel optical communication system. For different fiber lengths, the system performance has been analyzed with the increase in the extinction ratio. The effect of variation in dispersion parameter has also been illustrated. The impact of extinction ratio (ζ), dispersion parameter and length of the fiber has been further optimized with minimum bit error rate (BER) at optimal decision threshold (10−9) for 10 and 20 Gb/s bit rate. It is found that the system gives optimum performance at extinction ratio (ζ) value 20 dB. The increase in the transmission distance from 468 km for 10 Gb/s to 532 km for 20 Gb/s has been reported, and 8 dB improvement in the Q value has been observed as the value of ζ is increased from 10 to 20 dB. At 20 Gb/s, the system gives optimum performance for dispersion parameter value only up to 4 ps/nm km; however, at 10 Gb/s the system can operate for dispersion values up to 14.3 ps/nm km. Further we investigate the self-phase modulation (SPM) effect for the increase in the input power. It is observed that the SPM effect is negligible below 3 dB m input power and it increases at higher power levels.  相似文献

Ultra-cold atoms provide ideal platforms for interferometry.The macroscopic matter-wave property of ultra-cold atoms leads to large coherent length and long coherent time,which enable high accuracy and sensitivity to measurement.Here,we review our efforts to improve the performance of the interferometer.We demonstrate a shortcut method for manipulating ultra-cold atoms in an optical lattice.Compared with traditional ones,this shortcut method can reduce the manipulation time by up to three orders of magnitude.We construct a matter-wave Ramsey interferometer for trapped motional quantum states and significantly increase its coherence time by one order of magnitude with an echo technique based on this method.Efforts have also been made to enhance the resolution by multimode scheme.Application of a noise-resilient multi-component interferometer shows that increasing the number of paths could sharpen the peaks in the time-domain interference fringes,which leads to a resolution nearly twice compared with that of a conventional double-path two-mode interferometer.With the shortcut method mentioned above,improvement of the momentum resolution could also be fulfilled,which leads to atomic momentum patterns less than 0.6hkL. To identify and remove systematic noises,we introduce the methods based on the principal component analysis (PCA) that reduce the noise in detection close to the 1/√2 of the photon-shot noise and separate and identify or even eliminate noises.Furthermore,we give a proposal to measure precisely the local gravity acceleration within a few centimeters based on our study of ultracold atoms in precision measurements.  相似文献

The dynamical properties of a noise-driven tumor cell growth system are investigated when there exist two different kinds of time delays, in the deterministic and fluctuating forces, respectively. Using the approximation probability density approach, the delayed Fokker-Planck equation is obtained. The effects of two different time delays on the stationary probability distribution (SPD), the mean value and the mean passage time (MFPT) are discussed. It is found that the time delay τ1 in the deterministic force can enhance tumor cell number, while the time delay τ2 in the fluctuating force can induce a decrease in tumor cell numbers. On the other hand, while τ1 can hold back the extinction of tumor cells, τ2 can speed up their extinction.  相似文献

We study the synchronization phenomena in a system of globally coupled oscillators with time delay in the coupling. The self-consistency equations for the order parameter are derived, which depend explicitly on the amount of delay. Analysis of these equations reveals that the system in general exhibits discontinuous transitions in addition to the usual continuous transition, between the incoherent state and a multitude of coherent states with different synchronization frequencies. In particular, the phase diagram is obtained on the plane of the coupling strength and the delay time, and ubiquity of multistability as well as suppression of the synchronization frequency is manifested. Numerical simulations are also performed to give consistent results.  相似文献

A novel photonic method of 60 GHz-band vector signal generation for RoF systems based on optical vector signal down-conversion is proposed and experimentally demonstrated in this paper. In the proposed method, the target vector signals are first generated in the optical domain with the help of mature commercial optical devices and then directly distributed to the base stations (BSs) through the fiber link. The generated vector signals can be automatically down-converted to the 60 GHz band in the BSs after O/E conversion, and then directly transmitted to the users without any further processing. With the proposed method, higher spectrum efficiency and system capacity will be obtained compared with the traditional OOK RoF systems while almost no extra system complexity and cost is brought in. According to the characteristics of different types of vector signals, two particular modulation schemes are provided, which are then verified by corresponding simulations and experiments. In the experimental 60 GHz RoF system, the 622 MSym/s 60 GHz-band 8-QAM and 4-QAM signals generated with two different schemes respectively are successfully transmitted over 50 km SMF and 5 m wireless channel without any compensation, and the power penalty are both about 1.7 dB at the BER of 10− 9.  相似文献

To the best of our knowledge, the first direct measurement of the dispersive part of the refractive index is performed at extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) wavelengths, where absorption is higher as compared with hard-x-ray and visible wavelengths. A novel diffractive optical element that combines the functions of a grating and a zone plate is fabricated with Fourier optical techniques and employed here for the first time at EUV/soft-x-ray wavelengths. Both the real and the imaginary parts of the complex refractive indices are measured directly by this technique without recourse to Kramers-Kronig transformations. Data for Al and Ni in the vicinity of their L and M edges, respectively, are presented as first examples of this technique.  相似文献

A chain of vertically rising discrete air bubbles represents a transition phenomenon from individual to continuum behavior in a bubbly liquid. Previous studies have reported that there is a preference for acoustic energy to propagate along the bubble chain and that this behavior could be explained by a coupled-oscillator model. However, it has recently been demonstrated that quantitative results from the coupled-oscillator model do not match experimental data. In this paper, it is shown how adding time delays to the coupled-oscillator model can produce results that are in better agreement with experimental data. In addition, the effects of time delays on the natural frequencies and damping of individual eigenmodes of the vertical bubble chain are also investigated. It was found that adding time delays can dramatically change the damping of the different modes of the system while having less dramatic impact on the natural frequencies of the individual eigenmodes. Counterintuitively, it is found that the effects of time delays appear to be more important when the bubbles are closer together than when they are farther apart.  相似文献

The performance of DWDM ring network topology is investigated with 13 × 15 Gbps channels without using dispersion compensating fiber among the 3 channels are added and droped using OADM, respectively. Each OADM node having 70 km distance between each other. This ring network topology is evaluated by considering the signal quality factor and BER for different input power at all nodes.
