A facile synthesis of 3-substituted-2-aminothiophenes and 1,3-disubstituted-2-methylthiopyrroles

Electron-rich 3-functionalized-2-aminothiophenes 6 and 1,3-disubstituted-2-methylthiopyrroles 10 were synthesized from substituted allyl benzotriazoles 2 and isothiocyanates 3 via condensation and subsequent heterocyclization.     

A convenient synthesis of N, 5-disubstituted-4-imidazoline-2-thiones

The preparation of N,5-disubstituted-4-imidazoline-2-thiones from readily obtainable starting materials is described. These imidazolines are synthesized by refluxing in toluene the appropriate 2-aminomethyl ketone hydrochloride with an equivalent of the desired isothiocyanate and an equivalent of triethylamine. The intermediate thiourea spontaneously eliminates water (removed from the reaction medium by a Dean-Stark trap) to form the imidazoline thione.     

A facile synthesis of methyl 2-substituted-4-benzoxazolecarboxylates

Methyl 2-substituted-4-benzoxazolecarboxylates were synthesized from methyl 2-amino-3-hydroxybenzoate and the corresponding acid chloride or ortho acetal with pyridinium p-toluenesulfonate as an acid catalyst. Decomposition due to hydration at the 2-position was seen for some compounds during purification.     

Ring contraction synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted-3-arylamino-4-cyanopyrroles from 2,6-disubstituted-4-arylamino-5-cyanopyrimidines

A method for synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted-3-arylamino-4-cyanopyrroles from newly synthesised 2,6-disubstituted-4-arylamino-5-cyanopyrimidines by treatment with zinc and acetic acid, the yields being up to 80%, is developed.

Population matrices have been calculated from molecular orbital wave functions of N₂O₄, B₂Cl₄, and B₂F₄ in order to understand further the bonding in these molecules which are isoelectronic in valence electrons but different in structure. C₂H₄ and C₃H₄ have been included in this study as check cases.

Facile stereoselective synthesis of 1,3-disubstituted-4-trichloromethyl azetidin-2-ones

The highly stereoselective synthesis of 1,3-disubstituted-4-trichloromethyl azetidin-2-ones by the [2+2] cycloaddition of ketenes with imines derived from chloral is described.

Computation of aromatic C3N4 networks and synthesis of the molecular precursor N(C3N3)3Cl6

The successful synthesis and structural characterization of molecules that represent segments of extended solids is a valuable strategy for learning metric and stereochemical characteristics of those solids. This approach has been useful in cases in which the solids are particularly difficult to crystallize and thus their atomic connectivity and overall structures become difficult to deduce with X-ray diffraction techniques. One such class of materials is the covalently linked C(x)N(y) extended solids, where molecular analogues remain largely absent. In particular, structures of C(3)N(4) solids are controversial. This report illustrates the utility of a simple molecule, N(C(3)N(3))(3)Cl(6), in answering the question of whether triazine based C(3)N(4) phases are layered or instead they adopt 3D structures. Here, we present density functional calculations that clearly demonstrate the lower stability of graphitic C(3)N(4) relative to 3D analogues.
