The consistency of recent experimental and theoretical analyses of liquid He4 is investigated. Further evidence is found for a strong depletion of the zero momentum state. The modifications of a Brueckner-Sawada type approximation implied by this depletion as well as by the existence of a net attraction of the helium atoms are discussed. It is found that a single particle model which does not allow for a sufficient width in the single particle spectral function is incapable of giving the observed excitation spectrum as well as the binding energy of liquid He. Better results are obtained with a single particle model which usesFeynman's energiesk 2/2ms(k) instead of the peak energy in neutron scattering.  相似文献

There has been a resurgence of interest in the properties of solid helium due to the recent discovery of non-classical rotational inertia (NCRI) in solid 4He by Chan and coworkers below 200 mK which they have interpreted as a transition to a ‘supersolid’ phase. We have carried out a series of elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements on single crystals of hcp 4He at temperatures down to 60 mK. While we have found no direct evidence of any change in the excitation spectrum at low temperatures, we have found that the excitation spectrum of solid 4He shows several interesting features, including extra branches in addition to the phonon branches. We interpret these extra branches as single particle excitations due to propagating vacancy waves, which map on to the famous ‘roton minimum’ long known in the excitation spectrum of superfluid liquid 4He. The results show that in fact solid 4He shares several features in common with the superfluid.   相似文献

On the basis of the longitudinal field Green function, in a three-layer non-symmetrical system of media with spatial dispersion the image-force potential is calculated for surfaces of the semi-infinite helium bath and a liquid helium film, and also for a surface of the phase-separated 3He4He mixture. Self-maintained glow discharge at atmospheric pressure in a helium flow is used as an excitation source of spectra for analysis of the metals Na, Ca, Pb, Cd, and Zn in aqueous solutions of their salts. Excitation and emission spectra of the 4s21S0 – 4s4p1P1 and 4s4p3PJ(J = 0, 1, 2) – 4s5s3S1 transitions of Ca atoms implanted not only in liquid 4He but also in liquid 3He have been measured. It has been found that the excitation spectra for liquid 3He show considerably smaller widths and peak shifts from transition wavelengths of a free Ca atom, in comparison with those for liquid 4He. These spectral characteristics have been well reproduced by our theoretical calculation based on a vibrating bubble model. This calculation has shown that, due to a significant difference in surface tension between the two liquids, the radius of a bubble formed around Ca in liquid 3He is larger than the one in 4He, and that this fact as well as the smaller number density of He atoms in liquid 3He cause weaker perturbation for Ca, resulting in the smaller peak shift and width for liquid 3He.  相似文献

The emission of a low-pressure helium plasma (P≤2 Torr) initiated by a monochromatic electron beam is investigated. It is found that an increase in the current leads to a drastic increase in the rate of charge exchange of doubly charged helium ions. The assumption is made that inelastic collisions of He++ ions with metastable helium atoms provide the main channel of charge exchange of these ions due to the reaction He+++Hem→ He+*+He 0 + .  相似文献

A method to deal with the electron impact excitation cross sections of an atom from low to high incident energies are presented. This method combines the partial wave method and the first Born approximation(FBA), i.e., replacing the several lowest partial wave cross sections of the total cross sections within FBA by the corresponding exact partial wave cross sections. A new set of codes are developed to calculate the FBA partial wave cross sections. Using this method,the convergent e–He collision cross sections of optical-forbidden and optical-allowed transitions at low to high incident energies are obtained. The calculation results demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the method.  相似文献

Summary In this paper, we apply theU-matrix theory to derive an explicit expression for the excitation energy spectrum of liquid4He. Using a model for the effective chemical potential for4He, we are able to produce an excitation spectrum which is very close to the observed one. The inverse of the effective mass,i.e. 1/m *, is obtained as a function of momentumk. The ratio between the effective mass and the mass of helium atom atk=2.0 ?−1,i.e. near the roton depth, is found to bem *(k=2.0 ?−1)/m He=0.18298, while the ratio atk=1.0 ?−1 ism *(k=1.0 ?−1)/m He=−0.17103. The theoretical result of the excitation spectrum is consistent with observational data.
Riassunto In questo lavoro si applica la teoria della matriceU per dedurre un'espressione esplicita per lo spettro d'energia di eccitazione dell'4He liquido. Usando un modello per il potenziale chimico efficace per l'4He si è in grado di produrre uno spettro di eccitazione molto simile a quello osservato. L'inverso della massa efficace, cioè 1/m *, è ottenuto in funzione del momentok. Si trova che il rapporto tra massa efficace e la massa dell'atomo di elio ak=2.0 ?−1, cioè vicino alla profondità del rotore, èm * (k=2.0 ?−1)/m He= =0.18298, mentre quello ak=1.0 ?−1 èm * (k=1.0 ?−1)/m he=−0.17103. Il risultato teorico dello spettro di eccitazione è coerente con i dati sperimentali.

Резюме В этой статье мы применяем теориюU-матрицы для вывода явного выражения для энергетического спектра возбуждений Зидкого4He. Используя модель для эффективного химического потенциала для4He, мы воспроизводим спектр возбуждений который оказывается очень близким к зкспериментально наблюдаемому. Вычисляется обратная величина эффективной массы, т.е. 1/m *, как функция импульсаk. Получено отношение эффективной массы к массе атома гелия приk=2.0 ?−1, которое составляетm * (k=2.0 ?−1)/m He=0.18298, тогда как это отношение приk=1.0 ?−1 равноm * (k=1.0 ?−1)/m He=−0.17103. Теоретический результат для спектра возбужений согласуется с имеющимися экспериментальными данными.

It is shown that the spectrum of the bulk excitations in helium II, which ends at the Pitaevskii point, should be recovered at a certain critical point with the coordinates of about several roton energies and momenta in the form of the spectrum of vortex rings. As the momentum increases, the spectrum of surface capillary waves should be transformed to the spectrum of surface vortex half-rings.  相似文献

We study the threshold conditions of the parametric excitation of temperature oscillations using pulsed microwave pumping in three-mode regime for high-Q ferroelectric cryogenic resonators made of SrTiO3 and KTaO3. Comparative analysis is performed for the threshold power of the excitation of temperature oscillations and the threshold power of the ponderomotive parametric excitation of acoustic oscillations in the resonator. It is shown that in three-mode regime, temperature oscillations can develop under a rather moderate pump power of about 0.1–8 μW, depending on the combination of interacting temperature and electromagnetic modes. The calculated low threshold powers allow one to apply resonators in practice as high-sensitivity infrared sensors, resonant bolometers, and parametric amplifiers. We consider the problem of finding the energy spectrum of electrons localized above the surface of a liquid helium film under the electrostatic attraction of induced charges. We show that the forces of attraction to the charges induced on the surface of a conductor located beneath the film begin to additionally influence the forces of attraction of the electrons to the free liquid surface as the film thickness decreases. When the film thickness becomes less than 10μm, this influence causes a significant increase in the energy difference between the lower levels and a decrease in their depth. We suggest a numerical method for solving the problem and present the results of our calculations of the energy spectrum of electrons localized above the surfaces of liquid 3He, 4He, and neon films. The influence of the pressing electric field on the energy spectrum is considered.  相似文献

An analysis is performed of the mechanism responsible for excitation of the levels 23S1, 21S0, 23P012, 21P1 of He in a gas discharge with a tubular cathode of special construction. Using the experimentally determined electron kinetic characteristics, the populations of these levels are calculated with consideration of transitions between the levels. Total and differential cross sections for simultaneous excitation of H(2s), H(3s) and He(1s 2s) by electron impact in the presence of a photon field have been calculated in second-order perturbation theory. The characteristics of the results are interpreted in terms of their physical origin. The off-shell excitation cross section for the He(1s 2s) state is found to be one order of magnitude smaller than that for excitation of the H(2s) state. This is consistent with our expection that atoms with higher dipole-polarisability should favour larger off-shell cross sections for transitions betweens-states.  相似文献

Spectra of coupled electron–ripplon oscillation of two-dimensional (2D) Wigner crystal with the surface electron density ns=6.4×108 cm−2 (melting temperature of 0.58 K) are measured under conditions of both complete and noncomplete screening of the holding electric field in temperature range 0.08–0.4 K. The frequencies of the resonances are compared with the results of calculation in the frameworks of a self-consistent theory by Monarkha and Shikin. It is shown that the amplitude of the (0,1) resonance mode tends to 0 as temperature reaches the melting temperature.  相似文献

We calculated the surface tension of liquid helium using a relation between the condensate fraction and surface tension. The paired-phonon model for the condensate fraction results in calculated surface tension in excellent agreement with experiment at low temperatures.  相似文献
