Studies on the interaction of Eu(III) with lawsone (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone), lapachol (2-hydroxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-1,4-naphthoquinone), juglone (5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) and plumbagin (2-methyl-5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone)

pH-metric studies show that one mole of Eu(III) interacts with three molecules of each of juglone, plumbagin, lawsone and lapachol in solution. The stability and thermodynamics of these systems (50% aqueous acetone, 0.1 M KNO₃ ionic strength) are discussed and explained.     

Synthesis of 5-Alkyl-1,3-bis[2-hydroxy-3-(6-methyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidin-3-yl)propyl]-6-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-2,4-diones

6-Methyluracil sodium salt reacts with 1,3-bis(3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)-6-methyluracils in DMF, yielding products of alkylation at the nitrogen atom in position 3 of the uracil ring.     

Reactions of 5-(6-Methyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-pyrimidinyl)-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thione with Electrophiles

 Treatment of 5-(6-methyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-pyrimidinyl)-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thione with haloalkanes yielded oxadiazole S-alkyl derivatives, whereas its reaction with formaldehyde and amines resulted in formation of oxadiazole N(3)-aminomethyl derivatives. The alkylation of 2-alkylsulfanyl-5-(6-methyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-pyrimidinyl)-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles with methyl bromoacetate proceeded at the N(1)-position of pyrimidine to give 2-alkylsulfanyl-5-(1-methoxycarbonylmethyl-6-methyl-2,4-dioxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-pyrimidinyl)-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazoles, whereas aminomethylation, bromination, or nitration took place at position 5 of pyrimidine ring and afforded the corresponding 5-pyrimidine substituted derivatives.

Potentially tautomeric 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,4-dioxo-5H-pyridazino[4,5-bindole

The tautomeric 1,4-dioxygenated pyridazinoindole 1 exists in aqueous solution as a mixture of all four tautomeric forms 1a - 1d. The predominant tautomeric form is the 4-hydroxy-1-oxo hydroxy-1-oxo compound 1b. The relative abundance of the four forms 1a 1b 1c 1d at equilibrium is 10^4.93:10^8.03:10^3.61:1.     

Synthesis and biological activity of new 2-amino-4-[3-methyl-3-(5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-2-naphthyl)cyclobutyl]thiazole derivatives

Stability constants and thermodynamic functions of beryllium(II), palladium(II) and oxozirconium(II) with lapachol [2-hydroxy-3-(3-methyl-2-butenyl) -1,4-naphthoquinone]

Chelating properties of lapachol are known [1–3]. This communication concerns the determination of stability constants and thermodynamic functions of beryllium(II)-, palladium(II)- and oxozirconium(II)—lapachol systems.     

Synthesis of 1,3-Bis[2-hydroxy-3-(3-methyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydro-1-pyrazolyl)propyl)uracils

A reaction was studied of newly synthesized 1,3-bis(2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl)uracil and 1,3-bis(2-hydroxy-3-chloropropyl)-6-methyluracil with hydrazine hydrate followed by treating the compounds formed with ethyl acetoacetate. The hydrazones obtained cyclized into pyrazolones in the presence of sodium methylate.
