Capillary affinity electrophoresis (CAE) has been employed to investigate quantitatively the interactions of valinomycin, macrocyclic depsipeptide antibiotic ionophore, with univalent cations, ammonium and alkali metal ions, K(+), Cs(+), Na(+), and Li(+), in methanol. The study involved measuring the change in effective electrophoretic mobility of valinomycin while the cation concentrations in the BGE were increased. The corresponding apparent stability (binding) constants of the valinomycin-univalent cation complexes were obtained from the dependence of valinomycin effective mobility on the cation concentration in BGE using a nonlinear regression analysis. The calculated apparent stability constants of the above-mentioned complexes show the substantially higher selectivity of valinomycin for K(+) and Cs(+) ions over Li(+), Na(+), and NH(4)(+) ions. CAE proved to be a suitable method for the investigation of both weak and strong interactions of valinomycin with small ions.  相似文献

The variations of the selectivity coefficient K(A)(B) between Na(+)-H(+), Na(+)-K(+), and Na(+)-Cu(2+) systems and the separation factor alpha(A)(B) between Na(+)-Cu(2+) and K(+)-Cu(2+) systems in cation-exchange membranes as functions of loading and particle size of resin have been measured. The exchange affinities of all the membranes increase as H(+)相似文献

A novel potentiometric membrane sensor for potassium ion based on the use of rifamycin as a neutral ionophore is described. The sensing membrane is formulated with 2 wt.% rifamycin-SV, 69 wt.% dibutylsebacate plasticizer and 29 wt.% PVC. Linear and stable potential response with near-Nernstian slope of 56.7 +/- 0.2 mV decade(-1) are obtained over the concentration range 1 x 10(-1)-3 x 10(-5) M K(+). The detection limit is 0.3 microg ml(-1) K(+), the response time is 10-30 s and the working pH range is 4-11. Responses of the sensor toward alkali and alkaline earth metal ions are in the order K(+) > Rb(+) > Cs(+) > Na(+) > NH(4)(+) > Ba(2+) > Mg(2+) > Ca(2+) > Sr(2+) > Li(+). The selectivity coefficient data reveal negligible interference from transition metal ions. Direct potentiometric determination of K(+) in the presence of 10-50-fold excess of alkali and alkaline earth metals gives results with an average recovery of 99.1%, and a mean standard deviation of 1.2%. The data agree fairly well with those obtained by flame photometry.  相似文献

The interfacial structure between the muscovite (001) surface and aqueous solutions containing monovalent cations (3 × 10(-3) m Li(+), Na(+), H(3)O(+), K(+), Rb(+), or Cs(+), or 3 × 10(-2) m Li(+) or Na(+)) was measured using in situ specular X-ray reflectivity. The element-specific distribution of Rb(+) was also obtained with resonant anomalous X-ray reflectivity. The results demonstrate complex interdependencies among adsorbed cation coverage and speciation, interfacial hydration structure, and muscovite surface relaxation. Electron-density profiles of the solution near the surface varied systematically and distinctly with each adsorbed cation. Observations include a broad profile for H(3)O(+), a more structured profile for Li(+) and Na(+), and increasing electron density near the surface because of the inner-sphere adsorption of K(+), Rb(+), and Cs(+) at 1.91 ± 0.12, 1.97 ± 0.01, and 2.26 ± 0.01 ?, respectively. Estimated inner-sphere coverages increased from ~0.6 to 0.78 ± 0.01 to ~0.9 per unit cell area with decreasing cation hydration strength for K(+), Rb(+), and Cs(+), respectively. Between 7 and 12% of the Rb(+) coverage occurred as an outer-sphere species. Systematic trends in the vertical displacement of the muscovite lattice were observed within ~40 ? of the surface. These include a <0.1 ? shift of the interlayer K(+) toward the interface that decays into the crystal and an expansion of the tetrahedral-octahedral-tetrahedral layers except for the top layer in contact with solution. The distortion of the top tetrahedral sheet depends on the adsorbed cation, ranging from an expansion (by ~0.05 ? vertically) in 3 × 10(-3)m H(3)O(+) to a contraction (by ~0.1 ?) in 3 × 10(-3) m Cs(+). The tetrahedral tilting angle in the top sheet increases by 1 to 4° in 3 × 10(-3) m Li(+) or Na(+), which is similar to that in deionized water where the adsorbed cation coverages are insufficient for full charge compensation.  相似文献

We report a solid-state (23)Na NMR study of monovalent cation (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Rb(+), Cs(+) and NH(4) (+)) binding to double-stranded calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) at low relative humidity, ca 0-10%. Results from (23)Na--(31)P rotational echo double resonance (REDOR) NMR experiments firmly establish that, at low relative humidity, monovalent cations are directly bound to the phosphate group of CT DNA and are partially dehydrated. On the basis of solid-state (23)Na NMR titration experiments, we obtain quantitative thermodynamic parameters concerning the cation-binding affinity for the phosphate group of CT DNA. The free energy difference (DeltaG degrees ) between M(+) and Na(+) ions is as follows: Li(+) (-1.0 kcal mol(-1)), K(+) (7.2 kcal mol(-1)), NH(4) (+) (1.0 kcal mol(-1)), Rb(+) (4.5 kcal mol(-1)) and Cs(+) (1.5 kcal mol(-1)). These results suggest that, at low relative humidity, the binding affinity of monovalent cations for the phosphate group of CT DNA follows the order: Li(+) > Na(+) > NH(4) (+) > Cs(+) > Rb(+) > K(+). This sequence is drastically different from that observed for CT DNA in solution. This discrepancy is attributed to the different modes of cation binding in dry and wet states of DNA. In the wet state of DNA, cations are fully hydrated. Our results suggest that the free energy balance between direct cation-phosphate contact and dehydration interactions is important. The reported experimental results on relative ion-binding affinity for the DNA backbone may be used for testing theoretical treatment of cation-phosphate interactions in DNA.  相似文献

Four macrocyclic polyether derivatives of o-phenanthroline were synthesized and used as neutral carriers for preparing poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane electrodes to sense primary amine species. The potentiometric response characteristics of the electrodes prepared were investigated. The electrode sensitive to benzyl amine as model analyte showed a linear response range of 8.0 x 10(-6)-0.1 mol/l with a detection limit of 8.9 x 10(-7) mol/l and a slope of 56.5 mV/decade. The linear potentiometric response of the mexiletine-sensitive electrode was 4.7 x 10(-6)-0.1 mol/l, and the detection limit was 5.0 x 10(-7)1 mol/l with a slope of 59.0 mV/decade. The transfer behavior of amines and ammonium ions through an organic phase was investigated by means of the bulk liquid membrane transport experiment. The effects of pH, counter anions and other factors on the transfer of the amine and ammonium species were studied. The mass transfer rates of the test species facilitated by macrocyclic polyether derivatives of o-phenanthroline were determined and the following sequence was found: benzyl amine > ethyl amine > tetramethyl ammonium > triethyl amine > diethyl amine > K(+) > ammonium > Na(+) > Ca(2+) > Mg(2+). This was exactly the potentiometric selectivity sequence of the membrane electrodes prepared by using these carriers. The mechanism of transfer of benzyl amine through a membrane phase induced by the carriers has been elucidated on the basis of experimental observations.  相似文献

Adsorption of hydrogen ions from aqueous NaCl solutions at the Pyrex glass-water interface was investigated by acid-base titration (glass electrode) at 25 degrees C and at the ionic strengths 0.010, 0.030, 0.10, 1.0, and 3.0 mol dm(-3). The pH values ranged from 2 to 7. The Pyrex samples had a specific surface area of 19.2x10(3) m(2)kg(-1) and a porous structure (pores 2.4 nm thick, 280 nm long). The reactions were found to be extremely slow but showed good reversibility. The potentiometric data, due to the small effect of ionic strength on the equilibria, were fitted with a simple nonelectrostatic model based on strong specific interactions of medium ions with deprotonated silanol, >SiO(-), and boranol, >BO(-), as well as with protonated sites. The acid-base properties are described by the reactions and equilibrium constants at the infinite dilution reference state: >SiONa + H(+) <==> >SiOHNa(+), logbeta110Si=3.1+/-0.2; >SiONa + 2H(+) + Cl(-) <==> >SiOH(2)Cl + Na(+), logbeta201Si=6.75+/-0.15; >SiONa + H(+) <==> >SiOH + Na(+), logbeta100Si=1.8+/-0.2, >BONa + H(+) <==>BOH + Na(+), logbeta100B=6.4+/-0.2; >BONa + H(+) <==> >BOHNa(+), logbeta110B=6.6+/-0.2; >BONa + 2H(+) <==> >BOH(+)(2) + Na(+), logbeta200B=11.56+/-0.15.  相似文献

Highly dispersed zirconium phosphate was prepared by reacting Cel/ZrO(2) (ZrO(2)=6.7 wt%; 0.56 mmol g(-1) of zirconium atom per gram of the material) with phosphoric acid. High power decoupling magic angle spinning (HPDEC-MAS)(31)P NMR and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy data indicated that HPO(2-)(4) is the species present on the fiber surface. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed that zirconium hydrogen phosphate particles were amorphous and had an ion-exchange capacity, determined by ammonia gas adsorption, of 0.30 mmol g(-1). The ion-exchange capacities for Li(+), Na(+), and K(+) ions were determined from ion-exchange isotherms at 298 K and showed the following values (in mmol g(-1)): Li(+)=0.01, Na(+)=0.23, and K(+)=0.30. The higher affinity of the surface hydrogen phosphate particles for Na(+) and K(+) is due to its lamelar structure which permits easier diffusion of these two ions whose hydrated radii are smaller than that of Li(+).  相似文献

A microfluidic device with an all-solid-state potentiometric biosensor array was developed using microfabrication technology. The sensor array included a pH indicator, and potassium and calcium ion-selective microelectrodes. The pH indicator was an iridium oxide thin film modified platinum microelectrode and the iridium oxide was deposited by an electrochemical method. The potassium and calcium ion-selective microelectrodes were platinum coated with silicon rubber based ion-selective membranes with respectively potassium (valinomycin) and calcium (ETH 1001) ionophores. The detection system was integrated with a micro-pneumatic pump which can continuously drive fluids into the microchannel through sensors at flow rates ranging from 52.4 microl min(-1) to 7.67 microl min(-1). The sensor array microfluidic device showed near-Nernstian responses with slopes of 62.62 mV +/- 2.5 mV pH(-1), 53.76 mV +/- 3 mV -log[K+](-1) and 25.77 mV +/- 2 mV -log[Ca2+](-1) at 25 degrees C +/- 5 degrees C, and a linear response within the pH range of 2-10, with potassium and calcium concentrations between 0.1 M and 10(-6) M. In this study the device provided a convenient way to measure the concentration of hydrogen, potassium and calcium ions, which are important physiological parameters.  相似文献

We report UV photodissociation (UVPD) and IR-UV double-resonance spectra of dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) complexes with alkali metal ions (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Rb(+), and Cs(+)) in a cold, 22-pole ion trap. All the complexes show a number of vibronically resolved UV bands in the 36,000-38,000 cm(-1) region. The Li(+) and Na(+) complexes each exhibit two stable conformations in the cold ion trap (as verified by IR-UV double resonance), whereas the K(+), Rb(+), and Cs(+) complexes exist in a single conformation. We analyze the structure of the conformers with the aid of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In the Li(+) and Na(+) complexes, DB18C6 distorts the ether ring to fit the cavity size to the small diameter of Li(+) and Na(+). In the complexes with K(+), Rb(+), and Cs(+), DB18C6 adopts a boat-type (C(2v)) open conformation. The K(+) ion is captured in the cavity of the open conformer thanks to the optimum matching between the cavity size and the ion diameter. The Rb(+) and Cs(+) ions sit on top of the ether ring because they are too large to enter the cavity of the open conformer. According to time-dependent DFT calculations, complexes that are highly distorted to hold metal ions open the ether ring upon S(1)-S(0) excitation, and this is confirmed by extensive low-frequency progressions in the UVPD spectra.  相似文献

Abstract

The response of an ion-selective electrode can be amplified by connecting the cell, which is composed of an ion-selective electrode and a reference electrode, in series. For a cell using 1, 2 or 3 valinomycin electrodes connected in series, the response slopes to 1 × 10?5 ?1 × 10?1 M K+ were 58, 116 and 174 mV/activity decade (a.d.) at 25°C, respectively. This amplification method would especially be useful for accurate determinations with electrodes in the range of low concentrations outside the Nernstian response or for determinations of polyvalent ions, in which both cases exhibit small emf response changes in changing the ion concentration.  相似文献

Four calix[4]arene dibenzocrown ether compounds have been prepared and evaluated as Cs(+)-selective ligands in solvent polymeric membrane electrodes. The ionophores include 25,27-bis(1-propyloxy)calix[4]arene dibenzocrown-6 1, 25,27-bis(1-alkyloxy)calix[4]arene dibenzocrown-7s 2 and 3, and 25,27-bis(1-propyloxy)calix[4]arene dibenzocrown-8 4. For an ion-selective electrode (ISE) based on 1, the linear response concentration range is 1x10(-1) to 1x10(-6) M of Cs(+). Potentiometric selectivities of ISEs based on 1-4 for Cs(+) over other alkali metal cations, alkaline earth metal cations, and NH(4)(+) have been assessed. For 1-ISE, a remarkably high Cs(+)/Na(+) selectivity was observed, the selectivity coefficient (K(Cs,Na)(Pot)) being ca. 10(-5). As the size of crown ether ring is enlarged from crown-6 (1) to crown-7 (2 and 3) to crown-8 (4), the Cs(+) selectivity over other alkali metal cations, such as Na(+) and K(+), is reduced successively. Effects of membrane composition and pH in the aqueous solution upon the electrode properties are also discussed.  相似文献

We report the preparation and solution properties of metal-free [1b(H(2))] and cobalt [1c(Co)] porphyrazines (pz's), where three pyrroles are functionalized with a S(2)O(3) crown ether for metal-ion binding and the fourth pyrrole is appended with two long-chain alcohols (bis((11-hydroxyundecyl)thio)) for potential use as surface anchors. Compounds 1b(H(2) and 1c(Co) exhibit ion-specific optical changes in the presence of Ag(+) and Hg(2+). Binding of Ag(+) to 1b(H(2)) is described by a 1:1 binding isotherm, with K(D) approximately 147 microM, whereas binding of Hg(2+) to 1b(H(2)) appears more complex. For 1c(Co), binding of Ag(+) and Hg(2+) also can be fit to a 1:1 isotherm, with K(D) approximately 109 and 83 microM, respectively. All four titrations show nonisosbesticity, including those apparently describable by the 1:1 isotherm, which indicates that there are intermediate stages as multiple ions bind. Neither 1b(H(2)) or 1c(Co) gives optical responses to Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Pb(2+), or Cu(2+) or to alkali (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), and Cs(+)) and alkaline earth (Mg(2+), Ca(2+), and Ba(2+)) metal ions. Nonetheless, "hard" ions are sensed electrochemically: Na(+) and Li(+) strongly shift the pz/pz(-) couple of 1b(H(2)()) and Co(III)/Co(II) couple of 1c(Co). For the addition of 4 equiv of Li(+) to 1c(Co), the Co(III)/Co(II) shifts +40 mV, and for the addition of 4 equiv of Na(+) to 1c(Co), the shift is +155 mV. The shifted redox waves of 1c(Co) all retain their reversibility. In contrast, for the addition of either 4 equiv of Li(+) or Na(+) to 1b(H(2)), the shifts of the pz/pz(-) couple are essentially the same, approximately 170 mV, and the shifted redox waves become broadened and less reversible, due to ion-induced aggregation. For 1c(Co) the shape of the titration curves [M]/[1b(H(2))] versus E(1/2) is concave to the x-axis, implying cooperative binding of multiple M(+) ions as part of the redox/binding system of equilibria.  相似文献

The pentagonal K(10)[(UO(2))(5)(μ-O(2))(5)(C(2)O(4))(5)] species have been identified as the building blocks of uranyl-peroxide nanocapsules. The computed complexation energies of different alkali cations (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Rb(+), and Cs(+)) with [(UO(2))(5)(μ-O(2))(5)(O(2))(5)](10-) and [(UO(2))(20)(μ-O(2))(30)](20-) species suggest a strong cation templating effect. In the studied species, the largest complexation energy occurs for the experimentally used alkali cations (Na(+) and K(+)).  相似文献

To understand the cation-pi interaction in aromatic amino acids and peptides, the binding of M(+) (where M(+) = Li(+), Na(+), and K(+)) to phenylalanine (Phe) is studied at the best level of density functional theory reported so far. The different modes of M(+) binding show the same order of binding affinity (Li(+)>Na(+)>K(+)), in the approximate ratio of 2.2:1.5:1.0. The most stable binding mode is one in which the M(+) is stabilized by a tridentate interaction between the cation and the carbonyl oxygen (O[double bond]C), amino nitrogen (--NH(2)), and aromatic pi ring; the absolute Li(+), Na(+), and K(+) affinities are estimated theoretically to be 275, 201, and 141 kJ mol(-1), respectively. Factors affecting the relative stabilities of various M(+)-Phe binding modes and conformers have been identified, with ion-dipole interaction playing an important role. We found that the trend of pi and non-pi cation bonding distances (Na(+)-pi>Na(+)-N>Na(+)-O and K(+)-pi>K(+)-N>K(+)-O) in our theoretical Na(+)/K(+)-Phe structures are in agreement with the reported X-ray crystal structures of model synthetic receptors (sodium and potassium bound lariat ether complexes), even though the average alkali metal cation-pi distance found in the crystal structures is longer. This difference between the solid and the gas-phase structures can be reconciled by taking the higher coordination number of the cations in the lariat ether complexes into account.  相似文献

The anharmonicity of weakly bound complexes is studied using the vibrational self-consistent field (VSCF) approach for a series of metal cation dihydrogen (M(+)-H(2)) complexes. The H-H stretching frequency shifts of M(+)-H(2) (M(+) = Li(+), Na(+), B(+), and Al(+)) complexes are calculated with the coupled-cluster method including all single and double excitations with perturbative triples (CCSD(T)) level of theory with the cc-pVTZ basis set. The calculated H-H stretching frequency of Li(+)-H(2), B(+)-H(2), Na(+)-H(2), and Al(+)-H(2) is red-shifted by 121, 202, 74, and 62 cm(-1), respectively, relative to that of unbound H(2). The calculated red shifts and their trends are in good agreement with the available experimental and previously calculated data. Insight into the observed trends is provided by symmetry adapted perturbation theory (SAPT).  相似文献

The potentiometric response of some polythiophenes in aqueous solutions has been investigated. Polythiophene (PT), poly(2,2'-bithiophene) (PBT), poly(3-methylthiophene) (PMT), poly(3-octylthiophene) (POT) and poly(4,4'-dioctyl2,2'-bithiophene) (POTd) were electrochemically deposited on platinum in 0.1M LiBF(4)-propylene carbonate solution containing the corresponding monomer or dimer. Polymer electrodes were also prepared by solution casting of chemically synthesized poly(3-octylthiophene) (POTc) dissolved in chloroform. After film deposition (electrochemical or chemical) the polymer coated electrodes were used as indicator electrodes in potentiometric measurements. The open-circuit potential of the polymer electrodes was measured in aqueous solutions containing inorganic salts (10(-1)-10(-4)M). Interestingly, all the polythiophenes studied were found to give a cationic response to monovalent cations such as H(+), Li(+), Na(+), K(+) and NH(+)(4) (Cl(-) salts). The slope, calculated from the linear part of the response curve, was found to depend on the polythiophene used but always remained lower than that predicted for a Nernstian response. The polythiophenes also showed some sensitivity to divalent cations such as Mg(2+) and Ca(2+) (Cl(-)-salts). POT was used as the polymer to study the influence of the polymerization conditions on the potentiometric response. By investigating different polymers from the polythiophene family it was possible to evaluate how the starting material (monomer or dimer) and the presence of alkyl side-chains influence the potentiometric response of the polymer membranes.  相似文献

The interaction of ferrioxamine B, FeHDFB(+), through a protonated amine side chain, with various host ionophore structures to form a host-guest complex in the second coordination shell has been investigated. Host-guest association constants (K(a)) in water saturated chloroform are reported for synthetic crown ethers with different cavity size and substituents (18-crown-6 and its dicyclohexano, benzo, and dibenzo derivatives; dibenzo and dicyclohexano derivatives of 24-crown-8; and dibenzo-30-crown-10). The natural ionophores valinomycin and nonactin were also found to form stable second-sphere complexes with ferrioxamine B in wet chloroform. Results are reported for both picrate and perchlorate salts of FeHDFB(+). Since the protonated amine side chain of ferrioxamine B may be viewed as a substituted amine, the host-guest association constants for FeHDFB(+) are compared to the interaction of Mg(2+), K(+), NH(4)(+), CH(3)(CH(2))(4)NH(3)(+), and H(4)DFB(+) with the same ionophores. This is the first report of nonactin complexation of this series of cations in an organic medium of low polarity and one of the few reports of valinomycin complexation. To the best of our knowledge these are the first reported stability constants for the association of (Mg(2+),2pic(-)) with natural and synthetic ionophores in chloroform. K(a) values for ferrioxamine B complexation by the synthetic crown ethers are influenced by ring size and substituent. Despite significant preorganization capabilities, the large cavities of valinomycin, nonactin and benzo-30-crown-10 do not form as stable host-guest assemblies with bulky substituted amine cations such as ferrioxamine B as does cis-dicyclohexano-18-crown-6.  相似文献

Lipophilic acyclic dibenzopolyether diamides, 12 kinds, have been designed to prepare solvent polymeric membrane ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) for Pb(2+). The ionophores include 1,5-bis[2-(N,N-dialkylcarbamoylmethoxy)phenoxy]-3-oxapentanes1-4, 1,5-bis[2-(N,N-dialkylcarbamoylpentadecyloxy)phenoxy]-3-oxapentanes 5-8, and 1,2-bis[2-(2'-N,N-dialkylcarbamoylpentadecyloxy)phenoxy]ethanes 9-12. Linear response concentration range of the ISE based on 9 is 3 x 10(-2) - 1 x 10(-6) M of Pb(2+) (average slope = 28.5 mV decade(-1)). Potentiometric selectivities of the ISEs based on 1-12 for Pb(2+) over other heavy metal cations, alkali metal cations, and alkaline earth metal cations have been assessed. These ISEs exhibit remarkably high selectivities for Pb(2+) relative to heavy metal cations, such as Cu(2+), Fe(2+), and Ni(2+), the selectivity coefficients (K(Pot)(Pb,Cu)) being 5 x 10(-5) - 6 x 10(-5) for 1-4 and ca. 6 x 10(-4) for 9. For the Pb(2+) selectivities over alkali metal cations, such as Na(+) and K(+), 9 which has an ethylene glycol spacer and a N,N-diethyl group is superior to other dibenzopolyether diamide ionophores 1-8 and 10-12.  相似文献

Extraction of alkali metal picrates with N,N'-dibenzyl-18-crown-6 was carried out, with dichloromethane as water-immiscible solvent, as a function [ligand]/[metal cation]. The extractability of metal picrates (Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Rb(+), Cs(+)) was evaluated as a function of [L]/[M(+)]. The extractability of complex cation-picrate ion pairs decreases in this sequence: Li(+)>Rb(+)>Cs(+)>K(+)>Na(+). The overall extraction equilibrium constants (K(ex)) for complexes of N,N'-dibenzyl-18-crown-6 with alkali metal picrates between dichloromethane and water have been determined at 25 degrees C. The values of the extraction constants (logK(ex)) were determined to be 10.05, 6.83, 7.12, 7.83, 6.73 for Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Rb(+) and Cs(+) compounds, respectively. DB186 shows almost 2-fold extractability against Li(+) compared to the other metal picrates, whereas it shows no obvious extractability difference amongst the other metal cations when [L]/[M(+)] is 0.2-1. However, an increasing extractability is observed for Cs(+) when [L]/[M(+)] [1].  相似文献
