The postmodification of poly[9‐(2‐hexyldecyl)‐9H‐carbazole‐2,7‐diyl] ( P1 ) upon its reaction with N‐bromosuccinimide affords exclusive and full bromination of the 3,6‐positions of the carbazole repeat units to yield poly[3,6‐dibromo‐9‐(2‐hexyldecyl)‐9H‐carbazole‐2,7‐diyl] ( P2 ). Brominated polymer P2 can be used as a precursor for further functionalization at the 3,6‐positions with the desired functional group to afford other useful polymers. Polymer P2 has hence been reacted with copper(I) cyanide to afford poly[3,6‐dicyano‐9‐(2‐hexyldecyl)‐9H‐carbazole‐2,7‐diyl] ( P3 ). Full substitution of the bromide groups with nitrile‐functional groups has been achieved. The preparation and structural characterization of polymers P2 and P3 are presented together with studies on their electronic conjugation and photoluminescence properties. Cyclic voltammetry studies on polymer P3 indicate that the new polymer is easier to reduce (n‐dope) but more difficult to oxidize than its unsubstituted counterpart ( P1 ) as a result of the introduction of the electron‐withdrawing nitrile‐functional groups at the 3,6‐positions on the carbazole repeat units on the polymer chains. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A blue fluorescent polymer based on poly(vinyl carbazole) (PVK) and terfluorene, combined to make a chemical hybrid at the carbazole unit (PVK‐TF), is fully characterized in this study. PVK‐TF shows useful emission features, such as peaks at 400, 420, 437, 460, and 496 nm, depending on the processing conditions. It possesses a relatively high triplet energy level (2.23 eV), electrochemical stability, good film‐forming ability, and morphological stability. Based on this blue fluorescent material, highly efficient orange phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs) were fabricated with a maximum efficiency of 21.99 cd A?1, and a maximum luminance of 19552.3 cd m?2. Single‐layer hybrid white PLEDs were developed, with a high color rendering index of 81.9 that emitted across the whole visible spectrum from 380 to 780 nm, corresponding to the Commission International de L'Eclairage coordinates x, y values of around (0.38, 0.40) and CCT = 3774, with a maximum current efficiency of 10.69 cd A?1, and a maximum brightness of 15723.3 cd m?2. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Fabrication of polymer light‐emitting diodes based on emission from the phosphorescent molecule fac‐tris(2‐phenylpyridine) iridium doped into a poly(N‐vinyl carbazole) host are reported. For single‐layered devices with magnesium‐silver cathodes, the luminance efficiency at 20 mA/cm2 was measured as 8.7 cd/A. This efficiency could be increased by over a factor of two by incorporation of evaporated small‐molecule layers into the device structure. Significant increases in device efficiency were also obtained without these evaporated layers by modification of the electrodes. Incorporation of 3,4‐poly(ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) at the anode improved the device efficiency but had little impact on drive voltage. Insertion of lithium fluoride at the cathode resulted in no improvement in performance for magnesium‐silver and aluminum cathodes, but a significant improvement was realized in efficiency and drive voltage for calcium‐aluminum cathodes. Excellent device performance was observed for all three cathode metals used in conjunction with cesium fluoride. Through optimization of the electrodes and emitter‐layer thickness, devices exhibiting efficiencies as high as 37.3 cd/A are realized. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An N‐phenylcarbazole‐containing poly(p‐phenylenevinylene) (PPV), poly[(2‐(4′‐carbazol‐9‐yl‐phenyl)‐5‐octyloxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)‐alt‐(2‐(2′‐ethylhexyloxy)‐5‐methoxy‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene)] (Cz‐PPV), was synthesized, and its optical, electrochemical, and electroluminescent properties were studied. The molecular structures of the key intermediates, the carbazole‐containing boronic ester and the dialdehyde monomer, were crystallographically characterized. The polymer was soluble in common organic solvents and exhibited good thermal stability with a 5% weight loss at temperatures above 420 °C in nitrogen. A cyclic voltammogram showed the oxidation peak potentials of both the pendant carbazole group and the PPV main chain, indicating that the hole‐injection ability of the polymer would be improved by the introduction of the carbazole‐functional group. A single‐layer light‐emitting diode (LED) with a simple configuration of indium tin oxide (ITO)/Cz‐PPV (80 nm)/Ca/Al exhibited a bright yellow emission with a brightness of 1560 cd/m2 at a bias of 11 V and a current density of 565 mA/cm2. A double‐layer LED device with the configuration of ITO/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxy‐2,5‐thiophene):poly (styrenesulfonic acid) (60 nm)/Cz‐PPV (80 nm)/Ca/Al gave a low turn‐on voltage at 3 V and a maximum brightness of 6600 cd/m2 at a bias of 8 V. The maximum electroluminescent efficiency corresponding to the double‐layer device was 1.15 cd/A, 0.42 lm/W, and 0.5%. The desired electroluminescence results demonstrated that the incorporation of hole‐transporting functional groups into the PPVs was effective for enhancing the electroluminescent performance. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new aromatic host polymer poly{[1,4‐bis(9‐decylcarbazole‐3‐yl)‐2,3,5,6‐tetrafluorobenzene‐3,3′‐diyl]‐alt‐[N‐methylisatin‐2‐one‐3,3‐diyl]} (PICzFB) containing carbazole–tetrafluorinebeneze–carbazole moiety in the π‐conjugated interrupted polymer backbone was synthesized by superacid‐catalyzed metal‐free polyhydroxyalkylation. The resulted copolymer PICzFB showed a comparatively wide band gap up to 3.32 eV and high triplet energy (ET) of 2.73 eV due to confined conjugation by the δ? C bond interrupted polymer backbone. Blue and green light‐emitting devices with PICzFB as host, FIrpic and Ir(mppy)3 as phosphorescent dopants showed the maximum luminous efficiencies of 5.0 and 27.6 cd/A, respectively. The results suggested that the strategy of incorporating bipolar unit into the π‐conjugated interrupted polymer backbone can be a promising approach to obtain host polymer with high triplet level for solution‐processed blue and green phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An investigation into the preparation of poly(9‐alkyl‐9H‐carbazole‐3,6‐diyl)s with palladium catalyzed cross‐coupling reactions of 3‐halo‐6‐halomagnesio‐9‐alkyl‐9H‐carbazoles, generated in situ from their corresponding 3,6‐diiodo‐ and 3,6‐dibromo‐derivatives was undertaken. Monomers with a range of alkyl group substituents with different steric requirements were investigated and their effects on the polymerization were studied. The effects of the nature of halogen substituents on the polymerization reaction were also investigated. Structural analysis of the polymers revealed exclusive 3,6‐linkage between consecutive carbazole repeat units on the polymer chains. The physical properties of these polymers were investigated with spectroscopic, thermal gravimetric analysis, and electrochemical studies. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the present study, a new (E)‐rich‐enyne π‐conjugated polymer containing a carbazole was designed and synthesized. Two different synthesis methods of poly[N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐carbazolyleneethynylene‐(E)‐vinylene] (PCZEV) have been prepared from 3,6‐diethynyl‐9(2‐ethylhexyl)carbazole by using the palladium‐carbene‐catalyzed reaction and/or by using the organolanthanide‐catalyzed reaction leading to well‐defined polymer, and their general properties were studied. Compared to poly[N‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3,6‐carbazolyleneethynylene] (PCE), the UV‐vis absorption and photoluminescence of the PCZEV was red‐shifted, which indicates the extension of conjugation length. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The Suzuki coupling polymerization between bis(carbazole) monomer ( CzDB ) and 9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐diboronic acid was carried out to obtain PFCz‐PEDA0 having the number‐averaged molecular weight of 7000. The absorption and emission maximum wavelengths were observed at 344 and 408 nm, respectively. The quantum yield (QY) was relatively low (0.12) because of the photo‐induced electron transfer. Subsequently, CzPEDA ‐bearing 2,5‐bis(phenylethenyl)‐4‐decyloxyanisole (PEDA) segment sandwiched with 3‐bromocarbazole units was copolymerized to give PFCz‐PEDAn (n = 05, 10, 20, 35, and 50). The content of PEDA segment in polymer could be controlled by the monomer feed ratio. In CHCl3 solution, the absorbance at around 400 nm became larger with one isosbestic point at 370 nm, and the emission peak at 448 nm became prominent with increasing the PEDA content. The QY of polymer was increased as the PEDA content, which was a consequence of the fluorescence resonance energy transfer from carbazole‐containing chromophore (energy donor) to PEDA fluorophore (energy acceptor). In spin‐coated film, the maximum QY was obtained in PFCz‐PEDA05 having the most appropriate molar balance of energy donor and acceptor units. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel styrene derived monomers with triphenylamine‐based units, and their polymers have been synthesized and compared with the well‐known structure of polymer of N,N′‐bis(3‐methylphenyl)‐N,N′‐diphenylbenzidine with respect to their hole‐transporting behavior in phosphorescent polymer light‐emitting diodes (PLEDs). A vinyltriphenylamine structure was selected as a basic unit, functionalized at the para positions with the following side groups: diphenylamine, 3‐methylphenyl‐aniline, 1‐ and 2‐naphthylamine, carbazole, and phenothiazine. The polymers are used in PLEDs as host polymers for blend systems with the following device configuration: glass/indium–tin–oxide/PEDOT:PSS/polymer‐blend/CsF/Ca/Ag. In addition to the hole‐transporting host polymer, the polymer blend includes a phosphorescent dopant [Ir(Me‐ppy)3] and an electron‐transporting molecule (2‐(4‐biphenyl)‐5‐(4‐tert‐butylphenyl)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazole). We demonstrate that two polymers are excellent hole‐transporting matrix materials for these blend systems because of their good overall electroluminescent performances and their comparatively high glass transition temperatures. For the carbazole‐substituted polymer (Tg = 246 °C), a luminous efficiency of 35 cd A?1 and a brightness of 6700 cd m?2 at 10 V is accessible. The phenothiazine‐functionalized polymer (Tg = 220 °C) shows nearly the same outstanding PLED behavior. Hence, both these polymers outperform the well‐known polymer of N,N′‐bis(3‐methylphenyl)‐N,N′‐diphenylbenzidine, showing only a luminous efficiency of 7.9 cd A?1 and a brightness of 2500 cd m?2 (10 V). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new fluorene‐co‐carbazole‐based copolymer (PFCD), with a bulky peripheral dendritic carbazole pendant at the 9‐position, has been designed and synthesized through a Suzuki polycondensation reaction. The resulting copolymer exhibits desirable properties, such as excellent solubility, good thermal stability, and electrochemical properties. PFCD also shows efficient blue light‐emitting properties with excellent color purity and high photoluminescent quantum yield. The results of the photophysical properties indicate that the large side dendron with peripheral carbazole groups can not only efficiently suppress the π‐stacking of polymer chains but also raise the HOMO level of the resulting polymer material. Thus, PFCD is expected to be a promising pure blue light‐emitting material and further experiments on electroluminescent properties, film morphology, and aggregation behaviors are in progress.

An indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing blue‐, green‐, and red light‐emitting moieties was synthesized by Suzuki polymerization and examined for application in white organic light‐emitting diodes (WOLEDs). Tetraoctylindenofluorene (IF), 2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (BT), and 4,7‐bis(2‐thienyl)‐2,1,3‐benzothiadiazole (DBT) derivatives were used as the blue‐, green‐, and red‐light emitting structures, respectively. The number‐average molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be 25,900 g/mol with a polydispersity index of 2.02. The polymer was thermally stable (Td = ~398 °C) and quite soluble in common organic solvents, forming an optical‐quality film by spin casting. The EL characteristics were fine‐tuned from the single copolymer through incomplete fluorescence energy transfer by adjusting the composition of the red/green/blue units in the copolymer. The EL device using the indenofluorene‐based copolymer containing 0.01 mol % BT and 0.02 mol % DBT units ( PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 ) showed a maximum brightness of 4088 cd/m2 at 8 V and a maximum current efficiency of 0.36 cd/A with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.34, 0.32). The EL emission of PIF‐BT01‐DBT02 was stable with respect to changes in voltage. The color emitted was dependent on the thickness of the active polymer layer; layer (~60 nm) too thin was unsuitable for realizing WOLED via energy transfer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary: The photo‐crosslinking of carbazole dendrimers was analyzed by UV and IR spectroscopic methods. Photoirradiation results in the formation of a film that is insoluble in toluene and benzene. Time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry studies revealed that the photoirradiation lead to an oligomerization of the dendrimer through crosslinking. The resulting insoluble dendrimer film could be applied as a hole‐transport layer in efficient polymer electroluminescence devices (PLEDs).

We report the optical and electroluminescent properties of four novel poly(aryl ether)s ( P1 – P4 ) consisting of alternate isolated hole‐transporting [carbazole or 3,6‐bis(styryl)carbazole] and electron‐transporting [dicyano‐p‐quaterphenyl or bis(trifluoromethyl)‐p‐quaterphenyl] fluorophores. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the four polymeric films show maximum peaks around 407–413 nm for P1 , P2 and 442–447 nm for P3 , P4 . The PL spectra of P1 ~ P4 are dependent on the composition of the two isolated fluorophores. According to the observation of relative quantum yield in poor solvent (cyclohexane), P2 containing more bulky trifluoromethyl groups in p‐quaterphenyl segments prevented aggregate quenching processes more than P1 . Compared with P1 and P2 with carbazole segments, P3 and P4 with 3,6‐bis(styryl)carbazole segments exhibited less interchain interaction and a low threshold electric field in a single‐layer device. The p‐quaterphenyl and carbazole [or 3,6‐bis(styryl)carbazole] segments were regarded as electron‐transporting and hole‐transporting units, respectively, in the single‐layer light‐emitting diodes (Al/ P1 – P4 /ITO). In the double‐layer device (ITO/MEH‐PPV/ P2 /Al), the maximum luminance was doubled, and the threshold electric fields diminished because P2 functioned as an electron‐transporting and hole‐blocking layer. Furthermore, the voltage‐tunable multicolor emission from orange to green was observed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 42: 333–340, 2004  相似文献

Polyfluorene homopolymer ( P1 ) and its carbazole derivatives ( P2 – P4 ) have been prepared with good yield by Suzuki coupling polymerization. P2 is an alternating copolymer based on fluorene and carbazole; P3 is a hyperbranched polymer with carbazole derivative as the core and polyfluorene as the long arms; P4 is a hyperbranched polymer with carbazole derivative as the core and the alternating fluorene and carbazole as the long arms. These polymers show highly thermal stability, and their structures and physical properties are studied using gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, UV–vis absorption, photoluminescence, and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The influence of the incorporation of carbazole and the hyperbranched structures on the thermal, electrochemical, and electroluminescent properties has been investigated. Both carbazole addition and the hyperbranched structure increase the thermal and photoluminescent stability. The CV shows an increase of the HOMO energy levels for the derivatives, compared with polyfluorene homopolymer ( P1 ). The EL devices fabricated by these polymers exhibit pure blue‐light‐emitting with negligible low‐energy emission bands, indicating that the hyperbranched structure has a strong effect on the PLED characteristics. The results imply that incorporating carbazole into polyfluorene to form a hyperbranched structure is an efficient way to obtain highly stable blue‐light‐emitting conjugated polymers, and it is possible to adjust the property of light‐emitting polymers by the amount of carbazole derivative incorporated into the polymers. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Carbazole and fluorene‐based random and alternating copolycondensates were synthesized to develop high‐performance blue light‐emitting polymers by improving electron injection ability of poly(N‐aryl‐2,7‐carbazole)s that showed intense blue electroluminescence (EL) with good hole‐injection and ‐transport ability. These copolycondensates absorbed light energy at about λmax = 390 nm in CHCl3 and 400 nm in film state, and fluoresced at about λmax = 417 nm in CHCl3 and 430 nm in the thin film state. Energy gaps between highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of them were about 2.9 eV, and the energy levels of LUMO situated lower than that of corresponding polycarbazole. Polymer light‐emitting diode devices having configuration of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrenesulfonate)/polymer/CsF/Al using the copolycondensates, poly(N‐arylcarbazole‐2,7‐diyl), and poly(9,9‐dialkylfluorene‐2,7‐diyl), emitted bluish EL at operating voltages lower than 7 V. The device embedded the random copolycondensate showed notably higher performance with maximum luminance of 31,200 cd m?2 at 11.0 V, and the current efficiencies observed under operating voltages lower than 7 V were higher than those of the other devices. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new p‐phenylene–vinylene–thiophene‐based siloxane block copolymer has been synthesized. The copolymer consists of alternating rigid and flexible blocks. The rigid blocks are composed of phenylene–vinylene–thiophene‐based units, and the flexible blocks are derived from 1,3‐dialkyldisiloxane units. The former component acts as the chromophore, and allows fine tuning of band gap for blue‐light emission, while the latter imparts good solubility of the copolymer in organic solvents, and thus, should enhance processibility of the resulting copolymer. The thermal properties of the copolymer have been characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The photoluminescence (PL) of the copolymer in solution and in cast film has been studied. The effects of concentration on the PL intensity of the new copolymer in polymer blends with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(vinyl carbazole) (PVK) have also been described. Efficient energy transfer from PVK to the new block copolymer in the blended film was observed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 1450–1456, 2000  相似文献

A new near‐infrared switchable electrochromic polymer containing carbazole pendant (poly‐SNSC), synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of 2,5‐bis‐dithienyl‐1H‐pyrrole (SNS) main chain, has been prepared. The electrochemical and optical properties of SNSC monomer and its polymer have been investigated. Because of having two different electro‐donor moieties; that is, carbazole and SNS, SNSC gave two separate electrochemical oxidation and also light brown color of the film in the neutral state turn into gray on oxidation. A novel class of carbazole polymers, nitrogen‐linked poly(2,7‐carbazole)s, was synthesized by polycondensation between two bifunctional monomers using the palladium‐catalyzed amination reaction. The polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, Infrared, Gel permeation chromatography, and MALDI‐TOF MS and it was revealed that the combination of the monomer structures is important for producing high molecular weight polymers. Thermal analysis indicated a good thermal stability with high glass transition temperatures, e.g., 138 °C for the higher molecular weight polymer P2 . To pursue the application possibilities of these polymers, their optical properties and energy levels were investigated by UV‐Vis absorption and fluorescence spectra as well as their electrochemical characteristics. Although the blue light emission was indeed observed for all polymers in solution, the quantum yields were very low and the solid films were not fluorescent. On the other hand, the HOMO levels of the polymers estimated from the onset potentials for the first oxidation in the solid thin films were relatively high in the range of ?5.12 to ?5.20 eV. Therefore, light emitting diodes employing these polymers as a hole‐transport layer and iridium(III) complex as a triplet emitter were fabricated. The device of the nitrogen‐linked poly(2,7‐carbazole) P3 with p,p′‐biphenyl spacer, which has a higher HOMO level and a higher molecular weight, showed a much better performance than the device of P2 with m‐phenylene spacer. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two new poly(phenylene vinylene)s (PPVs) carrying electron‐donating triphenylamine or carbazole and electron‐deficient quinoxaline units were synthesized and characterized. Their properties were compared with those of PPV containing only quinoxaline unit. The two polymers showed PL maximum at 501–510 in solution and 533–540 in thin film. Because of the presence of electron donor and acceptor units they displayed strong intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) effects; hence, low‐photoluminescence quantum yields. The polymers showed reversible electrochemical reduction with electron affinity of 2.75 eV and irreversible oxidation with ionization potential of 5.10–5.24 eV. Single‐layer LED of configuration ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Al showed low turn‐on voltage at 5 V, but limited brightness of 50–60 cdm?2. The electroluminescence maximum was voltage‐tunable varying from 500 to 542 nm. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 2367–2378, 2008  相似文献

A novel nonconjugated copolymer (PVKEu) with carbazole segments and phenanthroline [Eu(β‐diketonate)3] moieties was synthesized via free radical copolymerization, and characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, GPC, ICP, and elemental analysis. The copolymer exhibited good solubility, as well as good thermal stability and high glass transition temperature. The photoluminescence (PL) of this polymer in solution and in solid film has been studied. A multi‐layer device with the configuration of ITO/PEDOT: PSS (40 nm)/PVKEu (70 nm)/BCP (15 nm)/AlQ3 (30 nm)/LiF/Al exhibited nearly monochromatic red emission at 615 nm and voltage‐independent spectral stability. Our results suggest that enhancing the ligand‐mediated energy transfer between the matrix polymer and europium complex is a potential method to improve the electroluminescence performance of the Eu‐chelated polymers. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
