A method for the determination of 226Ra, 228Ra and 210Pb in water samples of mining regions by measuring the and intensities with the help of a liquid scintillation counter is presented. The high-energy part of the -particle spectrum emitted by 210Bi is used for the determination of 210Pb content in the samples. An attempt is also given to explain the radioactive disequilibrium between 226Ra and 210Pb in the samples investigated.  相似文献

The present occurrence of 226Ra and 228Ra in marine sediment core and fish from the Exclusive Economic Zone in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia were studied. Sediment core and biota in respectively was collected using multicorer device and purchased from local fishermen at identified stations during the cruise expedition conducted in 2008. The purpose of this study was to determine and to make available an inventory of activity concentration levels and activity ratio for these radionuclides in this region. The activity concentrations of 226Ra and 228Ra in sediment core and edible part of fish were ranged between 15.9–46.5 and 27.7–87.1 Bq/kg dry wt and; 0.80–2.13 and <0.95–3.57 Bq/kg fresh wt, respectively. Meanwhile, the activity ratios of 228Ra/226Ra in sediment core and fish were varied with the range between 1.63–2.09 and 0.45–2.38, respectively. Refer to those ranges the activity concentrations of radium isotopes were comparable with other region. Thus, it can be concluded that the occurrence of radium isotopes mainly supplied from terrestrial sources and the factors of assimilation efficiency and transfer coefficient of radium may probably effect to the variation activity concentration of 226Ra and 228Ra and its activity ratio in edible part of pelagic and demersal fish obtained in this study.  相似文献

Radon (222Rn) and its parent radionuclide Radium (226Ra) are classified as carcinogen. Human exposes to radon in water via inhalation and ingestion, although ingestion is the only way for radium to enter the human body. In this research, tap water collected from Bornova distinct was studied to determine the concentration of radon (222Rn) and radium (226Ra) for evaluating their radiological impact. For this reason, the annual effective doses for ingestion and inhalation were estimated. The measurements were performed using a collector chamber method. The mean concentrations of 222Rn and 226Ra were determined as 0.85 and 0.76 Bq/L, respectively. It can be stated that the 222Rn and 226Ra concentrations of tap waters here are lower than the international reference levels. Obtained concentration levels were applied to estimate annual effective dose due to the inhalation and ingestion. The dose values are also found to be lower than the recommended maximum values. On the other hand, it should be considered that consumption of these waters (2 L) and average radon and radium concentrations of water are the significant factors for estimating doses.  相似文献

New method for simultaneous determination of228Ra and226Ra by using 3M's EMPORETM Radium Rad Disks in water has been developed. Both radionuclides226Ra and228Ra were counted through their daughter products,226Ra by conventional radon emanation techniques and228Ra through its daughter228Ac by using a proportional counter. Different molarity of diammonium hydrogen citrate were used for elution of228Ac and226Ra from EMPORETM Radium Rad Disks. 79% of228Ac was eluted in 10 ml of 0.0003M diammonium hydrogen citrate. The recovery of226Ra was 99% by using 40 ml of 0.2M diammonium hydrogen citrate adjusted by ammonium to pH 7.8.  相似文献

Slags, derived from coal mined in the neighbourhood of the town Tatabánya in Hungary, have been used as filling and insulating material for buildings of houses, block of flats, schools and kindergartens. The slag samples come from here have elevated concentrations of 226Ra, (range of 850–2400 Bq·kg–1). Therefore, the external gamma dose rates at 1 m height were about four times higher than the world average. It has been found, based on the modelling, that the dose rate could be decreased with 70–80% using an appropriate thickness of concrete or barite-concrete layers.  相似文献

Liquid scintillation counting has not been widely applied to a-particle detection because of its poor energy resolution and variable background. In the present work, a time saving and reasonably accurate method for determination of 226Ra in water has been developed, using liquid scintillation spectrometry and pulse-shape analysis. The effect of three levels of chemical quench on the spillover of alpha interactions into the beta window and vice versa was assessed. The advantages of liquid scintillation in comparison with other methods (radon emanation) for determination of 226Ra are the high counting efficiency (~100%) and the easier sample preparation, with no need for sample preconcentration.  相似文献

The Environmental Survey Laboratory is responsible for the monitoring of radioactivity due to natural and artificially produced radionuclides in a variety of samples available around the nuclear facilities at Tarapur. Standard methods of radiochemical separation and counting are followed to determine -emitters in various matrices. To make the measurement simple and detect lower levels of contamination in some of the matrices, a method was developed to measure the high energy gross -activity primarily due to 90Y in borehole water and urine samples of occupational workers by Cerenkov counting in a liquid scintillation analyser. Cerenkov counting results of borehole samples were compared with the total gross -activity measured by a low background beta-counter. The combined measurements were used to evaluate 90Sr and 137Cs levels without chemical separation or gamma-spectrometry. Cerenkov counting technique was also utilised to evaluate 40K in drinking water and intercomparison water samples. The paper presents the methodology and results of a few measurements using the technique.  相似文献

The evaluation of the source term in facilities related to the first stages of nuclear fuel involves the determination of radium concentration, as well as those from other radionuclides members of the uranium series. These activities are often required within a short time period, making impossible the use of radiochemical methods or the gamma-ray spectrometry of radium daughters. In those situations it can be very convenient to determine the226Ra activity by means of its 186 keV gamma-ray line. For this purpose it is necessary to estimate the interference due to235U, also present in natural samples. This method has been applied successfully to several soil samples from an old uranium factory in Southern Spain.  相似文献

The sediment samples have been collected from estuarine regions of Mindola and Purna of Gujarat State. These samples are found to contain less than 3% of organic matter which scavange and carry most of the activity of226Ra, etc., to the sediment floor. The activities of226Ra are found to vary from 0.1 to 0.5 pCi/g, while210Pb activities lie in the range of 3 to 8 pCi/g. These activities find their way into the organisms present in sea water and then into fish which is finally consumed by humans. This paper gives in detail the sampling techniques, experimental procedures and the distribution of the isotopes of226Ra and210Pb in the estuarine regions and the concentration factors of226Ra in the region.  相似文献

The activity concentrations of 226Ra, 228Ra and 222Rn were measured in 87 groundwater samples to estimate the activity concentrations of these radionuclides and health impact due to intake of these radionuclides in groundwater of Jordan. The mean activity concentrations of 226Ra, 228Ra and 222Rn in groundwater were found to be 0.293?±?0.005 Bq L?1, 0.508?±?0.009 Bq L?1 and 58.829?±?8.824 Bq L?1, respectively. They give a mean annual effective dose of 0.481 mSv with mean lifetime risk of 24.599?×?10?4, exceeding the admissible limit of 10?4. Most of the received annual effective dose (59.15% of the total) is attributed to 228Ra.

A protocol is proposed for the measurement of 226Ra on 150 mg of solid sample without radiochemistry. To evaluate the performance of this method, standard samples were used and the results were in good agreement with reference values. The detection limit obtained is about 130 Bq kg−1 (dry weight) without mineralised solution concentration by evaporation. A concentration of the solution by 4 and/or an increase of sample mass by 4 in the case of microwave digestion system, allows achieving a detection limit of 30 Bq kg−1 (dry weight) and thus measuring 226Ra in most soils. This method could also be used for NORM sites on soil and sediment samples.

A solvent-free microextraction technique based on liquid–gas–liquid microextraction was investigated for the extraction and preconcentration of 2,4-di-tert-butyl phenol from aqueous samples. In this study 16 μL NaOH 1 M as acceptor phase was introduced in the lumen of a polypropylene hollow fiber, with one of its ends heat-sealed. A small piece (about 2 cm) of metallic wire was used to seal the other end of hollow fiber after introducing acceptor phase and before immersing of hollow fiber into the analyte solution. This configuration eliminated the need for a holder. The extraction procedure is simple and there is no necessity to adjust pH, salt content, temperature, etc. After extraction the acceptor phase was transferred to a 1-mL vial, 50 μL 0.5 M phosphoric acid was added and the sample was injected into the HPLC–DAD system. Detection was performed at 280 nm. Limit of detection is 30 ng mL−1 and the relative standard derivation (n = 6) is 5.0%. An enrichment factor (EF) of about 30 is achievable.  相似文献

A novel method for the determination of phenolic compounds (phenol, o-cresol, m-cresol, 2,4-dimethylphenol, 2,3-dimethylphenol and 3,4-dimethylphenol) in water samples was developed by combined continuous-flow liquid-phase microextraction (CFME) with gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID). The effects of extraction solvent type and volume, flow rate of sample solution, extraction time, salt concentration and pH on the extraction performance were investigated and optimized. The calibration curves and analyses of real samples were obtained under the following conditions: 3.0 μL n-Amyl acetate, 1.5 mL min−1 flowing rate, 15 min extracting time and pH 1.5. The developed protocol was found to yield a linear calibration curve in the concentration ranged from 10 to 10000 μg L−1 for the target analytes, and the limits of detection ranged from 2.32 to 2.95 μg L−1. Good repeatabilities of extraction were obtained, with relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) values below 6.89%. The results demonstrated that the CFME followed with GC-FID is a simple and reliable technique for the determination of phenolic compounds in water samples.  相似文献

A procedure for the determination of natural uranium and226Ra in waters and soils has been carried out and applied to the analysis of samples for environmental radiological monitoring.226Ra determination consists of co-precipitation with BaSO4,222Rn emanation in toluene and finally liquid scintillation counting. Natural uranium is then determined by a fluorometric technique. This paper describes the method and the conditions that were tested to optimize it. The technique was found to be suitable for the analysis of surface and ground waters, samples from rivers, streams and lakes and soil samples, because of its few steps, short processing time, high recovery percentages and suitable detection limits.  相似文献

A previous paper reported the application of a method for determining226Ra by -spectroscopy. This paper presents important improvements which permit the determination of226Ra in the presence of large amounts of Ca. The method was applied to the analysis of226Ra and U isotopes in fish samples from the waters of the Grand Canyon.226Ra ranged from 0.05 Bq kg–1 /1.4 pCi kg–1/ to 0.17 Bq k–1 /4.7 pCi kg–1/.238U values ranged from 0.13 Bq kg–1 /3.5 pCi kg–1/ to 0.52 Bq kg–1 /14 pCi kg–1/ and234U values were between 0.23 Bq kg–1 /6.2 pCi kg–1/ and 12 Bq kg–1/ /326. pCi kg–1/.  相似文献
