We prove some results concerning points ofV(a) which are extreme points ofZ v(a).Part of this research was done while the authors were at the Mathematische Institut, Technische Universität, München, West Germany. Some techniques for the study of the algebraic curve C(A) which generates the numerical range W(A) of an n×n matrix A as its convex hull are developed. These enable one to give an explicit point equation of C(A) and a formula for the curvature of C(A) at a boundary point of W(A). Applied to the case of a nonnegative matrix A, a simple relation is found between the curvature of the function Φ(A)=p((1?α)A+ αAT) (pbeingthePerronroot) at α=12 and the curvature of W(A) at the Perron root of 12(A+AT). A connection with 2-dimensional pencils of Hermitian matrices is mentioned and a conjecture formulated.  相似文献

In this paper a new concept for 2×2-block operator matrices – the quadratic numerical range – is studied. The main results are a spectral inclusion theorem, an estimate of the resolvent in terms of the quadratic numerical range, factorization theorems for the Schur complements, and a theorem about angular operator representations of spectral invariant subspaces which implies e.g. the existence of solutions of the corresponding Riccati equations and a block diagonalization. All results are new in the operator as well as in the matrix case.  相似文献

In the present paper, a brief survey on computational techniques for the different classes of singularly perturbed problems is given. This survey is a continuation of work performed earlier by the first author and contains the literature of the work done by the researchers during the years 2000-2009. However some older important relevant papers are also included in this survey. We also mentioned those papers which are not surveyed in the previous survey papers by the first author of this paper, see [Appl. Math. Comput. 30 (1989) 223-259, 130 (2002) 457-510, 134 (2003) 371-429] for details. Thus this survey paper contains a surprisingly large amount of literature on singularly perturbed problems and indeed can serve as an introduction to some of the ideas and methods for the singular perturbation problems.  相似文献

Extending the notion of elements of maximum modulus in ∧ k (A), we examine their location on the complex plane.
