We prove that any polynomial having all its roots in a closed half-plane, whose boundary contains the origin, has either one or two maximal points, and only one if it has at least one root in the open half-plane. This result concerns stable polynomials as well as polynomials having only real roots, including real orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

Orthogonal polynomials of two real variables can often be represented in complex variables. We explore the connection between the two types of representations and study the structural relations of complex orthogonal polynomials. The complex Hermite orthogonal polynomials and the disk polynomials are used as illustrating examples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this contribution, we explore the well-known connection between Hurwitz and orthogonal polynomials. Namely, given a Hurwitz polynomial, it is shown that it can be decomposed into two parts: a polynomial that is orthogonal with respect to some positive measure supported in the positive real axis and its corresponding second-kind polynomial. Conversely, given a sequence of orthogonal polynomials with respect to a positive measure supported in the positive real axis, a sequence of Hurwitz polynomials can be constructed. Based on that connection, we construct sequences of Hurwitz polynomials that satisfy a recurrence relation, in a similar way as the orthogonal polynomials do. Even more, we present a way to construct families of Hurwitz polynomials using two sequences of parameters and a recurrence relation that constitutes an analogue of Favard's theorem in the theory of orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

An explicit representation of the associated Meixner polynomials (with a real association parameter γ?0) is given in terms of hypergeometric functions. This representation allows to derive the fourth-order difference equation verified by these polynomials. Appropriate limits give the fourth-order difference equation for the associated Charlier polynomials and the fourth-order differential equations for the associated Laguerre and Hermite polynomials.  相似文献

We study the use of para-orthogonal polynomials in solving the frequency analysis problem. Through a transformation of Delsarte and Genin, we present an approach for the frequency analysis by using the zeros and Christoffel numbers of polynomials orthogonal on the real line. This leads to a simple and fast algorithm for the estimation of frequencies. We also provide a new method, faster than the Levinson algorithm, for the determination of the reflection coefficients of the corresponding real Szego polynomials from the given moments.

It is well known that classic theorems of Markov and Lukach for real polynomials which have a constant sign on a segment are ineffective. In this paper we obtain criteria for the constant sign property on a segment for real polynomials of the fourth degree and formulate certain their generalizations. The mentioned criteria are stated in terms of the coefficients of the polynomials under consideration.  相似文献

Three equivalent forms of the fourth-order difference equation obeyed by the associated Meixner polynomials (with a nonnegative real association parameter) are derived from a refinement of a recent result due to Letessier et al. (1996).  相似文献

Para‐orthogonal polynomials derived from orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle are known to have all their zeros on the unit circle. In this note we study the zeros of a family of hypergeometric para‐orthogonal polynomials. As tools to study these polynomials, we obtain new results which can be considered as extensions of certain classical results associated with three term recurrence relations and differential equations satisfied by orthogonal polynomials on the real line. One of these results which might be considered as an extension of the classical Sturm comparison theorem, enables us to obtain monotonicity with respect to the parameters for the zeros of these para‐orthogonal polynomials. Finally, a monotonicity of the zeros of Meixner‐Pollaczek polynomials is proved.  相似文献

We consider a connection that exists between orthogonal polynomials associated with positive measures on the real line and orthogonal Laurent polynomials associated with strong measures of the class S3[0,β,b]. Examples are given to illustrate the main contribution in this paper.  相似文献

Two applications of the modified Chebyshev algorithm are considered. The first application deals with the generation of orthogonal polynomials associated with a weight function having singularities on or near the end points of the interval of orthogonality. The other application involves the generation of real Szegő polynomials. This research is supported by grants from CNPq and FAPESP.  相似文献

We bound the location of roots of polynomials that have nonnegative coefficients with respect to a fixed but arbitrary basis of the vector space of polynomials of degree at most d. For this, we interpret the basis polynomials as vector fields in the real plane, and at each point in the plane analyze the combinatorics of the Gale dual vector configuration. This approach permits us to incorporate arbitrary linear equations and inequalities among the coefficients in a unified manner to obtain more precise bounds on the location of roots. We apply our technique to bound the location of roots of Ehrhart and chromatic polynomials. Finally, we give an explanation for the clustering seen in plots of roots of random polynomials.  相似文献

In this article, we establish the Bessel polynomials with varying large negative parameters and discuss their orthogonality based on the generalized Bessel polynomials. By using the Riemann-Hilbert boundary value problem on the positive real axis, we get the Riemann-Hilbert characterization of the main Bessel polynomials with varying large negative parameters.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to present the essential properties of a finite class of orthogonal polynomials related to the probability density function of the F -distribution over the positive real line. We introduce some basic properties of the Romanovski–Jacobi polynomials, the Romanovski–Jacobi–Gauss type quadrature formulae and the associated interpolation, discrete transforms, spectral differentiation and integration techniques in the physical and frequency spaces, and basic approximation results for the weighted projection operator in the nonuniformly weighted Sobolev space. We discuss the relationship between such kinds of finite orthogonal polynomials and other classes of infinite orthogonal polynomials. Moreover, we derive spectral Galerkin schemes based on a Romanovski–Jacobi expansion in space and time to solve the Cauchy problem for a scalar linear hyperbolic equation in one and two space dimensions posed in the positive real line. Two numerical examples demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the schemes.  相似文献

We apply some eigenvalue inequalities to the real parts of the Frobenius companion matrices of monic polynomials to establish new bounds and a majorization for the real parts of the zeros of these polynomials.

Optimal stability polynomials are polynomials whose stability region is as large as possible in a certain region, here the negative real axis. We are interested in such polynomials which in addition, obey a certain order condition. An important application of these polynomials is the construction of stabilized explicit Runge-Kutta methods. In this paper we will give some properties of the roots of these polynomials, and prove that their error constant is always positive. Furthermore, for a given order, the error constant decreases as the degree increases.  相似文献

A new class of three-variable orthogonai polynomials, defined as eigenfunctions of a second order PDE operator,is studied. These polynomials are orthogonal over a curved tetrahedron region, which can be seen as a mapping from a traditional tetrahedron, and can be taken as an extension of the 2-D Steiner domain. The polynomials can be viewed as Jacobi polynomials on such a domain.Three- term relations are derived explicitly. The number of the individual terms, involved in the recurrences relations, are shown to be independent on the total degree of the polynomials. The numbers now are determined to be five and seven, with respect to two conjugate variables z,(?) and a real variable r, respectively.Three examples are discussed in details, which can be regarded as the analogues of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first and the second kinds, and Legendre polynomials.  相似文献

Laguerre–Hahn families on the real line are characterized in terms of second-order differential equations with matrix coefficients for vectors involving the orthogonal polynomials and their associated polynomials, as well as in terms of second-order differential equation for the functions of the second kind. Some characterizations of the classical families are derived.  相似文献

Recently, Srivastava et al. introduced a new generalization of the Bernoulli, Euler and Genocchi polynomials (see [H.M. Srivastava, M. Garg, S. Choudhary, Russian J. Math. Phys. 17 (2010) 251-261] and [H.M. Srivastava, M. Garg, S. Choudhary, Taiwanese J. Math. 15 (2011) 283-305]). They established several interesting properties of these general polynomials, the generalized Hurwitz-Lerch zeta functions and also in series involving the familiar Gaussian hypergeometric function. By the same motivation of Srivastava’s et al. [11] and [12], we introduce and derive multiplication formula and some identities related to the generalized Bernoulli type polynomials of higher order associated with positive real parameters a, b and c. We also establish multiple alternating sums in terms of these polynomials. Moreover, by differentiating the generating function of these polynomials, we give a interpolation function of these polynomials.  相似文献
