We present our simulation results for the benchmark problem of the flow past a rudimentary landing gear using a General Galerkin FEM, also referred to as adaptive DNS/LES. In General Galerkin, no explicit subgrid model is used; instead, the computational mesh is adaptively refined with respect to an a posteriori error estimate of a quantity of interest in the computation, in this case, the drag force on the rudimentary landing gear. Turbulent boundary layers are modeled using a simple wall‐layer model with the shear stress at walls proportional to the skin friction, which here is assumed to be small and, therefore, can be approximated by zero skin friction. We compare our results with experimental data and other state of the art computations, where we find good agreement in sound pressure levels, surface velocities, and flow separation. We also compare with detailed surface pressure experimental data where we find largely good agreement, apart from some local differences for which we discuss possible explanations. Landing gear doors on aircraft have experienced flutter during preliminary flight testing. While designs vary widely, landing gear doors are typically plate-like structures with a relatively rigid actuator attached to their inside surface. To better understand the aeroelasticity of landing gear doors, this study investigates the aeroelastic stability of an idealized model. The model consists of a hinged plate with an interior constraint approximating the actuator attachment. The plate is subject to uniform flow, and an unsteady vortex lattice model is coupled to the structural model to predict critical flow velocities. The location and footprint area of the internal constraint, along with plate aspect and mass ratios, are varied to investigate a large parameter space. Results reveal that the critical flow speed and instability mechanism are sensitive to the postulated actuator placement. In general, flutter is the dominant mode of instability when the actuator is postulated in the leading quarter of the plate. In other postulated locations, divergence dominates. However, the exact shape and location of the boundary between flutter and divergence is configuration dependent and found to be especially sensitive to changes in aspect ratio.  相似文献

The qualities of a DES (Detached Eddy Simulation) and a PANS (Partially-Averaged Navier–Stokes) hybrid RANS/LES model, both based on the kω RANS turbulence model of Wilcox (2008, “Formulation of the kω turbulence model revisited” AIAA J., 46: 2823–2838), are analysed for simulation of plane impinging jets at a high nozzle-plate distance (H/B = 10, Re = 13,500; H is nozzle-plate distance, B is slot width; Reynolds number based on slot width and maximum velocity at nozzle exit) and a low nozzle-plate distance (H/B = 4, Re = 20,000). The mean velocity field, fluctuating velocity components, Reynolds stresses and skin friction at the impingement plate are compared with experimental data and LES (Large Eddy Simulation) results. The kω DES model is a double substitution type, following Davidson and Peng (2003, “Hybrid LES–RANS modelling: a one-equation SGS model combined with a kω model for predicting recirculating flows” Int. J. Numer. Meth. Fluids, 43: 1003–1018). This means that the turbulent length scale is replaced by the grid size in the destruction term of the k-equation and in the eddy viscosity formula. The kω PANS model is derived following Girimaji (2006, “Partially-Averaged Navier–Stokes model for turbulence: a Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes to Direct Numerical Simulation bridging method” J. Appl. Mech., 73: 413–421). The turbulent length scale in the PANS model is constructed from the total turbulent kinetic energy and the sub-filter dissipation rate. Both hybrid models change between RANS (Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes) and LES based on the cube root of the cell volume. The hybrid techniques, in contrast to RANS, are able to reproduce the turbulent flow dynamics in the shear layers of the impacting jet. The change from RANS to LES is much slower however for the PANS model than for the DES model on fine enough grids. This delays the break-up process of the vortices generated in the shear layers with as a consequence that the DES model produces better results than the PANS model.  相似文献

Fully-developed turbulent flow in a concentric annulus, r1/r2 = 0.5, Reh = 12,500, with the outer wall rotating at a range of rotation rates N = Uθ,wall/Ub from 0.5 up to 4 is studied by large-eddy simulations. The focus is on the effects of moderate to very high rotation rates on the mean flow, turbulence statistics and eddy structure. For N up to ∼2, an increase in the rotation rate dampens progressively the turbulence near the rotating outer wall, while affecting only mildly the inner-wall region. At higher rotation rates this trend is reversed: for N = 2.8 close to the inner wall turbulence is dramatically reduced while the outer wall region remains turbulent with discernible helical vortices as the dominant turbulent structure. The turbulence parameters and eddy structures differ significantly for N = 2 and 2.8. This switch is attributed to the centrifuged turbulence (generated near the inner wall) prevailing over the axial inertial force as well as over the counteracting laminarizing effects of the rotating outer wall. At still higher rotation, N = 4, the flow gets laminarized but with distinct spiralling vortices akin to the Taylor–Couette rolls found between the two counter-rotating cylinders without axial flow, which is the limiting case when N approaches to infinity. The ratio of the centrifugal to axial inertial forces, Ta/Re2  N2 (where Ta is the Taylor number) is considered as a possible criterion for defining the conditions for the above regime change.  相似文献

Subgrid-modelling in LES of compressible flow   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Subgrid-models for Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of compressible turbulent flow are tested for the three-dimensional mixing layer. For the turbulent stress tensor the recently developed dynamic mixed model yields reasonable results.A priori estimates of the subgrid-terms in the filtered energy equation show that the usually neglected pressure-dilatation and turbulent dissipation rate are as large as the commonly retained pressure-velocity subgrid-term. Models for all these terms are proposed: a similarity model for the pressure-dilatation, similarity andk-dependent models for the turbulent dissipation rate and a dynamic mixed model for the pressure-velocity subgrid-term. Actual LES demonstrates that for a low Mach number all subgrid-terms in the energy equation can be neglected, while for a moderate Mach number the effect of the modelled turbulent dissipation rate is larger than the combined effect of the other modelled subgrid-terms in the filtered energy equation.  相似文献

We develop and investigate a mathematical model of an aircraft nose landing gear with a dual-wheel configuration. The main aim here is to study the influence of a dual-wheel configuration on the existence of shimmy oscillations. To this end, we consider a model that describes the torsional and lateral vibrational modes and the non-linear interaction between them via the tyre-ground contact. More specifically, we perform a bifurcation analysis (with the software package auto) of the model in the two-parameter plane of forward velocity of the aircraft and vertical load on the nose landing gear. This two-parameter bifurcation diagram allows one to identify regions of different dynamics, and the question addressed here is how it depends on two key parameters of the dual-wheel configuration. Namely, we consider the influence of, first, the separation distance between the two wheels and, second, of gyroscopic effects arising from the inertia of the wheels. For both cases, we find that with increasing separation distance and wheel inertia, respectively, the lateral mode becomes more stable and the torsional mode becomes less stable. More specifically, we present associated bifurcation scenarios that explain the transitions between qualitatively different two-parameter bifurcation diagrams. Overall, we find that the separation distance and gyroscopic effects due to wheel inertia may have a significant influence on the quantitative and qualitative nature of shimmy oscillations in aircraft nose landing gears. In particular, the torsional and the lateral modes of a dual-wheel nose landing gear may interact in a quite complicated fashion.  相似文献

This paper presents Large Eddy Simulations (LES) of flow around a four-vehicle platoon when one of the platoon members was forced to undergo in-line oscillations. The LES were made at the Reynolds number of 105 based on the height of the vehicles. Combinations of two different frequencies corresponding to non-dimensional frequencies at the Strouhal numbers St1 = 0.025 and St2 = 0.013 and two oscillation amplitudes were used in this study. The methodology was validated by comparisons with data from previous experimental investigations. In order to highlight the dynamic effects, comparisons were made with steady results on a single vehicle and on a four-vehicle platoon. Large differences were found in the flow structures between quasi-steady and dynamic results. Furthermore, the behavior of the drag coefficient of the upstream neighbor of the oscillating model was investigated.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a Bayesian framework for estimating joint densities for large eddy simulation (LES) sub‐grid scale model parameters based on canonical forced isotropic turbulence direct numerical simulation (DNS) data. The framework accounts for noise in the independent variables, and we present alternative formulations for accounting for discrepancies between model and data. To generate probability densities for flow characteristics, posterior densities for sub‐grid scale model parameters are propagated forward through LES of channel flow and compared with DNS data. Synthesis of the calibration and prediction results demonstrates that model parameters have an explicit filter width dependence and are highly correlated. Discrepancies between DNS and calibrated LES results point to additional model form inadequacies that need to be accounted for. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Flow control has shown a potential in reducing the drag in vehicle aerodynamics. The present numerical study deals with active flow control for a quasi-2D simplified vehicle model using a synthetic jet (zero net mass flux jet). Recently developed near-wall Partially-Averaged Navier–Stokes (PANS) method, based on the ζf RANS turbulence model, is used. The aim is to validate the performance of this new method for the complex flow control problem. Results are compared with previous studies using LES and experiments, including global flow parameters of Strouhal number, drag coefficients and velocity profiles. The PANS method predicts a drag reduction of approximately 15%, which is closer to the experimental data than the previous LES results. The velocity profiles predicted by the PANS method agree well with LES results and experimental data for both natural and controlled cases. The PANS prediction showed that the near-wake region is locked-on due to the synthetic jet, and the shear layer instabilities are thus depressed which resulted in an elongated wake region and reduced drag. It demonstrates that the PANS method is able to predict the flow control problem well and is thus appropriate for flow control studies.  相似文献

Large-eddy simulations of supersonic nozzle and diffuser flows with circular cross-sections using high-order compact schemes and an explicit filtering version of the approximate deconvolution method are presented in this paper. Two flow cases each for nozzle and diffuser having different outlet to inlet area ratios are presented. The effect of the geometry variations on the Reynolds stresses as well as on the production and pressure-strain terms in their transport equations is demonstrated. A Green’s function analysis of the Poisson equation for pressure fluctuations using LES data is presented and the results show similar trends as found in previous analyses using DNS data. The effects of geometry changes on the rapid and slow parts of pressure-strain correlations is also demonstrated.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the onset of shimmy oscillations of an aircraft nose landing gear. To this end we develop and study a mathematical model with torsional and lateral bending modes that are coupled through a wheel-mounted elastic tyre. The geometric effects of a positive rake angle are fully incorporated into the resulting five-dimensional ordinary differential equation model. A bifurcation analysis in terms of the forward velocity and the vertical force on the gear reveals routes to different types of shimmy oscillations. In particular, we find regions of stable torsional and stable lateral shimmy oscillations, as well as transient quasiperiodic shimmy where both modes are excited.  相似文献

Hybrid models have found widespread applications for simulation of wall‐bounded flows at high Reynolds numbers. Typically, these models employ Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) and large eddy simulation (LES) in the near‐body and off‐body regions, respectively. A number of coupling strategies between the RANS and LES regions have been proposed, tested, and applied in the literature with varying degree of success. Linear eddy‐viscosity models (LEVM) are often used for the closure of turbulent stress tensor in RANS and LES regions. LEVM incorrectly predicts the anisotropy of Reynolds normal stress at the RANS‐LES interface region. To overcome this issue, use of non‐linear eddy‐viscosity models (NLEVM) have started receiving attention. In this study, a generic non‐linear blended modeling framework for performing hybrid simulations is proposed. Flow over the periodic hills is used as the test case for model evaluation. This case is chosen due to complex flow physics with simplified geometry. Analysis of the simulations suggests that the non‐linear hybrid models show a better performance than linear hybrid models. It is also observed that the non‐linear closures are less sensitive to the RANS‐LES coupling and grid resolution. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Particle-laden or droplet-laden turbulent flows occur in many industrial applications and in natural phenomena. Knowledge about the properties of these flows can help to improve the design of unit operations in industry and to predict for instance the occurrence of rain showers. This knowledge can be obtained from experimental research and from numerical simulations. In this paper a review is given of numerical simulation methods for particle-laden flows. There are various simulation methods possible. They range from methods in which all details, including the flow around each particle, are resolved, via point-particle methods, in which for each particle an equation of motion is solved, to Eulerian methods in which equations for particle concentration and velocity are solved. This review puts the emphasis on the intermediate class of methods, the Euler-Lagrange methods in which the continuous phase is described by an Eulerian approach and the dispersed phase in a Lagrangian way with equations of motion for each individual particle.  相似文献

A coupled experimental/numerical analysis of turbulent flow past a square cylinder is performed at the ERCOFTAC Reynolds number Re = UD/ν = 21,400, where U is the inflow velocity and D the cylinder height. Complementary Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and high-order large-eddy simulations (LES) approaches, based on a spectral vanishing technique (SVV-LES), provide a comprehensive data base including both instantaneous data and post-processed statistics. Beyond these results, an achievement of the paper is to investigate the coherent structures developing on the sides and in the wake of the cylinder with a special focus on the flow features in the near-wall region. The flow is found to separate at the leading edge of the cylinder with the occurence of three-dimensional Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) pairings localized in the separating shear layer. The interaction between these KH vortical structures and Von Kármán vortex shedding (VK) in the near wake is discussed based on both visualisations and frequency analysis. In particular, signatures of VK and KH vortical structures are found on velocity time samples.  相似文献
