A new automated batch method for the determination of ultratrace metals (nanogram per liter level) was developed and validated. Instrumental and chemical parameters affecting the performance of the method were carefully assessed and optimized. A wide range of voltammetric methods under different chemical conditions were tested. Cadmium, lead and copper were determined by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV), while nickel, cobalt, rhodium and uranium by adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry (AdCSV). The figures of merit of all of these methods were determined: very good precision and accuracy were achieved, e.g. relative percentage standard deviation in the 4-13% for ASV and 2-5% for AdCSV.The stripping methods were applied to the determination of cadmium, lead, copper, nickel, cobalt, rhodium and uranium in lake water samples and the results were found to be comparable with ICP-MS data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A technique is presented for the determination of trace amounts of copper(II) by adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry. The procedure is based on adsorptive accumulation of copper(II)-Alizarin Red S (ARS) complex on a hanging mercury drop electrode, followed by a stripping voltammetric measurement of the reduction current of the adsorbed complex at -0.16 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). The height of the copper -ARS reduction peak is linearly dependent upon the copper(II) concentration between 0.2-15 and 15-500 ng.ml?1. The detection limit of the technique is 0.05 ng.ml?1 copper(II) for a collection time of 1 minute. The method is free from most interferences. The procedure has been successfully applied to the determination of trace amounts of copper(II) in some analytical grade salts.  相似文献

Abstract

A technique is presented for the determination of trace concentrations of copper (II) in natural water samples by cathodic stripping voltammetry of a film of copper-catechol complex ions adsorbed on the hanging mercury drop electrode. The peak height of the copper-catechol reduction peak is linearly dependent upon the copper (II) concentration between 10?10 and 10?7 M. The detection limit of the technique is below 10?10 M copper (II) for a collection time of 3 minutes, but the sensitivity can be further increased four-fold by collecting for 15 minutes. The sensitivity is reduced by high concentrations of competing trace metals and of surfactants, which necessitate the use of standard additions to the sample.  相似文献

Abstract

The stripping potentiometric determination of lead, cadmium and copper with mercury film glassy-carbon electrodes coated with a Nafion membrane was investigated. The mercury film was plated using either mercury(II) acetate encapsulated within the Nafion membrane or a mercury(II) solution. Dissolved dioxygen was used as the stripping agent. The electrodes showed promising properties, particularly robustness and response repeatability. A linear dependence of the stripping time on concentration was found in the μg l?1 concentration range (s.d. of intercept ≤ 0.3 μg l?1, r.s.d. of slope ≤ 1%, for both lead and cadmium).  相似文献

Abstract

The d.c. anodic stripping voltammetry method has been used to investigate the effect of organic substances simulating the composition of natural waters on the results of determination of concentration levels of copper, lead and cadmium. The response, sensitivity and concentration (the latter determined by the standard additions method) have been used as sources of information. In the presence of enzymes, fulvic acids, humic acids and polyethylene glycol all these three parameters change in the case of determination of copper and lead, making the results unreliable. The determination of cadmium concentration is not hampered by the said organic substances.  相似文献

Abstract

Irradiation with ultraviolet (UV) energy was investigated to assay cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) in amino acid parenteral nutrition (PN) solutions. Sample digestion by UV irradiation showed the best performances to liberate the metals from the samples (metal recoveries between 90% and 102%) in comparison with classical oxidative wet digestion methods. The best UV digestion condition was obtained with 1:10 diluted PN samples irradiated during 10 h at 90±3°C with the addition of one aliquot of 50 µL concentrated H2SO4 and repeated additions of 50 µL 30% (v/v) H2O2 at each 60 min irradiation interval. By using the UV digestion procedure cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc were simultaneously assayed in commercial amino acid PN solutions by ASV. The metal concentrations ranged between 1.3 to 4.4 for cadmium, 2.9 to 40.8 for copper, 4.4 to 16.8 for lead, and 1.4 to 208.5 for zinc. The ASV method correlated well with atomic absorption spectrometry measurements to assay the investigated analytes in amino acid PN samples after the UV digestion.  相似文献

The presence of trace metals in car fuels plays an important role in the engine maintenance. In addition, these metals contribute for the environmental contamination in big cities and their control is necessary. Square Wave Stripping Voltammetry (SWSV) is a very sensitive technique for elemental trace determination and was applied for ethanol fuel analysis. The first studies were done searching for the best conditions for copper determination in alcoholic medium, utilizing gold electrodes. During these studies, the possibility of the simultaneous determination of copper and lead in the same experiment was observed. Two procedures for the analysis of these metals were adopted: The direct quantification of metals in alcohol–water mixtures and a second way that involves the evaporation of the organic solvent and re-suspension of the ions with water+electrolyte. Good recovery values were obtained for synthetic samples spiked with known amounts of metals. The results obtained for the two methods were in good agreement. The detection limits for copper and lead in 75% ethanol–water ratio solution were calculated as 120 and 235 ng l−1, respectively, for 15-min deposition time.  相似文献

The determination of metals in lubricating oil has been used as an important means of preventing components failures, to provide environmental information, and to solve criminal issues. In this study derivative potentiometric stripping analysis (DPSA) was used for the simultaneous determination of copper and lead in lubricating oils of vehicular engines. The samples were completely digested in a focused microwave-assisted oven using a powerful oxidant mixture (HNO3, H2SO4, H2O2). The optimized heating program to digest about 1mL of lubricating oil takes 45minutes. The residual carbon content after digestion was below 0.3%m/m for all samples. Copper and lead were also determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS), and the results obtained were in good agreement with those obtained by electrochemical measurements. Recoveries of 94–109 and 93–103%, for copper and lead, respectively, were obtained for new and used lubricating oil samples.  相似文献

Abstract

A simple method for atomic absorption spectrometric determination of lead, copper, cadmium and nickel in drinking water samples after preconcentration by sorbing 1-(2-pyridylazo) 2-naphthol (PAN) complex of these metals on an activated carbon column has been established. The metal/PAN complexes were quantitatively retained on the activated carbon in the pH range 6-8. Metals retained on the activated carbon column were completely eluted with 2M HCl in acetone. This method was applied to the determination of lead, copper, cadmium and nickel in drinking water samples and good results were obtained (Recoveries >95%, relative standard deviations <7%, relative error <3%).  相似文献

Abstract

The performance of a flow-through mercury coated reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) electrode in the potentiometric stripping analysis (PSA) of trace metals has been examined. A wall-jet glassy carbon cell was used for the comparative experiments. Experimental parameters influencing the stripping signals have been optimised in order to use the stripping analysis after the preconcentration and matrix isolation by supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique. The SLM with di-2-ethylhexyl-phosphoric acid (DEHPA) as the extractant in the membrane liquid for proton driven transport of trace metals across the membrane has been chosen. Results presented for lead determination in river water demonstrate the analytical advantages of coupled technique SLM-PSA.  相似文献

An electrochemical adsorptive stripping approach is presented for the trace measurement of copper in some real samples. The method is based on the reduction of Cu2+ at pH 5.5 calcein blue (CB) containing solution at ?250 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl), adsorption of Cu? CB complex on hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) and the voltammetric determination by further reduction to Cu+ at HMDE. Experimental optimum conditions were determined in the fundamental studies. At the experimental optimum conditions the adsorbed complex of Cu2+ and calcein blue gives a well defined cathodic stripping peak current at ?0.135 V, which has been used for the determination of copper in the concentration range of 0.02 to 15 ng/mL with accumulation time of 90 s. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for the determination of 0.5 and 6.0 ng mL?1 were 2.60 and 1.94% respectively. (n=10). The method has been applied to the analysis of copper in analytical reagent grade salts and tap water, mineral water and drug samples with satisfactory results.

A sensitive and selective method for the simultaneous determination of copper and bismuth by adsorptive stripping was developed using nuclear fast red (2-anthracenesulfonic acid, 4-amino-9,10-dihydro-1,3-dihydroxy-9,10-dioxo-, monosodium salt) as selective complexing agent onto hanging mercury drop electrode. In a single scan both metals gave peaks that were distinctly separated by 85 mV allowing their determination in the presence of each other. Optimal analytical conditions were found to be: nuclear fast red concentration of 80 μM, pH of 2.8 and adsorptive potential of −300 mV versus Ag/AgCl. With accumulation time of 180 s the peaks currents are proportional to concentration of copper and bismuth over the 1-100 and 5-60 ng mL−1 range with detection limits of 0.2 and 1.2 ng mL−1, respectively. The procedure was applied to simultaneous determination of copper and bismuth in some real samples.  相似文献

Abstract

Anodic stripping voltammetry is applied for measurement of copper and zinc in pharamaceutical formulations. Because of the inherent sensitivity and selectivity of stripping voltammetry toward amalgam forming metals, no sample preparation is required (except for acidic dissolution). Copper-zinc intermetallic interferences are eliminated by the addition of an excess of gallium or through utilization of a dual working electrode approach. Automation of this procedure is indicated from flow injection measurments at a rate of 15 per hour.  相似文献

The article reports on utilization of double deposition and stripping steps for increasing sensitivity of Cu(II) determination by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) at two lead film working electrodes. A significant preconcentration of copper was achieved thanks to utilization of a simple design of four electrodes system that gives possibility to perform one measurement cycle consisting of two deposition and two stripping steps. Due to the fact that deposition step is doubled, the concentration of Pb(II) needed to lead film electrodes formation was significantly reduced as compared to traditional procedures using three electrodes system. The analytical procedure of Cu(II) determination was optimized. The experimental factors: supporting electrolyte's pH and its concentration, lead ions concentration, potential and time of deposition at both working electrodes were studied. The Cu(II) peak current was linearly dependent on its concentration from 5×10?10 to 2×10?8 mol L?1 (deposition time of 270 and 160 s at the first and the second working electrode, respectively). The obtained detection limit for copper ions determination was 2.1×10?10 mol L?1. The described procedure was validated by analysis of two water certified reference materials. The described procedure was also utilized for real water sample analysis.  相似文献

An analytical study on the use of graphite-epoxy composite (GEC) electrodes for differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) of heavy metals is presented. This study is accompanied by microscopic observations of the electrode surface before and after the stripping step in comparison to glassy carbon electrode. GEC electrodes show much better accumulation properties and consequently acceptable behaviour which makes them suitable as working electrodes in the DPASV of heavy metals. Lead determination in real water samples in a batch system as well as some preliminary results in a flow-through system are presented. The detection limits in batch measurements were 100ppb for Cd, 10pb for lead and 50ppb for copper. The detection limit for lead in the flow-through system was similar to that in the batch. The results obtained show that these low cost and easy to prepare materials can be of interest in future research concerning stripping techniques of heavy metals and other analytes.  相似文献

Sensitive and stable monitoring of heavy metals in seawater using screen-printed electrodes (SPE) is presented. The analytical performance of SPE coupled with square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) for the simultaneous determination of Pb and Cd in seawater samples, in the low μg L−1 range, is evaluated. The stripping response for the heavy metals following 2 min deposition was linear over the concentration range examined (10-2000 μg L−1) with detection limits of 1.8 and 2.9 μg L−1 for Pb and Cd, respectively. The accuracy of the method was validated by analyzing metal contents in different spiked seawater samples and comparing these results to those obtained with the well-established anodic stripping voltammetry using the hanging mercury drop electrode. Moreover, a certified reference material was also used and the results obtained were satisfactory.  相似文献

Abstract

A method is described for the reliable determination of copper, lead, cadmium and zinc in natural waters by anodic stripping potentiometry with the use of a novel combined electrode. The method involves two stripping cycles during which copper is initially determined on its own, followed by simultaneous determination of lead, cadmium and zinc after addition of gallium (III) ions. The optimum conditions include 0.01 M HCl as supporting electrolyte, 10 mg/L Hg (II) as chemical oxidant; Edep(Cu) -700 mV vs Ag/AgCl; Edep(Pb,Cd,Zn) -1200 mV vs Ag/AgCl; tdep 10s; 150 μg/L Ga (III); sample rotation rate 5 and rest period 30s. Under these conditions, as low as 0.06 μg/L Cu (0.7% RSD); 0.2 μg/L Pb (13% RSD); 0.04 μg/L Cd (7.8% RSD) and 0.06 μg/L Zn (5.5% RSD) can be determined reliably. A linear concentration range of 0–110 μg/L was obtained for the four metals. The successful application of the method to reference fresh water, creek water and tap water is demonstrated.  相似文献

This article reviews the use of square wave anodic stripping voltammetry for the simultaneous determination of ecotoxic metals (Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn) on a bismuth-film (BiFE) electrode. The BiFE was prepared in situ on a glassy-carbon electrode (GCE) from the 0.1 mol L?1 acetate buffer solution (pH 4.5) containing 200 µg L?1 of bismuth (III). The addition of hydrogen peroxide to the electroanalytical cell proved beneficial for the interference-free determination of Cu (II) together with zinc, lead, and cadmium, using the BiFE. The experimental variables were investigated and optimized with the view to apply this type of voltammetric sensor to real samples containing traces of these metals. The performance characteristics, such as reproducibility, decision limit (CCa), detection capability (CCβ), sensitivity, and accuracy indicated that the method holds promise for trace Cu2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ levels by employment of Hg-free GCE with SWASV. CCa, and CCβ were calculated according to the Commission Decision of 12 August 2002 (2002/657/EC). Linearity was observed in the range 20–280 µg L?1 for zinc, 10–100 µg L?1 for lead, 10–80 µg L?1 for copper, and 5–50 µg L?1 for cadmium. Using the optimized conditions, the stripping performance of the BiFE was characterized by low limits of detection (LOD). Finally, the method was successfully applied in real as well as in certified reference water samples.  相似文献
