Abstract

The protonation constants of pentaethylenehexaamineoctaacetic acid, PHOA, were determined by potentiometric titration in aqueous solution at an ionic strength of 0.10 M KNO3 and at 25°C. The formation constants of various metal-PHOA complexes were also obtained by titrating mixtures of metal to ligand in molar ratios of 1:1 and 2:1. Calculations were performed with the computer program BEST. Individual formation constants are reported for Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Pb(II) with PHOA as well as their related protonated species. The stabilities of the 1:1 and 2:1 complexes are similar in many respects to complexes formed with tetraethylenepentaamineheptaacetic acid (TPHA). The similarities in the stabilities of both the 1:1 and 2:1 complexes with PHOA and those with TPHA are explained in terms of ligand denticity and steric effects. Mercury(II)-PHOA complexes exhibited the highest formation constants, followed by copper(II)-PHOA complexes which had higher log K ML's than those for Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II).  相似文献

Abstract

The protonation constants of tetraethylenepentaamineheptaacetic acid, TPHA, were determined by potentiometric titration in aqueous solution at an ionic strength of 0.10 M KNO3 and at 25°C. The formation constants of various metal-TPHA complexes were also obtained by titrating mixtures of metal to ligand in molar ratios of 1 :1 and 2:1. Calculations were performed with the computer program BEST. Individual stability constants are reported for Co(II). Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Pb(II) with TPHA as well as their related pro-tonated species. The stabilities of the 1:1 complexes parallel to those of similar complexes with DTPA and TTHA. However the 2: 1 complexes have significantly larger log K ML's than their TTHA counterparts. The extra stability of the 2:1 metal-TPHA complexes is explained in terms of ligand denticity and steric effects. Mercury(II)-TPHA complexes exhibited the highest formation constants and the copper-TPHA complexes had slightly higher log K ML's than those for Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II).  相似文献

Divalent metal complexes of N,N′-bis(4-imidazolymethyl)etylenediamine (EMI) have been studied using potentiometric and spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis and NMR methods) in aqueous 0.1 mol⋅L−1 KCl supporting electrolyte at 25 °C. Final models and overall stability constants for the complexes of Ca(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Mg(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) have been established by potentiometry for all M(II)–EMI systems, except for Co(II)–EMI. The data revealed that EMI forms ML complexes with all M(II)–EMI systems, which is the dominant species over a wide range of pH except for the Ca(II)–EMI and Mg(II)–EMI systems. Formation of the MnHL complex was also found for Mn(II)–EMI solutions. In addition, the UV-Vis and 1H NMR results allowed us establish the coordination modes for the metal complexes between EMI with Cd(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II).  相似文献

Metal complexes of some divalent metal ions (Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Hg, and Pd) with isatin-β-thiosemicarbazone (ITS) as the Schiff base have been investigated potentiometrically and spectrophotometrically. The dissociation constants of the ligand and formation constants of the metal complexes, as well as the corresponding thermodynamic functions (ΔG, ΔH and ΔS) have been determined at different temperatures in ethanol—water solution. The full stability constants were also evaluated spectrophotometrically by the Job method. The experimental results indicate that Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), and Hg(II) form one-to-one molecular complexes (ML) with the studied ligand, whereas Co(II) and Ni(II) form both ML and ML2 species.  相似文献

The stepwise formation constants of N-antipyrinyl-N′-3-phenyl-2-propenoyl-thiourea (I) complexes with metal ions of the first transition series, Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Zn(II) have been determined in 70% (V/V) ethanol-water medium. The formation constants for the chelates follow the Irving-Williams series: Zn(II)<Cu(II)>Ni(II)>Co(II)>Mn(II) The effect of ionic radius and electronegativity on the chelate formation are discussed. Complexes of Cu(II) and Ni(II) have been synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, electrolytic conductance, IR spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The ligand forms bis-complexes with Cu(II) and Ni(II). The binding sites are oxygen and sulphur atoms.  相似文献

Protonation constant of an unsymmetrical Schiff base, salicylidene(N-benzoyl)glycyl hydrazone (SalBzGH), and formation constants of its complexes have been determined potentiometrically at different temperatures in aqueous dioxane medium. Complexes of SalBzGH with VO(IV), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) have been prepared. Elemental analyses, pH-metric, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, electronic, IR, ESR, XRD (powder) and NMR studies have been carried out to study the coordination behaviour of SalBzGH toward these metal ions. pH-metric and 1H NMR studies show the presence of two dissociable protons in the ligand. IR and NMR spectra suggest the tridentate nature of the ligand, coordinating as a uninegative species in the Mn(II) complex and as a dinegative species in all the other complexes. Presence of two different conformers of the ligand at room temperature and stabilization of a single conformer upon complex formation have been established from1H NMR spectra of the metal-free ligand, Zn(II) and Hg(II) complexes recorded at 296 K. Electronic and ESR spectra indicate highly distorted tetragonal geometry for VO(IV) and Cu(II) complexes. XRD powder patterns of the Zn(II) complexes are indexed for an orthorhombic crystal system.  相似文献

A study of the complexes originated by U(VI), Cu(II), Pb(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Mn(II), Ca(II), Mg(II), Ba(II), and Sr(II), and SPADNS (trisodium salt of 2-(p-sulfophenylazo)-1, 8-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid) has been made by means of spectrophotometric and potentiometric methods. The dissociation constants of the ligand and the formation constants of the metal ion-SPADNS complexes have been determined at 25 ± 0.1 °C and ionic strength 0.1 (NaClO4).  相似文献

The divalent metal complexes of Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mg, Cd and Pb with 3-phenyl-4-benzoyl-5-isoxazolone (HPBI) have been prepared for the first time. The complexes were characterized by utilizing elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, i.r. and proton NMR spectral studies. For the transition metal complexes the MO stretching frequencies show good agreement with the Irwing—Williams stability order: Cu > Ni > Co > Zn > Mn.  相似文献

The formation of complexes of Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), and Pb(II) and N-carboxymethyl-D,L-threonine (H2CMT, H2L) in aqueous solutions has been studied by spectrophotometric and potentiometric methods. The complexation model for each system has been established by the HYPERQUAD program from the potentiometric data. Three different behaviors are found: ML2H, MLH, ML, MLOH, and ML2 complexes are formed by Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions, ML2H, ML, MLOH, and ML2 are formed by Hg(II) ion, and only 1/1 complexes MLH, ML, and MLOH are formed by the Pb(II) ion. The formation constants determined for all these complexes allow simulation of experimental titration curves with good agreement. The speciation of multimetal systems with H2CMT shows that this compound is a good and selective ligand at low pH for the Hg(II) ion.  相似文献

A new series of transition metal complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), VO(IV), Hg(II) and Cd(II) have been synthesized from the Schiff base (L) derived from 4-aminoantipyrine, 3-hydroxy-4-nitrobenzaldehyde and o-phenylenediamine. Structural features were obtained from their elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, mass, IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR and ESR spectral studies. The data show that these complexes have composition of ML type. The UV-Vis, magnetic susceptibility and ESR spectral data of the complexes suggest a square-planar geometry around the central metal ion except VO(IV) complex which has square-pyramidal geometry. The redox behaviour of copper and vanadyl complexes was studied by cyclic voltammetry. Antimicrobial screening tests gave good results in the presence of metal ion in the ligand system. The nuclease activity of the above metal complexes shows that Cu, Ni and Co complexes cleave DNA through redox chemistry whereas other complexes are not effective.  相似文献

Conditions for the preparation of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) 4-methylphthalates were investigated and their composition, solubility in water at 295 K and magnetic moments were determined. IR spectra and powder diffraction patterns of the complexes prepared with molar ratio of metal to organic ligand of 1.0:1.0 and general formula: M [ CH3C6H3(CO2)2nH2o (n=1-3) were recorded and their decomposition in air were studied. During heating the hydrated complexes are dehydrated in one (Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd) or two steps (Cu) and next the anhydrous complexes decompose to oxides directly (Cu, Zn), with intermediate formation of carbonates (Mn, Cd), oxocarbonates (Ni) or carbonate and free metal (Co). The carboxylate groups in the complexes studied are mono- and bidentate (Co, Ni), bidentate chelating and bridging (Zn) or bidentate chelating (Mn, Cu, Cd). The magnetic moments for paramagnetic complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) attain values 5.92, 5.05, 3.36 and 1.96 M.B., respectively. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The formation constants of 1: 1 and 1: 2 complexes between Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Pb(II), Cu(II), Ba(II), Mg(II), Mn(II), Th(IV), and UO2 (II) metal ions and 2-phenyl-3-(2′-hydroxy-5′-methylbenzylidine)-quinazoline-4-(3H)-one [PHBMeQ] were determined potentiometrically at 30 ± 0.1 °C and different ionic strengths (0.025, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20 M NaNO3) in 60: 40 (v/v) alcohol-water solutions. The proton-ligand and metal-ligand formation constants were determined pH-metrically by the Calvin-Bjerrum titration technique. The order of stability constants was found. The negative ΔG° values suggest that the reactions occur spontaneously. Correlations between the log K 1 values and some fundamental central metal ion properties are discussed.  相似文献

The dynamic adsorption and desorption properties, including the effect of pH value and flow rate on the adsorption, eluent acidity and volume, eluting velocity and re-use, of Cu(II), Pb(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Mn(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Hg(II) ions on the column loaded with poly(acrylaminophosphonic-carboxyl-hydrazide) chelating fiber were investigated. The recovery of Mn(II), Co(II), Cd(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) ions in the presence of Na, K, Ca and Mg ions was examined. The preconcentration of trace amounts of Mn(II), Co(II), Cd(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) ions from model solution samples was carried out with satisfactory results. The amount of the metal ions detected after preconcentration and recovery by this technique was basically in agreement with the added amount. The method is rapid, precise and simple. A compartment ligand 2,6-bis[5′-chloro-3′-phenyl-1H-indole-2′-carboxamidyliminomethyl]-4-methylphenol was prepared and homobinuclear phenol-bridged Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Fe(III), and Mn(II) complexes have been prepared by the template method using the precursors 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol, 5-chloro-3-phenylindole-2-carbohydrazide and metal chlorides in 1 : 2 : 2 ratio, respectively. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, magnetic susceptibility data, IR, NMR, FAB mass and ESR spectra, TGA, and powder XRD data. Cu(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes exhibit square pyramidal geometry whereas Ni(II), Mn(II), and Fe(III) complexes are octahedral. Low magnetic moment values for Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(III), and Mn(II) complexes show antiferromagnetic spin-exchange interaction between two metal centers in binuclear complexes. The ligand and its complexes were tested for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphyloccocus aureus, and antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans.  相似文献

The distribution patterns and the organ-specific accumulation trends of 10 trace metals (iron, manganese, zinc, copper, chromium, nickel, cobalt, lead, cadmium and silver) and 4 major elements (sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium) in 10 different tissues (heart, muscle, kidney, stomach, intestine, liver, gill, gonads, white skin and dark skin) of a benthic fish species (Solea senegalensis) from a densely populated coastal area affected by anthropogenic activities, the Bay of Cadiz (SW Spain), have been investigated. High variability of metal concentrations among tissues were found for Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu, Pb and Ag. Factor analysis was applied to study this variability. Five principal components were found explaining the 92.95% of the total variance and similarities in behavioural patterns of bioaccumulation were described. They associated Mg, Cr, Ni and Mn to intestine and stomach tissues (PC1), Ag, Cu and Cd to liver (PC2), Zn, K and Co to gonads (PC3), Na, Fe and Pb to gill, heart and kidney tissues (PC4) and Ca, Pb and Mn to gill and dark skin (PC5). The metallic concentration in the sediment and water was also studied. The pollution in this area was found moderate with outstanding values of Zn, Cu and Pb (average values of 139, 50.4 and 75.6?mg?kg?1, respectively) in sediment and dissolved Cu (average value of 2.5?µg?L?1). Metal bioconcentration trends followed the order Zn?>?Cu?>?Cd?>?Pb for dissolved metals in seawater, Cu?>?Zn?>?Cd?>?Pb?≈?Mn?>?Fe?≈?Ni?≈?Co for metals associated to particulate matter and Zn?≈?Cu?>?Cd?>?Mn?>?Co?≈?Fe?>?Ni?≈?Pb?>?Cr for metals in the sediment. Higher values were found for copper in liver, zinc in gonads and lead in gill, showing the relationship between biotic and abiotic environment. In addition, Cd bioconcentration factors were found high in liver and gill showing the sensitivity of sole to this metal even at low concentrations.  相似文献

Summary The interaction of Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Pb(II), Al(III), and UO2(II) ions with tetracycline (TC) were studied by potentiometricpH titrations. The formation constants of the different binary complexes formed in such systems have been determined at 25±0.1°C and =0.1 moll–1 (NaNO3). PotentiometricpH equilibrium measurements have been made under the same conditions for the interaction of oxytetracycline (OTC) and Cu(II), Cd(II), Pb(II), and UO2(II). The formation of (1:1) binary complexes are inferred from the potentiometricpH tritration curves. The protonation constants ofTC andOTC were also determined under the same conditions and refined (ESAB2M computer program). The transition metal stability constants are consistent with the Irving-Williams series.

The dissociation constants of carminic acid (7-D-glucopyronosyl-3,5,6,8-tetra- hydroxy-1-methyl-9,10-dioxo-anthracene-2-carboxylic acid) (CA), together with the stability constants of its Cu(II), Zn(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Hg(II) complexes, were studied potentiometrically in aqueous medium at 25.0?(1)?°C, and at the ionic background of 0.1?mol?dm?3 of NaCl, and determined with the SUPERQUAD computer program. It has been observed that carminic acid has five dissociation constants, and for H5L their values are 3.39?(7), 5.78?(7), 8.35?(7), 10.27?(7), and 11.51?(7). This ligand behaves as a bi-dentate ligand, and the carboxyl and the ortho hydroxy groups of the ligand coordinate to the metal ions. Various metal complexes were produced in solution under the experimental conditions, for each metal ion used, including hydrolyzed species. The species distribution curves of the complexes formed in the solution were calculated and reviewed. The stability of the complexes was found to follow the order: Cu(II) > Zn(II) > Ni(II) > Co(II) > Hg(II).  相似文献
