We evaluate, in a model-independent way, the signal-to-background ratio for Higgs detection in exclusive double-diffractive events at the Tevatron and the LHC. For the missing-mass approach to be able to identify the Higgs boson, it will be necessary to use a central jet detector and to tag b quark jets. The signal is predicted to be very small at the Tevatron, but observable at the LHC. However we note that the background, that is double-diffractive dijet production, may serve as a unique gluon factory. We also give estimates for the double-diffractive production of and mesons at the Tevatron. We emphasize that a high-resolution missing-mass measurement, on its own, is insufficient to identify rare processes. Results for the complete NLO electroweak corrections to Standard Model Higgs production via gluon fusion are included in the total cross section for hadronic collisions. Artificially large threshold effects are avoided working in the complex-mass scheme. The numerical impact at LHC (Tevatron) energies is explored for Higgs mass values up to 500 GeV (200 GeV). Assuming a complete factorization of the electroweak corrections, one finds a +5% shift with respect to the NNLO QCD cross section for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV both at the LHC and the Tevatron. Adopting two different factorization schemes for the electroweak effects, an estimate of the corresponding total theoretical uncertainty is computed.  相似文献

Motivated by new models of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking that predict a light composite Higgs boson, we build an effective Lagrangian which describes the standard model (with a light Higgs) and vector resonances. We compute the cross section for the associate production of a Higgs and a gauge boson. For some values of model parameters we find that the cross section is significantly enhanced with respect to the standard model. This enhancement is similar at the LHC (large hadron collider) and the Tevatron for the same range of resonance mass. PACS 12.60.Nz  相似文献

This paper considers the decay of a standard model Higgs boson into a tau pair, as a possible signature at the SSC or LHC for a Higgs boson of mass between 110 and 160 GeV. The production of the Higgs in association with a large transverse momentum jet is considered, since this may aid in reconstructing the Higgs mass. The background from the production of tau pairs via virtual photons and Z's is studied. We comment on the possible use of this process to search for a light Higgs at the Tevatron collider.  相似文献

Higgs boson (H) production in proton-proton collisions via the mechanism of gluon-gluon fusion is considered within the QCD semihard (k T-factorization) approach. Results are presented that were obtained by calculating the total and differential cross sections for inclusive Higgs boson production in \(p\bar p \to H + X\) processes at the Tevatron collider and LHC energies. It is shown that, even in the leading order, the QCD semihard approach makes it possible to study processes involving the associated production of Higgs bosons and one or two hadron jets. Various azimuthal correlations arising in such processes between the transverse momenta of final particles are analyzed. The dependence of all calculated quantities on the choice of unintegrated gluon distribution in the proton is examined.  相似文献

New theoretical and experimental information motivates a re-examination of the Standard Model Higgs production rates at the LHC pp collider. We present calculations of the relevant cross sections and branching ratios, including recently calculated QCD next-to-leading order corrections, new parton distributions fitted to recent HERA structure function data, and new values for electroweak input parameters, in particular for the top quark mass. Cross sections are calculated at two collider energies, √s = 10 TeV and 14 TeV.  相似文献

In the littlest Higgs Model with T-parity,we discuss the Higgs production in association with bottom quarks at the LHC and future electron-positron collider. We calculate the cross sections of production channels pp→bb H,bb→H and bg→b H at 14 Te V LHC and the cross sections of production channel e~+e~-→bb H in(un)polarized beams at the lowest order. In order to investigate the observability,we display some typical final state distributions in the Higgs to diphoton channel.  相似文献

A critical comparison is made between recent predictions of the cross sections for diffractive Higgs production at the Tevatron and the LHC. We show that the huge spread of the predictions arises either because different diffractive processes are studied or because important effects are overlooked. Exclusive production offers a reliable, viable Higgs signal at the LHC provided that proton taggers are installed. The impact of the fourth Standard Model family on Higgs boson search at Tevatron and LHC is reviewed. The enhancement due to a fourth SM family in the production of Higgs boson via gluon fusion already enables the Tevatron experiments to become sensitive to Higgs masses between 140 and 200 GeV and could increase this sensitivity up to about 300 GeV until the LHC is in shape. The same effect could enable the LHC running even at 7 TeV center of mass energy to scan Higgs masses between 200 and 300 GeV only with a few hundred pb?1 of integrated luminosity.  相似文献

The Higgs boson search has shifted from LEP2 to the Tevatron and will subsequently move to the LHC. The current limits from the Tevatron and the prospective sensitivities at the LHC are often interpreted in specific MSSM scenarios. For heavy Higgs boson production and subsequent decay into or τ+τ, the present Tevatron data allow one to set limits in the MA–tan β plane for small MA and large tan β values. Similar channels have been explored for the LHC, where the discovery reach extends to higher values of MA and smaller tan β. Searches for MSSM charged Higgs bosons, produced in top decays or in association with top quarks, have also been investigated at the Tevatron and the LHC. We analyze the current Tevatron limits and prospective LHC sensitivities. We discuss how robust they are with respect to variations of the other MSSM parameters and possible improvements of the theoretical predictions for Higgs boson production and decay. It is shown that the inclusion of supersymmetric radiative corrections to the production cross sections and decay widths leads to important modifications of the present limits on the MSSM parameter space. The impact on the region where only the lightest MSSM Higgs boson can be detected at the LHC is also analyzed. We propose to extend the existing benchmark scenarios by including additional values of the higgsino mass parameter μ. This affects only slightly the search channels for a SM-like Higgs boson, while having a major impact on the searches for non-standard MSSM Higgs bosons.  相似文献

We compute the cross section for exclusive double-diffractive production at the Tevatron, , and the LHC. We evaluate both the gg and -channel exchange contributions to the process. The observation of exclusive production at the Tevatron will provide a check on the model predictions and offer an opportunity to confirm the expectations for exclusive double-diffractive Higgs production at the LHC.Received: 10 September 2004, Revised: 8 October 2004, Published online: 1 December 2004  相似文献

Novel contributions to the total inclusive cross section for Higgs-Strahlung in the Standard Model at hadron colliders are evaluated. Although formally of order as2\alpha_{s}^{2}, they have not been taken into account in previous NNLO predictions. The terms under consideration are induced by Higgs radiation off top-quark loops and thus proportional to the top-quark Yukawa coupling. At the Tevatron, their effects to WH production are below 1% in the relevant Higgs mass range, while for ZH production, we find corrections between about 1% and 2%. At the LHC, the contribution of the newly evaluated terms to the cross section is typically of the order of 1%–3%. Based on these results, we provide updated predictions for the total inclusive Higgs-Strahlung cross section at the Tevatron and the LHC.  相似文献

We propose a new variable, Rj, in order to identify exclusive double-diffractive high ET di-jet production. The variable Rj is calculated using the transverse energy ET and pseudorapidity of the jet with the largest ET. For a purely exclusive event the value of Rj→1, if we were to neglect hadronisaton and the detector resolution effects. To illustrate the expected Rj distribution we also compute exclusive three-jet production; and, moreover, we include jet smearing effects. By studying the predictions as a function of the size of the rapidity interval, δη, which allows for additional gluon radiation, one can probe the QCD radiation effects which are responsible for the Sudakov suppression of the exclusive amplitude. In this way we may check and improve the formalism used to predict the cross sections of exclusive double-diffractive Higgs boson (and/or other new physics) production.  相似文献

We calculate the leading electroweak corrections to the light neutral Higgs boson production via qq → WH at the Fermilab Tevatron in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric model, which arise from the top-quark and Higgs boson loop diagrams. We found that the leading electroweak corrections can exceed the QCD corrections for favorable values of the parameters in the MSSM, but such corrections are only about -2%~-4% in the SM, which are much smaller than the QCD corrections. For the mass region of 90 < mh, < 120 GeV, the leading electroweak corrections can reach -20% for large tan β, and these corrections may be observable at a high luminosity Tevatron; at the least, new constraints on the tan β can be established.  相似文献

A new QCD calculation is summarized for the transverse momentum distribution of photon pairs produced by QCD subprocesses, including all-orders soft-gluon resummation valid at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Resummation is needed to obtain reliable predictions in the range of transverse momentum where the cross-section is the largest. Results are compared with data from the Fermilab Tevatron and predictions are made for the large hadron collider. The QCD continuum is shown to have a softer spectrum than the Higgs boson signal at the LHC.   相似文献

We study the theoretical accuracy of various methods that have been proposed to measure the luminosity of the LHC pp collider, as well as for Run II of the Tevatron collider. In particular we consider methods based on (i) the total and forward elastic data, (ii) lepton-pair production and (iii) W and Z production. We present a complete analysis of threshold resummation effects on direct light and heavy gaugino pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. Based on a new perturbative calculation at next-to-leading order of SUSY-QCD, which includes also squark mixing effects, we resum soft gluon radiation in the threshold region at leading and next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, retaining at the same time the full SUSY-QCD corrections in the finite coefficient function. This allows us to correctly match the resummed to the perturbative cross section. Universal subleading logarithms are resummed in full matrix form. We find that threshold resummation slightly increases and considerably stabilizes the invariant mass spectra and total cross sections with respect to the next-to-leading order calculation. For future reference, we present total cross sections and their theoretical errors in tabular form for several commonly used SUSY benchmark points, gaugino pairs, and hadron collider energies.  相似文献

Using the data collected with the D0 detector at square root(s) = 1.96 TeV, for integrated luminosities of about 180 pb(-1), we have measured the ratio of inclusive cross sections for pp --> Z + b jet to pp --> Z + jet production. The inclusive Z + b-jet reaction is an important background to searches for the Higgs boson in associated ZH production at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Our measurement is the first of its kind, and relies on the Z --> e+ e- and Z --> mu+ mu- modes. The combined measurement of the ratio yields 0.021+/-0.005 for hadronic jets with transverse momenta pT > 20 GeV/c and pseudorapidities absolute value(eta) < 2.5, consistent with next-to-leading-order predictions of the standard model.  相似文献
