A certain class of exact solutions of Einstein Maxwell spacetime in general relativity is discussed to demonstrate that at the level of theory, when certain parametric resonance condition is met, the interaction of electromagnetic field with a gravitational wave will display certain Lyapunov instability and lead to exponential amplification of a gravitational wave train described by certain Newman–Penrose component of the Weyl curvature. We investigate the evolution of the phase space density (PSD) of ring current protons induced by electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves at the location L=3.5, calculate the diffusion coefficients in pitch angle and momentum, and solve the standard two-dimensional Fokker-Planck diffusion equation. The pitch angle diffusion coefficient is found to be larger than the momentum diffusion coefficient by a factor of about 103 or above at lower pitch angles. We show that EMIC waves can produce efficient pitch angle scattering of energetic (- 100 keV) protons, yielding a rapid decrement in PSD, typically by a factor of - 10 within a few hours, consistent with observational data. This result further supports previous findings that wave-particle interaction is responsible for the rapid ring current decay.  相似文献

The stability of electromagnetic ion cyclotron harmonic waves propagating normal to an external magnetic field is studied for plasmas whose ions possess loss cone type velocity distributions. It is found that, if the ions are stationary, no instability develops except in the extreme case when the ratio of parallel to perpendicular "temperatures" of the ions is of the order mi/me, where mi and me are the ion and electron masses respectively. However, for the case of two counterstreaming ion beams in a neutralizing background of electrons, instability at zero frequency and near the first several ion cyclotron harmonics can occur if the streaming velocity is of the order of the electron thermal speed.  相似文献

We present a study on the gyroresonant interaction particles in multi-ion (H^+, He^+, and O^+) plasmas between electromagnetic ion cyclotron waves and ring current We provide a first evaluation of the bounce-averaged pitch angle diffusion coefficient 〈Dαα〉 for three typical energies of 50, 100 and 150keV at L ≈ 3.5, the heart of the symmetrical ring current. We show that in the H^+-band and He^+-band, 〈Dαα〉 can approach - 10^-4 s^-1 for ion H^+, and - 5 × 10^-5 s^-1 /or ion He^+; meanwhile, in the O^+-band, 〈Dαα〉 can reach - 10^-5 s^-1 for ions He^+ and O^+. The results above show that the EMIC wave can efficiently produce precipitation loss of energetic (- 100 keV) ions (H^+, He^+ and even O^+), and such a wave tends to be a serious candidate responsible for the ring current decay.  相似文献

Recently, laser and microwave scatterings have become one of the important diagnostic means for plasma. Laser and microwave correlative scattering spectrum is determined by particle-density fluctuations in a weak turbulent plasma. In a relativistic plasma, on the basis of complete electromagnetic interaction between particles, a general expression for particle density fluctuations and spectra of laser and microwave scattering from a magnetized plasma are derived. The laser and microwave scattering spectra provide information on electron density and temperature, ion temperature, resonance and nonresonance effects.  相似文献

Using the method of auxiliary sources, we solve the problem of electromagnetic-wave scattering by structures composed of a finite number of three-dimensional perfectly conducting bodies, some of which are thin wires. The capabilities of the developed software package is briefly described. We present some results of numerical calculations aimed at analyzing the influence of three-dimensional bodies placed near thin wires on the current distributions along these wires.  相似文献

A modified Korteweg-de Vries equation in a two-dimensional space comprising the externla magnetic field and the direction normal to a density gradient is derived for a plasma consisting of warm ion fluid (?i = 3) and nonisothermal electrons (?e > 1). We show how to construct discrete Maxwell equations by discrete exterior calculus. The new scheme has many virtues compared to the traditional Yee's scheme: it is a multisymplectic scheme and keeps geometric properties. Moreover, it can be applied on triangular mesh and thus is more adaptive to handle domains with irregular shapes. We have implemented this scheme on a Java platform successfully and our experimental results show that this scheme works well.  相似文献

We present a new detecting scheme of high-frequency gravitational waves (HFGWs) in the GHz band, the scheme consists of a high-quality-factor open microwave cavity, a static magnetic field passing through the cavity and an electromagnetic (EM) normal mode stored in the cavity. It is found that under the resonant condition first- and second-order perturbation EM effects have almost the same detecting sensitivity to the HFGWs in the GHz band (h ~10^-26, v~5GHz), but the former contains more information from the HFGWs. We also provide a very brief review for possible improving way of the sensitivity. This scheme would be highly complementary to other schemes of detecting the HFGWs.  相似文献

Although most experiments in complex plasmas correspond to non‐linear grain screening, the theoretical models of non‐linear screening have not been checked experimentally. Scattering of electromagnetic waves on a single nonlinearly screened dust grain in plasmas can serve as one of effective methods for investigation of non‐linear screening. In present paper we have developed a theory for electromagnetic wave scattering that includes both the effect of coherency of scattering for long wave range and the loss of coherency with a decrease of the wave length. It is valid for arbitrary non‐linearity in screening and demonstrates that the loss of coherency occurs for wave length less then the characteristic screening length for non‐linear screening being usually substantially larger than the linear Debye screening length. The effect is illustrated numerically using the most popular model of non‐linear screening. The dependence of the cross‐section of scattering on parameter of non‐linearity in screening is calculated numerically. The loss of coherency in scattering by a single grain can serve as effective diagnostic for checking the theoretical models of non‐linear screening. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper we consider the plasma maser theory of whistler waves in the presence of ion cyclotron waves in a magnetized plasma. In a plasma with low frequency ion cyclotron turbulence and a high frequency test whistler wave, growth of the whistler wave takes place because of the turbulent bremsstrahlung interaction between the resonant electrons and the modulated electric fields. We construct a realistic model to evaluate the chorus wave-particle interaction in the outer radiation belt L = 4.5. This model incorporates a plasmatrough number density model, a field-aligned density model and a realistic wave power and frequency model. We solve the 2D bounce-averaged momentum-pitch-angle Fokker-Planck equation and show that the Whistler-mode chorus can be effective in the acceleration of electrons, and enhance the phase space density for energies of -1 MeV by a factor from 10 to 10^3 in about two days, consistent with the observation. We also demonstrate that ignorance of the electron number density variation along field line and magnetic local time in the previous work yields an overestimate of energetic electron phase space density by a factor 5-10 at large pitch-angle after two days, suggesting that a realistic plasma density model is very important to evaluate the evolution of energetic electrons in the outer radiation belt.  相似文献

The low energy scattering of electrons by sodium at incident energies up to ionization threshold are calculated by applying the momentum space coupled-channel-optical (CCO) method. The present results are in good agreement with the previous experimental and theoretical results. Using the single electron model, the acceleration of electrons in combined circularly polarized intense laser fields and the spontaneous quasistatic fields (including axial and azimuthal magnetic fields, the axial and transverse electric fields) produced in intense laser plasma interaction is investigated analytically and numerically by fitting the proper parameters of the quasistatic fields based on the data from the experiment and numerical calculation. A new resonant condition is given. It is found that the resonance acceleration of electron depends not only on laser field, but also on the bounce frequency oscillating in the quasistatic magnetic field and electric field. The net energy gained by electron does not increase monotonously with axial electric field, but there are some optimal axial electric fields.  相似文献
