We study the K-theory of unital C*-algebras A satisfying the condition that all irreducible representations are finite and of some bounded dimension. We construct computational tools, but show that K-theory is far from being able to distinguish between various interesting examples. For example, when the algebra A is n-homogeneous, i.e., all irreducible representations are exactly of dimension n, then K*(A) is the topological K-theory of a related compact Hausdorff space, this generalises the classical Gelfand-Naimark theorem, but there are many inequivalent homogeneous algebras with the same related topological space. For general A we give a spectral sequence computing K*(A) from a sequence of topological K-theories of related spaces. For A generated by two idempotents, this becomes a 6-term long exact sequence.  相似文献

Let K(n) be the nth Morava K-theory at a prime p, and let T(n) be the telescope of a vn-self map of a finite complex of type n. In this paper we study the K(n)*-homology of ΩX, the 0th space of a spectrum X, and many related matters. We give a sampling of our results.Let PX be the free commutative S-algebra generated by X: it is weakly equivalent to the wedge of all the extended powers of X. We define the Volodin hermitian algebraic K-theory for a (discrete) ring with an involution and show that it is isomorphic to Karoubi's hermitian algebraic K-theory. We also construct the Volodin model X(R *) of hermitian algebraic K-theory for a simplicial ring R * and show that it is a homotopy fiber of the map B Ô(R *)B Ô(R *)+. We also prove the general linear version of this result, which has been claimed in the existing literature, but whose proof was overlooked.  相似文献

We show that for a field k of characteristic p, H i (k,ℤ(n)) is uniquely p-divisible for in (we use higher Chow groups as our definition of motivic cohomology). This implies that the natural map K n M (k)?K n (k) from Milnor K-theory to Quillen K-theory is an isomorphism up to uniquely p-divisible groups, and that K n M (k) and K n (k) are p-torsion free. As a consequence, one can calculate the K-theory mod p of smooth varieties over perfect fields of characteristic p in terms of cohomology of logarithmic de Rham Witt sheaves, for example K n (X,ℤ/p r )=0 for n>dimX. Another consequence is Gersten’s conjecture with finite coefficients for smooth varieties over discrete valuation rings with residue characteristic p. As the last consequence, Bloch’s cycle complexes localized at p satisfy all Beilinson-Lichtenbaum-Milne axioms for motivic complexes, except possibly the vanishing conjecture. Given anm-tempered strongly continuous action α of ℝ by continuous*-automorphisms of a Frechet*-algebraA, it is shown that the enveloping ↡-C *-algebraE(S(ℝ, A, α)) of the smooth Schwartz crossed productS(ℝ,A , α) of the Frechet algebra A of C-elements ofA is isomorphic to the Σ-C *-crossed productC *(ℝ,E(A), α) of the enveloping Σ-C *-algebraE(A) ofA by the induced action. WhenA is a hermitianQ-algebra, one getsK-theory isomorphismRK *(S(ℝ, A, α)) =K *(C *(ℝ,E(A), α) for the representableK-theory of Frechet algebras. An application to the differential structure of aC *-algebra defined by densely defined differential seminorms is given.  相似文献

We show that the Strong Novikov Conjecture for the maximal C*-algebra C*(π) of a discrete group π is equivalent to a statement in topological K-theory for which the corresponding statement in algebraic K-theory is always true. We also show that for any group π, rational injectivity of the full assembly map for K*t(C*(π)) follows from rational injectivity of the restricted assembly map. (Received: February 2006)  相似文献

The extension of Kasparovs bivariant K-theory to inverse limits of C * -algebras admits exact Puppe sequences in both variables. Two exact sequences generalizing Milnor's lim-lim1 sequences are established. For CW complexes the extended K-theory is representable K-theory.  相似文献

In the spirit of “The Fundamental Theorem for the algebraic K-theory of spaces: I” (J. Pure Appl. Algebra 160 (2001) 21–52) we introduce a category of sheaves of topological spaces on n-dimensional projective space and present a calculation of its K-theory, a “non-linear” analogue of Quillen's isomorphism Ki(PRn)0nKi(R).  相似文献

Let (G, I, N, S) be an affine topological Tits system, and let Γ be a torsion-free cocompact lattice in G. This article studies the coinvariants H 0(Γ; C(Ω,Z)), where Ω is the Furstenberg boundary of G. It is shown that the class [1] of the identity function in H 0(Γ; C(Ω, Z)) has finite order, with explicit bounds for the order. A similar statement applies to the K 0 group of the boundary crossed product C *-algebra C(Ω)Γ. If the Tits system has type ? 2, exact computations are given, both for the crossed product algebra and for the reduced group C *-algebra.  相似文献

For natural numbers r,s,q,m,n with srq we determine all natural functions g: T *(J (r,s,q)(Y, R 1,1)0)*R for any fibered manifold Y with m-dimensional base and n-dimensional fibers. For natural numbers r,s,m,n with sr we determine all natural functions g: T *(J (r,s) (Y, R)0)*R for any Y as above.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove that if R is the ring of integers in a number field F, A any R-order in a semisimple F-algebra, then K2n(A), G2n(A) are finite groups for all positive integers n. Hence, even dimensional higher K- and G-groups of integral grouprings of finite groups are finite. We also show that in odd dimensions, SKn of integral and p-adic integral grouprings of finite p-groups are also finite p-groups (Received: August 2005)  相似文献

Let X be a connected based space and p be a two-regular prime number. If the fundamental group of X has order p, we compute the two-primary homotopy groups of the homotopy fiber of the trace map A(X) → TC(X) relating algebraic K-theory of spaces to topological cyclic homology. The proof uses a theorem of Dundas and an explicit calculation of the cyclotomic trace map K(ℤ[Cp])→ TC(ℤ[Cp]).  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new method for manufacturing harmonic morphisms from semi-Riemannian manifolds. This is employed to yield a variety of new examples from the compact Lie groups SO(n), SU(n) and Sp(n) equipped with their standard Riemannian metrics. We develop a duality principle and show how this can be used to construct the first known examples of harmonic morphisms from the non-compact Lie groups , SU *(2n), , SO *(2n), SO(p, q), SU(p, q) and Sp(p, q) equipped with their standard dual semi-Riemannian metrics.   相似文献

In this paper, we show that Goodwillie calculus, as applied to functors from stable homotopy to itself, interacts in striking ways with chromatic aspects of the stable category. Localized at a fixed prime p, let T(n) be the telescope of a vn self map of a finite S–module of type n. The Periodicity Theorem of Hopkins and Smith implies that the Bousfield localization functor associated to T(n)* is independent of choices. Goodwillies general theory says that to any homotopy functor F from S–modules to S–modules, there is an associated tower under F, {PdF}, such that FPdF is the universal arrow to a d–excisive functor. Our first main theorem says that PdFPd-1F always admits a homotopy section after localization with respect to T(n)* (and so also after localization with respect to Morava K–theory K(n)*). Thus, after periodic localization, polynomial functors split as the product of their homogeneous factors. This theorem follows from our second main theorem which is equivalent to the following: for any finite group G, the Tate spectrum is weakly contractible. This strengthens and extends previous theorems of Greenlees–Sadofsky, Hovey–Sadofsky, and Mahowald–Shick. The Periodicity Theorem is used in an essential way in our proof. The connection between the two theorems is via a reformulation of a result of McCarthy on dual calculus. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000) 55P65, 55N22, 55P60, 55P91  相似文献

It is shown that an n × n matrix of continuous linear maps from a pro-C^*-algebra A to L(H), which verifies the condition of complete positivity, is of the form [V^*TijФ(·)V]^n i,where Ф is a representation of A on a Hilbert space K, V is a bounded linear operator from H to K, and j=1,[Tij]^n i,j=1 is a positive element in the C^*-algebra of all n×n matrices over the commutant of Ф(A) in L(K). This generalizes a result of C. Y.Suen in Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 112(3), 1991, 709-712. Also, a covariant version of this construction is given.  相似文献

We apply the recently proven compatibility of Beilinson and Soulé elements in K-theory to investigate density of rational primes p, for which the reduction map K 2n+1() K{2n+1}(Fp)is nontrivial. Here n is an even, positive integer and Fp denotes the field of p elements. In the proof we use arithmetic of cyclotomic numbers which come from Soulé elements. Divisibility properties of the numbers are related to the Vandiver conjecture on the class group of cyclotomic fields. Using the K-theory of the integers, we compute an upper bound on the divisibility of these cyclotomic numbers.  相似文献

We define united K-theory for real C*-algebras, generalizing Bousfield's topological united K-theory. United K-theory incorporates three functors – real K-theory, complex K-theory, and self-conjugate K-theory – and the natural transformations among them. The advantage of united K-theory over ordinary K-theory lies in its homological algebraic properties, which allow us to construct a Künneth-type, nonsplitting, short exact sequence whose middle term is the united K-theory of the tensor product of two real C*-algebras A and B which holds as long as the complexification of A is in the bootstrap category . Since united K-theory contains ordinary K-theory, our sequence provides a way to compute the K-theory of the tensor product of two real C*-algebras. As an application, we compute the united K-theory of the tensor product of two real Cuntz algebras. Unlike in the complex case, it turns out that the isomorphism class of the tensor product is not determined solely by the greatest common divisor of K and l. Hence, we have examples of nonisomorphic, simple, purely infinite, real C*-algebras whose complexifications are isomorphic.  相似文献

Following Connes and Moscovici, we show that the Baum-Connes assembly map forK *(C*v) is rationally injective when is word-hyperbolic, implying the Equivariant Novikov conjecture for such groups. Using this result in topologicalK-theory and Borel-Karoubi regulators, we also show that the corresponding generalized assembly map in algebraicK-theory is rationally injective.  相似文献
