We compute the first order supersymmetric QCD correction to wino \((\tilde W)\) and zino \((\tilde Z)\) production in \(p\bar p\) collisions via subprocesses involving two massless partons inside the nucleon or one massless parton and a massive SUSY parton (squark or gluino). The first order SQCD corrections to the rapidity dependence at CERN collider and Tevatron energies are found large (K~2). The rates are important (~10?2 nb at \(\sqrt s = 630\) GeV and ~10?1 nb at \(\sqrt s = 2\) TeV), as soon as the \((\tilde W)\) and \((\tilde Z)\) production by squarks is allowed. Transverse momentum distributions are also given and their shape is found very sensitive to the presence of SUSY partons inside the nucleon.  相似文献

The 20th-century physics starts with Einstein and ends with Feynman. Einstein introduced the Lorentz-covariant world with E=mc 2. Feynman observed that fast-moving hadrons consist of partons which interact incoherently with external signals. If quarks and partons are the same entities observed in different Lorentz frames, the question then is why partons are incoherent while quarks are coherent. This is the most puzzling question Feynman left for us to solve. In this report, we discuss Wigner’s role in settling this question. Einstein’s E=mc 2, which takes the form $E = \sqrt {m^2 + p^2 } $ , unifies the energy-momentum relations for massive and massless particles, but it does not take into account internal space-time structure of relativistic particles. It is pointed out Wigner’s 1939 paper on the inhomogeneous Lorentz group defines particle spin and gauge degrees of freedom in the Lorentz-covariant world. Within the Wigner framework, it is shown possible to construct the internal space-time structure for hadrons in the quark model. It is then shown that the quark model and the parton model are two different manifestations of the same covariant entity. It is shown therefore that the lack of coherence in Feynman’s parton picture is an effect of the Lorentz covariance.  相似文献

Exploiting the idea that the fast partons of an energetic projectile can be treated as sources of colour radiation interpreted as wee partons, it is shown that the recently observed property of extended limiting fragmentation implies a scaling law for the rapidity distribution of fast partons. This leads to a picture of a self-similar process where, for fixed total rapidity Y  , the sources merge with probability varying as 1/y1/y.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the fermionic Casimir effect under a new type of space-time topology using the concept of quotient topology. The relation between the new topology and that in Feng and Li (Phys. Lett. B 691:167, 2010), Zhai et al. (Mod. Phys. Lett. A 26:669, 2011) is something like that between a Möbius strip and a cylindric. We obtain the exact results of the Casimir energy and force for the massless and massive Dirac fields in the (D+1)-dimensional space-time. For both massless and massive cases, there is a Z 2 symmetry for the Casimir energy. To see the effect of the mass, we compare the result with that of the massless one and we found that the Casimir force approaches the result of the force in the massless case when the mass tends to zero and vanishes when the mass tends to infinity.  相似文献

The collective excitation of surface plasmons in a massless Dirac plasma (e.g., graphene) half-space (bounded by air) is investigated using a relativistic quantum fluid model. The unique features of such surface waves are discussed and compared with those in a Fermi plasma. It is found that in contrast to Fermi plasmas, the long-wavelength surface plasmon frequency (ω) in massless Dirac plasmas is explicitly nonclassical, i.e., ω1/?, where h=2π? is the Planck's constant. Besides some apparent similarities between the surface plasmon frequencies in massless Dirac plasmas and Fermi plasmas, several notable differences are also found and discussed. Our findings elucidate the properties of surface plasmons that may propagate in degenerate plasmas where the relativistic and quantum effects play a vital role.  相似文献

Using ambient space we develop a fully gauge and o(d,2)o(d,2)-covariant approach to boundary values of AdSd+1AdSd+1 gauge fields. It is applied to the study of (partially) massless fields in the bulk and (higher-order) conformal scalars, i.e. singletons, as well as (higher-depth) conformal gauge fields on the boundary. In particular, we identify the corresponding generalized Fradkin–Tseytlin equations as obstructions to the extension of the off-shell boundary value to the bulk, generalizing the usual considerations for the holographic anomalies to the partially massless fields. We also relate the background fields for the higher-order singleton to the boundary values of partially massless fields and prove the appropriate generalization of the Flato–Fronsdal theorem, which is in agreement with the known structure of symmetries for the higher-order wave operator. All these facts support the following generalization of the higher-spin holographic duality: the O(N)O(N) model at a multicritical isotropic Lifshitz point should be dual to the theory of partially massless symmetric tensor fields described by the Vasiliev equations based on the higher-order singleton symmetry algebra.  相似文献

It has been shown recently (Hollands and Kopper, Commun. Math. Phys. 313:257–290, 2012) that the mathematical status of the operator product expansion (OPE) is better than had previously been expected: namely considering massive Euclidean \({\varphi_4^4}\)-theory in the perturbative loop expansion, the OPE converges at any loop order when considering (as is usually done) composite operator insertions into correlation functions. In the present paper we prove the same result for the massless theory. While the short-distance properties of massive and massless theories may be expected to be similar on physical grounds, the proof in the massless case requires entirely new techniques, becausewe have to control with sufficient precision the exceptional momentum singularities of the massless correlation functions. Thebounds we state are organised in terms of weight factors associated to certain tree graphs (“tree dominance”). Our proof is again based on the flow equations of the renormalisation group, which we combine with such graph structures.  相似文献

We study the screening effect for the multiparton interactions (MPI) for proton–deuteron collisions in the kinematics where one parton belonging to the deuteron has small \(x_1\) , so the leading twist shadowing is present, while the second parton ( \(x_2\) ) is involved in the interaction in the kinematics where shadowing effects are small. We find that the ratio of the shadowing and the impulse approximation terms is approximately a factor of 2 larger for MPI than for the single parton distributions. We also calculate the double parton antishadowing (DPA) contribution to the cross section due to the independent interactions of the partons of the projectile proton with two nucleons of the deuteron and find that shadowing leads to a strong reduction of the DPA effect. For example, for the resolution scale \(Q_1^2 \sim 4\)   \(\text{ GeV }^2\) of the interaction with parton \(x_1\) we find that shadowing reduces the DPA effect by \(\sim \) 30 %. It is argued that in the discussed kinematics the contribution of the interference diagrams, which correspond to the interchange of partons between the proton and neutron, constitutes only a small correction to the shadowing contributions.  相似文献

We consider soft-gluon evolution in the colour flow basis. We give explicit expressions for the colour structure of the (one-loop) soft anomalous dimension matrix for an arbitrary number of partons, and we show how the successive exponentiation of classes of large- \(N\) contributions can be achieved to provide a systematic expansion of the evolution in terms of colour-suppressed contributions.  相似文献

We present a Monte Carlo implementation of medium-induced gluon radiation in the final-state branching process. Medium effects are introduced through an additive term in the splitting functions. We have implemented such modification within PYTHIA. We show the medium effects on the hump-backed plateau, and the transverse-momentum and angular distributions with respect to the parent parton. As expected, with increasing medium densities there is an increase (decrease) of partons with small (large) momentum fraction, and angular broadening is observed. The effects on the transverse-momentum distributions are more involved, with an enhancement of low- and intermediate-p T partons and a decrease at large p T, which is related to energy conservation, and to the lack of momentum exchange with the medium in our approach.  相似文献

Dynamical systems techniques are used to study the class of self-similar static spherically symmetric models with two non-interacting scalar fields with exponential potentials. The global dynamics depends on the scalar self-interaction potential parameters k 1 and k 2. For all values of k 1, k 2, there always exists (a subset of) expanding massless scalar field models that are early-time attractors and (a subset of) contracting massless scalar field models that are late-time attractors. When k 1 1/ and k 2 1/ , in general the solutions evolve from an expanding massless scalar fields model and then recollapse to a contracting massless scalar fields model. When k 1 < 1/ or k 2 < 1/ , the solutions generically evolve away from an expanding massless scalar fields model or an expanding single scalar field model and thereafter asymptote towards a contracting massless scalar fields model or a contracting single scalar field model. It is interesting that in this case a single scalar field model can represent the early-time or late-time asymptotic dynamical state of the models. The dynamics in the physical invariant set which constitutes a part of the boundary of the five-dimensional timelike self-similar physical region are discussed in more detail.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the motion of a rigid body immersed in a two dimensional unbounded incompressible perfect fluid with vorticity. We prove that when the body shrinks to a massless pointwise particle with fixed circulation, the “fluid+rigid body” system converges to the vortex-wave system introduced by Marchioro and Pulvirenti (Mathematical theory of incompressible nonviscous fluids. Applied Mathematical Sciences 96, Springer-Verlag, 1994). This extends both the paper (Glass et al. Bull Soc Math France 142(3):489–536, 2014) where the case of a solid tending to a massive pointwise particle was tackled and the paper (Glass et al. Dynamics of a point vortex as limits of a shrinking solid in an irrotational fluid, 2014) where the massless case was considered but in a bounded cavity filled with an irrotational fluid.  相似文献

It is shown that the field theory of massless particles has the internal symmetry groupG=U(1) AutU(1). The 5 and dual transformations of neutrino and electromagnetic fields are particular cases of the transformations of this group. TheCP transformations of massless field can also be included in the transformations of this group. The following formulation of Pryce (1938) theorem is given: Statistical properties of the composite photon in the neutrino theory of light are inconsistent with chiral (5) symmetry of neutrino and electromagnetic fields.  相似文献

Azimuthal anisotropy in heavy-ion collisions is studied by taking into account the ridges generated by semi-hard scattering of intermediate-momentum partons, which can be sensitive to the initial spatial configuration of the medium in non-central collisions. In a simple treatment of the problem where the recombination of only thermal partons is considered, analytical formulas can be derived that yield results in accord with the data on v2v2 for pT<1–2 GeV/cpT<12 GeV/c. Centrality dependence is described by a geometrical factor. Ridge phenomenology is used to determine the initial slopes of v2v2 at low pTpT for both pion and proton. For higher pTpT, shower partons from high-pTpT jets must be included, but they are not considered here.  相似文献

Using a generalized consistency condition (gcc), we construct couplings between massless scalar fields and the spin 2 gravitational field. Specifically, we consider all possible third-order interaction terms for scalar fields and a and use the gcc to single out one. We construct unitary representations of (1,0) and (2,0) superconformal algebras in six dimensions by using superfields defined on harmonic superspaces with coset manifolds USp(2n)/[U(1)]n, n=1, 2. In the spirit of the AdS7/CFT6 correspondence, massless conformal fields correspond to supersingletons in AdS7. By tensoring them we produce all short representations corresponding to 1/2 and 1/4 BPS anti-de Sitter bulk states of which massless bulk representations are particular cases.  相似文献

We consider a model field theory consisting of two Nambu-Jona-Lasinio spin 1/2 fields interacting via a coupling \(f(\bar \psi _1 \gamma ^\mu \gamma ^5 \psi _1 )(\bar \psi _2 \gamma _\mu \gamma ^5 \psi _2 )\) and which is therefore invariant under the two symmetries \(\psi _1 (x) \to e^{i\alpha _1 } \gamma ^5 \psi _1 (x)\) and \(\psi _2 (x) \to e^{i\alpha _2 } \gamma ^5 \psi _2 (x)\) . We look for solutions in which these symmetries are spontaneously broken by giving the fermions non-zero masses. Each of the two pairs of axial-vector vertex functions in the theory satisfy two coupled integral equations, which are solved in the ‘chain approximation’. We find that all four vertex functions have the same singularity structure, in particular a pole atq 2=0 corresponding to a massless pseudoscalar Nambu-Goldstone boson, and another pole corresponding to an axial-vector boson whose mass is cut-off dependent, but which for a certain range of values off 2 is a stable particle. By considering the coupling of the strings of nucleon-antinucleon psuedoscalar ‘bubbles’ which generate the massless Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with fermions 1 and 2, we show explicitly that there is only one massless Nambu-Goldstone boson in the theory.  相似文献
