Many parallel iterative algorithms for solving symmetric, positive definite problems proceed by solving in each iteration, a number of independent systems on subspaces. The convergence of such methods is determined by the spectrum of the sums of orthogonal projections on those subspaces, while the convergence of a related sequential method is determined by the spectrum of the product of complementary projections. Bertini’s theorem on variable singular points may fail in positive characteristic, as was discovered by Zariski in 1944. In fact, he found fibrations by nonsmooth curves. In this work we continue to classify this phenomenon in characteristic three by constructing a two-dimensional algebraic fibration by nonsmooth plane projective quartic curves, that is universal in the sense that the data about some fibrations by nonsmooth plane projective quartics are condensed in it. Our approach has been motivated by the close relation between it and the theory of regular but nonsmooth curves, or equivalently, nonconservative function fields in one variable. Actually, it also provides an understanding of the interesting effect of the relative Frobenius morphism in fibrations by nonsmooth curves. In analogy to the Kodaira-Néron classification of special fibers of minimal fibrations by elliptic curves, we also construct the minimal proper regular model of some fibrations by nonsmooth projective plane quartic curves, determine the structure of the bad fibers, and study the global geometry of the total spaces.  相似文献

For models with correlated parameters, the amount of uncertainty (generally measured by variance) in a model output contributed by a specific parameter encompasses two components: (1) the uncertainty contributed by the variations (used to represent uncertainty in the parameter) correlated with other parameters; and (2) the uncertainty contributed by the variations unique to the parameter of interest (i.e., uncorrelated variations or variations that cannot be explained by any other parameters in the model). A regression-based method has been proposed previously by Xu and Gertner (2008) [1] to decouple the correlated and uncorrelated contributions to uncertainties in model outputs by each parameter for linear models. Based on a modified version of the popular Fourier Amplitude Sensitivity Test (FAST), this paper develops a general approach for the quantification of the correlated and uncorrelated parametric uncertainty contributions in linear, nonlinear and non-monotonic models with linear or nonlinear dependence among parameters. The decoupling of correlated and uncorrelated contributions can help us determine if the uncertainty contributed by a specific parameter results from the uncertainty in itself or from its correlations with other parameters. Thus, this decoupling can be very useful in improving the understanding our modeled systems.  相似文献

In this note we introduce the study of the global behaviour of the network-based SIS epidemic model recently proposed by Pastor-Satorras and Vespignani [Epidemic spreading in scale-free networks, Phys. Rev. Lett. 86 (2001) 3200], characterized in case of homogeneous scale-free networks by a very small epidemic threshold, and extended by Olinky and Stone [Unexpected epidemic threshold in heterogeneous networks: the role of disease transmission, Phys. Rev. E 70 (2004) 03902(r)]. We show that the above model may be read as a particular case of the classical multi-group SIS model proposed by Lajmainovitch and Yorke [A deterministic model for gonorrhea in a nonhomogeneous population, Math. Biosci. 28 (1976) 221] and extended by Aronsson and Mellander [A deterministic model in biomathematics. Asymptotic behaviour and threshold conditions, Math. Biosci. 49 (1980) 207]. Thus, by applying the methods used for SIS multi-group models, we straightforwardly show, for the first time, that the local conditions identified in the physics literature also determine the global behaviour of a disease spreading on a network. Finally, we briefly study the case in which the force of infection is non-linear, by showing that multiple coexisting equilibria are possible, and by giving a global threshold condition for the extinction.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider discounted-reward finite-state Markov decision processes which depend on unknown parameters. An adaptive policy inspired by the nonstationary value iteration scheme of Federgruen and Schweitzer (Ref. 1) is proposed. Natural disasters increase in number and severity. Studies have shown the failure of the catastrophe insurance market by listing many causes or through developing economic models (Charpentier and Le Maux, 2014; Kousky and Cooke, 2012; Ibragimov et al., 2009). However, they have not considered the effect of the following factors on market equilibrium: advanced disaster-resistant technologies used by insureds, alternative financial innovations employed by insurers, and various disaster policies that are implemented by governments. To fill this gap, this study examines how these three factors affect the market equilibrium by changing the supply of, and demand for insurance and determines which factor(s) contributes to the market equilibrium. Furthermore, we derive the formula of position size which gives criteria for selecting index-based contracts. Overall annual numbers and insured losses of catastrophes are collected by peril type and by occurrence region listed in Sigma, which is issued by Swiss Re annually. The comparative static equilibrium analysis demonstrates that the improvement of market equilibrium is significant at low level of loss correlation in all cases. The empirical findings give insurers good references for business and geographical diversification in portfolio of catastrophe insurance policies.  相似文献

We consider a location problem where the distribution of the existing facilities is described by a probability distribution and the transportation cost is given by a combination of transportation cost in a network and continuous distance. The motivation is that in many cases transportation cost is partly given by the cost of travel in a transportation network whereas the access to the network and the travel from the exit of the network to the new facility is given by a continuous distance.   相似文献

In present paper a three-dimensional Vortex-In-Cell method with two-way coupling effect was developed to study the bubble plume entrainment by a vortex ring. In this method the continuous flow was calculated by the three-dimensional Vortex-In-Cell method and the bubbles are tracked through bubble motion equation. Two-way coupling effect between continuous flow and dispersed bubbles is considered by introducing a vorticity source term, which is induced by the change of void fraction gradient in each computational cell. After validated by the comparison between experimental measurements and simulation results for the motion of vortex rings and the rising velocity of bubble plume, present method is implemented to simulate the interaction between an evolving vortex ring and a rising bubble plume. It was found that there is little effect of the bubble entrainment to the total circulation of vortex ring while the effect of bubble entrainment to the vortex ring structure is quite obvious. The bubble entrainment by the vortex ring not only changed the vorticity distribution in the vortex structure, but also displaced the positions of the vortex cores. The vorticity in the lower vortex core of the vortex ring decreases more than that in the upper vortex core of the vortex ring while the vortex core in the upper part of the vortex ring is displaced to the center of vortex ring by the entrained bubbles. Smaller bubbles are easier to be entrained by the large scale vortex structure and the transportation distance is in inverse proportion to bubble diameter.  相似文献

We describe a cutting plane algorithm for solving combinatorial optimization problems. The primal projective standard-form variant of Karmarkar's algorithm for linear programming is applied to the duals of a sequence of linear programming relaxations of the combinatorial optimization problem.Computational facilities provided by the Cornell Computational Optimization Project supported by NSF Grant DMS-8706133 and by the Cornell National Supercomputer Facility. Motivated by applications to neurophysiological problems, various authors have studied diffusion processes in duals of countably Hilbertian nuclear spaces governed by stochastic differential equations. In these models the diffusion coefficients describe the random stimuli received by spatially extended neurons. In this paper we present a large deviation principle for such processes when the diffusion terms tend to zero in terms of a small parameter. The lower bounds are established by making use of the Girsanov formula in abstract Wiener space. The upper bounds are obtained by Gaussian approximation of the diffusion processes and by taking advantage of the nuclear structure of the state space to pass from compact sets to closed sets.This research was partially supported by the National Science Foundation and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Grant No. F49620-92-J-0154 and the Army Research Office Grant No. DAAL03-92-G-0008.  相似文献

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by decreased attention span, impulsiveness, and hyperactivity. Autonomic nervous system imbalance was previously described in this population. We aim to compare the autonomic function of children with ADHD and controls by analyzing heart rate variability (HRV). Children with ADHD (22 boys, mean age 9.964 years) and 28 controls (15 boys, mean age 9.857 years) rested in supine position with spontaneous breathing for 20 min. Heart rate was recorded beat by beat. HRV analysis was performed by use of chaotic global techniques. ADHD promoted an increase in the chaotic forward parameter. The algorithm which applied all three chaotic global parameters was only the second optimum statistically measured by Kruskal–Wallis (P < 0.0001) and low standard deviations. It was also highly influential by principal component analysis with almost all variation covered by the first two components. The third algorithm which lacked the (high spectral Detrended Fluctuation Analysis) parameter performed best statistically. However, we chose the algorithm which applied all three chaotic globals due to previous studies mentioned in the text—forward and inverse problems. Comparison of the autonomic function by analyzing HRV with chaotic global techniques suggests an increase in chaotic activity in children with ADHD in relation to the control group. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We propose a method for finding analytic center of a convex feasible region whose boundaries are defined by quadratic functions. The algorithm starts from an arbitrary initial point and approaches to the desired center by simultaneously reducing infeasibility or slackness of all constraints. In this paper, we introduce the topological entropy of a free semigroup action generated by proper maps, which extends the notions of the topological entropy of the free semigroup actions defined by Bufetov in 1999 and topological entropy of the proper maps defined by Patrão in 2010. We then give some properties of these notions and discuss the relations between them. We also give a partial variational principle for locally compact separable metric spaces. Moreover, the relationship between topological entropy of the free semigroup generated by proper maps and topological entropy of a skew-product transformation is given. These results extend the results obtained by Patrão, Bufetov and Lin, Ma and Wang in 2018.  相似文献

Extension Principles play a significant role in the construction of MRA based wavelet frames and have attracted much attention for their potential applications in various scientific fields. A novel and simple procedure for the construction of tight wavelet frames generated by the Walsh polynomials using Extension Principles was recently considered by Shah in [Tight wavelet frames generated by the Walsh poly-nomials, Int. J. Wavelets, Multiresolut. Inf. Process., 11(6) (2013), 1350042]. In this paper, we establish a complete characterization of tight wavelet frames generated by the Walsh polynomials in terms of the polyphase matrices formed by the polyphase components of the Walsh polynomials.  相似文献
