The even-even nucleus 136Nd was studied via in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy using the 16O + 125Te reaction at 100 MeV and the EUROBALL array. One new dipole band was observed. Together with a previously identified dipole
band, whose position in the level scheme is revised, the new band forms a doublet structure similar to the recently observed
chiral bands in the odd-odd neighboring nuclei. This would be the first case of a chiral doublet in an even-even nucleus.

High-spin states of the 42Ca nucleus, populated in the 68 MeV 18O + 30Si reaction, have been studied in a γ-γ-recoil coincidence experiment. The level scheme of 42Ca has been extended up to 13.7 MeV. An elaborate decay pattern with various paths, together with high-quality DCO and polarization
information assigns spins and parities for almost all observed levels. The sequence of non-yrast positive-parity states is
discussed and compared with highly deformed bands in 36Ar and 40Ca.

We present a new parameterization of the trinucleon wave function. As a novel feature a separable parameterization for the
complete wave function is given. In this way any calculation that considers two-body currents only is largely simplified.
To demonstrate this we calculate the π3He scattering length in chiral-perturbation theory. We find reasonable agreement with experimental values inferred from data
on level shifts in pionic 3He bound states. The relevance of the π-triton system for an alternative determination of the πN scattering lengths is discussed.

Decay-spectroscopy study of the 67mFe isomer has been performed at GANIL. This isomer is found to have an energy of 387 keV and a half-life of 75(21) μs. An

The exclusive 2H( 3He, t)2p reaction has been studied at 2 GeV for energy transfers up to 500 MeV and triton angles up to 3.4°. The protons were measured in the large acceptance magnetic detector DIOGENE, in coincidence with the forward tritons detected
in a dedicated magnetic arm. The energy transfer spectra extend well above the pion threshold. However, in the region of Δ
excitation, the yield is less than 10% of the inclusive 2H( 3He, t) cross-section, which indicates the small contribution of the ΔN ↦ NN process. The angular distributions of the two
protons in their center of mass have been analysed as a function of energy transfer and triton angle and a Legendre polynomial
decomposition has been achieved. These data have been compared to a model based on a coupled-channel approach for describing
the NN and NΔ systems.

We have performed a theoretical analysis of the ground-state-to-ground-state transitions in 100Mo and 116Cd, based on the quasiparticle random-phase approximation and on a straightforward perturbative scheme. The results show that
the single-state dominance found in the realistic calculations of the nuclear matrix elements, which is consistent with data,
can be viewed as a result of the interference between few two-quasiparticle configurations.

The electroweak coupling between intense neutrino beams and strongly degenerate relativistic dense electron-positron magnetoplasmas
is considered. The intense neutrino bursts interact with the plasma due to the weak Fermi interaction force, and their dynamics
is governed by a kinetic equation. Our objective here is to develop a kinetic equation for a degenerate neutrino gas and to
use that equation to derive relativistic magnetohydrodynamic equations. The latter are useful for studying numerous collective
processes when intense neutrino beams nonlinearly interact with degenerate, relativistic, dense electron-positron plasmas
in strong magnetic fields. If the number densities of the plasma particles are of the order of 1033 cm-3, the pair plasma becomes ultra-relativistic, which strongly affects the potential energy of the weak Fermi interaction. The
new system of equations allows several neutrino-driven streaming instabilities involving new types of relativistic Alfvén-like
waves. The relevance of our investigation to the early universe and supernova explosions is discussed.

The influence of final-state NN and πN rescattering in incoherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron has been investigated. For the elementary photoproduction
operator an effective Lagrangian model is used which describes well the elementary reaction. The interactions in the final
two-body subsystems are taken in separable form. While NN rescattering shows quite a significant effect, particularly strong for neutral pion production, πN rescattering is almost negligible. Inclusion of such effects leads to an improved and quite satisfactory agreement with experiment.

Prompt and delayed gamma-ray spectroscopy of very neutron-deficient bismuth isotopes 187, 189Bi has been performed using the Recoil Decay Tagging (RTD) method. The isomeric i

We study the quark mass expansion of the magnetic moments of the nucleon in a chiral effective field theory including nucleons,
pions and delta-resonances as explicit degrees of freedom. We point out that the usual power counting applied so far to this
problem misses important quark mass structures generated via an intermediate isovector M1 nucleon-delta transition. We propose a modified power counting and compare the resulting chiral extrapolation function to
available (quenched) lattice data. The extrapolation is found to work surprisingly well, given that the lattice data result
from rather large quark masses. Our calculation raises the hope that extrapolations of lattice data utilizing chiral effective
field theory might be applicable over a wider range in quark masses than previously thought, and we discuss some open questions
in this context. Furthermore, we observe that within the current lattice data uncertainties the extrapolations presented here
are consistent with the Padé fit ansatz introduced by the Adelaide group a few years ago.

This paper introduces a car following model where the driving scheme takes into account the deficiencies of human decision
making in a general way. Additionally, it improves certain shortcomings of most of the models currently in use: it is stochastic
but has a continuous acceleration. This is achieved at the cost of formulating the model in terms of the time derivative of
the acceleration, making it non-Newtonian. However, the recipe for construction of bounded rational driver models proposed
in this paper seems to be very general and can be applied to most, if not all of the traditional car-following models.

The generation of zonal flows by flute-like interchange modes in a nonuniform magnetoplasma is considered. The guiding center
particle drifts are then used to derive a system of coupled mode equations. The latter are Fourier analyzed to obtain a nonlinear
dispersion relation, which exhibits the excitation of zonal flows by the ponderomotive force of the interchange modes. The
growth rate of the parametrically driven zonal flows is obtained.
