We determine here up to isomorphism the structure of any finite nonabelian 2-group G in which every two distinct maximal abelian subgroups have cyclic intersection. We obtain five infinite classes of such 2-groups (Theorem 1.1). This solves for p = 2 the problem Nr. 521 stated by Berkovich (in preparation). The more general problem Nr. 258 stated by Berkovich (in preparation) about the structure of finite nonabelian p-groups G such that A ∩ B = Z(G) for every two distinct maximal abelian subgroups A and B is treated in Theorems 3.1 and 3.2. In Corollary 3.3 we get a new result for an arbitrary finite 2-group. As an application of Theorems 3.1 and 3.2, we solve for p = 2 a problem of Heineken-Mann (Problem Nr. 169 stated in Berkovich, in preparation), classifying finite 2-groups G such that A/Z(G) is cyclic for each maximal abelian subgroup A (Theorem 4.1). 相似文献

In this paper we find the structure for the automorphism group of a split metacyclic 2-group G. It can be seen as a continuation of the paper (Curran in Arch. Math. 89 (2007), 10–23) and it makes it complete. We propose a different approach to the problem than in the paper (Curran in Arch.
Math. 89 (2007), 10–23). Our intention is to show that apart from some cases of 2-groups AutG has a structure similar to that of a direct product of two groups with no common direct factor [which was considered in Bidwell,

In the general context of functorial topologies, we prove that in the lattice of all group topologies on an abelian group, the infimum between the Bohr topology and the natural topology is the profinite topology. The profinite topology and its connection to other functorial topologies is the main objective of the paper. We are particularly interested in the poset C(G) of all finite-index subgroups of an abelian group G, since it is a local base for the profinite topology of G. We describe various features of the poset C(G) (its cardinality, its cofinality, etc.) and we characterize the abelian groups G for which C(G)?{G} is cofinal in the poset of all subgroups of G ordered by inclusion. Finally, for pairs of functorial topologies T, S we define the equalizer E(T,S), which permits to describe relevant classes of abelian groups in terms of functorial topologies. 相似文献

We determine the maximal number of conjugacy classes of maximal elementary abelian subgroups of rank 2 in a finite p-group G, for an odd prime p. Namely, it is p if G has rank at least 3 and it is p+1 if G has rank 2. Let A be a subgroup of a group G and X be a nonempty subset of G. A is said to be X-semipermutable in G if A has a supplement T in G such that A is X-permutable with every subgroup of T. In this paper, we investigate further the influence of X-semipermutability of some subgroups on the structure of finite groups. Some new criteria for a group G to be supersoluble or p-nilpotent are obtained.

A subgroup is called c-semipermutable in G if A has a minimal supplement T in G such that for every subgroup T 1 of T there is an element x ∈ T satisfying AT 1 x = T 1 x A. We make a definition of ω-precategory which should underlie any definition of weak ω-category. We make a precise definition of pseudo-invertible cells in this setting. We show that in an ω-precategory with all weak duals, every cell is pseudo-invertible. We deduce that in any “sensible” theory of ω-categories, an ω-category with all weak duals is an ω-groupoid. We discuss various examples and open questions involving higher-dimensional tangles and cobordisms.
