We study three-body recombination in an optically trapped ultracold gas of cesium atoms with precise magnetic control of the s-wave scattering length a. At large positive values of a, we measure the dependence of the rate coefficient on a and confirm the theoretically predicted scaling proportional to a(4). Evidence of recombination heating indicates the formation of very weakly bound molecules in the last bound energy level.  相似文献

We calculate the energy and condensate fraction for a dense system of bosons interacting through an attractive short range interaction with positive s-wave scattering length a. At high densities n>a(-3), the energy per particle, chemical potential, and square of the sound speed are independent of the scattering length and proportional to n(2/3), as in Fermi systems. An energy dependent phase-shift analysis of p+d elastic scattering below the deuteron breakup threshold has been conducted. The analysis indicates the existence of a singularity in the doublet S-wave effective range function, resulting in a very small value for the scattering length 2apd. The inferred value of the quartet S-wave scattering length 4apd is in good agreement with theoretical predictions.  相似文献

We calculate the scattering lengths for pions on light nuclei, in a multiple scattering theory given earlier. We include all effects through second order in the pion-nucleon scattering amplitudes, using a simple nuclear model. We show how to calculate the binding corrections (BC) consistently, and find large cancellations between differentBC terms. The resulting scattering lengths are smaller than those obtained from measurements of pi-atomic level shifts. The size of the difference is consistent with the contribution of pion absorption, which we estimate.  相似文献

The static energy-density correlation function S 2(0)S 2(x)–S 22 is calculated in the critical region for theS 4 Ginzburg-Landau-Wilson model at short distances and for nonzero field. Short distance expansion is used and its structure for more complex vertex functions is given. Goldstone mode singularities present at the magnetization curve are taken into account. The main application is given in the theory of polymer solutions. Here, S 2(0)S 2(x)–S 22 becomes the Fourier transform of the densitydensity correlation.  相似文献

An unorthodox model is examined which predicts that scaling violations in structure functions are related to properties of the photon vacuum polarization amplitude. The relationship is approximate, but very useful. It reproduces the leading QCD prediction in all cases, and allows, as for instance in γγ scattering, to fill up on what QCD cannot say by itself. There is a simple formula for the total γγ cross-section, valid for all values of the photon mass. Data frome + e? annihilation can be fed into it to obtain a fit to the measured photon structure function. The PLUTO data are not all difficult to reproduce.  相似文献

We have measured the angular distribution of the depolarization parameter Kyy in p-15N elastic scattering at 65 MeV. The deviation of Kyy from unity is large and indicates the existence of a nucleon-nucleus spin-spin interaction. The DWBA analysis shows that the measured Kyy data imply a large contribution from the tensor part of the spin-spin potential.  相似文献

The approximate scaling behavior suggested by recent measurements of electron scattering form factors and inelastic structure functions of few-body nuclei (mass 2, 3, 4) is discussed in a relativistic impulse approximation model. The model is a straightforward extension incorporating spin of a nucleon parton model introduced in recent works. We present results for electric and magnetic form factors as well as inelastic structure functions near threshold. The important corrections to scaling which are present in the preasymptotic regions are found to be well accounted for by the type of binding effects included in the phenomenologically constructed infinite-momentum frame nuclear wave functions. While predicted form factors are very sensitive to the parameters in the wave functions it does not appear possible to associate unambiguous dynamical meaning to these parameters. We find that spin effects bring significant and useful corrections.  相似文献

The scaling law in quasielastic electron scattering is broken due to exchange forces. The violation in the longitudinal response function is attributed to the central part of exchange forces, while in the transverse response the tensor part also leads to the breaking. We consider a noninteracting disordered system designed to model particle diffusion, relaxation in glasses, and impurity bands of semiconductors. Disorder originates in the random spatial distribution of sites. We find strong numerical evidence that this model displays the same universal behavior as the standard Anderson model. We use finite-size scaling to find the localization length as a function of energy and density, including localized states away from the delocalization transition. Results at many energies all fit onto the same universal scaling curve.  相似文献

The effects of amplitude modulation of interacting waves at stimulated Mandelstam-Brillouin scattering (SMBS) in a monomode fibre caused by the noise origin of the initial Stokes wave are investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Depending on the determined conditions, there can taken place either a smoothing of the noise amplitude modulation or its preservation in the Stokes radiation in the deep saturation regime of SMBS. Amplitude modulation with period corresponding to the double time of radiation propagation through the fibre is observed along with noise-amplitude modulation of the Stokes and pump waves. The effect of this period prolongation is discussed. The influence of phase fluctuations on amplitude modulation of interacting waves is investigated. The role of phase correlations in the feedback regime of SMBS is considered. Experimental results are in good agreement with numerical calculations.  相似文献

Motivated by the recently performed X-ray precision experiments on pionic hydrogen (preceding paper), we reconsider the problem of electromagnetic corrections to the π - N scattering lengths. Based on a relativistic two-channel approach, we find corrections to the πp elastic and single-charge-exchange (SCE) scatering lengths due to the point-Coulomb interaction, the finite-size Coulomb interaction (including the pion size), the first-order vacuum polarization (Uehling potential) and the (πp) - (π0n) mass difference (mass difference effect). We also estimate the contribution due to the (γ,n) decay channel. The total corrections to the elastic and the SCE scattering lengths are found to be δε = −(2.1 ± 0.5) × 10−2 and δΓ = −(1.3 ± 0.5) × 10−2. Previously published values for the corrections are critically compared with our results.  相似文献
