The scintillation light output of a pure and a Thallium doped Sodium Iodide (NaI) crystal under irradiation with 5.486?MeV ?? particles has been measured over a temperature range from 1.7?K to 300?K. Estimates of the decay time constant at three selected temperatures are given. For pure NaI an increase in light yield towards low temperatures could be confirmed and measured at higher precision. For NaI(Tl) below 60?K an increase in light output has been found.  相似文献

Using absorption spectroscopy and luminescent methods, we have investigated qualitatively dissimilar NaI and NaI(Tl) crystals. It is established that in NaI(Tl) crystals grown under conditions of melt hydrolysis and interaction with the air components, centers of additional luminescence of nonactivation nature are formed that decrease the transparency in the activator-radiation region. Data on the hole nature of these centers are obtained. It is shown that high-temperature annealing can alter the number of centers responsible for the decrease in the transparency of the NaI(Tl) crystals.  相似文献

The channeling effect of low energy ions along the crystallographic axes and planes of NaI(Tl) crystals is discussed in the framework of corollary investigations on WIMP dark matter candidates. In fact, the modeling of this existing effect implies a more complex evaluation of the luminosity yield for low energy recoiling Na and I ions. To overcome the problem of pulse pile-up at high count rates, a digital deconvolution algorithm is used to remove the exponential current tails of NaI(Tl) detectors, so as to obtain a current unit impulse. Then a narrow pulse can be obtained through pulse shaping. The pulse deconvolution technique can thoroughly eliminate the influences of ballistic deficit and improve traditional pulse shaping systems in both pulse throughput and energy resolution. To demonstrate this method, the energy spectrum of a ~(137)Cs radioactive source was measured. When the shaping time constant is 1.5 μs, traditional pulse shaping systems yielded a 6.99% energy resolution and 68 kcps count rate, while the new pulse deconvolution technique, used to improve traditional pulse shaping systems, yielded a 6.37% energy resolution and 102 kcps count rate.  相似文献

NaI(Tl) and LaBr3(Ce) detectors are frequently operated under unstable temperature conditions when used in an open environment. These temperature changes result in a peak shift and spectral distortion during measurement. Two methods are proposed to stabilise the measured spectra; they are applied using a software algorithm, without the necessity of adjusting the gain. Both methods are based on the experimental observation that the relative channel displacement due to temperature changes is approximately the same for all channels. The first method corrects the spectrum using experimental data obtained under controlled conditions in the laboratory, and thus it only depends on the detector temperature. The second method uses one known peak in the spectrum to correct all of the channels: the NORM 40K peak for the NaI(Tl) detector, the internal contaminant peak of 138La for the LaBr3(Ce), or an external source when these two cannot be easily identified.  相似文献

The present work was carried out to find out the gamma ray shielding properties and to study the effects using an NaI (Tl) detector using radioactive sources 57Co, 133Ba, 137Cs, 54Mn, 60Co and 22Na at energies 122, 356, 511, 662, 840, 1170, 1275 and 1330?keV, for some chemicals, namely, sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3), benzoic acid (C7H6O2), sodium hydroxide (NaOH), poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) (C2H4O), potassium nitrate (KNO3), naphthalene (C10H8). Mass attenuation coefficient (µm) values obtained from the experiment were used to determine the effective atomic numbers (Zeff) and effective electron densities (Neff), atomic cross-sections (σt) and electronic cross-sections (σe); it will be observed from the present work that the variation in the obtained values is only due to the increase or decrease in the gamma ray energy and the chemical composition of the sample. It was seen that the calculated and obtained values showed good agreement. The investigated data are useful in the electronic industry, plastic industry, building materials and agriculture fields. From the present work it was found that the PVA could be used as a better gamma shielding material.  相似文献

An array of seven hexagonal NaI(Tl) detectors has been set up for measuringγ-ray spectra in the energy region 5 MeV ≤E γ ≤ 40 MeV with good accuracy. This is in contrast to earlier set ups which mostly used one large sized (about 10 inchesφ × 15 inches long)NaI(Tl) detector. This set up has been made for the study ofγ decay of GDR based on high spin states and ultra-dipole radiations. The array has been provided with the following features: a) TOF discrimination against neutrons, b) pile up detection and elimination, c) active and passive shielding to cut down background and d) an array of trigger counters for multiplicity dependence measurements. The well known program EGS4 has been used to determine the response of the array forγ-rays in the energy region 5–40 MeV and several test measurements have been carried out to confirm the validity of the calculated response functions. Some typicalγ-ray spectra fromα and16O induced reactions measured at VECC, Calcutta and Pelletron accelerator at TIFR are also shown.  相似文献

We designed and implemented a signal generator that can simulate the output of the NaI(Tl)/CsI(Na)detectors’pre-amplifier onboard the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope(HXMT).Using the development of the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array)with VHDL language and adding a random constituent,we have finally produced the double exponential random pulse signal generator.The statistical distribution of the signal amplitude is programmable.The occurrence time intervals of the adjacent signals contain negative exponential distribution statistically.  相似文献

An experiment with a layer-by-layer irradiation of the large volume NaI(Tl)-crystal has been performed. The inhomogeneity of the light yield spatial distribution along the crystal’s axis was revealed. A new method of accounting for the revealed inhomogeneity in the processing of the gamma-ray spectra registered using a crystal with nonuniform response is proposed. This method is quite universal: the conventional stages of the detector investigation (the calibration with standard gamma-ray sources and the inhomogeneity estimation using a layer-by-layer irradiation) are complemented by another one stage with computing of the absorbed energy distribution using Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, based on the results of these stages, the combined broadening function is formed for calculation of the response function.  相似文献

导出了核动力反应堆一回路16N的泄漏率与γ射线探测器的计数率、高压蒸气流速、16N的衰变常量及其发射γ射线的概率和效率的关系式,并得出效率与高压蒸气流速和16N的衰变常量等无关的结论.用发射6.13MeV–γ射线的PuC点源测量了NaI(Tl)探测器对长管体源的相对效率的空间分布和参考点的绝对效率,据此计算出长管体源的效率,效率的测量值与MC法的计算值在7%之内符合.分析了6.13和7.12MeVγ射线的效率差异对16N泄漏率和Compton小角散射的次级γ射线对收敛长度的影响.  相似文献
