We introduce and investigate the strong approximation property of Banach spaces which is strictly stronger than the approximation property and at least formally weaker than the weak bounded approximation property. Among others, we show that the weak bounded approximation property is equivalent to a quantitative strengthening of the strong approximation property. Some recent results on the approximation property of Banach spaces and their dual spaces are improved.  相似文献

Let X be a compact metric space and f:XX be a continuous map. In this paper, we prove that if f has the average-shadowing property and the minimal points of f are dense in X, then f is weakly mixing and totally strongly ergodic. As applications we obtain that if f is a distal or Lyapunov stable map having the average-shadowing property, then X is consisting of one point. Moreover, we illustrate that the full shift has the average-shadowing property.  相似文献

We show that the strong approximation property (strong AP) (respectively, strong CAP) and the weak bounded approximation property (respectively, weak BCAP) are equivalent for every Banach space. This gives a negative answer to Oja's conjecture. As a consequence, we show that each of the spaces c0c0 and ?1?1 has a subspace which has the AP but fails to have the strong AP.  相似文献

A noncommutative analog of the concept of Markov time is formulated, in association with a canonical Wiener process (P, Q) [4]. For such a Markov time T, the quantities PT(t) = P(t + T) ? P(T), QT(t) = Q(t + T) ? Q(T) can be defined using spectral integrals with operator-valued integrands, and constitute a new canonical Wiener process (PT, QT), which is independent of the analog of the σ-field of events generated by the process up to the Markov time.  相似文献

Summary We consider a class of reflecting Brownian motions on the non-negative orthant inR K . In the interior of the orthant, such a process behaves like Brownian motion with a constant covariance matrix and drift vector. At each of the (K-1)-dimensional faces that form the boundary of the orthant, the process reflects instantaneously in a direction that is constant over the face. We give a necessary condition for the process to have a certain semimartingale decomposition, and then show that the boundary processes appearing in this decomposition do not charge the set of times that the process is at the intersection of two or more faces. This boundary property plays an essential role in the derivation (performed in a separate work) of an analytical characterization of the stationary distributions of such semimartingale reflecting Brownian motions.Research performed in part while the second author was visiting the Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications with support provided by the National Science Foundation and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Abstract

We investigate the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for state-dependent regime-switching diffusion processes in an infinite state space with singular coefficients. Non-explosion conditions are given by using the Zvonkin’s transformation. The strong Feller property is proved by further assuming that the diffusion in each fixed environment generates a strong Feller semigroup, and our results can also be applied to irregular or degenerate situations.  相似文献

The strong conical hull intersection property (CHIP) is a geometric property of a collection of finitely many closed convex intersecting sets. This basic property, which was introduced by Deutsch et al. in 1997, is one of the central ingredients in the study of constrained interpolation and best approximation. In this paper we establish that the strong CHIP of intersecting sets of constraints is the key characterizing property for optimality and strong duality of convex programming problems. We first show that a sharpened strong CHIP is necessary and sufficient for a complete Lagrange multiplier characterization of optimality for the convex programming model problem where C is a closed convex subset of a Banach space X, S is a closed convex cone which does not necessarily have non-empty interior, Y is a Banach space, is a continuous convex function and g:XY is a continuous S-convex function. We also show that the strong CHIP completely characterizes the strong duality for partially finite convex programs, where Y is finite dimensional and g(x)=−Ax+b and S is a polyhedral convex cone. Global sufficient conditions which are strictly weaker than the Slater type conditions are given for the strong CHIP and for the sharpened strong CHIP. Suppose a manifold is produced by finite Dehn surgery on a non-torus alternating knot for which Seifert's algorithm produces a checkerboard surface. By demonstrating that it contains an essential lamination, we prove that such a manifold has as universal cover and, consequently, is irreducible and has infinite fundamental group. Together with previous work of Roberts, who proved this result in the case of alternating knots for which Seifert's algorithm does not produce a checkerboard surface, and Moser, who classified the manifolds produced by surgery on torus knots, this paper completes the proof that alternating knots satisfy Strong Property P.
