Characterization of 2-Local Derivations and Local Lie Derivations on Some Algebras

We prove that each 2-local derivation from the algebra M_n(A ) (n > 2) into its bimodule M_n(M) is a derivation, where A is a unital Banach algebra and M is a unital A -bimodule such that each Jordan derivation from A into M is an inner derivation, and that each 2-local derivation on a C*-algebra with a faithful traceable representation is a derivation. We also characterize local and 2-local Lie derivations on some algebras such as von Neumann algebras, nest algebras, the Jiang–Su algebra, and UHF algebras.     

Local and 2-local derivations on noncommutative Arens algebras

The paper is devoted to so-called local and 2-local derivations on the noncommutative Arens algebra L ^ω(M,τ) associated with a von Neumann algebra M and a faithful normal semi-finite trace τ. We prove that every 2-local derivation on L ^ω(M,τ) is a spatial derivation, and if M is a finite von Neumann algebra, then each local derivation on L ^ω(M,τ) is also a spatial derivation and every 2-local derivation on M is in fact an inner derivation.     

2-Local automorphisms of operator algebras

A not necessarily continuous, linear or multiplicative function θ from an algebra A into itself is called a 2-local automorphism if θ agrees with an automorphism of A at each pair of points in A. In this paper, we study when a 2-local automorphism of a C^∗-algebra, or a standard operator algebra on a locally convex space, is an automorphism.     

Local automorphisms of operator algebras on Banach spaces

In this paper we extend a result of Semrl stating that every 2-local automorphism of the full operator algebra on a separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space is an automorphism. In fact, besides separable Hilbert spaces, we obtain the same conclusion for the much larger class of Banach spaces with Schauder bases. The proof rests on an analogous statement concerning the 2-local automorphisms of matrix algebras for which we present a short proof. The need to get such a proof was formulated in Semrl's paper.

Local Abelian Torsion-Free Groups

A representation for p-local Abelian torsion-free groups of finite rank is obtained in terms of homomorphisms of p-adic modules of finite rank with fixed basis.     

The Cohomology of Exotic 2-local Finite Groups

There exist spaces BSol(q) which are the classifying spaces of a family of 2-local finite groups based on certain fusion system over the Sylow 2-subgroups of Spin₇(q). In this paper we calculate the cohomology of BSol(q) as an algebra over the Steenrod algebra . We also provide the calculation of the cohomology algebra over of the finite group of Lie type G₂(q).     

The Schur group of an abelian number field

We characterize the maximum r-local index of a Schur algebra over an abelian number field K in terms of global information determined by the field K for an arbitrary rational prime, r. This completes and unifies previous results of Janusz in [G.J. Janusz, The Schur group of an algebraic number field, Ann. of Math. (2) 103 (1976) 253-281] and Pendergrass in [J.W. Pendergrass, The 2-part of the Schur group, J. Algebra 41 (1976) 422-438].     

Representation Dimension and Quasi-hereditary Algebras

We study Auslander's representation dimension of Artin algebras, which is by definition the minimal projective dimension of coherent functors on modules which are both generators and cogenerators. We show the following statements: (1) if an Artin algebra A is stably hereditary, then the representation dimension of A is at most 3. (2) If two Artin algebras are stably equivalent of Morita type, then they have the same representation dimension. Particularly, if two self-injective algebras are derived equivalent, then they have the same representation dimension. (3) Any incidence algebra of a finite partially ordered set over a field has finite representation dimension. Moreover, we use results on quasi-hereditary algebras to show that (4) the Auslander algebra of a Nakayama algebra has finite representation dimension.     

Quantum algebras with representation ring of $$ \mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_2 $$ type

A reducible representation of the Temperley-Lieb algebra is constructed on a tensor product of n-dimensional spaces. As a centralizer of this action, we obtain a quantum algebra (quasi-triangular Hopf algebra) with the representation ring that is equivalent to the representation ring of the Lie algebra. The p-Blocks of the Mackey Algebra

Let p be a prime number. This paper describes the primitive idempotents and prime spectrum of the crossed Burnside algebra of a finite group over a p-local ring. The main application is a formula for the block idempotents of the p-local Mackey algebra of the group, in terms of the corresponding bloks of the group algebra.     

Quantum differential operators on the quantum plane

The universal enveloping algebra of a Lie algebra acts on its representation ring R through D(R), the ring of differential operators on R. A quantised universal enveloping algebra (or quantum group) is a deformation of a universal enveloping algebra and acts not through the differential operators of its representation ring but through the quantised differential operators of its representation ring. We present this situation for the quantum group of sl₂.     

Local automorphisms and derivations on

The aim of this note is to give a short proof that 2-local derivations on , the matrix algebra over the complex numbers are derivations and to give a shorter proof that 2-local *-automorphisms on are *-automorphisms.

     

Représentation de Weil associée à une représentation d'une algèbre de Jordan

In the present Note we construct the Weil representation of the Kantor-Koecher-Tits Lie algebra g associated to a simple real Jordan algebra V. Afterwards we introduce a family of integral operators intertwining the Weil representation with the infinitesimal representations of the degenerate principal series of the conformai group of a Jordan algebra V. We apply this result to the case conformal group SL(2r, ℝ).     

Symmetric nonself-adjoint operators in an enveloping algebra

Nelson and Stinespring proved that in any unitary representation of a Lie group with compact Lie algebra the representation of Hermitian elements in the enveloping algebra are essentially self-adjoint. If the Lie algebra is noncompact, we construct in its enveloping algebra a Hermitian element u such that in any locally faithful unitary representation the representative of u has no self-adjoint extension.     

Quantum volterra model and the universalR-matrix

We prove that an integrable system solved by the quantum inverse scattering method can be described by a purely algebraic object (universal R-matrix) and a proper algebraic representation. For the quantum Volterra model, we construct the L-operator and the fundamental R-matrix from the universal R-matrix for the quantum affine algebra U_q(ŝl₂) and the q-oscillator representation for it. Thus, there is an equivalence between an integrable system with the symmetry algebra A and the representation of this algebra. The representation dimension of domestic weakly symmetric algebras

Auslander’s representation dimension measures how far a finite dimensional algebra is away from being of finite representation type. In [1], M. Auslander proved that a finite dimensional algebra A is of finite representation type if and only if the representation dimension of A is at most 2. Recently, R. Rouquier proved that there are finite dimensional algebras of an arbitrarily large finite representation dimension. One of the exciting open problems is to show that all finite dimensional algebras of tame representation type have representation dimension at most 3. We prove that this is true for all domestic weakly symmetric algebras over algebraically closed fields having simply connected Galois coverings.

Realizable posets

Certain p-local orders in n-dimensional division algebras over the rational numbers occur as endomorphism rings of torsion-free abelian groups of rank n if and only if an associated finite poset P has a strict faithful representation of dimension less than |P| over the field with p elements. In this note we obtain a simple characterization of those finite posets which do not admit such a representation.Research supported in part by NSF grant DMS-8802833.
