Let P(n) be the set of all partitions of a natural number n. In the representation theory of symmetric groups, for every partition α ∈ P(n), the partition h(α) ∈ P(n) is defined so as to produce a certain set of zeros in the character table for Sn. Previously, the analog f(α) of h(α) was obtained pointing out an extra set of zeros in the table mentioned. Namely, h(α) is greatest (under the lexicographic ordering ≤) of the partitions β of n such that χα(gβ) ≠ 0, and f(α) is greatest of the partitions γ of n that are opposite in sign to h(α) and are such that χα(gγ) ≠ 0, where χα is an irreducible character of Sn, indexed by α, and gβ is an element in the conjugacy class of Sn, indexed by β. For α ∈ P(n), under some natural restrictions, here, we construct new partitions h′(α) and f′(α) of n possessing the following properties. (A) Let α ∈ P(n) and n ⩾ 3. Then h′(α) is identical is sign to h(α), χα(gh′(α)) ≠ 0, but χα(gγ) = 0 for all γ ∈ P(n) such that the sign of γ coincides with one of h(α), and h′(α) < γ < h(α). (B) Let α ∈ P(n), α ≠ α′, and n ⩾ 4. Then f′(α) is identical in sign to f(α), χα(gf′(α)) ≠ 0, but χα(gγ) = 0 for all γ ∈ P(n) such that the sign of γ coincides with one of f(α), and f′(α) < γ < f(α). The results obtained are then applied to study pairs of semiproportional irreducible characters in An. We deal with the decidability problem for first-order theories of a complete linear group GL(n,ℤ) of all integral matrices of order n ≥ 3. and of a respective complete linear monoid ML(n,ℤ). It is proved that theories ∀? ∧ GL(3,ℤ). ∃∀∧ GL(3,ℤ). ∀? ∧ ML(3,ℤ), and ∃? ∧ ML(3,ℤ) are critical. and that ∃∀ ∧ νGL(n,ℤ) and ∃∀ ∧ML(n,ℤ) are decidable for any n ≥ 3. Let G be an extension of ℚ by a direct sum of r copies of ℚ. (1) If G is abelian, then G is a direct sum of r + 1 copies of ℚ and AutG ≅ GL(r + 1, Q); (2) If G is non-abelian, then G is a direct product of an extraspecial ℚ-group E and m copies of ℚ, where E/ζE is a linear space over Q with dimension 2n and m + 2n = r. Furthermore, let AutG′G be the normal subgroup of AutG consisting of all elements of AutG which act trivially on the derived subgroup G′ of G, and AutG/ζG,ζGG be the normal subgroup of AutG consisting of all central automorphisms of G which also act trivially on the center ζG of G. Then (i) The extension 1 → AutG′G → AutG → AutG′ → 1 is split; (ii) AutG′G/AutG/ζG,ζGG ≅ Sp(2n,Q) × (GL(m, Q) ⋉ ℚ(m)); (iii) AutG/ζG,ζGG/InnG ≅ ℚ(2nm).  相似文献

A number of related combinatorial properties of a cardinal κ contradicting AC are examined. Chief results include: (1) For many ordinals γ, к → (к)γ implies к к (к). (2) For many ordinals γ, if к к (к) γ α for all α<κ, then κ is γ-weakly ineffable. (3) For all infinite cardinals γ, к к (к) implies κ is <γ-weakly ineffable. Many of the results in this paper appeared originally in the author’s doctoral dissertation.  相似文献

Let Δ be the closed unit disk in C, let Γ be the circle, let Π: Δ×C→Δ be projection, and letA(Δ) be the algebra of complex functions continuous on Δ and analytic in int Δ. LetK be a compact set in C2 such that Π(K)=Γ, and letK λ≠{w∈C|(λ,w)∈K}. Suppose further that (a) for every λ∈Γ,K λ is the union of two nonempty disjoint connected compact sets with connected complement, (b) there exists a function Q(λ,w)≠(w-R(λ))2-S(λ) quadratic in w withR,S∈A(Δ) such that for all λ∈Γ, {w∈C|Q(λ,w)=0}υ intK λ, whereS has only one zero in int Δ, counting multiplicity, and (c) for every λ∈Γ, the map ω→Q(λ,ω) is injective on each component ofK λ. Then we prove that К/K is the union of analytic disks 2-sheeted over int Δ, where К is the polynomial convex hull ofK. Furthermore, we show that БК/K is the disjoint union of such disks.  相似文献

Let A denote the class of functions which are analytic in |z|<1 and normalized so that f(0)=0 and f′(0)=1, and let R(α, β)⊂A be the class of functions f such thatRe[f′(z)+αzf″(z)]>β,Re α>0, β<1. We determine conditions under which (i) f ∈ R(α1, β1), g ∈ R(α2, β2) implies that the convolution f×g of f and g is convex; (ii) f ∈ R(0, β1), g ∈ R(0, β2) implies that f×g is starlike; (iii) f≠A such that f′(z)[f(z)/z]μ-1 ≺ 1 + λz, μ>0, 0<λ<1, is starlike, and (iv) f≠A such that f′(z)+αzf″(z) ≺ 1 + λz, α>0, δ>0, is convex or starlike. Whereas geometrical oppositions (logical squares and hexagons) have been so far investigated in many fields of modal logic (both abstract and applied), the oppositional geometrical side of “deontic logic” (the logic of “obligatory”, “forbidden”, “permitted”, . . .) has rather been neglected. Besides the classical “deontic square” (the deontic counterpart of Aristotle’s “logical square”), some interesting attempts have nevertheless been made to deepen the geometrical investigation of the deontic oppositions: Kalinowski (La logique des normes, PUF, Paris, 1972) has proposed a “deontic hexagon” as being the geometrical representation of standard deontic logic, whereas Joerden (jointly with Hruschka, in Archiv für Rechtsund Sozialphilosophie 73:1, 1987), McNamara (Mind 105:419, 1996) and Wessels (Die gute Samariterin. Zur Struktur der Supererogation, Walter de Gruyter, Berlin, 2002) have proposed some new “deontic polygons” for dealing with conservative extensions of standard deontic logic internalising the concept of “supererogation”. Since 2004 a new formal science of the geometrical oppositions inside logic has appeared, that is “n-opposition theory”, or “NOT”, which relies on the notion of “logical bi-simplex of dimension m” (m = n − 1). This theory has received a complete mathematical foundation in 2008, and since then several extensions. In this paper, by using it, we show that in standard deontic logic there are in fact many more oppositional deontic figures than Kalinowski’s unique “hexagon of norms” (more ones, and more complex ones, geometrically speaking: “deontic squares”, “deontic hexagons”, “deontic cubes”, . . ., “deontic tetraicosahedra”, . . .): the real geometry of the oppositions between deontic modalities is composed by the aforementioned structures (squares, hexagons, cubes, . . ., tetraicosahedra and hyper-tetraicosahedra), whose complete mathematical closure happens in fact to be a “deontic 5-dimensional hyper-tetraicosahedron” (an oppositional very regular solid).   相似文献

In the 18th century, Gottfried Ploucquet developed a new syllogistic logic where the categorical forms are interpreted as set-theoretical identities, or diversities, between the full extension, or a non-empty part of the extension, of the subject and the predicate. With the help of two operators ‘O’ (for “Omne”) and ‘Q’ (for “Quoddam”), the UA and PA are represented as ‘O(S) – Q(P)’ and ‘Q(S) – Q(P)’, respectively, while UN and PN take the form ‘O(S) > O(P)’ and ‘Q(S) > O(P)’, where ‘>’ denotes set-theoretical disjointness. The use of the symmetric operators ‘–’ and ‘>’ gave rise to a new conception of conversion which in turn lead Ploucquet to consider also the unorthodox propositions O(S) – O(P), Q(S) – O(P), O(S) > Q(P), and Q(S) > Q(P). Although Ploucquet’s critique of the traditional theory of opposition turns out to be mistaken, his theory of the “Quantification of the Predicate” is basically sound and involves an interesting “Double Square of Opposition”. We consider the two-particle Schrodinger operator H(k) on the one-dimensional lattice ℤ. The operator H(π) has infinitely many eigenvalues zm(π) = v(m), m ∈ ℤ+. If the potential v increases on ℤ+, then only the eigenvalue z0(π) is simple, and all the other eigenvalues are of multiplicity two. We prove that for each of the doubly degenerate eigenvalues zm(π), m ∈ ℕ, the operator H(π) splits into two nondegenerate eigenvalues z m (k) and z m + (k) under small variations of k ∈ (π − δ, π). We show that z m (k) < z m + (k) and obtain an estimate for z m + (k) − z m (k) for k ∈ (π − δ, π). The eigenvalues z0(k) and z 1 (k) increase on [π − δ, π]. If (Δv)(m) > 0, then z m ± (k) for m ≥ 2 also has this property. __________ Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Matematicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 145, No. 2, pp. 212–220, November, 2005.  相似文献

For any (noncommutative) skew field T, the lattice of subgroups of the special linear group Λ=SL(n,T) that contain the subgroup Δ=SD(n,T) of diagonal matrices (with Dieudonné determinants equal to 1) is studied. It is established that for any subgroup H, Δ≤H≤Λ, there exists a uniquely determined unital net σ such that Λ(σ)≤H≤N(σ), where Λ(σ) is the net subgroup associated with the net σ and N(σ) is its normalizer in Λ. LetN α, m equal the number of randomly placed arcs of length α (0<α<1) required to cover a circleC of unit circumferencem times. We prove that limα→0 P(Nα,m≦(1/α) (log (1/α)+mlog log(1/α)+x)=exp ((−1/(m−1)!) exp (−x)). Using this result for m=1, we obtain another derivation of Steutel's resultE(Nα,1)=(1/α) (log(1/α)+log log(1/α)+γ+o(1)) as α→0, γ denoting Euler's constant.  相似文献

Let λ and μ be solid sequence spaces. For a sequence of modulus functions Φ = (ϕ k) let λ(Φ) = {x = (x k ): (ϕk(|x k |)) ∈ λ}. Given another sequence of modulus functions Ψ = (ψk), we characterize the continuity of the superposition operators P f from λ(Φ) into μ (Ψ) for some Banach sequence spaces λ and μ under the assumptions that the moduli ϕk (k ∈ ℕ) are unbounded and the topologies on the sequence spaces λ(Φ) and μ(Ψ) are given by certain F-norms. As applications we consider superposition operators on some multiplier sequence spaces of Maddox type. This research was supported by Estonian Science Foundation Grant 5376.  相似文献

O. CallS:=(S,·,∩) a d-semigroup ifS satisfies the axioms (A1) (S,·) is a semigroup, (A2) (S,∩) is a semilattice (A3), (S,·,∩) is a semiring, (A4) a ≤b⇒bε aS ∩ Sa. Call tεS positive if ÅaεS: ta ≥a≤at. Let S+ denote the set {t‖t positive}. Every d-semigroup is closed under sup and (s,·,∪) is a semiring, (S, ∩, ∪) is a distributive lattice. Denote by D□X the implication s=Xai⇒x□s□y=X(x□ai□y) where □ε{·,∩,∪} and Xε{∪,∩}. CallS continuous ifS satisfies all D□X. The theory of d-semigroups (divisibility-semigroups) was established in [3], [4], [5], and is continued here by some contributions to the theory of continuous d-semigroups the main results of which are the two propositions: (1) LetS be a d-semigroup with 1. ThenS satisfies D□X iffS + satisfies this axiom. (2) LetS be continuous. Then (S,·) is commutative. Obviously Proposition (2) is an improvement of Iwasawa's theorem concerning conditionally complete lattice ordered groups.

Summary This paper is concerned with second order differential systems involving two parameters with boundary conditions specified at three points. In particular, we consider the system y' = k(x, λ, μ)z, z' = -g(x, λ, μ)y, where k and g are real-valued junctions defined on X: a ≤ x ≤ c, L: L1 < λ < L2, and M: M1 < μ < M2. This system is studied together with the boundary conditions α(λ, μ)y(a) - β(λ, μ)z(a)=0, γ(λ, μ)y(b) - δ(λ, μ)z(b)=0, ε1(μ)y(b) - φ1(μ)z(b)=ε2(μ)y(c) - φ2(μ)z(c), where α, β, δ, γ, εi, φi, i=1, 2, are continuous functions of the parameters. This work establishes the existence of eigenvalue pairs for the boundary problem and the oscillatory behavior of the associated solutions. These results complement those previously obtained by the authors and B. D. Sleeman, where boundary conditions of the ? Sturm-Liouville ? type were studied. Entrata in Redazione il 5 dicembre 1977. Let ℌ be a Hilbert space and F(ℌ) be the full Fock space generated by ℌ. For v ∈ ℌ, the (left) creation operator l(v) : F(ℌ) → F(ℌ),f↦ v ⊗ f, and its adjoint, the (left) annihilation operator l(v)*, are defined. If v, w ∈ℌ are orthonormal, it is proved that the spectrum of the operator l(v) + l(w)* is purely continuous and conincides with the closed unit disk. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The spectrum for large sets of pure directed triple systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An LPDTS(ν) is a collection of 3(ν-2) disjoint pure directed triple systems on the same set ofνelements. It is showed in Tian's doctoral thesis that there exists an LPDTS(ν) forν=0,4 (mod 6),ν≥4. In this paper, we establish the existence of an LPDTS(ν) forν= 1,3 (mod 6),ν> 3. Thus the spectrum for LPDTS(ν) is completely determined to be the set {ν:ν= 0, 1 (mod 3),ν≥4}.  相似文献

Let Ω be a countably infinite set, Inj(Ω) the monoid of all injective endomaps of Ω, and Sym(Ω) the group of all permutations of Ω. Also, let f,g,h∈Inj(Ω) be any three maps, each having at least one infinite cycle. (For instance, this holds if f,g,h∈Inj(Ω)∖Sym(Ω).) We show that there are permutations a,b∈Sym(Ω) such that h=afa −1 bgb −1 if and only if |Ω∖(Ω)f|+|Ω∖(Ω)g|=|Ω∖(Ω)h|. We also prove a generalization of this statement that holds for infinite sets Ω that are not necessarily countable.  相似文献
