Equivalent forms of a generalized KKM theorem and their applications

In this paper, we study various types of variational relation problems. We establish the existence of solutions for these types of problems and point out some important particular cases and their applications. We also show that some existence theorems of solution for these types of problems and some existence theorems of variational inclusion problems are equivalent to a generalized KKM theorem. Applying our results we obtain existence theorems of common fixed point, generalized maximal element theorems, a generalized coincidence theorems and a section theorem.     

Existence and structure results on almost periodic solutions of difference equations

We study the almost periodic solutions of Euler equations and of some more general Difference Equations. We consider two different notions of almost periodic sequences, and we establish some relations between them. We build suitable sequences spaces and we prove some properties of these spaces. We also prove properties of Nemytskii operators on these spaces. We build a variational approach to establish existence of almost periodic solutions as critical points, We obtain existence theorems fornonautonomous linear equations and for an Euler equation with a concave and coercive Lagrangian. We also use a Fixed Point approach to obtain existence results for quasi-linear Difference Equations.     

On a New Class of Systems of Generalized Quasi-Variational Inequalities

We introduce new types of systems of generalized quasi-variational inequalities and we prove the existence of the solutions by using results of pair equilibrium existence for free abstract economies. We consider the fuzzy models and we also introduce the random free abstract economy and the random equilibrium pair. The existence of the solutions for the systems of quasi-variational inequalities comes as consequences of the existence of equilibrium pairs for the considered free abstract economies.     

An existence theorem for a generalized self-dual Chern–Simons equation and its application

In this paper, we establish an existence theorem for a generalized self-dual Chern–Simons equation over a doubly periodic domain and use the existence theorem to prove the existence of doubly periodic self-dual vortices in a Maxwell–Chern–Simons model with non-minimal coupling. We find a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of solutions of the generalized Chern–Simons equation. We prove the existence result by using two methods, a super- and sub-solution method and a constrained minimization method. Our main contribution is that we find a general inequality-type constraint by using the second method and it maybe applied to some related problems with the similar structures.     

Self-similar solutions to a generalized Davey–Stewartson system

In this paper we study the global solvability and existence of self-similar solutions to a generalized Davey–Stewartson system. We first use the Banach fixed point theorem to establish a general global existence theorem. By using this general result to a class of special initial data we obtain the existence of global self-similar solutions.     

On the existence of periodic solutions for differential inclusions

In this paper we study the existence of periodic solutions for differential inclusions. We prove existence theorems under various sets of hypotheses for both the nonconvex and convex problems. Also we show the existence of extreme solutions. Some feedback control systems are also considered.     

Multibump solutions for discrete periodic nonlinear Schrödinger equations

In this paper, we study the existence of multibump solutions for discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equations with periodic potentials. We first reduce the existence of multibump homoclinic solutions to the existence of an isolated homoclinic solution with a nontrivial critical group. Then, we study the existence of homoclinics with nontrivial critical groups for both superlinear and asymptotically linear discrete periodic nonlinear Schrödinger equations, and we provide simple sufficient conditions for the existence of homoclinics with nontrivial critical groups in the positive definite case. As an application, we get, without any symmetry assumptions, infinitely many geometrically distinct homoclinic solutions with exponential decay at infinity.     

System of Generalized Vector Quasi-Equilibrium Problems with Applications to Fixed Point Theorems for a Family of Nonexpansive Multivalued Mappings

In this paper, we establish the existence theorems of the generalized vector quasi-equilibrium problems. From some existence theorem, we establish fixed point theorems for a family of lower semicontinuous or nonexpansive multivalued mappings. We also obtain the existence theorems of system of mixed generalized vector variational-like inequalities and existence theorems of the Debreu vector equilibrium problems and the Nash vector equilibrium problems.

On left cancellative semigroups

In this note we shall describe the structure of left cancellative semigroups. We shall also investigate the existence of idempotents and show that the existence of idempotents is related to the existence of maximal proper right ideals.     

Hylomorphic solitons and charged Q-balls: Existence and stability

In this paper we present a general theoretical framework from which several known results (a some new ones) on the existence and stability of solitons can be recovered.We give an abstract definition of solitary wave and soliton and we develope an abstract existence theory. This theory provides a powerful tool to study the existence of solitons for the Klein–Gordon equations as well as for gauge theories. Applying this theory, we prove the existence of a continuous family of stable charged Q-balls.     

On the 2D Cahn–Hilliard Equation with Inertial Term

Galenko et al. proposed a modified Cahn–Hilliard equation to model rapid spinodal decomposition in non-equilibrium phase separation processes. This equation contains an inertial term which causes the loss of any regularizing effect on the solutions. Here we consider an initial and boundary value problem for this equation in a two-dimensional bounded domain. We prove a number of results related to well-posedness and large time behavior of solutions. In particular, we analyze the existence of bounded absorbing sets in two different phase spaces and, correspondingly, we establish the existence of the global attractor. We also demonstrate the existence of an exponential attractor.     

On the solvability of a mathematical model for prion proliferation

We show that a model describing the interaction between normal and infectious prion proteins admits global solutions. More precisely, supposing the involved degradation rates to be bounded, we prove global existence and uniqueness of classical solutions. Based on this existence theory, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of global weak solutions in the case of unbounded splitting rates. Moreover, we prove global stability of the disease-free steady state.     

On the Existence of Positive Eigenvalues for Linear and Nonlinear Equations with Indefinite Weight

We prove the existence of positive eigenvalues for two types of equations having an indefinite weight. We consider the linear case, and we show the existence of a positive principal eigenvalue corresponding to a positive eigenfunction. For the nonlinear case, we show that the set of positive eigenvalues is an unbounded interval, and that the corresponding eigenfunctions are positive.     

Existence of Solutions and Algorithms for Bilevel Vector Equilibrium Problems: An Auxiliary Principle Technique

The main goal of this paper is to introduce and study bilevel vector equilibrium problems. We first establish some existence results for solutions of vector equilibrium problems and mixed vector equilibrium problems. We study the existence of solutions of bilevel vector equilibrium problems by considering a vector Thikhonov-type regularization procedure. By using this regularization procedure and existence results for mixed vector equilibrium problems, we establish some existence results for solutions of bilevel vector equilibrium problems. By using the auxiliary principle, we propose an algorithm for finding the approximate solutions of bilevel vector equilibrium problems. The strong convergence of the proposed algorithm is also studied.     

Global convergence of a kinetic model of chemotaxis to a perturbed Keller–Segel model

We consider a class of kinetic models of chemotaxis with two positive non-dimensional parameters coupled to a parabolic equation of the chemo-attractant. If both parameters are set equal zero, we have the classical Keller–Segel model for chemotaxis. We prove global existence of solutions of this two-parameters kinetic model and prove convergence of this model to models of chemotaxis with global existence when one of these two parameters is set equal zero. In one case, we find as a limit model a kinetic model of chemotaxis while in the other case we find a perturbed Keller–Segel model with global existence of solutions.

On a zero equation model of turbulence

In this paper we study a widely used zero equation model of turbulence. The governing equations are derived by applying to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations the Reynolds time averaging procedure. We achieve closure by employing the eddy viscosity concept. Using the Implicit Function Theorem we obtain an existence and uniquencess result. We also discuss the existence of nonsingular solutions. Finally, we present an algorithm for solving the modeled equations.     

Optimal control of a two-dimensional contact problem

We consider a frictionless contact problem with unilateral constraints for a 2D bar. We describe the problem, then we derive its weak formulation, which is in the form of an elliptic variational inequality of the first kind. Next, we establish the existence of a unique weak solution to the problem and prove its continuous dependence with respect to the applied tractions and constraints. We proceed with the study of an associated control problem for which we prove the existence of an optimal pair. Finally, we consider a perturbed optimal control problem for which we prove a convergence result.
