In this paper, a singular semilinear elliptic problem involving the critical Sobolev exponent is studied by variational method, the existence of a solution is proved under certain conditions. The Hardy inequality is used and plays an important role in the discussion.     

Heteroclinic solutions for a difference equation involving the mean curvature operator

By using critical point theory, the existence of heteroclinic solutions for a second-order difference equation involving the mean curvature operator is obtained, and the values of solutions at $-\infty$ and $+\infty$ are more general than existing results in the literature. An example is presented to demonstrate the applicability of our main results.

Existence results of solutions for anti-periodic fractional Langevin equation

Recently, Khalili and Yadollahzadeh [ Y. Khalili and M. Yadollahzadeh, Existence results for a new class of nonlinear Langevin equations of fractional orders, Iranian J. Sci. Tech., Trans. A: Sci., 2019, 43(5), 2335–2342] have investigated the uniqueness and existence of solution $u(t),~t\in[0,1]$ for a class of nonlocal boundary conditions to fractional Langevin equation. The authors used the boundary condition $u"(0)=0$ by incorrect method. In the current contribution, we show the correct method for using this condition and study the existence and uniqueness of solution for the same class of equation in slightly different form with anti-periodic and nonlocal integral boundary conditions as well as the boundary condition $u"(0)=0$. An exemplar is provided to illustrate our results.     

Existence of multiple solutions for a second-order difference equation with a parameter

Applying the critical point theorem, we establish existence and multiple solutions for a second-order difference boundary value problem and show the explicit intervals of λ such that the equation has at least 2N distinct solutions.

Solving the nonnegative solution for a (shifted) nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equation in the critical case

We are interested in computing the nonnegative solution of a nonsymmetric algebraic Riccati equation arising in transport theory. The coefficient matrices of this equation have two parameters c and α. There have been some iterative methods presented by Lu in [13] and Bai et al. in [2] to solve the minimal positive solution for or . While the equation has a unique nonnegative solution when c=1 and α=0, all the methods presented by Lu and Bai cannot be used to find the nonnegative solution. To cope with this problem, a shifted technique is used in this paper to transform the original Riccati equation into a new one so that all the methods can be effectively employed to solve the nonnegative solution. Numerical experiments are given to illustrate the results.

Convergence of the solution of a nonsymmetric matrix Riccati differential equation to its stable equilibrium solution

We consider the initial value problem for a nonsymmetric matrix Riccati differential equation, where the four coefficient matrices form an M-matrix. We show that for a wide range of initial values the Riccati differential equation has a global solution X(t) on [0,∞) and X(t) converges to the stable equilibrium solution as t goes to infinity.     

Existence for a doubly nonlinear Volterra equation

We consider a doubly nonlinear Volterra equation involving a nonsmooth kernel and two possibly degenerate monotone operators. By exploiting an implicit time-discretization procedure, we obtain the existence of a global strong solution and extend to the nonlocal in time situation some former results by Colli [P. Colli, On some doubly nonlinear evolution equations in Banach spaces, Japan J. Indust. Appl. Math. 9 (2) (1992) 181-203].
