Cost-effective modeling strategies for the analysis of spliced steel connections

The paper presents several cost-effective modeling strategies that can be used by structural engineers in practice to determine the stresses in the spliced members. The computational efficiency and the modeling effort required for the several modeling options are also discussed. The deformation mechanisms and load transfer for several types of connections are illustrated. Optimization techniques are also presented to economize the computer time for connections with large number of bolts. Results are presented to compare the accuracy of several modeling strategies commonly used in practice. It is shown that for eccentric connections, the flexural bending largely affect the maximum tensile and compressive stresses within the joint. The difference may reach up to 54%. Finally, Experimental comparisons are made with the numerical procedures for typical connection model.

Theory of several paravector variables: Bochner-Martinelli formula and Hartogs theorem

The aim of this article is to extend the theory of several complex variables to the non-commutative realm. Some basic results, such as the Bochner-Martinelli formula, the existence theorem of the solutions to the non-homogeneous Cauchy-Riemann equations, and the Hartogs theorem, are generalized from complex analysis in several variables to Clifford analysis in several paravector variables. In particular, the Bochner-Martinelli formula in several paravector variables unifies the corresponding formulas in the theory of one complex variable, several complex variables, and several quaternionic variables with suitable modifications.

弹性力学变分原理的泛函变换可分为三种格式:Ⅰ、放松格式,Ⅱ、增广格式,Ⅲ、等价格式. 根据格式Ⅲ,提出含多个任意参数的广义变分原理及其泛函表示式,其中包括:以位移u为一类泛函变量的多参数广义变分原理;以位移u和应力σ为二类泛函变量的多参数广义变分原理;以位移u和应变ε为二类泛函变量的多参数广义变分原理;以位移u应变ε和应力σ为三类泛函变量的多参数广义变分原理.由这些原理可得出等价泛函一系列新形式,此外,通过参数的合理选择,可构造出一系列有限元模型. 本文还讨论了拉氏乘子法“失效”问题,指出“失效”现象产生的原因,提出乘子法“恢复有效”的作法——换元乘子法.     

Peg solitaire on graphs

There have been several papers on the subject of traditional peg solitaire on different boards. However, in this paper we consider a generalization of the game to arbitrary boards. These boards are treated as graphs in the combinatorial sense. We present necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of several well-known families of graphs. In the major result of this paper, we show that the cartesian product of two solvable graphs is likewise solvable. Several related results are also presented. Finally, several open problems related to this study are given.

Computing the spectral function for singular Sturm–Liouville problems

Algorithms for computing Sturm–Liouville spectral density functions are developed based on several mathematical characterizations. Convergence and error bounds are derived and methods are tested on several examples. The results are compared with those from the existing software package SLEDGE.     

Discrete Optimization and Control in the Market

Multistage discrete dynamical systems are investigated in finite space of state variables. Optimal control of several levels orders in the market is presented. Discrete optimal control model is used for the investigation of several levels orders in the market. Dynamic programming equations are used for the approximation of optimal control.     

Conservative confidence intervals based on weighted means statistics

For weighted means estimators of the common mean of several normal populations associated (conservative) confidence intervals are constructed. These intervals are compared to several traditional confidence bounds. Monte Carlo simulation results of these comparisons are reported.     

Asymptotic and Oscillatory Behavior of Solutions of First Order Neutral Differential Equations

This paper has made researches on first order neutral differential equations with variable coefficients and several deviations. The asymptotic behavior of nonoscillatory solutions of the equations are discussed. Necessary and sufficient conditions and several sufficient conditions for the oscillations of the equations are obtained. The relevent results in [1—3] are improved and generalized .     

Second-order optimality conditions using approximations for nonsmooth vector optimization problems under inclusion constraints

Second-order necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for optimality in nonsmooth vector optimization problems with inclusion constraints are established. We use approximations as generalized derivatives and avoid even continuity assumptions. Convexity conditions are not imposed explicitly. Not all approximations in use are required to be bounded. The results improve or include several recent existing ones. Examples are provided to show that our theorems are easily applied in situations where several known results do not work.     

LMI Approximations for the Radius of the Intersection of Ellipsoids: Survey

This paper surveys various linear matrix inequality relaxation techniques for evaluating the maximum norm vector within the intersection of several ellipsoids. This difficult nonconvex optimization problem arises frequently in robust control synthesis. Two randomized algorithms and several ellipsoidal approximations are described. Guaranteed approximation bounds are derived in order to evaluate the quality of these relaxations.     

Stability problem for the composite type functional equations

Composite type functional equations in several variables play a significant role in various branches of mathematics and they have several interesting applications. Therefore their stability properties are of interest. The aim of this paper is to present a survey of some results and methods concerning stability of several of such equations; especially those somehow connected to the well known Go??b–Schinzel equation.     

An empirical study of hybrid genetic algorithms for the set covering problem

The purpose of this paper is to explore the computational performance of several hybrid algorithms that are extensions of a basic genetic algorithm (GA) approach for solving the set covering problem (SCP). We start by making several enhancements to a GA for the SCP that was proposed by Beasley and Chu. Next, several hybrid solution approaches are introduced that combine the GA with various local neighbourhood search approaches, with a form of the greedy randomized adaptive search procedure, and with an estimation of distribution algorithms approach. Using Beasley's library of SCPs extensive computational results are generated for the hybrid solution approaches defined in this paper. Statistical analyses of the results are performed.
