Optically polished crystalline quartz samples were implanted at room temperature by 2.6 MeV Ni+ ions with a dose of 9×1014 ions/cm2 and 2.0 MeV He+ ions with a dose of 1.5×1016 ions/cm2, respectively. A comparison of the MeV Ni+ ion-implanted planar waveguide formation was made with the MeV He+ ion-implanted one. The prism-coupling method was carried out to measure the dark modes in the quartz waveguides by using model 2010 prism coupler. Five modes were observed in the Ni+ implanted waveguide while 15 modes were found in the He+ ion-implanted one. Reflectivity calculation method was applied to fitting the refractive index profile. TRIM’98 (transport of ions in matter) code was used to simulate the damage profile in quartz by MeV Ni+ and He+ ions implantation, respectively. It is found that the refractive index profile in MeV Ni+ ions implanted waveguide is somewhat different in shape from that in MeV He+ ions implanted waveguide.  相似文献

We present a nondestructive technique to predict the refractive index profiles of isotropic planar waveguides, on which a thin gold film is deposited to as the cladding. The negative dielectric constant of the metal results in significant differences of effective indices between TE and TM modes. The two polarized modes and a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with abundant information of the surface index can be used to construct the refractive index profiles of single-mode and two-mode waveguides at a fixed wavelength.  相似文献

在能量为(0.5+0.55)MeV和剂量为(1.0+2.0)×10^16 ions/cm^2的条件下,通过氢离子注入制备了掺Yb^3+磷酸盐玻璃波导,并研究了该波导在近红外波段的特性.棱镜耦合法测量的离子注入波导的导模的有效折射率与反射计算法计算的有效折射率基本吻合.通过模拟辐照引起的空位分布,探讨了离子注入平面波导的形成理论.利用FD-BPM对波导中的传播模式进行了模拟,结果表明高能量的氢离子注入掺Yb 3+磷酸盐玻璃能够制备出近红外波导结构.  相似文献

Single-mode waveguides in LiNbO3 are demonstrated by use of prism coupling method. The waveguides are fabricated by three different energies and single energy C2+ implantations at the equal total doses, respectively. Dark modes and propagation loss are measured by use of prism coupling and moving fiber methods, respectively. Damages produced by implantation are measured by RBS/channeling technique. The waveguide structures are investigated in two different implantation cases. The results of analysis indicate that the heavy ion-implanted waveguides are still defined by synergetic characteristics from both the raised-index region and the low-index barrier. The broadened barrier from multienergy implantation is demonstrated to play a significant role in reducing propagation loss.  相似文献

Ag+-Na+ and K+-Na+ ion-exchanged optical waveguides in soda-lime glass are characterised by ellipsometry. Refractive index profiles of the waveguides are calculated from ellipsometric multiple angle of incidence data using the Newton-Kantorovitch type iterative procedure and compared with those reconstructed by inverse WKB method. It is demonstrated that such continuous profiles with relatively small index gradient (of the order of 0.1 and 0.01), extending to few micrometers in depth, can be determined by ellipsometric measurements. A good agreement is found between results obtained by ellipsometry and by the inverse WKB method at depths above 500–600 nm, while there is a difference in the subsurface region, where ellipsometry is more sensitive to the quality of the surface. The profiles obtained by the two methods are consistent if the surface thin layer is etched.  相似文献

This work reports, for the first time to our knowledge, the formation of planar waveguides in Nd:YVO4 by either carbon or proton implantation. The waveguides are characterised using the dark mode method and by spectroscopic studies, indicating that there is a reduction of the refractive index at the end of the ion track. Particularly, carbon implantation generates a considerable variation in the guiding region. It is shown that the waveguiding structure preserves the spectroscopic properties of the Nd3+ ions, thus maintaining the crystal quality.  相似文献

By using V-prism refractometer, the refractive indices of a polyetherketone (PEK-c) guest–host polymer system were measured with the polymer in solutions. The Lorenz–Lorentz local field formalism was used in the calculation of the refractive indices of the polymers from the measured indices of the polymer solutions and the pure solvent by using V-prism refractometer. The refractive index dispersions of the polymers were obtained by fitting the measured indices of the polymers to Sellmeyer equation. The method allows for an accuracy in index of 0.7% in the determination of the polymer indices. In addition, a large difference between the indices of the polymer and the solvent, and a higher polymer volume fraction in the measured polymer solution are favorable for a high accuracy.  相似文献

In this study, channel waveguides fabricated in photopolymer films by direct-writing using a low-power CW laser, are used as phase objects in a simple plane-wave diffraction setup, and the refractive index modulation profiles of the waveguides are characterized using the recorded diffraction patterns. Index profiles are modeled by piece-wisely combining two Gaussian functions representing the central and the tail regions. Measured diffraction patterns are matched with patterns generated using the model. This simple model makes it possible to design various channel waveguides embedded into polymer substrates. The proposed model is tested on three distinctive waveguide profiles written on the same Acrylamide/Polyvinyl Alcohol based photopolymer with different exposures.  相似文献

A highly efficient non-linear optical organometallic compound zinc cadmium thiocyanate (ZCTC) single crystal was grown by solvent evaporation method. The as grown single crystals were implanted with 45 keV N5+ ions having energy at various fluencies of 1 × 1015, 5 × 1015, 1 × 1016 and 5 × 1016 ions/cm2. The surface modification induced by the ion implantation was studied using scanning electron microscopy. The UV spectrum shows an increase in absorbance with the increase in the dosage of the ions implanted. There is a red shift in the cut off wavelength due to implantation which may be attributed to the lattice damage produced during implantation. From the Raman spectra, it is observed that there is no shift in the peak positions or any extra peaks due to implantation confirming that the nitrogen ions are not substituted into the lattice. The FWHM, area and intensity of the Raman peak corresponding to CN stretching vibration were calculated and the influence of ion implantation on these parameters was discussed. The effect of implantation on the PL spectra was analysed and discussed in detail. The change in refractive index of the sample due to implantation was reported.  相似文献

Eight LiNbO3: Ti waveguides have been fabricated under differing conditions. The effective refractive indices of guided modes have been measured and successfully fitted to Gaussian index profiles. We reported for what is to be believed the first time a double optical waveguide in a Cu-doped potassium sodium strontium barium niobate (KNSBN) crystal formed by double boron ion implantation. The energy and dose of B+ and B3+ ions were (3+6) MeV and (2+2)×1014 ions/cm2, respectively. The refractive index profile of the waveguide showed a double-barrier confined shape, which suggested the formation of a two-layer waveguide structure. The two waveguide layers were with thickness of 2.6 and 2 μm, respectively, which was in a good agreement with the parameters obtained from transport and range of ions in matter 98 (TRIM) code simulation. The nuclear energy loss distribution of the MeV B ions implanted into this crystal had a similar shape to that of the waveguide index profile, which means an inherent relationship between the waveguide formation and the energetic energy deposition.  相似文献

In this work, we report the investigation of 2D photonic crystals in lithium niobate associated with waveguiding structures fabricated by He+ implantation. From the material point of view, the investigation of PBG structures in lithium niobate is of great interest for optoelectronics technology since this crystal is one of the most important materials widely used in integrated and non linear optics. The choice of the implantation technique to produce the waveguide is motivated by the possibility of having both Transverse Electric (TE) and Transverse Magnetic (TM) guided modes in order to obtain a total photonic band gap (PBG).  相似文献

 高功率微波在电离层中的传播特性主要由其折射率的变化决定,而高功率微波的大气折射率与相应传输层面的电子浓度有关。结合电离层电子浓度分布模型对电子浓度和大气折射率进行了数值模拟,对电离层折射率以及折射率垂直梯度相对于高度的变化特性进行了分析。结合射线描迹法对高功率微波波束传播高度、仰角和距离进行了修正,并在低功率微波下进行实验验证,证实修正值更接近实际值。  相似文献

We have investigated the sensitivity of arc-induced long-period gratings to changes of ambient refractive index. Two pure-silica-core fibres with different cladding diameters and a standard fibre were used in this study. For a 6 × 10−3 change of the refractive index, a 240 pm shift of the resonant wavelength was achieved with long-period gratings written in the 125 μm cladding diameter pure-silica-core fibre.  相似文献

The refractive indices (n) of eight standard oils from Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, Germany were determined with an accuracy of ±1×10−4 by using Abbe Refractometer. The measurements were performed at temperature 20°C in the spectral range 0.4–0.7 μm. The experimental data were fitted to the simple Cauchy dispersion formula and the results were found to be consistent within the limits of experimental error. In all cases, the refractive index decreased monotonically with increasing wavelength. The refractive indices (n) of these oils have been measured as a function of the temperature t (20°C up to 50°C) at λ=0.589 μm and were found to have linear temperature dependencies. The refractive indices of the studied oils and the uncertainty in their values are calculated at λ=0.589. The Lorentz–Lorenz (L–L) formula has been tested and it was found to be valid with a maximum deviation of 0.4% and was used to calculate the molecular polarizability θ.  相似文献

We reported on planar waveguides in stoichiometric lithium niobate fabricated by 4.5 MeV oxygen ion implantation with a dose of 6 × 1014 ions/cm2 at room temperature. After ion implantation, these samples were annealed at 240 °C, 260 °C, and 300 °C for 30 min. We investigated annealing effect on the guiding modes and near-field images in the waveguides by prism-coupling method and end-face coupling method respectively. We found that for the extraordinary refractive index a positive alternation occurred in the near-surface region while a negative alternation happened at the end of ion track. Moreover, we measured the transmission spectra for the pure sample and implanted samples before and after annealed at different temperatures, and we observed an absorption peak at ∼480 nm (2.6 eV) in all of these SLN samples.  相似文献

基于波导光栅共振原理和古斯-汉欣(Goos-Hänchen)位移理论,提出一种表面覆膜波导光栅传感结构,并研究其共振光谱特性。通过在光栅表面涂覆低折射率聚合物功能膜层优化其共振光谱特性,选用多孔硅作为待测物承载单元,可以使光学探针更充分地接触待测样本,从而提高其检测性能。根据波导光栅共振相位条件,建立了共振波长和样本折射率之间的数学模型,通过检测共振位置的改变进而对样本浓度进行检测。研究表明,该表面覆膜波导光栅传感结构具有线型对称和窄线宽的共振光谱特性,可实现高品质因数(Q值)和高灵敏度的传感特性,其Q值为1 488,对折射率的检测极限可达5×10-4 RIU(RIU为折射率单位)。通过检测不同浓度的葡萄糖溶液对其传感特性进行验证分析,结果表明,共振波长与葡萄糖溶液浓度之间具有良好的线性关系,对葡萄糖溶液的检测灵敏度为1.12nm/1%,证明了该表面覆膜波导光栅传感结构的有效性,可以用于对低浓度样本溶液的实时动态监测,并为波长调制型光学折射率传感器的研究提供理论指导。  相似文献
