This paper deals with the structure of semiprime rings for which the indices of the nilpotent elements are bounded. It is shown that the complete right ring of quotients of such a ring is a regular, right self-injective ring in which each finitely generated ideal is generated by a central idempotent. The indices of the nilpotent elements of the factor ring of such a ring with respect to a minimal prime ideal do not exceed the upper bound of the indices of the nilpotent elements of the original ring. A criterion for the regularity (in the sense of von Neumann) of such rings is obtained. Also investigated are right completely idempotent rings with bounded indices of nilpotent elements (it is shown, in particular, that each nonzero ideal of such a ring contains a nonzero central idempotent).Translated from Trudy Seminara imeni I. This note is a natural sequel to [8] and [9]. Further characteristic properties of arbitrary von Neumann regular rings and strongly regular rings are given in terms of annihilators and simple modules. A prime ring with certain annihilator conditions is shown to be primitive (this is related to the following problem ofKaplansky: Are prime regular rings primitive?). Necessary and sufficient conditions for leftq-rings to be regular are also considered: For example, a leftq-ring is regular iff every simple rightA-module is flat. A sufficient condition is given for a leftqc-ring to be a uniserial, strongly left and strongly rightqc, left and rightq-ring. One of the main results ofJain, Mohamed andSingh onq-rings [5, Theorem 2.13] is generalised. Finally, it is shown that a prime left continuous ring either has zero socle or is primitive, left self-injective regular.  相似文献

The notion of a simple ring DGderived from a group ring KG is introduced in case K is a field and G is an infinite residually finite group. The close link between DGand KG is exploited in both directions: first, for a simple proof of the Kaplansky's conjecture concerning direct finiteness of KG. Second, to show that DGprovides counter-examples to some conjectures dealing with von Neumann regular rings and the rings all of whose one-sided ideals are generated by idempotents.  相似文献

We study radicals which coincide on artinian rings with Jacobson semisimple rings or equivalently with von Neumann regular rings. Exact lower and upper bounds for strong coincidence are given. For weak coincidence the exact lower bound is that for strong coincidence. We determine the smallest homomorphically closed class which contains all radicals coinciding in the weak sense with the von Neumann regular radical on artinian rings, but we do not know even the existence of the upper bound for weak coincidence. A ring R is said to be von Newmann local (VNL) if for any a ∈ R, either a or 1 ?a is (von Neumann) regular. The class of VNL rings lies properly between exchange rings and (von Neumann) regular rings. We characterize abelian VNL rings. We also characterize and classify arbitrary VNL rings without an infinite set of orthogonal idempotents; and also the VNL rings having a primitive idempotent e such that eRe is not a division ring. We prove that a semiperfect ring R is VNL if and only if for any right uni-modular row (a 1, a 2) ∈ R 2, one of the a i 's is regular in R. Formal triangular matrix rings that are VNL are also characterized. As a corollary, it is shown that an upper triangular matrix ring T n (R) is VNL if and only if n = 2 or 3 and R is a division ring.  相似文献

We show that a strong form (the fully faithful version) of the generating hypothesis, introduced by Freyd in algebraic topology, holds in the derived category of a ring R if and only if R is von Neumann regular. This extends results of the second author (J. Pure Appl. Algebra 208(2), 2007). We also characterize rings for which the original form (the faithful version) of the generating hypothesis holds in the derived category of R. These must be close to von Neumann regular in a precise sense, and, given any of a number of finiteness hypotheses, must be von Neumann regular. However, we construct an example of such a ring that is not von Neumann regular and therefore does not satisfy the strong form of the generating hypothesis.  相似文献

We prove a cancellation theorem for simple refinement monoids satisfying the weak comparability condition, first introduced by K.C. O'Meara in the context of von Neumann regular rings. This result is then applied to von Neumann regular rings and -algebras of real rank zero via the monoid of isomorphism classes of finitely generated projective modules.

Many results on going-down domains and divided domains are generalized to the context of rings with von Neumann regular total quotient rings. A (commutative unital) ring R is called regular divided if each P ∈ Spec(R)?(Max(R) ∩ Min(R)) is comparable with each principal regular ideal of R. Among rings having von Neumann regular total quotient rings, the regular divided rings are the pullbacks K× K/P D where K is von Neumann regular, P ∈ Spec(K) and D is a divided domain. Any regular divided ring (for instance, regular comparable ring) with a von Neumann regular total quotient ring is a weak Baer going-down ring. If R is a weak Baer going-down ring and T is an extension ring with a von Neumann regular total quotient ring such that no regular element of R becomes a zero-divisor in T, then R ? T satisfies going-down. If R is a weak Baer ring and P ∈ Spec(R), then R + PR (P) is a going-down ring if and only if R/P and R P are going-down rings. The weak Baer going-down rings R such that Spec(R)?Min(R) has a unique maximal element are characterized in terms of the existence of suitable regular divided overrings.  相似文献

We study when exchange rings are von Neumann regular. An exchange ring R with primitive factors Artinian is von Neumann regular, if the Jacobson radical of any indecomposable homomorphic image of R is T-nilpotent, and if any indecomposable homomorphic image of R is semiprime. Every indecomposable semiprimitive factor ring of R is regular, if R is an exchange ring such that every left primitive factor ring of R is a ring of index at most n and if R has nil-property.  相似文献

Lifting idempotents modulo ideals is an important tool in studying the structure of rings. This paper lays out the consequences of lifting other properties modulo ideals, including lifting of von Neumann regular elements, lifting isomorphic idempotents, and lifting conjugate idempotents. Applications are given for IC rings, perspective rings, and Dedekind-finite rings, which improve multiple results in the literature. We give a new characterization of the class of exchange rings; they are rings where regular elements lift modulo all left ideals.We also uncover some hidden connections between these lifting properties. For instance, if regular elements lift modulo an ideal, then so do isomorphic idempotents. The converse is true when units lift. The logical relationships between these and several other important lifting properties are completely characterized. Along the way, multiple examples are developed that illustrate limitations to the theory.  相似文献

Let R be a ring whose total ring of quotients Q is von Neumann regular. We investigate the structure of R when it admits an ideal that is irreducible as a submodule of the total ring of quotients. We characterize those rings which contain a maximal ideal that is irreducible in its total ring of quotients Q. An integral domain has a Q-irreducible ideal which is a maximal ideal if and only if R is a valuation domain. We show that when the total ring of quotients of R is von Neumann regular, then having a maximal ideal that is Q-irreducible is equivalently to certain valuation like properties, including the property that the regular ideals are linearly ordered.  相似文献

The main results are the following: a characterization of von Neumann regular rings which are two-sided FI-extending is given; sufficient conditions for direct summands of FI-extending modules to be FI-extending are obtained; and at last, a necessary and sufficient condition for nonsingular modules over nonsingular rings to be FI-extending is given.  相似文献

All rings are commutative with identity, and all modules are unital. The purpose of this article is to investigate multiplication von Neumann regular modules. For this reason we introduce the concept of nilpotent submodules generalizing nilpotent ideals and then prove that a faithful multiplication module is von Neumann regular if and only if it has no nonzero nilpotent elements and its Krull dimension is zero. We also give a new characterization for the radical of a submodule of a multiplication module and show in particular that the radical of any submodule of a Noetherian multiplication module is a finite intersection of prime submodules.  相似文献

It is obvious that OF and Von Neumann regular rings have monomorphic flat envelopes. In this paper we completely describe the structure,in terms of OF and Von Neumann regular rings, of those commutative rings all of whose modules have a monomorphic flat envelope (m.f.e. ). For that, we introduce the notion of locally QF ring with m.f.e., whose structure is given in terms of OF rings. It turns out that a commutative ring R with m.f.e. is characterized as a (essential) subdirect product of a locally QF ring with m.f.e. and a Von Neumann regular ring, with the latter flat as an R-module.  相似文献
