In order to find a clean, efficient and sustainable new energy source that can replace fossil fuels, hydrogen energy is considered to be the most ideal choice. Electrocatalytic oxygen evolution plays a vital role in the development of hydrogen energy, promotes the research of new electrocatalysts, and is dedicated to find materials with high electrocatalytic efficiency. This article discusses in detail the major developments in OER electrocatalysts, including recently reported metal and non-metal based materials. Metal-based catalysts, although having the advantages of high catalytic activity, have disadvantages such as poor stability and low selectivity, which hinder the further application of such materials. Non-metallic based materials avoid such disadvantages and exhibit very substantial performance in overall water decomposition. This review provides useful knowledge of a well-designed OER electrocatalyst and a possible strategy for OER/HER dual-function catalytic performance for future development.  相似文献

Interfacial layers have been widely applied to study the formation and stability of emulsion-based systems. However, the application of isolated interfaces to address digestibility of emulsions is often limited because of the complexity of experimental methods and results. This review summarizes the latest developments in analytical methods and literature data on effects of digestion on interfacial layers. Particular emphasis is given to understand the changes on interfacial magnitudes during oral, gastric, and duodenal digestion, either applied separately or sequentially. Limitations of interfacial aspects and key factors that influence emulsion microstructure in bulk and lipid digestion are identified. Understanding the behavior of interfacial layers upon gastrointestinal digestion promotes an accurate tracking of the physiological fate of emulsions.  相似文献

Point-of-need (PON) diagnostics offer promising methods to gather information relevant to health and safety on-site without the requirement for a fully equipped laboratory. In this review, we discuss how liquid-infused surfaces offer a promising platform to expand the capabilities of PON devices in the areas of biological sample preparation and system integration, providing new methods of controlling the movement of droplets and facilitating detection of biological and chemical compounds contained therein. Modifications to the underlying surface structure can be used to passively control the direction of droplet movement, and the careful selection of responsive solid substrates and/or overlying liquids can allow active control through induced temperature gradients, electrical stimulation, and exposure to magnetic fields. Recent work leveraging other advantages of liquid-infused systems such as ultra-low friction, noncoalescence of droplets, and liquid–liquid patterning has demonstrated the unique ways in which this approach can be used to both enhance current detection methods as well as enable new ones. Together, these recent developments in the manipulation of droplets on liquid-infused surfaces point to their significant potential for furthering the capacity of PON devices for both biological and environmental samples.  相似文献

Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is now a widely implemented thin film growing method. It is currently used in industrial fabrication processes of microelectronics and luminescent display technologies. Since compact and conformal films can be grown with perfect control of the thickness, ALD is envisioned in numerous other applications fields such as energy, sensing, biomaterials, and photonics. Although few reports can be found on its application to corrosion protection, it has been shown that the qualities of ALD can be highly beneficial to this field. After a brief review of the principle of ALD and the effect of the main parameters on the properties of the films, this report attempts to show the interest of this technique to mitigate corrosion. Various examples of successful uses of ALD to protect metallic and non-metallic surfaces in different fields are reviewed.  相似文献

Phthalocyanine (Pc) complexes are an important class of dyes with numerous (e.g., biological, photophysical, and analytical) applications. Among the methods used to improve the properties of these complexes, one should mention the introduction of different substituents, variation of the central metal ion, ligand exchange, and conjugation to nanomaterials (e.g., carbon-based nanomaterials and metal nanoparticles (NPs)). This work briefly reviews Pc complex conjugation to Ag and Au NPs, highlights the different NP shapes, and discusses the diversity of conjugation approaches. Moreover, the use of UV–Vis spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, dynamic light scattering and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to characterize Pc-NP hybrids is summarized. The effect of conjugation on Pc photo-physicochemical properties (fluorescence, singlet oxygen generation, triplet state formation, and optical limiting behavior) is discussed, and future perspectives for the synthesis and applications of new hybrids are provided.  相似文献

This paper presents the effect of infill patterns (IPs) on the mechanical response of 3D printed specimens by conducting the low-velocity impact test (LVI) and compression test. The poly-lactic acid (PLA, purity 98 wt% >) material has selected and printed using fused deposition modeling (FDM, speed 20 mm/s, layer height 0.2 mm, no of layers 30, extruded at 200 °C) with four different IPs: triangle, grid, quarter cubic, and tri-hexagon. The LVI test on velocity-time, energy-time and force-displacement, and the compression responses have examined and presented in this study. The LVI test was carried out to determine the penetration energy level, energy absorption capacity (toughness), stiffness, and strength of PLA porous parts (60% infill density) for implant/tissue/recyclable product applications. The results have shown that the triangular pattern has produced the highest absorbed energy in LVI test (penetration energy 7.5 J, and stiffness 668.82 N/mm) due to more sheared/contact layers’ perpendicular to impactor (hemispherical insert); while the grid pattern exhibited the highest compressive strength (72 MPa) due to more layers aligned along the compressive loading direction The SEM fracture surface image of Triangular IP has produced effective raster and layer bonding, less number of voids, more amount of circular beach markings, and absence of ratchet lines leading to possess improved mechanical properties.  相似文献

Biomimetic colloidal particles are promising agents for biosensing, but current technologies fall far short of Nature's capabilities for sensing, assessing, and responding to stimuli. Phospholipid-containing cell membranes are capable of binding and responding to an enormous variety of biomolecules by virtue of membrane organization and the presence of receptor proteins. By tuning the composition and functionalization of simulated membranes, soft colloids such as droplets and bubbles can be designed to respond to various stimuli. Moreover, because lipid monolayers can surround almost any hydrophobic phase, the interior of the colloid can be selected to provide a sensitive readout, for example in the form of optical microscopy or acoustic detection. In this work, we review some advances made by our group and others in the formulation of lipid-coated particles with different internal phases such as fluorocarbons, hydrocarbons, or liquid crystals. In some cases, binding or displacement of stabilizing lipids gives rise to conformational changes or disruptions in local membrane geometry, which can be amplified by the interior phase. In other cases, multivalent analytes can promote aggregation or even membrane fusion, which can be utilized for an optical or acoustic readout. By highlighting a few recent examples, we hope to show that lipid monolayers represent a versatile biosensing platform that can react to and detect biomolecules by leveraging the unique capabilities of phospholipid membranes.  相似文献

We review the currently available material on the morphology and dynamics of phospholipids assembled into liposomes. Key information obtained from neutron scattering, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and other techniques plays a crucial role in understanding the vital role of lipids in sustaining life in living organisms. We concentrate on the dynamics in the biologically important fluid phase in the time range from picoseconds to seconds, which includes a discussion of the center of mass diffusion of liposomes, membrane fluctuations; and lateral, rotational, and flip-flop motions of the lipids. We emphasize on the sensitivity of the dynamics on interactions with a variety of biologically relevant molecules such as cholesterol. By a comparison of data from literature, we witness a good agreement of the results from different techniques and studies.  相似文献

Halogenated inhibitors showed robust, reversible, and selective monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) inhibitory efficacy in candidates that were derived from them. Our team has previously synthesized and assessed a panel of halogenated chalcones and coumarin for the study on MAO-B inhibition. The aim of this study was to build GA-MLR based QSAR models and predictive 3D Pharmacophore models, as well as to investigate the relationship between halogenated derivatives and MAO-B inhibitory activity. The robust statistical significance in the parameter (R2 = 0.78 and Q2 = 0.69) was demonstrated. Best Hypo1 contains one hydrophobic and two aromatic rings. The lead molecule for quantum mechanics was performed, and it was revealed that it would bind to proteins and provide stability. To determine the stability of the ligand-enzyme complex, a thorough molecular dynamics analysis of the lead compounds was accomplished.  相似文献

IntroductionScientific evidence about biological profile of natural products can support their traditional uses. The current work was aimed to assess phytochemical and biological profile of nine medicinal plants collected from Herbalists.MethodsExtracts prepared in different solvents were subjected to phytochemical, antioxidant, enzyme inhibitory, cytotoxic, and antimicrobial activities. Reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) analysis was performed for the quantification of polyphenols.ResultsResults showed methanol extract (M) being potent as compared to others. Gentian lutea M showed maximum extract recovery (15.00 ± 0.11 % w/w) and TFC (30.82 ± 0.21 μg QE/mg extract). Nigella sativa M displayed highest TPC (44.99 ± 0.43 μg GAE/mg extract) and TAC (334.72 ± 0.35 μg AAE/ mg extract). Results showed noteworthy quantities of vanillic acid, rutin, kaempferol, emodin in ethyl acetate (EA) and methanol (M) extracts of plants assessed by RP-HPLC. Gentisic acid was highest (11.75 µg/mg extract) in T. arjuna M extract. Similarly, maximum %FRSA (82.28 ± 0.03 %) and TRP (160.40 ± 0.38 μg AAE/ mg extract) were depicted by Terminalia chebula and Chamomilla recutita, respectively. Moreover, Mentha longifolia and G. lutea M demonstrated noteworthy (p < 0.05) antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (14 ± 0.7 mm) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (12 ± 0.3 mm), respectively. Curcuma amada, C. recutita, Murraya koenigii and G. lutea M had significant α-glucosidase activity. Another good solvent for extraction was ethyl acetate (EA), whose extracts were secondary to methanol in producing significant biological profile. For example, EA of N. sativa (TPC: 1.46 ± 0.45 µg GAE/ mg extract), G. lutea (TRP: 160.33 ± 0.52 μg AAE/mg extract: ZOI of 12 ± 0.5 mm in K. pneumoniae) and Mormodica charantia (α-amylase inhibition: 39.5 ± 0.10 %) showed significant bioactivities. All extracts displayed mild antifungal protein kinase inhibition activities and were significantly (greater than80 %: p < 0.05) cytotoxic to brine shrimps with negligible hemolytic activity.ConclusionBriefly, variable polarity solvent extracts of studied plants will be processed for isolation of antioxidant, cytotoxic, carbohydrate enzyme inhibitory and antibacterial compounds.  相似文献

The development of hydrogels as skin dressings demonstrates a great potential in real life applications. To achieve this, the hydrogel has to conquer its natural poor mechanical strength, and to prolong its lifetime, antifatigue and self-healing properties originating from dynamic interactions are also required. As skin dressings, the hydrogel needs to maintain its ductility while pursuing the above mentioned properties. In this work, poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate is used to produce skin dressings by reinforcing poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate/alginate double network hydrogels with a crosslinker from mussel-inspired chemistry, which is 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine. This crosslinking methodology significantly improved mechanical strength of the hydrogel, with 11,200% increase in compressive failure strength; it endowed the hydrogel with outstanding antifatigue and training strengthening properties that makes its mechanical strength increasing in a 50 cycles compressive test; the hydrogel showed excellent self-healing properties that in rheological characterization; it also displayed enhanced storage modulus after withstanding a shear strain up to 1100%; meanwhile, the hydrogel exhibited extreme ductility with an elastic modulus of only 10.90–16.53 kPa. 3,4-dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine also renders the hydrogel its inherent antioxidant activity, conductivity, and bioadhesiveness. Together with the highly transparent appearance, the hydrogels possess a great potential and practibility in the fields of skin dressings.  相似文献

A modified QuEChERS method (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) for the determination of fifteen phenolic compounds in mustard greens (Brassica juncea) using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) analysis was developed. The QuEChERS partitioning step and dispersive solid phase extraction (d-SPE) clean-up sorbents were investigated, aimed at phenolic compound extraction and pigment removal, respectively. QuEChERS acetate version combined with 25 mg of diatomaceous earth (DE) and 5.0 mg of graphitized carbon black (GCB) provided the best conditions for sample preparation of the target compounds. Under the optimized conditions, all phenolic compounds showed good linearity (r ≥ 0.99) over the concentration range of 0.1 to 8000 μg kg−1, and the quantification limits were in the range of 0.06–230 μg kg−1. The spectrophotometric analysis showed that the clean-up step promoted a significant removal of chlorophyll, which is the major pigment present in the sample. Furthermore, antioxidant activity analysis was also carried out after the clean-up step and, together with chromatographic data, showed that no significant retention of the phenolic compounds occurs in the clean-up step. Two mustard greens varieties – Southern Giant Curled (SGC) and Florida Broadleaf (FB) - were analyzed with the proposed method. Seven phenolic compounds (4-hydroxybenzoic, p-coumaric, ferulic and sinapic acids, naringenin, apigenin and kaempferol) were found in both varieties, the greatest abundance being for sinapic acid (1261.5 ± 23 μg kg−1 in SGC and 1235.5 ± 26 μg kg−1 in FB) and ferulic acid (2861 ± 24 μg kg−1 in SGC and 3204.5 ± 45 μg kg−1 in FB).  相似文献

Humans and animals are frequently exposed to heavy metals in the environment, which are highly toxic to the physiological milieu and organs of the body. We investigated the ameliorative potentials of ethanol leaf extract of Ruspolia hypocrateriformis against redox imbalance due to exposure of rats to heavy metals. The in vitro study explored the antioxidant potentials of the ethanol leaf extract using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl, nitric oxide and ferric reducing antioxidant potential assays respectively. HPLC was used to quantify the amount of flavonoids and phenolic acids in the extract. For in vivo study, 30 rats were randomly divided into 5 groups. Group A received normal saline. Group B received combined solution of Lead Nitrate and Mercury Chloride (11.25 mg/kg and 0.4 mg/kg) per Bwt/day. Group C, D and E were administered with the leaf extract at doses of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg body weight respectively for 28 consecutive days. Biomarkers of hepatic dysfunctions and oxidative stress were investigated in the study rats. The HPLC study revealed high amount of gallic and ferulic acids (17.86 ± 2.68), which are the major phenolic compounds found in the extract. The extract further exhibited high antioxidant potentials in inhibiting the scavenging activity of free radicals produced in vitro. Interestingly, 600 mg/kg dosage of the leaf extract successfully ameliorated the distorted redox imbalance and oxidative damage in the liver of the rats caused by exposure to the heavy metals. Leaf extract of Ruspolia hypocrateriformis demonstrated strong antioxidant potentials, which could be exploited in pharmaceutical preparations.  相似文献

The continuous development of resistance to antibiotic drugs by microorganisms causes high mortality and morbidity. Pathogens with distinct features and biochemical abilities make them destructive to human health. Therefore, early identification of the pathogen is of substantial importance for quick ailments and healthcare outcomes. Several phenotype methods are used for the identification and resistance determination but most of the conventional procedures are time-consuming, costly, and give qualitative results. Recently, great focus has been made on the utilization of advanced techniques for microbial identification. This review is focused on the research studies performed in the last five years for the identification of microorganisms particularly, bacteria using advanced spectroscopic techniques including mass spectrometry (MS), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy (RS), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Among all the techniques, MS techniques, particularly MALDI-TOF/MS have been widely utilized for microbial identification. A total of 44 bacteria i.e., 6 Staphylococcus spp., 3 Enterococcus spp., 6 Bacillus spp., 4 Streptococcus spp., 6 Salmonella spp., and one from each genus including Escherichia, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas, Proteus, Clostridioides, Candida, Brucella, Burkholderia, Francisella, Yersinia, Moraxella, Vibrio, Shigella, Serratia, Citrobacter, and Haemophilus (spp.) were discussed in the review for their identification using the above-mentioned techniques. Among all the identified microorganisms, 21% of studies have been conducted for the identification of E. coli, 14% for S. aureus followed by 37% for other microorganisms.  相似文献

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic and irreversible degenerative joint disease that most commonly affects individuals in their forties and fifties worldwide due to the continuously increasing life expectancy. Although joint replacement is an effective remedy for severe end-stage OA, the functional outcomes could be unsatisfactory, while the implants might have a limited lifespan. Due to the drawbacks and limitations of the joint replacement approach, bone Tissue Engineering (TE) is one of the promising bone tissue regeneration technologies that aid in cartilage repair and regeneration and has attracted the attention of experts. The advanced development of biopolymers, in particular biopolymer derived from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (OPEFB), has been utilised in the fabrication of scaffolds that serve as a crucial component in bone TE. The abundant supply of OPEFB biomass and the increasing trend of converting waste into wealth for environmental sustainability have also provided the opportunity and interest to fully apply biopolymer-derived materials for bone scaffolding and other applications. Therefore, this paper aimed to provide a review of the biopolymers derived from OPEFB for the treatment of OA and other related applications. A brief overview of the biomass sources in Malaysia was presented, followed by a discussion on the chemical compositions and pre-treatment methods of OPEFB by using organosolv pre-treatment and enzymatic hydrolysis for maximum glucose recovery, monomer derived from cellulose OPEFB and synthesizing self-curing polymer scaffold. Additionally, a detailed review of the polymeric biomaterials in bone TE for the fabrication of scaffolds were included in this review. Most importantly, the paper described the potential use of injectable polymeric biomaterials that provide a significant benefit in orthopaedic applications. Overall, this paper provides a perspective on the potential of OPEFB-derived injectable scaffolds as an alternative OA treatment and future bone TE applications.  相似文献

Human alpha (α1)-acid glycoprotein (AGP) is an acute phase protein whose plasma concentration increases several-folds in the presence of various diseases. The variability in AGP plasma concentration is expected to have a huge impact on the drug binding equilibrium. Therefore, a precise measurement of AGP-drug binding is of great demand for drug development. In the current study, an ionic liquid-based aqueous two-phase system combined with affinity capillary electrophoresis (ILATPS/ACE) was utilised in order to improve the accuracy of AGP-drug binding analysis through the measurements of electrophoretic mobilities. The utilisation of ILATPS has shown to have a positive impact on the stability of AGP activity solution during the storage for an extended period of time. In addition, the effect of various alkyl chains (C2-C10) of imidazolium-based ILs with concentrations ranging between 10.00 and 1000.0 μmol L−1 on the AGP binding with the anti-cancer drugs chlorambucil (CHL) and dacarbazine (DAC) was examined by the system developed (ILATPS/ACE). A 100.00 μmol L−1 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (EMImCl) prepared in the physiological buffer conditions containing AGP (5.00–100.00 µmol L−1) has provided an accurate apparent binding constant of 1.99 ± 0.11 and 6.95 ± 0.14 L mmol−1 with CHL and DAC respectively. Apart from the ACE analysis, EMImCl/phosphate buffer solution was found to be a distinguished system that could lengthen the stability of AGP activity for a period of time reaching 90 days during the solution storage at 4.00 °C. This effect is thought to be due to the easy conversion of one-phase EMImCl/phosphate buffer/AGP at the ambient lab temperature into the two-phase solution at refrigerator temperature, 4.00 °C, and vice versa. Therefore, the ILATP/ACE system could be used to enhance the accuracy for other AGP-drug bindings with a fast, easy to use, and cost-effective analysis.  相似文献

A series of novel 3, 4-dihydro-3-methyl-2(1H)-quinazolinone derivatives with substituted amine moieties (113) and substituted aldehyde (S) were designed and synthesized by a reflux condensation reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst to get N-Mannich bases. Mannich bases were evaluated pharmacologically for their antioxidant, α-amylase enzyme inhibition, antimicrobial, cell cytotoxicity and anti-inflammatory activities. Most of the compounds exhibited potent activities against these bioassays. Among them, SH1 and SH13 showed potent antioxidant activity against DPPH free radical at IC50 of 9.94 ± 0.16 µg/mL and 11.68 ± 0.32 µg/mL, respectively. SH7, SH10 and SH13 showed significant results in TAC and TRP antioxidant assays, comparable to that of ascorbic acid. SH2 and SH3 showed potent activity in inhibiting α-amylase enzyme at IC50 of 10.17 ± 0.23 µg/mL and 9.48 ± 0.17 µg/mL, respectively, when compared with acarbose (13.52 ± 0.19 µg/mL). SH7 was the most active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial strains, SH13 being the most potent against P. aeruginosa by inhibiting its growth up to 80% (MIC = 11.11 µg/mL). SH4, SH5 and SH6 exhibited significant activity against some fungal strains. Among the thirteen synthesized compounds (SH1-SH13), four were screened out based on the results of brine shrimp lethality assay (LD50) and cell cytotoxicity assay (IC50), to determine their anti-cancer potential against Hep-G2 cells. The study was conducted for 24, 48, and 72 h. SH12 showed potent results at IC50 of 6.48 µM at 72 h when compared with cisplatin (2.56 µM). An in vitro nitric oxide (NO) assay was performed to shortlist compounds for in vivo anti-inflammatory assay. Among shortlisted compounds, SH13 exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activity by decreasing the paw thickness to the maximum compared to the standard, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA).  相似文献

Scutellariae Radix, the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, is widely applied in China for the treatment of fever, ulcer, bronchitis, hepatitis and inflammatory symptoms. Sctuellariae Amoenae Radix, the root of Scutellaria amoena C.H. Wright, is often prescribed as the substitute for Scutellariae Radix. Up to now, no attempt has been made to unveil and compare the localization of phytochemicals in Scutellariae Radix and its succedaneum. This investigation succeeded to look into the differential distribution of natural compounds in Scutellariae Radix and Scutellariae Amoenae Radix using microscopic mass spectrometry imaging. Compounds presenting different distribution modes in two kinds of roots were sorted out, then a quick method for the differentiation between Scutellariae Radix and Scutellariae Amoenae Radix was established. Accumulation sites of baicalein, baicalin, wogonin and wogonoside in Scutellariae Radix were also uncovered using microscopic mass spectrometry imaging. Moreover, the application of matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry allowed the on-tissue dissociation of major flavonoids. Overall, the utilization of microscopic mass spectrometry imaging and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry provided a novel perspective for the discovery of natural compounds within medicinal plants.  相似文献
