In the present study, a poly(isoprene-block-dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate) diblock copolymer (PI-b-PDMAEMA) is used to structure-direct a polysilazane pre-ceramic polymer, commercially known as Ceraset. To the polymer was added a 2-fold excess in weight of the silazane oligomer (Ceraset). The resulting composite was cast into films, and after cooperative self-assembly of block copolymer and Ceraset, the structure was permanently set in the hexagonal columnar morphology, as evidenced by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Cross-linking of the silazane oligomer was achieved with a radical initiator at 120 degrees C. Upon heating of the composite to 1500 degrees C under nitrogen, the structure is preserved and a mesoporous ceramic material is obtained, as demonstrated by SAXS and TEM. The pores are open and accessible, as evidenced by nitrogen sorption/desorption measurements indicating a surface area of about 51 m2 g-1 and a pore diameter of 13 nm, consistent with TEM analysis. These results suggest that the use of block copolymer mesophases may provide a simple, easily controlled pathway for the preparation of various high-temperature ceramic mesostructures.  相似文献

The interactions between oppositely charged polyelectrolytes were studied in saline aqueous solutions as functions of the temperature and the salt and polymer concentrations. The polyanion was a diblock copolymer composed of a poly(ethylene oxide) block and a poly(sodium methacrylate) block. Two polycations were used, the homopolymer poly(methacryl oxyethyl trimethylammonium chloride) and its poly(ethylene oxide)‐grafted analogue. By dynamic light scattering and turbidity measurements, it was observed that the salt concentration, temperature, and counterion size had a significant effect on the formation of the polymer complexes in aqueous solutions. At a fixed salt concentration and a fixed temperature, it was possible to form completely soluble complexes of an ionic polymer in aqueous solutions between poly(ethylene oxide)‐grafted poly(methacryl oxyethyl trimethylammonium chloride)and the polyanion with a poly(ethylene oxide) block at a 1:1 anion/cation ratio. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High molecular weight poly(vinyl)silazane were synthesized successfully by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization in toluene at 120 °C, using dithiocarbamate derivatives and 2,2′‐azobis‐isobutyrylnitrile (AIBN) as the RAFT agents and thermal initiator, respectively. The polymerization of a vinylcyclicsilazane oligomer with 82.5% conversion was readily controlled to increase the molecular weight from 1000 to 12,000 g/mol with a narrow polydispersity <1.5. The resulting polymer showed a high ceramic yield of 70 wt % at 1000 °C. Moreover, the approach was extended successfully to the synthesis of poly(vinyl)silazane‐block‐polystyrene as an inorganic–organic diblock copolymer. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New biodegradable/biocompatible ABC block copolymers, poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(glycidol)‐b‐poly(L ,L ‐lactide) (PEO‐PGly‐PLLA), were synthesized. First, PEO‐b‐poly(1‐ethoxyethylglycidol)‐b‐PLLA was synthesized by a successive anionic ring‐opening copolymerization of ethylene oxide, 1‐ethoxyethylglycidyl ether, and L ,L ‐lactide initiated with potassium 2‐methoxyethanolate. In the second step, the 1‐ethoxyethyl blocking groups of 1‐ethoxyethylglycidyl ether were removed at weakly acidic conditions leaving other blocks intact. The resulting copolymers were composed of hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments joined by short polyglycidol blocks with one hydroxyl group in each monomeric unit. These hydroxyl groups may be used for further copolymer transformations. The PEO‐PGly‐PLLA copolymers with a molecular weight of PLLA blocks below 5000 were water‐soluble. Above the critical micellar concentration (ranging from 0.05 to1.0 g/L, depending on the composition of copolymer), copolymers formed macromolecular micelles with a hydrophobic PLLA core and hydrophilic PEO shell. The diameters of the micelles were about 25 nm. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 3750–3760, 2003  相似文献

Biodegradable, amphiphilic, four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PCL‐b‐PEO) copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide in the presence of four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) with terminal OH groups with diethylzinc (ZnEt2) as a catalyst. The chemical structure of PCL‐b‐PEO copolymer was confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The hydroxyl end groups of the four‐armed PCL were successfully substituted by PEO blocks in the copolymer. The monomodal profile of molecular weight distribution by gel permeation chromatography provided further evidence for the four‐armed architecture of the copolymer. Physicochemical properties of the four‐armed block copolymers differed from their starting four‐armed PCL precursor. The melting points were between those of PCL precursor and linear poly(ethylene glycol). The length of the outer PEO blocks exhibited an obvious effect on the crystallizability of the block copolymer. The degree of swelling of the four‐armed block copolymer increased with PEO length and PEO content. The micelle formation of the four‐armed block copolymer was examined by a fluorescent probe technique, and the existence of the critical micelle concentration (cmc) confirmed the amphiphilic nature of the resulting copolymer. The cmc value increased with increasing PEO length. The absolute cmc values were higher than those for linear amphiphilic block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel amphiphilic fluorinated ABC‐type triblock copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO), hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt), and hydrophobic/lipophobic poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA)/CuBr as a catalyst system. The bromide‐terminated diblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐Br) were prepared by the ATRP of styrene initiated with the macroinitiator MeOPEO‐Br, which was obtained by the esterification of poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (MeOPEO) with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide. A fluorinated block of poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (PFHEA) was then introduced into the diblock copolymer by a second ATRP process to synthesize a novel ABC‐type triblock copolymer, poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly(perfluorohexylethyl acrylate) (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA). These block copolymers were characterized by means of proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Water contact angle measurements revealed that the polymeric coating of the triblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt‐b‐PFHEA) shows more hydrophobic than that of the corresponding diblock copolymer (MeOPEO‐b‐PSt). Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as a model protein to evaluate the protein adsorption property and the triblock copolymer coating posseses excellent protein‐resistant character prior to the corresponding diblock copolymer and polydimethylsiloxane. These amphiphilic fluoropolymers can expect to have potential applications for antifouling coatings and antifouling membranes. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABA‐type amphiphilic tri‐block copolymers were successfully synthesized from poly(ethylene oxide) derivatives through anionic polymerization. When poly(styrene) anions were reacted with telechelic bromine‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide) ( 1 ) in 2:1 mole ratio, poly(styrene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(styrene) tri‐block copolymers were formed. Similarly, stable telechelic carbanion‐terminated poly(ethylene oxide), prepared from 1,1‐diphenylethylene‐terminated poly (ethylene oxide) ( 2 ) and sec‐BuLi, was also used to polymerize styrene and methyl methacrylate separately, as a result, poly (styrene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(styrene) and poly (methyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(methyl methacrylate) tri‐block copolymers were formed respectively. All these tri‐block copolymers and poly(ethylene oxide) derivatives, 1 and 2 , were characterized by spectroscopic, calorimetric, and chromatographic techniques. Theoretical molecular weights of the tri‐block copolymers were found to be similar to the experimental molecular weights, and narrow polydispersity index was observed for all the tri‐block copolymers. Differential scanning calorimetric studies confirmed the presence of glass transition temperatures of poly(ethylene oxide), poly(styrene), and poly(methyl methacrylate) blocks in the tri‐block copolymers. Poly(styrene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(styrene) tri‐block copolymers, prepared from polystyryl anion and 1 , were successfully used to prepare micelles, and according to the transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering results, the micelles were spherical in shape with mean average diameter of 106 ± 5 nm. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dendritic rod structures can be formed via the branching of dendritic elements from a primary polymer backbone; such systems present an opportunity to create nanoscale material structures with highly functional exterior regions. In this work, we report for the first time the synthesis of a hybrid diblock copolymer possessing a linear–dendritic rod architecture. These block copolymers consist of a linear poly(ethylene oxide)–poly(ethylene imine) diblock copolymer around which poly(amido amine) branches have been divergently synthesized from the poly(ethylene imine) block. The dendritic branches are terminated with amine or ester groups for the full generations and half‐generations, respectively; however, the methyl ester terminal groups can also be readily converted into alkyl groups of various lengths, and this allows us to tune the hydrophilic/hydrophobic nature of the dendritic block and, therefore, the amphiphilic properties of the diblock copolymer and its tendencies toward microphase separation. The block copolymers exhibit semicrystallinity due to the presence of the poly(ethylene oxide) block; however, as the polymer fraction consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) decreases, the overall crystallinity also decreases, and it approaches zero at generation 2.0 and higher. The unfunctionalized block copolymers show weak phase segregation in transmission electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry at all generations. The addition of n‐alkyl chains increases phase segregation, particularly at high alkyl lengths. The generation 3.5 polymer with n‐dodecyl alkyl substitution has a rodlike or wormlike morphology consisting of domains of 4.1 nm, equivalent to the estimated cross section of the individual polymer chains. In this case, the nanometer scale of the polymer chains can be directly observed with transmission electron microscopy. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of three series of double hydrophilic block copolymers (DHBCs), consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) as the neutral water soluble block and a second polyelectrolyte block of variable chemistry, is described. The synthetic scheme involves the anionic polymerization of poly(ptert‐butoxystyrene‐b‐ethylene oxide) (PtBOS‐PEO) amphiphilic block copolymer precursors followed by the acidic hydrolysis of the hydrophobic poly(ptert‐butoxystyrene) (PtBOS) block to an annealed anionic polyelectrolyte poly(p‐hydroxystyrene) (PHOS) block. The PHOS block was subsequently transformed into a high charge density annealed cationic polyelectrolyte namely poly[3,5‐bis(dimethylaminomethylene) hydroxystyrene] (NPHOS), via aminomethylation. Finally, the NPHOS block was transformed into a quenched polyelectrolyte, namely quaternized poly[3,5‐bis(dimethylaminomethylene) hydroxystyrene] (QNPHOS) block by reaction with CH3I. The solution properties of the different series of the above block polyelectrolyte copolymers have been investigated using static, dynamic and electrophoretic light scattering, turbidimetry, and fluorescence spectroscopy. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The block copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) was synthesized by a combination of living anionic ring‐opening polymerization and a controllable radical mechanism. The poly(ethylene oxide) prepolymer with the 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy end group (PEOT) was first obtained by anionic ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide with sodium 4‐oxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy as the initiator in a homogeneous process. In the polymerization UV and electron spin resonance spectroscopy determined the 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidinyl‐1‐oxy moiety was left intact. The copolymers were then obtained by radical polymerization of 4‐vinylpyridine in the presence of PEOT. The polymerization showed a controllable radical mechanism. The desired block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and NMR spectroscopy in detail. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PEO–PDMS) diblock copolymer was used to template a bisphenol A type epoxy resin (ER); nanostructured thermoset blends of ER and PEO–PDMS were prepared with 4,4′‐methylenedianiline (MDA) as the curing agent. The phase behavior, crystallization, hydrogen‐bonding interactions, and nanoscale structures were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and small‐angle X‐ray scattering. The uncured ER was miscible with the poly(ethylene oxide) block of PEO–PDMS, and the uncured blends were not macroscopically phase‐separated. Macroscopic phase separation took place in the MDA‐cured ER/PEO–PDMS blends containing 60–80 wt % PEO–PDMS diblock copolymer. However, the composition‐dependent nanostructures were formed in the cured blends with 10–50 wt % PEO–PDMS, which did not show macroscopic phase separation. The poly(dimethylsiloxane) microdomains with sizes of 10–20 nm were dispersed in a continuous ER‐rich phase; the average distance between the neighboring microdomains was in the range of 20–50 nm. The miscibility between the cured ER and the poly(ethylene oxide) block of PEO–PDMS was ascribed to the favorable hydrogen‐bonding interaction. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have studied the effect of thermal history on ionic conductivity of block copolymer electrolytes. Previous work on block copolymer electrolytes composed of polystyrene‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (SEO) and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfone) imide (LiTFSI) salt was restricted to lamellar morphologies. This study addresses both cylindrical and lamellar morphologies. The conductivity of low molecular weight samples decreases after they are annealed. In contrast, the conductivity of high molecular weight samples is generally unaffected by annealing. These results are explained in the context of connectivity and composition of the conducting phase. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci. Part B: Polym. Phys. 2013 , 51, 927–934  相似文献

A series of novel side‐chain liquid crystalline ABC triblock copolymers composed of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), polystyrene (PS), and poly[6‐(4‐methoxy‐4′‐oxy‐azobenzene) hexyl methacrylate] (PMMAZO) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using CuBr/1,1,4,7,7‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as a catalyst system. First, the bromine‐terminated diblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene (PEO‐PS‐Br) was prepared by the ATRP of styrene initiated with the macro‐initiator PEO‐Br, which was obtained from the esterification of PEO and 2‐bromo‐2‐methylpropionyl bromide. An azobenzene‐containing block of PMMAZO with different molecular weights was then introduced into the diblock copolymer by a second ATRP to synthesize the novel side‐chain liquid crystalline ABC triblock copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐polystyrene‐block‐poly[6‐(4‐methoxy‐4′‐oxy‐azobenzene) hexyl methacrylate] (PEO‐PS‐PMMAZO). These block copolymers were characterized using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and gel permeation chromatograph (GPC). Their thermotropic phase behaviors were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscope (POM). These triblock copolymers exhibited a smectic phase and a nematic phase over a relatively wide temperature range. At the same time, the photoresponsive properties of these triblock copolymers in chloroform solution were preliminarily studied. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Stimuli‐responsive poly[(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐maleic anhydride)‐g‐poly(ethylene oxide)]/poly(ethylene imine) macrobranched macrocomplexes were synthesized by (1) the radical copolymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide and maleic anhydride with α,α′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator in 1,4‐dioxane at 65 °C under a nitrogen atmosphere, (2) the polyesterification (grafting) of prepared poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐maleic anhydride) containing less than 20 mol % anhydride units with α‐hydroxy‐ω‐methoxy‐poly(ethylene oxide)s having different number‐average molecular weights (Mn = 4000, 10,000, or 20,000), and (3) the incorporation of macrobranched copolymers with poly(ethylene imine) (Mn = 60,000). The composition and structure of the synthesized copolymer systems were determined by Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and chemical and elemental analyses. The important properties of the copolymer systems (e.g., the viscosity, thermal and pH sensitivities, and lower critical solution temperature behavior) changed with increases in the molecular weight, composition, and length of the macrobranched hydrophobic domains. These copolymers with reactive anhydride and carboxylic groups were used for the stabilization of penicillin G acylase (PGA). The conjugation of the enzyme with the copolymers significantly increased the thermal stability of PGA (three times at 45 °C and two times at 65 °C). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(L-lactic acid) (PEO-PLLA) diblock copolymers were synthesized via a ring opening polymerization from poly(ethylene oxide) and l -lactide. Stannous octoate was used as a catalyst in a solution polymerization with toluene as the solvent. Their physicochemical properties were investigated by using infrared spectroscopy, 1H-NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry, as well as the observational data of gel-sol transitions in aqueous solutions. Aqueous solutions of PEO-PLLA diblock copolymers changed from a gel phase to a sol phase with increasing temperature when their polymer concentrations are above a critical gel concentration. As the PLLA block length increased, the gel-sol transition temperature increased. For comparison, diblock copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(l -lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) [PEO-P(LLA/GA)] and poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(dl -lactic acid-co-glycolic acid) [PEO-P(DLLA/GA)] were synthesized by the same methods, and their gel-sol transition behaviors were also investigated. The gel-sol transition properties of these diblock copolymers are influenced by the hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance of the copolymer, block length, hydrophobicity, and stereoregularity of the hydrophobic block of the copolymer. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Amphiphilic block copolymers containing β‐lactam groups on the polyisoprene block were synthesized from poly(isoprene‐b‐ethylene oxide) (IEO) diblock copolymer precursors, prepared by anionic polymerization. β‐Lactam functionalization was achieved via reaction of the polyisoprene (PI) block with chlorosulfonyl isocyanate and subsequent reduction. The resulting block copolymers were molecularly characterized by SEC, FTIR, and NMR spectroscopies and DSC. Functionalization was found to proceed in high yields, altering the solubility properties of the PI block and those of the functionalized diblocks. Hydrogen bond formation is assumed to be responsible for the decreased crystallinity of the poly(ethylene oxide) block (PEO) in the bulk state as indicated by DSC measurements. The self‐assembly behavior of the β‐lactam functionalized poly(isoprene‐b‐ethylene oxide) copolymers (LIEO) in aqueous solutions was studied by dynamic light scattering (DLS), static light scattering (SLS), fluorescence spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Nearly spherical loose aggregates were formed by the LIEO block copolymers, having lower aggregation numbers and higher cmc values compared to the IEO precursors, as a result of the increased polarity of the β‐lactam rings incorporated in the PI blocks. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Time‐resolved real‐space observations of morphology and pattern formation resulting from crystallization of ultrathin films of low‐molecular‐weight poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or diblock copolymers containing PEO shed light on the mechanisms of how polymer crystals are formed. We used simple but restricted geometries like thin films of controlled thickness or confinement resulting from block copolymer mesotructures. Under such conditions, we were able to relate the observed morphology and its temporal evolution directly to molecular processes and the kinetics of crystal growth. We demonstrate that changes in the morphology with time are due to different thermal histories and are the consequence of the mestable nature of polymer crystals. Information about the nucleation process was obtained by examining crystal formation in 12‐nm small spherical cells of a block copolymer mesostructure. We discuss the advantages of thin‐film studies for a better understanding of polymer crystallization. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 41: 1869–1877, 2003  相似文献

A five‐arm star‐shaped poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) with terminal bromide groups was used as a macroinitiator for the atom transfer radical polymerization of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), resulting in five‐arm star‐shaped poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) block copolymers. The polymerization proceeded in a controlled way using a copper(I)bromide/pentamethyl diethylenetriamine catalytic system in acetonitrile as solvent. The hydrolysis of the tBA blocks of the amphiphilic star‐shaped PEO‐b‐PtBA block copolymer resulted in dihydrophilic star structures. The encapsulation of the star‐block copolymers and their release properties in acid environment have been followed by UV‐spectroscopy and color changes, using the dye methyl orange as a hydrophilic guest molecule. Characterization of the structures has been done by 1H NMR, size exclusion chromatography, MALDI‐TOF, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The preparation of poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether)‐b‐poly(ethylene terephthalate) block copolymer was performed by the reaction of the 2‐hydroxyethyl modified poly(2,6‐dimethyl‐1,4‐phenylene ether) (PPE‐EtOH) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) by an in situ process, during the synthesis of the polyester. The yield of the reaction of the 2‐hydroxyethyl functionalized PPE‐EtOH with PET was close to 100%. A significant proportion of the PET‐b‐PPE‐EtOH block copolymer was found to have short PET block. Nevertheless, the copolymer structured in the shape of micelles (20 nm diameter) and very small domains with 50–200 nm diameter, whereas unmodified PPE formed much larger domains (1.5 μm) containing copolymer. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A well‐defined amphiphilic copolymer brush with poly(ethylene oxide) as the main chain and polystyrene as the side chain was successfully prepared by a combination of anionic polymerization and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The glycidol was first protected by ethyl vinyl ether to form 2,3‐epoxypropyl‐1‐ethoxyethyl ether and then copolymerized with ethylene oxide by the initiation of a mixture of diphenylmethylpotassium and triethylene glycol to give the well‐defined polymer poly(ethylene oxide‐co‐2,3‐epoxypropyl‐1‐ethoxyethyl ether); the latter was hydrolyzed under acidic conditions, and then the recovered copolymer of ethylene oxide and glycidol {poly(ethylene oxide‐co‐glycidol) [poly(EO‐co‐Gly)]} with multiple pending hydroxymethyl groups was esterified with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce the macro‐ATRP initiator [poly(EO‐co‐Gly)(ATRP). The latter was used to initiate the polymerization of styrene to form the amphiphilic copolymer brushes. The object products and intermediates were characterized with 1H NMR, matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared, and size exclusion chromatography in detail. In all cases, the molecular weight distribution of the copolymer brushes was rather narrow (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight < 1.2), and the linear dependence of ln[M0]/[M] (where [M0] is the initial monomer concentration and [M] is the monomer concentration at a certain time) on time demonstrated that the styrene polymerization was well controlled. This method has universal significance for the preparation of copolymer brushes with hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) as the main chain. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
